Thought I'd start us up a post-natal thread for the new mummies of March 09 (or thereabout!)

Belated Happy Ostara everyone! (I'm a Druid rather than a Christian). Is it me or is the time just flying by? Gabriel has his first jabs next week and delighted me by sleeping for four hours last night (bless him).

In other news, my DS1 (who will be 3 in a couple of weeks and has cerebral palsy) IS WALKING!!!! He can walk all the way from the back door to the lounge on his own

I'm in the middle of trying to arrange a Keeping In Touch day with work, time moves on! (Non-UK mums, we get up to 10 KIT days while on mat leave, which are paid as ordinary working days).

meep · 15/04/2009 10:46

corgi at the Belgian beurocrasy - but your storry did make me laugh! I'll let you know how we do in Scotland when dh pitches up one week late!

babyalfie Rosie likes to have her arms free when she is swaddled - so I just lie her down on a small sheet and tuck in round her body - then a blanket tucked in tighty on top - she sleeps with her hands and arms up round her head.

I couldn't get her settled last night - then tipped the moses basket up at her head end and she settled immediately. THink it helped with her snot and also if there is any milk regurge going on. DD1 stil sleeps with her cot propped up - so it may be worth a try.

lula that's a good stretch of sleep. The max I ever get is 4 hours at a time - normally 3 hours - but I can live with that!

Does anyone know if I can take painkillers/lemsip while on antibitics? Have a horrid head cold and I'm struggling to sleep!

laumiere that is lovely news about your ds1 - you must be thrilled to bits!

It's misty and cold here today - brrrr!

Hello all!

Just in case anyone wanted the details, I've just managed to do a birth announcement.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/birth_announcements/738988-Grinningbee-finally-pops?rnd=1239791942072

Hope it works!

Catch you later, when piglet has finished her all morning buffet

Slickbird · 15/04/2009 12:04

Grooooaaaaan. I'm so sore and stiff with all this baby/toddler lifting, pram lugging, teeth clenching and lack of sleep business. I really need a massage!

DS had me awake half the night, this time chucking up everywhere (like 8 times, over everything) and I rather suspect it is the medicin he is on for the oral thrush. Yesterday was hellish as he did not sleep all day and seemed to be on a(nother) bender. I was hoping he'd sleep well last night as I was done in, but, er...no. I'm, so exhausted. There are times I wake up and think 'Oh god, I just can't be arsed..' But I'm sure I'm not alone with this.

Corgi - Arrghh the frustration of lack of commonsense!!! A disease you find in almost everything these days. Drives me to dispair!

Laumiere Fantastic news about your DS walking. You must be so pleased!

I think babies sleep with their hands above their heads if they can because it opens up thier lungs and helps them breath better. But lots of little babies like being swaddled to start with and then eventually their arms wriggle free when they want them to.

Meep Have you called the reg office? The one I went to in Linlithgow were lovely and I think if you call them and explain your wound infection and all that they are pretty accommodating. I think they know how hard it can be in the first few weeks!

Oh Fat Boab, why won't you sleep? Better go. Am feeding DS2 at the same time. Luckily the MIL has taken the hyper nutcase, that is my 8 year old, swimming.

DH just called and after a lecture on how he thinks I should see how I can train myself to sleep better (I already know, find a house with no kids and a snoring husband...) He then said, "Well, better go and have some lunch." "Lucky you" I said. I secretly felt like telling him where he could shove his lunch....

Boobz · 15/04/2009 12:26

Hey grinning - that is some birth story! Was that nearly 80 hours from from 4cm dilated?! That is MAD! Well done you xxx

Slickbird · 15/04/2009 12:35

Corgi Meant to ask, what's this about Fennel Drops? Anything that could help aid his digestion would be welcome! Thanks.

meep · 15/04/2009 12:38

Phoned the Registry office - they have kindly granted us an extension to register Rosie's birth !

Wheelybug · 15/04/2009 15:54

I have a friend who's recently had prem twins and missed the deadline for registering and the registrar just extended the deadling - I tried to post this earlier but I lost my post... and now you've found out yourself.

Sorry to hear about the difficult nights/days/etc people are having. Ours are fair to middling I'd say - not great, but not terrible at the moment. Have to say though I am dreading the start of term next week as it'll be the first time I have to get us all out pre-9am. Thankfully its just pre-school and they're pretty understanding so we won't be in trouble if we're late. Having said that, we're usually late anyway so it probably won't change much . I think we'll have to go to bed in our clothes .

Meep - on the painkillers/antibiotics, I think its absolutely fine. I had IV ab's followed by a week's hefty course of tablets following Lara's birth and was on all the c-sec painkillers and that was on top of bfing too (no wonder Lara slept well in the beginning !).

I keep thinking I'm coming down with a cold but think it might just be hayfever starting - the last couple of years I've had it early but not once summer's really got going (if it ever has). Must find out if I can squirt stuff up my nose whilst bfing...

jollyjoanne · 15/04/2009 16:11

meep glad the registry office were understanding.

grinning that it is one impressively long labour, congratulations on getting through it and still being able to sound positive about the whole thing. My midwife was impressed at my 'it wasn't as bad as I'd expected' but we haven't got as far as thinking about anymore yet!

Welcome to the newbies!

slick I think my dh thinks i just spend the day at home watching tv and playing on the internet, which admittedly i do do, but i don't think he realises how long it take to do everything when you have a baby and really with feeding and settling and entertaining a baby you only have about 1 hour in every 3 to do anything!

OP posts:
meep · 15/04/2009 16:17

slick I liken having a newborn to Groundhog Day. You wake up knackered and think, oh god, here we go again!! But at least this time round I know that there are so many good bits waiting round the corner so I can cope. I have to say that I find the newborn bit really boring - I love the cuddles, but it is just endless sometimes!

Thanks wheely - my cold seems to be abating - still full of snot, but no longer in pain! Not sure about the hayfever stuff - my dh was also saying that he thought the season was upon him (we can't open our windows in summer or it flares up his asthma ) but it is bl**dy freezing here today so no problem!

Am in awe of you trying to get you all out to pre-school - I just can't imagine having to do all that before 9am!

jollyjoanne · 15/04/2009 16:22

apologies for the poor typing trying to feed and type.

laumiere congrats on ds1 walking.

fearless i have also heard about putting them down before they are asleep. i can do this with mae during the night and she will go to sleep but it is quite hard listening to the noises she makes before going to sleep. but when we first try to put her down it can be very hard and can involve numerous attempts and quite a lot of dummy retrieving.

I have hayfever at the moment too, not sure if we can take anything though, i was told not to when pregnant if i could manage, so had presumed it would be the same whilst bf, but may look into it further.

Elsy · 15/04/2009 16:30

Glad to hear (well not glad, but YKWIM) other people are finding it hard with 2. DD2 so colicy in the evenings that bedtime is a nightmare. DD1 gets upset with all the crying and my obviously rising stress levels and I really miss our quiet bedtimes. Also, it's so hard to come downstairs to chaotic house, no supper on the go and screaming baby until 10pm. If I could fast forward this colicy period, I would . In worst moments, I see it going on forever even though it was the same with DD1 and it went away by 2 months.

Meep DD2 has terrible digestion - it seems likes she's in pain most of the day, grunting and groaning and waking up from deep sleep. Am going to get some fennel oil to see if that helps, although she has an ultra sensitive gag reflex and vomits if anything other than a breast goes anywhere near her mouth!

Slickbird · 15/04/2009 17:06

Meep Yip, that's the only thing that keeps me going is knowing that it does get easier (and does go fast) but you're in it you think the bad bits will go on forever. But I think you nailed it by calling it Groundhog Day! If I wash one more bloomin' bottle...

Anyhoo, I've been snuffling for ages and wondered if it was hayfever too, but don't tend to get it til July, but have taken antihistimines and it's helped. But am not BFing anymore so don't know about that.

I can't wait for the kids to go back to school next week. DD1 driving me mad. But am soooo lucky as my neighbour takes her to school as I really don't think I could get 8 year old, 19month old and 5 week old out the door in time. We would, as Wheely said, all have to sleep in our clothes! I'm just hoping I can get the wee ones ready in time for pick up at 3.15pm. I'm not joking either...

laumiere · 15/04/2009 17:12

Aw, thanks all! DS1 has Easter egg chocolate as a reward.

meep take paracetomol for the general cold symptoms and Boots do a glycerine/lemon cough syrup with no drugs in which is nice for sore throats. Lemsip has phenoephidrine (I think) in it which is not advised when BF.

lizziemun · 15/04/2009 21:01

Yes, deffinately hayfever season for me as i am allergic to all pollen from tree to fungi. So in effect from march to oct. Oh i'm also allergic to antihistimines so i realy should buy she in kleenex the amount of tissues i go through.

So far we have been lucky ds wakes about 11pm and then about 3am then sleeps untill 6.30am which suits me as i need for him to be fed and dressed by 7 - 7.30am so i can then get dd's fed and ready for school by 8.30am to leave at 8.40am.

Morning all!

Blimey, doesn't it feel like you're in a whirlwind.

Amy is 12 days old today. Dh went back to work for a morning yesterday, and is out all day today. I had a bit of a cry, but I suppose that's normal!

Am vvv jealous of anyone with a set pattern to the day. Yesterday she did nothing but feed from 9am to about 7pm. I thought my boobs were going to fall off! And of course it meant constant nappy filling....

No pattern to sleeping - she doesn't really during the day and seems to only have little bits at night. Problem is she will only sleep on me and hates her moses basket which I've seen is a common problem here.

Hey ho.

Is it wrong to feel a tiny bit jealous of dh who can just go out for the day?

Will try to post a pic of Amy shortly...

Btw - she initially lost 5oz, but then put on 7 in 4 days!!!!! No wonder my weight is falling off...

grinningbee · 16/04/2009 09:00

Piccies now on profile

lelait · 16/04/2009 11:39

Hi all,
can I join too please? I had a little peak when you were all still antenatal but didn't get round to doing anything more...but now it would be great to have somewhere to have a moan!
My little Samuel was born on the 8th - so is nearly six weeks already - cant believe its gone so fast. Am definitely more chilled than I was when his sister was born but maybe missing the excitement of the 1st time too - the tiredness seems to be getting to me more this time round...or maybe my selective memory is working quite well!

Cheekycel · 16/04/2009 12:02

hi, sorry to hijack this thread
This message is actually for boobz, i was wondering if the Streatham Mums still have a regular meetup? I was invited to one in January but couldnt make it. I'll be going on Mat leave in May and it would be nice to meet some mums in the area.
Thanks

meep · 16/04/2009 12:29

hello to Amy - she's got lots of lovely hair grinning!

Of course you can join lelait - welcome!

fearless what is the age gap between your two? I haven't bravedthe double bath yet. Dd1 at 21mo still won't relinquish her bath support ring - but we've got one of those little lie back seats for Rosie - so it might work.............

Have had quite an unsettled night here - but hopefully I've got 15 mins now to have a shower - fingers crossed!
