effie, hope ds1 feels better

Daisy, poor you! Is there any way you can get a rest during the day? I usually doze on the sofa when ds2 goes for a nap & ds1 entertains himself [bad mummy alert]

kayzr · 02/04/2009 08:42

Morning,

PMK I second(third) Spot and Ros, if DS2 winges I try him with his dummy as he just needs it sometimes to get to sleep. But if he is hungry he just spits it out and screams.

DS2 also tries to hold his bottle. He also pulls my fingers off the bottle.

Hope you are all well.

pmk1 · 02/04/2009 08:49

I'm confused about the spitting dummy part?? I think my post was confusing - he doesn't spit it in the middle of the night when he has been waking - only spits it after his last feed at 10pm when he is totally stuffed full... So are you saying you think he may not be hungry since he accepts dummy when he wakes during the night? Or do you think he is hungry?

OP posts:
pmk1 · 02/04/2009 08:52

ros I re-read your post - I guess what you are saying is you don't think he's hungry as he wouldn't just go back to sleep like he does? (sorry i'm tired!) If so, does that mean I need to wean him off it? How! he doesn't need it when he first goes down as he spits it then so not sure what would happen in the middle of night.... Up coming trip to Aust in a month.... not sure I should get him off it just yet maybe I should?

for all the total FF-ers - does anyone have these sudden 4 month waking things if they have previously slept through who are totally formula fed? I'm be interested to hear...

OP posts:
kayzr · 02/04/2009 09:24

Pmk DS2 seems to be sleeping through for about a week then he wakes at least once a night for a week. He does this sort of cycle of a week of sleeping and a week of waking.

I've just realised I have to sell my favourite boots as they don't fit anymore.

pmk1 · 02/04/2009 09:30

Kayz it has been every night since it started. He used to sleep 9pm-7am (since he was 8 weeks) then (just last week) started waking at 0500 so started feeding him then then 0430 (didn't feed} then at 0300 and now 0200! he only every wakes once when he wakes - and only once I have fed him in the middle of the night which was the 0300 time he woke up....

spotofcheerfulness · 02/04/2009 09:30

PMK T has been total FF since 8 weeks and has slept through til 6.30 twice since then . The rest of the time he's up at 3 or 5. Then 6.30 for the day.
I think the dummy thing means that your DS isn't hungry when he wakes or he'd just spit it out soon and scream.
As for weaning them off the dummy, there's a good bit in the no cry sleep solution about that - apparently you wait until their vigorous sucking has stopped, then pull it out and hold their chin so their mouth closes, then when they start rooting again, but it back in, but wait 10 secs then pull it out again, then continue (apparently can take about 5 or 6 goes like that) then they eventually go to sleep (assuming they're not hungry) without the dummy (or boob) in their mouth.
Not tried it yet for T as he's not feeding enough in the day for me to discount genuine hunger but seems like a good tip for the future

traceface · 02/04/2009 09:59

PMK that Kellymom thing about 4 months sounds such common sense! P's day feeds have been getting shorter because she seems to want to smile at me instead!
Well I just did day 2 of try the bottle of EBM before giving the boob ( i figure if I try every day she'll grasp it one day...)...anyway she actually growled at me!!! I gave up and gave her my boob and she gave me a massive gummy grin!
have just heard and smelt a very explosive rear end so best dash before it emerges through the clothes!

Morning dear girls

Been busy again. Oxford Literary Festival yesterday. A mate of mine gave a wonderful talk about his new book which is about following the flight of the swallow from South Wales to South Africa, and it was very exciting as he got to go to Congo and Gabon and Cameroon and Algeria...Brazzaville in Congo was full of spies...I love travelling, I love Africa and I have now got very itchy feet. He saw the Pygmies...I am feeling very wistful. But then I came home and watched the football and then the very cute Woody Allen film ' Everyone Says I Love You'. It's a musical and a particular fave of mine.

Ros and Spot - I missed The Apprentice last night but will watch later, so no one tell me who got the flick! The ones who annoy me are the girl who nearly got rubbed out last week - I think she is called Debra and has a wide, spiteful face and also that teacher bloke who dribbles off at the mouth spouting utter rubbish.

Survey on new house arrived when I was out - 25 pages of doom and gloom. I haven't addressed my mind to it properly yet (not quite brave enough, need more coffee) but I am cheesed off as it will mean lots of work to the house, lots of trying to get money off the price (roof problems etc)...

Daisy, your MIL has got form for misbehaving hasn't she? Very irritating behaviour.

Sweet pics, Verso and Kayz!

How's our Syb today? You sound like I was about a week ago. I have notably cut down on the cheerfulness since then, so there is an upside

PMK - DD has been ff since day 1 and she's been sleeping from about 12 until 8ish for about the last 4-6 weeks when she finally ditched the 4am feed. She is just over 18 weeks, I think. I am acutely aware how lucky I am (it's just freaky) and that it could change at any moment. I really do feel for everyone with sleep woes. The first few weeks I struggled with it, I have to be honest, and the thought of that sicky/headachey/spacey/depressed feeling that you get from sleep deprivation...well, my heart goes out to you. Every day I wake up wondering if she is going to change, as they seem to go through so many phases. If she doesn't, I feel sure I will get it in the neck with the next baby (as my poor Mum did with me).

Verso · 02/04/2009 10:11

kayz lovely photos!! and thanks for making me all misty-eyed re the new December thread. WHEN will I stop being broody? >slaps self with wet fish<

spot my hair was falling out for about four weeks, and now seems to have slowed down. I remember it from after DD1. The worst time is when I wash my hair as I have to put a little drain catcher thing in the plughole and then fish it all out afterwards >eww emoticon<

daisy are you likely to get an apology from your MIL? Does she even understand why you were annoyed? on your behalf.

ros I watched the Apprentice last night as I was round at my Mum's getting a night OFF! I don't usually get to watch grown up TV because I go to bed as near to 8pm as I can, just to get SOME sleep in. I can't believe some of the stuff they served up as "canapes"!! It's difficult to watch, but difficult to look away... unbelievable!

wg sorry to hear you were up last night/this morning but I do like your "god of irony" comment!

Apparently DH had a bad night last night - partly because he'd JUST got DD2 back to sleep when my mother decided to go to the bathroom and jiggled the door handle very LOUDLY (it's a slightly loose fitting but impossible to tighten up) and woke DD2 up. He wasn't in the best of humours this morning.

ros do you find the dreamfeed works? We've been trying it with DD2 but she just wakes up anything from one to two hours later. I think DH may get his wish and be relieved from duty soon as it just isn't working for us .

(DD2 is currently working on a SERIOUS nappy... it's been like Russion roulette the past few days - not that DH does many nappies at all - but I was hoping she might have sorted her insides out last night while I was off duty... apparently not! )

daisy you have my utmost sympathy and the booby (?) prize for worst night on the thread so far I think. (You do realise the prize will be coming straight back to me tomorrow, don't you? So please keep it polished up!) Seriously though, sounds like a knackering night and I feel for you.

Have to take DD2 for her third lot of vaccinations today - a week late. NOT looking forward to it at all.

Thank you everyone for the compliments on my photos . I completely agree with you, but then I'm biased. No idea where DD1 gets her looks from, it completely skipped a generation as far as I can tell!

jumpjockey · 02/04/2009 10:20

Morning all, 3 pages since yesterday evening? Busy lot!

well just a quick one as I'm taking her into town to meet a mate from work, but daisy I did laugh at your DD's pillow jumping on her head!

Yesterday was DD's sort of 1st birthday - 1st April was the day we got the BFP, kind of ironic really, DH failed to realise it could all have been a trick using pink felt tip pen

keep up the lovely baby pics, am adoring from afar

verso v glad to hear you were totally un disturbed by door handle rattling, good work

kayzr · 02/04/2009 10:23

Sorry Verso I didn't mean to make you even more broody. I'm glad you had a decent sleep. I hope she sleeps for you tonight.

daisydora · 02/04/2009 10:33

verso I will not be expecting an apology from my MIL. None of her other GC have much of a routine. So he finds me very unreasonable when it comes to putting kids to bed/meal times etc. When she used to have her for the day, she would never put her down for a nap in the day. She used to say she wasn't tired and that if she was she would just fall asleep. So I would take her home and she was often in bed by 6pm completely exhausted. I was glad when she decided she couldn't look after her on a regular basis DD is exhausted this morning and being a bit testing to say the least. I'm trying not to shout at her because we are both tired and its not her fault really.

Thanks for the booby prize btw

pmk1 · 02/04/2009 10:40

Hi lady what is her pattern like before 12 when she goes down for the night?
spot hmmm when to start the dummy weaning

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 02/04/2009 10:56

Well PMK...she normally has a feed between 6 or 7 then she is off to bed and she normally goes off until we wake her for the last feed before we go to bed. But when we put her to bed at 7, she goes in the grobag and has her dummy so she knows it's 'night'.

spotofcheerfulness · 02/04/2009 12:20

Wasn't able to post a pic here for some reason but here's the link to a pic of Mr T on Fbook in his bumbo. 'twas yesterday when he was happy. Today he is a little beanbag full of wind and doesn't want to eat anything , though looking at his pic you might think he doesn't need to!

pmk1 · 02/04/2009 12:48

Really cute Spot!!
Well B is still napping in his cot!!! nearly 3 hours now!! see... he just can't handle waking in the night, so he really doesn't want to!! Just off phone to Mum and she said the thing that work for her was the 6,10,2,6,10 time feeds and then after that last one we slept through but it was from about 4 months not 8 weeks like B did!! She thinks it sounds like not getting enough in the day so I'm def doing the top up after each BF now... Quick (prob dumb) question... Is BF more calorific than FF if you know what I mean?? ie: Is one 7 oz bottle of EBM equivalent to one 7oz bottle of formula if that makes sense?
Lady that is exactly what I did last night so hopefully if I stick to that, and up the intake during the day it will see him through, although the way he accepts the dummy as enough at 2am like everyone says may make my theory rubbish... unless.... maybe it's his new sheep that puts him back as I always put that on with the dummy

OP posts:
Verso · 02/04/2009 13:00

pmk I think formula and breast milk are similar in numbers of calories overall, but the difficulty with comparing them is that the consistency of breastmilk varies throughout a feed. The thin foremilk has fewer calories than the hindmilk.
kellymom on breastmilk

kellymom on other milks

DD2 is miraculously NAPPING. AGAIN! I thought after the turmoil of the past four (six?) weeks of growth-spurt hell that she would never nap again. Blimey.

pmk1 · 02/04/2009 13:14

Thanks Verso that's helpful
So Glad DD2 has settled a lot recently. Things are looking up it sounds - especially with the 2 nights off a week

Top news about DD2 , Verso .

kayzr · 02/04/2009 15:31

Hello,

Just got back from the GP and I honestly want to kill her. I am constantly tired and I am getting a headache 5 out of 7 days. Even when DS2 sleeps all night I feel exhausted. So I was a bit worried I am anaemic. I was at the end of my pregnancy and MW said it should sort itself out but if I still feel really tired to see GP.

GP said to me "You have a baby, were you expecting to feel bright and rosy? Come back in 4-6 months if you still feel like this"

I nearly burst into tears but luckily stopped myself.

Veggiemummy · 02/04/2009 16:21

Right just bookmarking have a sore boobie went to GP for ABs but it has settled with Phytolacca so maybe it's not a non infective mastitis, feeling a bit fluey and tired though. Also got some Aveeno for ds2 as he is a bit sand papery at the moment. Now sitting down watching the trainspotters guide to the east midlands, yahoo we live it fast and loose in the veggie household.

Veggiemummy · 02/04/2009 16:23

Can someone tell me why I don't have any all butter triple belgium chocolate biscuits in the house.

kayzr · 02/04/2009 16:26

Because you are supposed to be on a diet Veggie, Hope you feel better soon.
