thanks pmk!

JamInMyWellies · 25/03/2009 18:05

off to read up on other thread back later.

waitinggirl · 25/03/2009 18:18

hi all - lal - what happened to the rfh meet up thread? can't find it - when is it being mooted? (smiles at the use of the word moot)

EffiePerine · 25/03/2009 18:39

Great!

Lovely to see Ros and PD today, we did get rained on a little but the boys had a fabulous time (though I suspect the highlight was the many aeroplanes flying over on their way to Heathrow).

LadyT: good to see you back!

Arti: glad you're feeling a little better, hope the ABs and assorted remedies help.

Am having a little wobble over DS2's wobbly head, he can't really keep it steady at all. I'm sure DS1 was looking around more at this age (DS2 is 12 weeks), When are they supposed to be able to lift their heads properly?

Veggiemummy · 25/03/2009 18:42

Oh Ros and Yorkshire ladies let me know where when you are meeting some of those places are quite close to me, but have just discovered I can get to York in an hour and a half!

Lovely as always to hear from you lady, and thank you for the wave. You have given me a hankering for crumpets now have to order ocado tonight so will pop them on.

Pmk I love your last few post on the last thread made me giggle. Thanks for starting the thread. That is difficult with your MIL I love living here but it is always our intention to go back eventually Australia will always be home. I know what you mean about the work thing though, DH has a brilliant job here that is not only stimulating for him and good for the bank balance but also allows him to be at home heaps which is worth living here for as the boys get to see him so much. I don't think it will be like that back home.

Had a lovely afternoon I met a friend with her kids at a lovely local park we let the boys run wild and they had a great time climbing trees rolling down hills collecting all sorts of nature and generally get all muddy. They loved it. Ds2 enjoyed being front facing in the sling and has settled to bed now nicely. When we got home dh and a friend were plumbing in the new dishwasher so no more dishpan hands hooray!!!

kayzr · 25/03/2009 18:43

Hello,

Welcome back LadyT Ros I can only really do York so if you'd rather meet in Leeds that's fine. I'll just come next time you are up here.

Ds2 is at the GP tomorrow. I'm getting this bent foot MIL was going on about checked just incase.

Veggiemummy · 25/03/2009 18:55

Oh Kayz I'd forgotten you'd mention that before ds2 still has slightly bent in feet too I think it is to do with how squished in they get in the womb so I think it's fine but never hurts to go to GP. Effie developmental stages ate very broad you can encourage head control by holding them around their waist whilst on your lap or propping up at times. Does he lift or at least try to lift his head when on his belly? If your very concerned and want some reassurance or just to check you could have chat to his HV.

kayzr · 25/03/2009 19:09

DS2 has just grabbed my finger and chewed it. For a baby with no teeth it didn't half hurt.

artichokes · 25/03/2009 19:49

Yay - I have made it downstairs for the first time in three days. This is an exciting breakthrough as I can use the laptop and post properly rather than wrestling with the tiny keys on my phone. I am about to try eating something so wish me luck with that.

Lal - I will go and check FB now. Thanks for taking the time to help me. I hope you have a fab time at the theatre tonight.

LadyT - Lovely to see you back. I am glad your legs are healing and you had a nice time at your Mum's. Thanks for thinking of me on Mothering Sunday (now that you have educated me I will use the proper term). How did O do with her other granny over the weekend? We are drowning in a pool of drool too.

Turnip - Are you loving your new iPhone yet?

Effie - Sorry you are worried about the wobbly head. I am sure its nothing, as Veggie says, they all develop differently. If it will give you peace of mind then get him checked.

Poison - I have been meaning to say that I was really sorry to hear your brother is undergoing chemo. It is a total bugger of a treatment but so worth it if it works. I will keep my fingers crossed for him.

Kayz - good luck at the GP tomorrow.

I am having a little wobble about the house girls. We are meant to exchange this week but we took the PiLs at the weekend and they didn't like it . They said it was too dark and they would never but east facing. Since they have said that it is all I can think about. Then today the family we share a nanny with announced they were selling. They are on the street next door to the house we are buying and have slightly more space and a south facing garden (albeit a slightly smaller one). They are going on the market for the same price we are buying for but would sell to us without an agent saving us all 1.75%. However, if we try to purchase a new house we will break our chain - really hurting those above us and relying on those below us to wait while we re-assemble a new chain. Also I loved the house until the PiL's saw it. Hmmmmm. Just thinking about it all is amking me feel quite ill again.

artichokes · 25/03/2009 19:55

Sorry, I also meant to thank Veggie for pretending my dissertation subject was interesting. Even more excitingly I once contributed to a paper on evolutionary perspectives on incest avoidance.

daisydora · 25/03/2009 20:12

Phew, have just about caught up and found new thread!
arti glad to hear you are feeling a bit better (and now downstairs). On the BF note, you have done amazingly well so far. You must do what is right for you.

ladyT good to see you back and glad to hear the legs are on the mend it all sounds very painful!

effie I wouldn't worry abou the wobbly head. Although the other day I had convinced myself DS was a 'slow learner' because he couldn't roll onto his tummy. For some reason I thought DD could do this at this stage, but I think it was probably my mind playing tricks! FWIW DS still quite wobbly! Like he's had too much cheerfulness

Speaking of cheerfulness, great thread title! Can't remember half of what I wanted to say now........

traceface · 25/03/2009 20:27

Hello!
arti glad you're a little perkier - that's a difficult one about the house. hmm. I wouldn't let breaking the chain be a reason not to pull out - after all this is a major thing and you don't want to do something you'd regret for the sake of disrupting the chain. On the other hand, if you were happy with it until the PIL's comment, then maybe you should just put your hands over your ears and la la la over their opinion. It's you who will live there, not them. If it is a little dark I'm sure Turnip will have suggestions on how to brighten things up! When I have a hard decision I pretend that I've made the decision and then test my reaction, eg, I'd imagine the first house was all signed and sealed, and ask yourself how you feel (are you a bit disappointed or really chuffed?) and then imagine the second house is yours and do the same. Kind of tricking yourself into getting your true feelings out!

Well Phoebe is covered in a rash Well not covered because it's not on her arms or legs, but her front and back are VERY red and spotty. She seems well in herself, although her poo has been more liquidy today, but looks terrible. Doesn't look to me like any rash in particular so I'll see what tomorrow brings and maybe get her checked if it's any worse. The only thing I can think of, other than general viralness, is that I put Diprobase on her tummy for the first time this morning. She's been having it on her legs and arms for a while with no probs and her tummy felt dry this morning, so I out some on there too. Veggie do you think that could cause a reaction? I wouldn't have thought there was much in it to react to? And surely she would react on her arms and legs too if it were that? DH looked horrified when I showed him her rash!

Could someone please say to me in a very stern voice that I must stop eating chocolate covered honeycomb?

Veggiemummy · 25/03/2009 21:31

Trace you must eat chocolate covered honeycomb.

Trace am I right in remembering that L had a bit of asthma recently and a little cold. Could be a little post viral rash or rash associated with the asthma. The inflamation in the airways can then come out in the skin. That's why kids who get asthma often also have eczema. Most likely all three are associated. Does that make sense Trace. It's unlikely to be the cream but you could always stop it for 24hrs and then start it again to check.

Hooray Arti that's great how is feeding from the effected boob feeling. I wasn't pretending I do like that title. Also a little interested in the other one. Mainly because I watched a program on the Rapa Nui of Easter island. They are not allowed to marry someone who is related to them within the last 8 generations. With such a small population it is starting to cause problems. The idea was to reduce birth defects but it's a bit extreme.

Veggiemummy · 25/03/2009 21:33

Oh Trace that must have been a typo about the chocolate oh well done now.

zoejeanne · 25/03/2009 21:45

I love the new title pmk. I did enjoy being one of Nanny Anne?s apprentices, she?s much nicer than Sir Alan

Verso what a terrible night you had last night. I hope the HV was as good and supportive today as she was last week, and that you also got some chance of some rest today to recharge yourself a little bit

Babymakes4 you also sound to have had a rough night, I hope today wasn?t the battle you thought it might be?

Ros, Yorkshire ladies and Jolly 9 April is good for me too, how exciting!

Veggie do you mean the National Railway Museum? If so, I?m sure your DS would have a fab time. There?s always lots of families there and there?s plenty of interactive things to keep little ones entertained, as well as the trains too (full sized ones, not model ones) I don?t know about the model railway museum though. And I?ve been thinking of you lots today ? DD has a vest with pictures of vegetables on it and it says veggie baby, I got it as a reference to DH?s life job, but now it makes me think of you

Trace I have a stash of flapjacks upstairs, for snacking during the night feeds, mmm, midnight feasts always taste so good And if I had some chocolate honeycomb, I?d be eating it right now!

Arti great to hear your feeling better today, I hope you keep on recovering quickly. How difficult about the house, I don?t think I can help, but our house is long and thin and runs directly north/south, so we only have windows on the east and west (and not many on the west) and we?ve never found daylight a problem (well only in that the morning sun really shows up my mucky windows )

LadyT great to hear you got to spend a few days with your Mum, I hope she spoilt both you and DD?

Tonight I?m feeling very flat and drained, DD has hardly slept all day ? just half an hour this morning and half an hour this afternoon ? and so has been shattered all day and just whinged none stop. I find that so wearing, I know nothing is really wrong so my sympathy for her isn?t great, and the constant whinge whinge whinge really makes me want to tear my hair out and cry. I shouldn?t complain, as I know restless days are not a patch on the sleepless nights that some of you are suffering, and I'm very thankful that normally E is good at night, but I?m just feeling flat and missing DH, so hoped you?d listen. Thanks, and I hope I haven?t dragged you down too. Going to run a nice bath and take my book with me. xx

katie3677 · 25/03/2009 21:59

Veggie,you make me laugh

Arti difficult one about the house. It's a huge decision and investment so don't feel guilty about breaking the chain if that is what you need to do. Glad you're feeling better.

Effie DD is also a wobbly one. I am not very good at putting her on her front as she seems to hate it, but must make more of an effort.

I am still aching from my ride. I used to ride at least twice a week before I moved to London but obviously seriously under estimated my fitness levels. However, I enjoyed it so much and DS also enjoyed his lesson so I am going to start taking him to riding lessons and then I'll go off for a hack whilst he is doing that. That's the plan anyway, but not quite sure what I'll do with DD.

I went to a weaning talk today run by Sure Start. It was appalling, it was a student HV running it and she was more than useless and I basically ended up doing the talk because she couldn't answer anybodys questions. So no weaning words of wisdom gleaned here I'm afraid.

Kayz the bailiffs were very scary at first, although once they realised that I was just going to pay up they got a bit nicer. Nevertheless I was not amused, and needless to say DH got a wrath of s**t when he got home, annoyingly 10 minutes after they'd been.

Great thread title, and glad MN seems to have sorted itself out.

Off to bed, my kids were up at some ungodly hour this morning and need to look beautiful tomorrow for my Dad's handover ceremony as High Sherriff. x

katie3677 · 25/03/2009 22:05

Oh and Trace, I read your post this morning and you inspired me to finally get off my arse and do some cleaning, as a result I have been like the Tasmanian Devil whenever L has been sleeping, but the house is now clean...almost . Can you pass over some chocolate covered honeycomb, sounds yum!

SybilFaulty · 25/03/2009 22:56

bookmarked for tomorrow, night all xx

Veggiemummy · 25/03/2009 23:17

Katie that is very annoying about the weaning talk bet she looked a bit embarassed she won't be getting a good report for this placement.

jumpjockey · 26/03/2009 04:40

morning... hello bisou, you might be up for a sensible reason! and hello anyone else at this ungodly hour...

any ideas as to how to persuade dd that 4.15 is not time to wake up for the day...? Woke at midnight for a feed, then for various other reasons (snuffles, wind, hungry again) at 1.30, 2.15, 3, 3.30 and now 4.15 all playful and exceptionally wriggly and won't get the sleeping message... have brought her downstairs so dh can stay asleep am trying the lullaby cd which is calming her a bit,but she's still looking round and grinning and cooing at everything [yawn] It's weird as she had a good day yesterday, ots of naps (albeit short ones) so shouldn't be over tired. Probably the darn teeth

pmk1 · 26/03/2009 06:36

JJ I sort of followed Arti's advice and didn't let him nap (much) after 5pm, except I did time it really badly and had to give him about 40 mins or so right at about 530 but it was much improved from the last 3 nights when he had been unusually waking at 430 - I def think it was due to early evening naps as last night he slept through again - well until 545am - so is your dd napping later in the day?
Katie weaning talk sounds dissapointing
Arti Good news you are feeling better - don't go through with the house if you decide it's not what you want for fear of breaking the chain - it's a big purchase

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 26/03/2009 07:23

jj: DS2 has been awake from 4 as well, I just brought him into bed and he has been snacking while I snooze - then DS1 woke at 6. They are both happy and smiley while DH and I are grumping at each other!

Thanks for all your kind words on wobbly heads . Must get DS2 on his front more, he does lift his head when he's on his tummy. He also loves trying to stand up (supported of course) so will do that more... feeling guilty about sticking him on the chair/playmat/in the pram so 'i can deal with DS1.

Trace: do you mean cinder toffee? I love the stuff but you can't get it in the sweetie wasteland that is London... I have to stock up when I visit my parents (along with aniseed balls and pontefract cakes).

For those interested in Brideshead, it's on itv player
(go to itv.com then click on Classics). Not as good as the iplayer, so you're at the mercy of your bandwidth and you have annoying adverts, but worth it. We got to my all-time favourite scene yesterday where Anthony Blanche meets Charles at the art gallery: 'take me to see Charles' unhealthy pictures!' Faultless.

rosisdreamingofchocolate · 26/03/2009 08:21

morning all, how is everyone?

Sympathies to the early wakers, anything before 7 is still sleepy time in our house, not that it works!

arti glad you've made it downstairs, did you manage to eat something? With the house its best to be absolutely certain & not to worry about breaking the chain. We bought our current house because we didn't want to break the chain but wish we hadn't now. We saw a much nicer one and in hindsight, should've got that one instead! Can you imagine yourself living there in 10 yrs time?

trace how's P's rash this morning? Hope its cleared up

zj ikwym about whinging all day. Ds2 does it as well when he's tired but will not go to sleep. I feel bad for getting irritated with him but they do forget about it.

yorkshire girls I'm happy to meet in York. I can either drive there or catch the train. Perhaps we should take this onto email so we don't bore everyone else!

I'm not sure what's going on with ds1 but he seems to be very tired & emotional lately. The smallest thing can make him burst into tears. I'm inclined to think its a bit of a growth spurt as he has got noticeably taller in the last couple of weeks. Think we're going to have a pj day at home, build a den & chill out.

jumpjockey · 26/03/2009 08:59

pmk - the afternoon nap was no different to what she normally does?? She went to sleep at about 5.15 then got woken by dh's alarm at 6.45 Applied to boob at 7 even though she wasn't hungry in a desperate attempt to get her to sleep, had been wriggling and nibbling and finally quieted down at 8 when some lads started moving the rubble of what used to be next door's bathroom into a skip in the road, one wheelbarrow at a time so at the back of the house there's the noise of the wheelbarrows being loaded up, at the front the banging and crashing as it hits the skip.

so not much chance of naps in the house for us today

oh well, dd having yet another feed so maybe that will knock her out for a bit [optimistic icon] will catch up later...

Verso · 26/03/2009 09:35

trace both DD1 and I have had nasty reactions to diprobase - so it could definitely be that causing the rash.

jj you have my complete sympathy for your awful night. I truly know how it feels. I find just getting through the day a real struggle.

However I luckily had sleep last night . DH and my Mum did the night shift between them! I was woken by the need to express at 4am but otherwise had a fab sleep.

arti v glad to hear you're on the mend. Not sure what to advise re house except don't buy one you're not sure about...

katie I missed your post re bailiffs. Sounds v scary. We had the bailiffs round here last year chasing the former occupants. I'm glad I wasn't in!

HV came yday but she was half an hour late and didn't ring the doorbell. As I was upstairs w DD2 I didn't hear her. I have GP today.
