Happy Birthday to any little ones and to Fennel Well Tiny Tots was okay. I was a bit nervous at first as 3 mums were talking away and didn't say hello to me. But 2 other mums were very friendly. Ds was a bit whingey (he's asleep in his cot now) and din't crawl off like he does at nursery. Most of the other children there were toddlers and girls!! I feel very proud of myself and will keep going. Dh sent me a lovely email from work saying good luck, and that he knew I was only really going for ds and that he loved me for that (sorry to be soppy)

TracyK · 19/04/2005 15:31

I took ds to a similar thing which is on a tues morning. The mums were v. friendly and I'm sorry that I can't go every tues as they all organise things together.
But I was a bit unsure of what to do with ds. Should I let him go and play on his own - or follow him round and play with the toys with him. I didn't want to cramp his style - but didn't want to appear coldhearted iykwim. He was the youngest which didn't help as I don't think the older ones really wanted to play with him.

happy birthday Fennel
ooo I had better keep my head v down re smacking hands , reserve it for dangerous things ie plug sockets , ours 'course R covered , not everyones R though. He just looks at me as if 2 say you and whos army , Seems I used to go 2 my mum and smack myself and say ' there ' and walk off says she never found what I had done , so I do not hold out much hope realy.

sos can not remebr who was @ c/parcs the other wk , we r going n/week . do u have to take looroll and w up liquid etc ?

LucyJones · 19/04/2005 15:38

That was my dilemma TracyK - I wanted to sit down and let him crawl about but he was too whingy for that. At one point a 2 year old girl tried to put him in a tunnel by pulling his hair - lol. I guess the more i take him the more we'll both get used to it. Also I was quite surprised that some of the mums with 2 year olds didn't have babies with them or were pregnant. Perhaps people prefer wider gaps these days?

TracyK · 19/04/2005 15:42

poor ds LJ - getting beaten up by a girl - same as my ds - he's got a lovely scar on his forehead from a girl's nail!
Quick question - ds has just gone for his (first and only) nap at 3.15pm - up since 6.30am. Should I wake him in an hour, 2 hours (his normal nap length) or leave him to see when he wakes naturally??

dolbear · 19/04/2005 16:03

mmm , i always wait for natuarl waking , every quiet moment is sooo welcome , besides he is soooo grumpy and bad tempered is just not worth the effort

hewlettsdaughter · 19/04/2005 19:30

It was me that went to Centerparcs dolbear. They provide a sachet of washing liquid and some loo roll but we bought more from the Parcmarket while we were there. We were at Longleat - which one are you going to?

Well done Lucy on braving the group - and happy birthday dolbear's ds and Fennel. It was my dd's birthday yesterday (thanks for the mention, Chuffed!). DH, DS, DD and I had a birthday tea together yesterday afternoon, then DH and I shared some cava once the kids were in bed

hewlettsdaughter · 19/04/2005 19:58

YG - how are you?

Booklover · 19/04/2005 20:18

Hello April 2004 mums, I have only recently discovered mumsnet and never posted a message on this particular thread, but wanted to say Happy Birtday too, my ds turned one on 12 April, what an exciting year it has been (for all of us I am sure). Just wondered if your babies are going to have the MMR vaccination soon as I made an appointment today and if you are going ahead with it? Would like to hear your thoughts....

LucyJones · 19/04/2005 20:21

Hi booklover. ds is having his vaccine a week on Tuesday. We decided that the risks of him getting measles etc were greater than the risks of the jab especially after all the new research in our opinion

hewlettsdaughter · 19/04/2005 20:34

Hi Booklover, dd will have the MMR when she's called for it, but as she's still not had her '6-9' month check (the hvs are behind), I don't think it's imminent (or maybe they'll decide to do both together now?)

TracyK · 19/04/2005 21:09

ds is 13mo - am going to decide whether to give mmr nearer the 18mo mark.

handlemecarefully · 19/04/2005 21:24

Hello Booklover.

Yes - having the MMR. Tend to go with the party line that there is no proven link between MMR and autism.

Happy Birthday Fennel and Dolbear's lo and Hd's lo too!

dolbear · 20/04/2005 08:48

thanks HLD we r also going to Longleat v excited 1st hols with the BB do ot want 2 go overboard with the packing
hello booklover - also gong 4 MMR albeit a bit reluctantly but still going for the 18mth mark also , i am bit sus that they r bring some forward in order 2 hit their % targets , but then i am paranoid !
thanx for b-day wishes all went well
YG get no idea whats going on , no news there then , but thoughts and hugs over 2 U

dot1 · 20/04/2005 09:37

thankfully we haven't had the MMR appointment yet - the older the better as far as I'm concerned as I want ds's eczema to settle down before he has it. Silly I know, as the two probably don't impact on each other at all, but I want him to be 100% well on the day!

Fennel · 20/04/2005 09:57

hi Booklover welcome to the thread

yorkiegirl if you're there I hope you're ok

dd3 will have the MMR but like HD's dd hasn't had an 8 month check yet. dd2 (age 3) is going for her MMR booster today though, spurred on by an outbreak of mumps among local students. all the students are queueing up for it now.

Fennel · 20/04/2005 10:01

ps KristinaM you should check out the "breastfeeding for 13 years thread" that could be you in a few years...

lunavix · 20/04/2005 10:06

Morning ladies.

I've been pondering over the MMR, but we're having trouble finding a reputable clinic nearby for single vaccinations so I think we will go ahead with the MMR. I'm going to insisit he's closer to 2 though.

Third tooth was through yesterday (although he never lets me near his mouth so i didn't notice ) and bizarrely it's a top canine. Even though he has the bottom two front ones. He has the other canine coming through too - he's going to look bizarre!

LucyJones · 20/04/2005 10:08

Is it better if they are a bit older then?

lunavix · 20/04/2005 10:09

Don't know but IMHO it's a lot of drugs in one vaccination for someone so small. I don't have any medical reference in that, but I've seen how poorly friends children have become, and I really would rather he was bigger and tougher.

handlemecarefully · 20/04/2005 10:10

LucyJones,

No not really. It doesn't make any difference.

handlemecarefully · 20/04/2005 10:11

I think Dot is delaying more for the eczema reason than anything else.

MrsDoolittle · 20/04/2005 10:11

Hi Ladies, I have just had a wee skim around the site to see what going 'daaaaan'. I haven't been on for ages so I feel a little as if I have lost touch.

Yorkiegirl, I have just seen your thread - I'm so sorry. Men are such prats sometimes!

Hi Hd - sound like you have had a great time away. I would like to catch up, hopefully we will soon.

Hi Booklover

I think dd is hitting toddlerdom with a vengeance - only shes not toddling yet but we have all the testing behaviour, tantrums. Dm and Dh keep saying if she is anything like me, we are going to have some battles!

And another thing, dd used to love being swung (?) up into the air. It would make her laugh and giggle but suddenly she doesn't like it. I mean she seems really scared, why do you think this is? Do you think she has suddenly became aware of space or something?

TracyK · 20/04/2005 10:29

I'm with you Luvanix - wait till they're a bit tougher and older before MMR. I also have no medical evidence to support this - just a gut feel.

Chuffed · 20/04/2005 11:13

welcome booklover.

We're doing singles here but am just trying to find out what the deal is in NZ if we don't get them all done before we move back before we schedule them. I'm lucky in that there are a couple of good clinics on Harley St which is only a 30min walk from home and they all do Saturday clinics so no time off work for it.
