tree - it must be so tough holding her all the time

tree delivery lol @ cloud and olde world

tinkisnotenjoyingtherain · 28/04/2009 17:48

hi chef enjoy sushi

moosemama · 28/04/2009 19:11

evening, one handed here again as dd is definitely poorly. had another explosion plus two full on sick episodes (she is never sick) then she refused a feed (although it was a bottle of ebm from grandma while I collected the boys from school - but she would usually take a bottle no problem). she has since had a small bf, but has just been screaming and seems to just want to be held. she's now fast asleep in my arms with a dummy and normally she won't take a dummy. her head is warm but I don't think she has a particularly high temperature.

treedelivery · 28/04/2009 19:18

Moose for Elizabeth. Hope she picks up quickly.

HOW do you find time to express????

missjackson · 28/04/2009 19:44

tree I was going to ask exactly the same question! I used to express before I went to bed, but am usually too tired and can't be bothered nowadays - plus I was getting so little out at that time, only about 3oz for both boobs - so not even a feed. Morning would be better, but never have time.

By the way, meant to say I was highly impressed with your night out in a hotel - you must have slept the sleep of the dead! I don't think my Mum would quite buy the idea of doing the night feeds, however much she loves her grandson! Plus I would have to do about a month's worth of expressing...!

chef at sushi - my favourite - and I know how good it is in your part of the world. None here in rural Wales.

MM hope Elizabeth sleeps it off...

Well, LO is fast asleep and I am home alone - OH still busy - but enjoying the time actually. Have just opened a beer!

missjackson · 28/04/2009 19:45

ps - I am ravenous at the moment - do you think it's growth-spurt related? Nye is nearly 13 weeks... and would explain constant feeding last night!

treedelivery · 28/04/2009 19:53

MissJ - I had about 8 oz of ebm - and since the colic demon took such firm hold she is pants on a bottle, so that was plenty!

They were only 25 mins away if she wouldn't eat, but am sooooo glad we didn't get the call......
Enjoy quite evening - so nice to have a bit of space now and again!

rrrayray · 28/04/2009 20:10

My Goodness- WHAT a LOT of posts!!! Busy ladies!

spink i have always gone for tights OVER body suits. Esp the lovely frilly bottomed ones!! No... nothing is TMI once you've had a bubba! :-) Doctor said he wasn't at all concerned, either an ingrowing hair or an unerrupted (or something) boil. He said if was causing no pain or discomfort then no action needed to be taken. He said would most likely pop or go away on its own! Said if became inflamed, or painful to return & could be sorted out. Hope that helps! That said... if you have something similar sounding, i'd get the A-ok from your Doctor. As he said that i had done the RIGHT thing and its important to get all lumps and bumps checked!

Chef Glad to hear that you know the method is OK for now.. you are MUCH braver than me- Esme is a Gem 99.9% of the time, but had a crying fit the other day, but had ticked all boxes, so knew wasnt hunger, wet, etc... so tried to leave her to it, failed- lasted only moments! Thank GOODNESS Esme is such a contented little baby- else i think i would be a total SAP of a mother & have an incredibly needy baby!

Dog You banana - i didn't mean any offence by the Teenage parent thing. Plus, i was referring more to the 16 year old who really DOESN'T want be in the situation their in... Rather than a mother who just happens to still be in their teens, just! Heck, had OH got his way i wouldn't have gone to uni and would have had LO at 19!!! Glad poor Arlo OK... Really Dreading Esme getting bigger & all the bumps and bruises!

Spink (again, heehee!) would you believe Esme's Sun hat is from Matalan. My sister picked it up for her. ITs MASSIVE on her though as 0-6 months! I think it was all of about £3!!!

Sparkle Small wedding sounds lovely. we too are having a smaller wedding, only inviting those family we have to, so stopping at 1st cousins etc, and not inviting like you said "Great aunt Mable who you havent seen in 10 years!" [Grin] Guest list is 74 for day and 120 in the evening, small compared with the massive weddings some people have these days! Each to their own! I'm loving planning it, have got ALOT booked so far, Venue, Catering, registrar, Harpist, flowers, photogrpaher and mobile Creche. only major thing besides Dresses/suits and rings is now music for the evening!

Had a lovely day today. Went to bluewater with my NCT friends. 6 of us and 6 babies in Tow. Esme was an absolute angel and got some lovely Summer bits for us both. i LOVE baby Zara clothes for girls, they are SOOOOOOOOOO cute!!!

Right, dinner, am starving!

ps, talking of starving, missj if your more hungry and nye eating more, almost certianly growth spurt. Ride it out... Esmes don't usually last more than 48 hours! xx

moosemama · 28/04/2009 20:47

Well, she has had a good sleep and exploded again but, fingers crossed, she seems a lot happier now and her head is cooler as well.

Ray I have some Zara stuff put away for Elizabeth when she is older - 6-9 months I think.

Tree, I express after her first feed, usually 6-7 oz and that's the one she has from Daddy at bedtime. I also 'make' myself express every night before bed - usually 9oz which I split and freeze as 6oz and 3oz. To be honest I always hate expressing before bedtime but if I don't, I usually wake up at 5am really uncomfortable and have been known to get out of bed and express then just so I can go back to sleep.

I also try to make sure I express off any feeds she misses when she takes a bottle of ebm while we are out - so feed off the next side and express off the side she has missed.

I have quite a supply now, in fact we could do with a bigger freezer as its starting to restrict my weekly shop! I always feel safer with a big supply in the freezer as I know someone can feed her if I am ill (comes from collapsing with a stomach ulcer and being pumped full of drugs when DS1 was a baby - had to give up feeding him because of it). I also want to make sure I have plenty of bm available for her to take bottles at all the parties we have to go to over the next few weeks and for my 3 nights out in June.

LenniEd · 28/04/2009 20:50

Just stopping in quickly - have snuck out of holiday cottage to MN! DH would kill me!

Can confirm Dog is a real person and she is lovely! Had fab day out, thank you again Dog, feels very strange calling you that. And Dylan fell in love immeadiately he set eyes on Isla. Never going to catch up but DH going out Sat so will have the whole day to catch up on MN washing

Miss you all! Got no one to moan to! Right better get on with enjoying hols, fab here, want to stay!

LenniEd · 28/04/2009 20:51

Spink - Know what you mean about 2 and not being depressed just hard work kind of thing.. can't elaborate now, but you are definately not alone there

EachPeachPearMum · 28/04/2009 21:52

lenni I do that on holiday too!

DS is no better- has been fretful all day, still no temp though. I actually caved and gave him calpol around 10 to 6- he is just not himself. He got really calm 1/2 an hour later though... and chilled off to sleep.... so something was bothering him.

Had him weighed this morning... he has dropped down the centiles like a stone, though he has been off feeds this last week, presumably due to illness. (though that always made dd feed more tbh) gone from 92nd down to 65th over a month. They also did his length, and I have come to the conclusion that he must just have really big feet... he is in a 3-6 sleepsuit today- and it is too short- really, I won't be able to put it on him again comfortably... yet his size is only just above average, and he certainly isn't fat round the middle, nor is he insanely long. His footless all-in-ones fit well still, so he must just be big-footed... like his father.
MIL says when DH was born the m/w's first words were "My god- look at his feet" so MIL was panicking thinking- they were club feet or webbed or something.... m/w just meant they were huge. He is size 11 now...

stripeywoollenhat · 28/04/2009 21:53

at amounts you folks can express! never more than one and a half oz in one go here, and that's first thing in the morning. i have 70ml in the freezer...

moose, glad that elizabeth seems better, hope whatever it is is through her system now

tree, know it's a pain about the dairy (light soya milk is not too bad in tea) but it must be a relief to work out what's causing/intensifying the colic. if it's just the cow's milk protein, i think that intolerance is mainly supposed to disappear in time

missj, quite likely to be a growth spurt since he's thirteen weeks. hope it's a short one!

mssparkle, rray, hope you are both enjoying wedding planning

spent half my day traipsing around getting forms sorted for c's passport - i know it's important that just anyone can't get a passport for a baby, but what a pain... had to visit doctor, solicitor and police... but in a good cause - going to siena for a long weekend at end of may .

have to get a plumber tomorrow , seem to have damaged the pipe under the sink while trying to clear hideous drain stink out of kitchen...

ray i forgot about rings Must put that on list of things to do!

Eachpeach i think it depends where you buy the sleepsuits. Finley is long so i have a nightmare of a time trying to find things. Asda sleepsuits are just no good because they are quite short. Next is brilliant (but expensive) for really long sleepsuits as is mothercare

moose i hope Elizabeth is better this morning.

Finley had a good night. He went down at 9.30pm after his feed and didn't wake up until 5.20am, brilliant. I have put his milk up to 7oz and it seems to be making a difference. He has his injections tomorrow.

I am joining dd up to a music class. The first one is this morning, i think it will be nice to have an activity where all the focus is on dd. It will be her time iyswim without Finley.

tinkisnotenjoyingtherain · 29/04/2009 08:33

morning

quick post offto drop dd1 @ nursery for the day

hope elizabeth gets better mm

rray day sounds good

dog oh dear about bunk beds

sorry if i have missed anyone waves @ everyone else

rrrayray · 29/04/2009 08:46

Morning.

Esme had a bad night (for her) after going down at 7, she woke at 10pm, 2am, and 5am. Completely unlike her. Seemed hungry each time, so can only HOPE its a growth spurt & not her new night time routine!!

OH of work today. Got financial advisor appointment later. Tonight leaving Esme with her Grandparents (OH's parents) as going to see Brian Conley. Bit aprehensive as Esme has started getting a bit clingy to me @ bedtime, and also NOT liking her bottle at ALL OH thinks we should still go, and just come back if required.

Spink · 29/04/2009 09:03

just got a couple of secs - found this bfing and hayfever link might be useful to some of us? I woke up streaming this morning.. will catch up properly later

treedelivery · 29/04/2009 09:19

Morning. I have 2 hours to sort my house, put away 4 loads of washing, and process 4 loads more.

Argh!!

Moose - really glad Elizabeth is better.

We do not speak of the H-bomb, things will get better bless her.

tinkishappy · 29/04/2009 09:45

hi

sorry to here that esme had a bad night htink that bracken is having a growth spurt is drink loads in day not night
brian conly is great

hi tree - sure u will get it sorted

missjackson · 29/04/2009 10:05

Tink at least Bracken is drinking daytime and not at night - last night Nye fed at 12.20am, 1.30am, 2.40am, 4.30ish (had lost track by then!), and 6ish ! 5 feeds! To be honest I was only awake for 5 minutes each time while he latched on, but something has to be done! Will give him another couple of nights in case it is a growth spurt, and then we'll have to go back to sitting up and waking up properly (both of us) for feeds, and then putting him back in the cot.

ray Esme will probably be fine for her grandparents! You should go and try not to think about it, easier said than done though!

MsSparkle yey for Finlay's long sleep... lucky you!

stripey holiday away sounds lovely - I bet the local people will love her, and you can take her everywhere. I wonder how she'll react to the take-off pressure? I heard somewhere that BF-ing thru it helps them. You'll have to let us know -- will she be the first of the thread to fly I wonder?!

Dog Was wondering what Bethany had done after your FB updates! It's normal brother & sister stuff though - I cringe when I think of the more serious injuries that my siblings and I inflicted on one another.... but of course unacceptable!

Lenni glad you are having a lovely holiday - well done for sneaking out though. We miss you too.

A couple of days ago we put Nye in a bouncer (the type you hang from a door) as he now has a really strong neck, and he loved it! Took him a while to work it out, but now he can twizzle around and bounce up and down in it. And lovely to have somewhere that he is safe and entertained!

2 questions for you:

  1. Has anyone decided which CTF to open? How on earth do you decide? I know which type we will go for but there are literally hundreds of providers to choose from.
  2. My SIL has this really cool changing mat table that goes over the bath, bringing it up to waist level - super comfy, and a great space-saver. Would work really well in our new place. But can't find them anywhere! Maybe I am searching for the wrong term. (SIL got given it)

Off to visit my grandfather today, and then having lunch with very old friend in the village where we grew up (only about 40 mins from here). Fingers x-ed it stays sunny.

Ooh sorry for long post..

missjackson · 29/04/2009 10:38

ps Lenni If I can make my small totsbots last another few weeks, do you think I could go straight to large ittis? Nye is big (91st centile).

Would really like to use reusables during the day and the ittis look great. But what do you use at night again? I can't remember what you recommended.

Tree have you bought any ittis yet?

treedelivery · 29/04/2009 10:55

MissJ - I have a med itti. They are small fitting, I bet you could y'know. I am sure someone is selling a large on mn, or you could get one new, see what you think and return if you think too big.

fwiw - Hatts feeds at least twice between 12 and 6 am, as well as 7 ish am and 10 ish pm.

You are not alone! They are meant to night feed, it is part of what protects them against sudden infant death, the frequent rousing from a deep sleep. According to our unicef bf body at work anyhow. They are also using their survival genes, checking the tribe hasn't had to move on, the animals are being kept at bay by other humans etc....

Scant comfort at 3am I realise......

H-bomb up again, so an end to cleaning and tidying. Oh well. Turns out my 2nd born has very well developed survival instincts and insists on being carried. DD1 was not like trhis - though she fed alot too.

wasable curious people - check out the washable nappy thread! It's my second home, along with here, what they don't know isn't worth knowing! You can tell them your baby type, water, washing arrangements - and behold - a list of nappies to try, and often an offer of one to buy at a good price, pre loved!

stripeywoollenhat · 29/04/2009 11:06

missj - that is a lot of feeding... if it's a growth spurt it shouldn't last much longer; exhausting, though.

c has scaled back to twice at night (last night midnight and 5.30am) since we stopped swaddling her (she is now able to escape the swaddle in about two seconds), which, since i am unable to go to bed before 11.30 is actually not too bad - only works out as waking once. and her current pattern is that she goes back to sleep till eight and then sleeps from nine to elevenish, so really nothing to complain about here

i am a bit worried about the flight actually, my ears hurt when i fly (going up and down, short flights v unpleasant)and so do most of my siblings. but we won't know until it's too late... we were going to go for longer but thought that if she really can't get on with the change that we would have a horrible time, better to go for a short break and feel regretful at the end than struggle through a week with a screaming baby... probably won't be able to afford to go on any further holidays because i will be unpaid from june for four months and we are still in discussions about what to do then - i may take a career break, or else i'll go part time for a couple of years. either way, a cut in income and we are having tax rises and pay cuts all over the place here at the moment so it'll probably be even tighter than we think . oh well. things could be way worse, neither of us likely to actually lose our jobs, so not complaining.

tree, hope you are getting on top of that laundry (the laundry, sweet jesus, the laundry...!)

ray, i'd go; you can always go home if needed

tink, glad to hear that bracken is having a nice civilised daytime growth spurt

OP posts:
treedelivery · 29/04/2009 11:16

MiisJ - what he might be doing is waking, wanting the boob, latching on [at which point we pass out I believe?] and havigna few slurps then back to sleep.
So the choice is - and I have it too- do we drag our sorry asses up and give them a big feed, or let them snack and wake us loads, but not have to get up. Hmmmm.....

Every night I go to bed with all intentions of feeding in my glider, every morning I wake with both boobs out, a baby, and a few milk stains all over the place!
