Today the D&V bug hit RKD land. DS holed up on sofa with bucket crying because he thinks he's been nuaghty by being sick and that's why we won't feed him....

Just me on the thread this weekend then. Hello Arcadie

OP posts:
Arcadie · 03/05/2009 11:03

Hi Arcadie. How's your little boy?

OP posts:
Arcadie · 03/05/2009 11:04

Still poorly. But a good dose of prayer and watching Lightning McQueen with his Uncle is making him feel much better.

OP posts:
Arcadie · 03/05/2009 11:04

ROFL at Lightning McQueen bwing thew cure for his ills. You're so funny Arcadie.

Yeah - I know. It's a gift.

Doctorskidaddle · 03/05/2009 17:06

thanks insy and arcadie - think I am feeling a bit better a week or so in, so hopefully I will be fine in another week or so. I hate feeling liek this - reminds me early preganancy...

arcadie - your poor DS - has anyone else got it? Everything is harder when they actually know what's going on, isn't it? DD had her pre-school injections the other day and it was so awful having to explain that yes it would hurt but she still had to have them anyway - promise of an ice-cream and present afterwards helped her cope amazingly! (oh, and yes you are quite funny - I only said quite, mind...)

claireybee · 03/05/2009 20:34

Lol Arcadie.

Poor ds though, how is he now? Does he know he hasn't been naughty?

Buzzy wow that's impressive. DS looks down and says weewee or poo whenever he does one but if he has his nappy off he refuses to sit on the potty or toilet and always stands up to do it. The other evening he came running into the kitchen saying "s'yuk, s'yuk"-he'd pooed, taken his nappy off and trodden in it. Was relieved he found it yuk and came to tell me rather than smearing it everywhere or eating it or something...

Skid yes have heard stopping bf turns you slightly mental for a while . Dunno what my excuse is though, yesterday I was really ratty all day then cried at adverts on tv, Britains got talent, EVERYTHING . Can't believe your dd had pre school injections, so grown up. Mind you, dd is three this month and I can't quite get my head around that!

BouncingTurtle · 04/05/2009 07:14

Hello all, hope you have all been enjoying the bank holiday weekend!

Arcadie - poor ds, hope your ds is feeling better today and that no-one else has come doen with the bug.

Skid - hope you and the rest of the household are also on the mend.

My ds doesn't seem to know or care if he has pooed!!

buzzybee · 04/05/2009 09:26

Arcadie I'm usually lurking around at the weekends - only prob is the 11 hour time diff!! So I'm not online when you guys are most of the time.

DD seems to have abandoned all her words for the last couple of days all we get is ahhh-ahhh very loudly and constantly. She's not exactly an advanced speaker but did have shoes, fish, up, mummy, teddy, tigey, Issy (her sister), um-ma (grandma) and one or two others so quite frustrating to be back to ah-ah!! Have decided to try and ignore it unless she's obviously upset - whereasmy natural instinct is to say "what's wrong?" Let's hope in a few days she'll come out with a torrent of new words!

Arcadie · 04/05/2009 10:30

DS all better and back to total cheekiness. A delight to have my mischievous little man back. And DD had a runny tummy before he did so I'm hoping we're all done now. Yaaayyy!!!

DD signs poo when you change a pooey nappy but nowt else.

Hoory for your ds Arcadie!

Wizzska · 05/05/2009 11:01

Arcadie, DS has the D&V bug too. Glad your DS is better, how long did it last? DS is pretty poorly with it, it seems a really nasty one.

Skid, sorry you're feeling down. Stopping breastfeeding can give you a bit of a hormone wobble. Hope you feel a bit better soon.

Cazzy, congratulations. Sadly I'm not joining you on the pg front this month - hopefully soon though.

DS is beginning to like shoes too - or rather he often fetches slippers for us and puts them on top of our feet. It is very sweet.

My bad news is that I was made redundant on Friday. The Wizz gardening business is going to have to get its arse in gear.

Arcadie · 05/05/2009 13:28

Wizz nightmare - so sorry you've got pushed. Is it a "credit crunch" reason? (not that this makes it any easier) And boy with D&V too. Urrrrgh. It never rains but it pours( or insert own homily here). DS had the D for 2 days but seemed fine. (Quarantined though) and then the V for 2 days during which he lay on the sofa hardly moving or talking except to cry when we ate and he couldn't and to apologise and cry when he was sick. just remembering it.

Clairey we constantly reinforced how proud we were of him that he was being so brave and trying to get his sick in the bucket and how sorry we were he was poorly and how he wasn't naughty if he was sick elsewhere and how it wasn't a punishment that he couldn't eat - just to help him get better quickly. But he still cried....

OP posts:
Wizzska · 05/05/2009 14:12

Arcadie - yes, credit crunch reasons. Am currently working a 6 week notice. Just rang home and heard DS wimpering pitifully in the background . I just want to run home to cuddle him.

BouncingTurtle · 05/05/2009 14:49

Poor Wizz... sorry about your bad news.

BTW the people I'm contracting for are still looking for people, CAT me or contact me on Facebook if you want me to tell you more about it.
Looking at the availibility of hours and the fact they've increased the cap to 50 hours a week (the amount one person is allowed to work) tells me they are still needing people.

Wizzska · 05/05/2009 15:38

Thanks BT.

DH and I are trying to be positive. It could work out well for us in the long run because I've been wanting to quit since ML, but the credit crunch has meant it was more sensible for me to take the regular wage and DH to SAH. We've been wanting to get our gardening business running for a couple of years now. Still it is always a bit of a shock when you're forced into things.

insywinsyspider · 05/05/2009 15:53

sorry to hear your news wizz and best of luck with the gardening business, it could be best thing if its something you've been meaning to do but it must be scarey too - hope ds gets better soon, are you ttc at the mo as well?

arcadie glad to hear ds is on the mend, I hate it when ds's are sick, we're still waiting for the age when they can understand what is going on, ds1 is just about getting there as he can tell us where it hurts and be sick in a bowl, fingers crossed we don't get anything else for a while

well its going ok here, ds's stayed at mu mum and dads on saturday night and my mum gave ds2 a quilt instead of his growbag and now he's sleeping tho she's great really but trying not to get OTT with praise otherwise she'll be suggesting all kinds of things

claireybee · 05/05/2009 16:53

Sorry to hear that Wizz. Am I right in thinking you were semi expecting it? I remember you saying something along those lines ages ago I think. Still not nice when it happens though.

Arcadie glad ds is a bit better now

claraquack · 06/05/2009 10:34

Hi all - sorry, I've been away for a while, we had a lovely holiday in the Isle of Wight. The dd's seemed to enjoy themselves - dd1's highlight was the steam train and the water slide and barrel ride at Blackgang Chine. Dd2's highlight was the fish pond she kept trying to throw herself into at the botanical gardens and the ferry over (one of her words is "boat" which she used fairly constantly...). My highlight was the coffee and walnut cake...no, the sticky toffee pudding....or the ice-cream (having lost lots of weight and now weighing less than I have for years I decided to indulge a bit!).

Congrats Cazzy - I am one of four and can reassure you that growing up in a big family doesn't damge you. Much! I think my youngest brother got pretty much ignored and you would be hard pressed to find many pictures of him but he's fairly normal now so not much harm done Actually I've got lots of happy memories of playing great games with my brothers, things like Swallows and Amazons as there were enough of us (that's aged me!). And of course it means there's more children to look after you in your old age

Sorry to hear about the redundancy Whizz but good luck with the gardening business. I often think everything happens for a reason so there is probably some meaning to all of this...

Skid - hope you're feeling better, I do remember stopping breastfeeding sent my hormones crazy. I am seeing a counsellor now but only done two sessions. I find it great to be able to talk to someone but not yet sure if it will have any lasting benefit - time will tell.

Clairey - glad to hear you're getting things sorted with your dh, I can see why you were pissed off with him and it does sound like a communication issue. He's probably angry because he's feeling guilty about not letting you have what will make you happy. But there isn't much you can do about it - if you want a third child, you want a third child - you can't help how you feel. Hopefully now he knows it isn't something you want immediately he'll stop being so cross about it all.

Hello everyone else, hope all LO's are well and looking forward to hearing more news of new pregnancies - must be some more coming soon!!

Wizzska · 06/05/2009 11:32

Clairey - yes I'd been expecting redundancy for so long that I'd begun to think it wouldn't happen. Still, that's how it goes I suppose.

Clara - sounds like a great holiday. Bless your DD for saying 'boat'. DS is still fixated with planes, but his word for plane sounds more like 'clun' at the moment.

Insy - yes ttc at the moment.

spiralqueen · 06/05/2009 11:45

Wizz - sorry to hear your news. Will you be getting much compensation to put into the new business or is it the bare minimum like so many others? I've often thought about getting someone to come and keep my little garden tidy but I don't know what the going rate is and how often they'd need to come.

Hope all the LOs are over their illnesses, my DD had 2 teeth come through last week including a molar so she was pretty out of sorts for a lot of the week. Took her out shopping and she wasn't terribly happy. Thought I'd cracked it by giving her some teething powders and a blackcurrant lolly in a tube which cheered her up, but foolishly let her hold on to it in the car on the way home. Got home and found she'd squished a whole load of it out of the tube and it was melting all over her and the seat.

[walks to the back of parenting class]

Must be getting something right though as DD pointed to a book this morning and said "please". Woo hoo . For some reason though she always whispers "please" and says everything else in a normal volume. Can't work out why

becklespeckle · 06/05/2009 12:40

Hi guys! You know you've been gone from MN too long when...it takes almost an hour to catch up with all the news!

Insy, your pic is fab! Hope you're feeling better now!

Clairey and Insy, back to your discussions on daytime naps, DD usually sleeps 2 hours in the afternoon but I find that some days she is tireder than others so won't last until after lunch. Today I put her to bed at 10.30 as I knew we were out this afternoon, she is still there although starting to stir so will be awake soon for lunch. On days when she has a morning nap I let her sleep as long as she likes, even if it means not having her lunch until 2.30 or so. If she has an earlier morning nap and is up again by 1 I will also let her have 40 minutes or so after picking the boys up from school so she is not too grumpy from teatime until bedtime.

Clairey, have you had any of the results of your tests back yet? Glad you have cleared the air a little with DH, my DH and I used to row a bit about having a 3rd baby. He knew I wanted another but I never pushed it, he was not keen on having any more as he'd always only wanted 2. Like you I never pushed the issue but I guess it is always there, unsaid. Eventually it was his suggestion to have a 3rd baby, he just came out with it at the dinner table one night! It has worked out well though as DS2 started school the week DD was born (not so good for him) so I get plenty of time for her without the boys losing out.

BT, Daniel is so cute! Fab little fashion show!

Sprialqueen, your DD is gorgeous, all that hair! Bless her! My DD is also making animal sounds a lot at the moment, she loves it (although sheep are always cats since we saw some lambs at an open farm and she thought that's what they were...). I am rubbish at pig noises too but I try and DD's sound remarkably like mine, hey I know it's a pig though! It must be hard to know you can have no more babies, I don't really want any more but would hate to not have the option. You do already have one little miracle though so perhaps you will be lucky enough to have another, if not then you have her and she is wonderful.

Buzzy, we are thankfully not having any dressing hassles at the moment, DD loves trying clothes on and will happily stand in front of me while I do buttons up on her dresses and tie bows on the back and stuff. Like Cazzy's Evie she is obsessed with shoes though, I would say it was her first proper word when she was around 10 months old!

Cazzy, congrats on your pg!

Wizz, sorry to hear about your redundancy, not the best news although hopefully it will give you a chance to concentrate on your business instead. I have a friend who does landscaping and gardens and he says he's never been busier, I guess people are improving their homes instead of selling them and spending time in their gardens instead of going away on holiday.

Clara, hiya, sounds like you had a fab holiday!

Is there anyone else not given their LO the MMR yet??? Evie has missed hers a couple of times due to being ill but now I am worried about giving it to her and compromising her immune system when there is all this swine flu stuff about...any thoughts?

Also, I am off to the doctors next week as I am still having bleeding problems, after stopping the pill to try and bring on a proper period I did eventually get one but then a week later I was spotting again - arghhhh! Definitely not pregnant (have tested to check) so not sure what's going on there, all in all have been spotting on and off for a couple of months now at least.

Right, DD now awake and singing so must go fetch her and give her lunch before her afternoon of fighting playdate with my friend's little boy this afternoon!

insywinsyspider · 06/05/2009 12:49

hi beckle - sounds like your dd and my ds have the same napping patterns, he's really trying to get to one nap a day, its bliss putting him and ds1 down for a nap at 1pm together and I can have some down time too - must get baby onto that routine before ds1 drops his nap aswell!

On MMR Toby had his a couple of weeks late (in Jan) and was poorly for at least 2 weeks with it to be honest I don't think there is ever a good time to do it, not sure how if affects them catching other bugs but I just decided I didn't want to risk him catching measles from nursery (which is v irrational as I had it when little and it was just viewed a childhood illness then like chicken pox...) our nursery seems to get regular suspeted measles outbreaks - its a difficult decision to make, sorry not much help there!

claireybee · 06/05/2009 13:31

Insy your ds1 still has a nap?

DD dropped hers soon after ds was born (probably couldn't sleep with all the screaming!) though she does still have some downtime in the afternoon where she just sits and reads or watches tv and sometimes she'll just take herself off up to bed if she is especially tired.

Beckle hope they sort the bleeding soon, must be a PITA. DS had his MMR at 15 months along with a couple of other jabs, it's difficult when you are worried about them catching something else on top though...

Wizz Beckle makes a good point actually, I've never been into gardening but recently have been doing quite a bit because we are spending more
i
time at home and I want it to look nice . I love the country garden look with all the weeds poppies and cornflowers etc

Clara glad you enjoyed your holiday. How long til the big move?

Spiralqueen I remember dd used to whisper
please too
