A little sister for DS and a lovely straightforward birth, just a 2nd degree tear but so much easier than last time when i had a third degree tear. Relieved its over now

stripeywoollenhat · 25/01/2009 11:10

hello everybody - dp finally sorted out wireless (after a week of struggling to find time to brush teeth) so laptop on couch with catherine - or, to give her her official title, my new boss - stretched out asleep on my lap (typing one fingered with the wrong hand), and here i am on the graduate thread! i'm somebody's mum!

have spent the last week struggling to establish breast feeding - had a lactation consultant (!) round yesterday and we worked out that i am being insufficiently firm with my little wriggler... still haven't resolved her dislike of my right nipple, she'll only countenance it if i'm wearing a nipple shield. perhaps it's the piercing hole...

but enough about me, eh? how is everyone? must catch up

welcome tree ray and nellybell - lovely to see you over here!!

hey stripey, our dc's have been talking to eachother - dd has an aversion to my right nipple and will only take it with a shield too. I try to slip it off halfway through a feed, when she is less frantic to get milk and that sometimes works. babies are so odd

flf at Oxford St. especially if you can't feel your pelvic floor I can feel mine, thankfully, though I am totally forgetting to do my kegels. mw suggested I do a few when breastfeeding. Sadly I go dopey when bfing and forget all about it.. but then I am not planning to have sex for a long time, and am not weeing myself when I sneeze, so there is no pressing need to get it back into shape

Can someone reassure me that it is ok for me to still be in pyjamas at 3pm (oh ok, all day), and to have only left the house for a stroll around the block a handful of times?? dd is 2 weeks old already and I'm beginning to feel guilty that I'm not doing more. But I actually feel worse now than I did straight after the birth - got some blocked milk ducts so boobs are tender, piles! suddenly appeared out of nowhere, stitches are pulling, and I am knackered. Leaving the house seems like far too much hard work.
AND I have no clothes that fit, on top of which everything I am wearing is covered in baby posset. not very glam.

fourlittlefeet · 25/01/2009 15:46

welcome nellybell

thats why I have to go to oxford street; clothes. have had enough of them all and want something else to wear!

MsSparkle · 25/01/2009 16:47

hkz i so know what you mean about not being used to a ds and getting sprayed!

Finley has been feeding more often but still only takes 2-3oz. Midwife didn't seem concerned about it and said he is probably just taking what he needs and no more. I was discharged today and so the health visitor is coming tomorrow. She is a bit of a troll tbh and really scary looking but we will see.

I'm popping in to say hi too; the old thread was getting a bit lonely!

Pizza-making sounds like fun dog; I am making yummy spag bol. My brother just came round and said 'aren't pregnant women supposed to spend the last month in bed?'... funny.

Had my first sweep today (am now 1 week overdue), and MW said I was 2cm dilated but cervix still 'thick' - so moving in the right direction I suppose. Have had backache and some periody cramp since so fingers crossed. My friend who thinks of herself as a bit of a psychic says she 'knows' it will happen tomorrow, so we shall see... !

Hope all you new mummies are getting some sleep in between getting to know your new babies!

xxx

treedelivery · 25/01/2009 19:48

hi all just popping in from breastfeeding duties to say have posted a tiny update but anticipate beibg bacvk in land of semi living tomorrow as milk coming in woo hoo!!

treedelivery · 25/01/2009 19:58

oh and dd2 refuses to be put down. Minor breakthrough today - 1 hr in swing.

I've got a tricky one folks!!

LenniEd · 25/01/2009 20:01

Lovely to have you on here MissJackson and Dog it's lonely on here sometimes too!

It will get better quickly - one big feed once your milk is in and DD will be wiped out!

FLF - If I didn't totally understand what you mean about clothes I would think you were a mad woman! But as it is Oxford St sounds like a grand idea! I'm fed up of being in the void between maternity and non-maternity. Literally nothing fits. Doesn't help that I'm eating like an absolute horse.

Speaking of which I made the fatal error of trying on my pre-pg jeans this morning one pair fitted ok, one pair had a bit of an overhang and the others were a couple of inches off being done up. It's bum and thighs that are the issue more than jelly belly, which I found more disturbing for some reason.

Think we've hit growth spurt number 2 here. DS is 3 weeks on Wednesday and has fed every 30mins-1hour throughout the day today - well I say today, actually it's been going on since midnight last night, but nights and days are the same thing aren't they? I should count my lucky stars though as apart from those couple of nights last week when he fed hourly he has gone to 3 hourly feeds the rest of the time and the other night he slept 9pm - 1am which was lovely. (Won't mention the 3am and 5am feeds - makes me feel better if I don't )

Hope the HV goes well MsSparkle and glad DS is ok - we've got first visit from HV tomorrow too, am hoping DS has gained weight.

LenniEd · 25/01/2009 20:05

Tree have you tried the hot water bottle in her bed trick? It convinces DS that he's still being held by me when I put him down. (Also I have expressed a bit of milk onto his sheet - the things you do eh!!)

Stripey I also used to have a pierced nipple a relic from my wild youth! The piercing hole is still kind of there but sealed obviously (took it out about 7 years ago now) and DS took a while to get to like that nipple. It is also a bit larger than my other nipple so when he was newborn it was hard to get him latched on right on that side.

fourlittlefeet · 25/01/2009 20:09

hello dog and mj, good to see you

tree! hello . we finally made it! woohoo! DD was an absolute mare until my milk came in. had me in tears of exhaustion every day, then became an absolute dote, so don't give up yet!

I must say H is a wonder, he does need feeding every two hours, but apart from that he is happy to be put down anywhere and doesn't bat an eyelid at DD's everloving attentions. I think I've heard him cry 5 times in 8 days, largely when we try and clena the cord. touch wood this lasts! I think its because I had loads of collustrum and my milk came in day two (have only not been breastfeeding for 5 months so it was all ready to go and nipples were still pretty toughened)... so at least the extended feeding paid off somewhere

LooseyC · 25/01/2009 20:53

Hello - thanks for the invite to come over and join you ladies!

I'm now 3 days overdue and your posts are making me jealous even though I know have all this feeding malarky to come - hope I can join in properly soon!

Anyway, I have a midwife app tomorrow for a stretch and sweep (lovely) so who knows? Fingers crossed as last time I had one I was in labour within 30mins - so I've asked her to come to the house just in case. Think this may just be wishful thinking though as I've not had a single twinge or anything so far...

chefswife · 26/01/2009 05:09

wohoo. i've finally come over. feeding DD at moment but after six weeks i've managed to get a bit organized about things. before i sit down to feed her i make sure i have water, laptop, remote, lip balm and phone. my whole day is schedule for tasks that need to be done later. it is getting easier.

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 26/01/2009 07:20

morning all - just popped over to see how you were all doing.... I'm sure us last few of us will be over soon!

heron22 · 26/01/2009 09:32

hi all, absolutely shattered this morning. DS keeps falling asleep at the breast. so he ended up feeding just 10 or so mins and of course he is awake again an hour later.

HELP!

missjackson · 26/01/2009 09:38

Hope your sweep goes well today LooseyC.

It's funny reading posts about breastfeeding etc - I have all that fun to look forward to! In the meantime, can't believe I have once again woken up with a big bump and no baby - really thought & hoped that my sweep yesterday would have speedy results. MW was very gentle though!

Another sweep tomorrow if nothing happens tonight... I only have this week left in which to labour naturally, otherwise they won't let me birth at the lovely local MLU and I will have to go to South Wales busiest hospital! I've tried explaining this to the baby...

fourlittlefeet · 26/01/2009 09:40

Heron, they can get all they need in 10 mins if you have lots of milk. His tummy is only tiny, and especially with boys who are more likely to suffer reflux (puking, or posseting as it is delicately called!), its actually not a bad thing that he is having frequent small feeds (as long as his poo isn't green - that can be too much foremilk, but thats another story ). If you want him to be more awake, you can undress him a bit before you feed. Also make sure you are comfy and settled with a book or something and just let him get on with it. When he stops sucking properly you can do a little massage on his face, just in front of his ear. That sometimes gets them sucking again.

Good luck x

fourlittlefeet · 26/01/2009 09:40

gosh, get me . quite the second time mum! Loving the sunshine this morning.

LenniEd · 26/01/2009 10:13

Still loads of time yet MissJackson - you'll have to get the mw to be less delicate tomorrow

Hope your sweep goes well Loosey

FLF - DS did a green poo the other night, wondered what it was. Was going to ask HV today - tell me more... can they be caused by anything else?

DS has caught the cold we've all had over the weekend - he's really horribly snuffly. DD was at least 2mo by the time she got her first cold and she was ff. Horrid seeing him all congested

rrrayray · 26/01/2009 10:40

morning all.

skim read, but glad to know my eating machine should calm down when milk in... which feels lik coming today.

tree, dd is also v. clingy.

ohhh, hot water bottle and milk squeezing. brill idea.

love to you all.... this 1 handed thing bit tricky. will post birth story tomo. xx

missjackson · 26/01/2009 12:23

Stupid question alert - do newborn babies mind being strapped into a car seat and driven home four or five hours after their birth? If they've been snuggling skin-to-skin with you ever since being born, don't they make an almighty fuss? And if so, what do you do? Our car journey home is at least 20 minutes.

See, this is what happens when you have too much time and everything organised - I am worrying about the smallest things!
