books i swaddled her for the first time the night before last and she only woke twice (1.30, 5.15) and yesterday i felt WORSE for it, but second night on the trott of sleep seems to have re-fueld the tanks and feeling GREAT for it. Although a bit worried that going to get used to it & then she'll do the growth spurt & we'll be back to 1 hour slots again!!

Think i may too have trush? VERY itchy down there, not stithes as MW checked them and actually totally healed and gone already. Never had thrush before? Do i need to treat it, or will it just sort itself?

Taking DD off to Bluewater for first proper full day out (done walks, NCT coffee mornings, and an evening OH football match to date) tomorrow as OH has day off and is taking us to bluewater as has a present lined up for me?! Hmmmm..... Interested, and excited! think planning to spoil his girls. Too right - i've been doing night shifts totally solo (ok, so he doesn't have boobs, but some company/moral support in the early hours wouldn't go a miss!) as he has 2 matches a week at the moment, so has been sleeping in the spare room to ensure is on top of game!

Anyone else's bubbas sometimes sucking so hard and fast you can hear them sort of Gagging on your boob? Bless her, she gets so excited she drinks so hard and fast that she ends up coughing and spluttering and i have to prize her off (much to her dismay) to calm down! What a pickle!

PatTheHammer · 03/02/2009 13:36

Hi Books, My DD is a big fan of Handy Manny (hence the nickname) and talks all the time about it to Ds, even when he is trying to sleep. I guess this is her form of bonding with a baby who is a little disappointing in that he only eats, sleeps and poos at the moment. She is v. cute with him though, stroking him when he cries saying 'don't worry darling' and 'give him some booby mummy' and v.helpful with nappy changes. i do know what you mean about mouthy kisses though and I'm sure she tried to pick him up the other day, I gave her Baby Annabel instead whom she promptly started breast-feeding
I do feel a bit guilty on those growth-spurty days though, when he does seem to feed non-stop. Still she has pre-school in the mornings and I do have a special box of toys/puzzles etc (xmas was great, we put loads of stuff by that she hadn't had a chance to play with). I do feel like I should take her out a bit more but do not quite feel brave enough for extended trips and like a few others on here, most days its a struggle to get everyone washed and dressed before noon.
LenniEd, Love the name Dylan, we went with Zachary in the end, although wasn't expecting a boy so that was a real surprise!

Ray, I know what you mean about the sleep thing, we have had a few nights where he has only woken once about 4am and then at 7am. Trouble is when you get a good run it then knackers you out when they are all over the place again and wake every hour. How the hell do some people get their babies in a routine this early, seems impossible when they are so unpredictable. I'm sure my DD didn't have regular sleeps for a few months and didn't do her first 8 hour stretch until 9 or 10 weeks.

Hi Fym, I had 3 Sweeps with DS (2 unsucessful) and he was 10 days overdue, felt he was never going to come and I would be pregnant forever! The one that did work was at 11am (I was 2cm), established labour at 10pm and he was out at 11.56pm. I just kept very active after the sweep, no sex though, DH horrified at the amount of show I was producing

qumps · 03/02/2009 14:16

quick check in. day and night from hell with both. in short ds2 awake most of night other than when asleep on my chest, ds1 having epi tantrums and hates mummy and shouts granny grandad play (don't blame him as i am a miserable cow). ceiling also collapsed in a flat we own so now have to go to chelt at weekned to sort and dh abroad next week.
calvary arried in the shape of grandparents so off to bed.

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 03/02/2009 14:17

Ah well - I'm having a sweep tomorrow at 3pm so wish me luck!

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 03/02/2009 15:15

I didn't know whether to post this or not but thinking of Rray getting her baby gift....

If any of you have been promised a jewellery gift I am actually a diamond, precious stone and jewellery retailer.... I mention it not to sell you stuff (although it would be nice ) but I can give loads of advice on where and what to buy in the way of eternity and engagement rings...I see so many people getting ripped off with diamonds bought in high street stores it is unbelievable. Anyway I'm here to help if you need it - yippee1973 at gmail.com

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 03/02/2009 15:16

qumps what can I say.... [passes gin, tonic and chocolates]

moosemama · 03/02/2009 15:34

Cogratulations Elkie, 10 lb, well done!!

DD is on a growth spurt at the moment, feeding every 1 and a half to 2 hours day and night. Am totally exhausted. The boys never did this they just went straight onto 3 hourly feeds and stuck there whilst steadily gaining weight. Just when I thought I was starting to get some order back in my life as well. Now the house is a mess, I haven't done the breakfast dishes, washing is piling up and I barely have time to eat let alone cook anything for anyone else.

Schools closed here today, but was so tired with a killer headache this morning I had to call on Mum to come and get the boys. Am disappointed as I feel like I never get any time with them anymore and DS1 keeps saying that something really sad is upsetting him but wont say what it is. (Lots of tears at bedtime last night, but could't get to the bottom of what was wrong.) He has said its nothing to do with Elizabeth or me though. It could be something as simple as he's fallen out with his best friend at school, but I won't stop worrying till we sort it out.

Spink · 03/02/2009 15:37

elkie - congratulations! fym and dog - ok. any day now! you are SOOOO close.

I'm sorry I'm not catching up with everyone properly. We've had a horrible time the last few days. Rosie suddenly went off her feeds on Sunday night, and was really hot. Took her to A&E in the small hours of Monday morning, thinking that we were probably being overcautious and that they'd tell us she was fine and to go home. But her temp was scary high, 39.4 which for such a tiny lady is bad. She's been admitted and they're trying to work out what is going on. No idea so far.. Her temp has stayed high and she's not feeding so she's being fed EMB through a nose tube.. I feel small and helpless, and a bit scared too. Hopefully she'll pick up - they reckon that things change quickly with babies, so it might go as quickly as it came. with any luck.
anyway. send her some get better quick vibes, ladies!!

moosemama · 03/02/2009 15:45

Oh Spink! You poor thing you must be beside yourself. Am sending lots of love, light and healing vibes to your little one! Hope she is better really soon.

missjackson · 03/02/2009 16:42

Oh Spink how awful of you, am thinking of you and sending tons of hugs xxxxx

ElkiE congratulations! 10lbs! Can't wait to hear birth story (which reminds me I must do mine before I forget the horror completely!). Gosh, I can't believe that a week ago I was experiencing my first contractions.... and now he is 5 days old! Still no name yet.... I told you....

I love lying in bed nursing and watching the snow come down on the hills across the valley - it's like the Alps here in the Brecon Beacons!

Matey seems to be quite happy to feed very slowly for 2 or 3 hours at a time! Is this normal? I prise him off occasionally and see if he feels like sleeping, but he just starts rooting again. Had 2 good 3 hour sleep sessions last night though, we all slept from 2am-5am, and then 6am till 9am. Still co-sleeping though.... might try to set up the cot next to my bed so it's like a proper co-sleeper as I am still worried about the duvet thing - I am fine with duvet around my waist, but OH keeps pulling it up in his sleep and freaking me out.

Sorry for long post. Good luck to FYM and Dog, it's gonna happen!!!!

stripeywoollenhat · 03/02/2009 17:21

Spink - horrible for you, i really hope rosie gets better soon.

Elkie - congratulations and welcome to conor!

dd failed to go back to sleep this morning after her morning feed so after three hours of wakefulness had a complete meltdown and cried for two hours continuously, poor little thing was so tired she couldn't remember how to latch so couldn't feed her to sleep, just had to wait it out. hard on the nerves, that. any advice on how to get a wakeful baby to sleep before she is too tired to cope gratefully received...

LenniEd · 03/02/2009 18:10

Spink - am thinking of you all, what a terrible time. Really hope she is better soon, they bounce back quickly as you know, the only good aspect of kids being ill. Poor little girl and poor you too.

MissJackson - two single duvets on your bed would solve the problem. Go continental for a while! DS feeds for hours at a time sometimes, think it is prob to up supply, he's grazing more than feeding but I don't mind either way.

Elkie - congratulations hope it all went well.

Dog - remedy posted today, not sure if I made post or not so should be there tomorrow or weds, am interested to see if it works. What are your concerns about hb? Is it nerves or something else?

Am of sleep rrrayray - sounds fab!

fourlittlefeet · 03/02/2009 18:54

spink hope Rosie recovers really quickly

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 03/02/2009 19:12

spink - it's horrible when they're ill, I hope she gets better soon

Elkie - you win the prize for the biggest baby... congratulations!

rrrayray · 03/02/2009 19:55

Spink- so sorry to hear about illness. Can't even imagine how worried you are! Hope everything better soon! xxxxxxx

fourlittlefeet · 03/02/2009 20:30

I've updated my photos... can't believe how quickly they fill out!

LenniEd · 03/02/2009 20:53

Awww, bless him FLF! He looks loads older than he is... so alert!

Talking of filling out DS has gained 1lb 2oz in the last 7 days HV weighed him again cos thought she'd got it wrong! No wonder I was doing 30min feeds every hour last week! That was one hell of a growth spurt! So he's now 10lb 5oz at 4wks old, from 7lb 14oz at birth. Looking at the size of DS now I can't believe my friend had an 11lb 4oz baby before xmas - ouch!

MissHairspray · 03/02/2009 22:01

Oh that must be so hard for you spink hope things are better soon.

Thanks for the advice and sympathy ladies, had a bit of a turning point yesterday I think and just decided if I want to bf I have to go for it properly. No formula now for over 24 hours and managed to feed in bed lying down which made it a bit cosier. Nipps are still sore but knowing this is normal and I just have to push through it makes it easier. Def agree that rest is the most important thing, a long nap in the afternoon makes everything a hell of a lot easier.

Good luck dog and fym you will have your babies soon regardless of how they decide to come out.

LooseyC · 03/02/2009 22:05

Hello - I'm one of the not-catching-up-properly posters... I wish I had a laptop.

Congrats Elkie, and good luck for tomorrow FYM - S&S have set me off on the way good and proper twice in a row now! Spink - hope things are better soon.

MissH I am totally with you, DS was awake ALL night feeding, no breaks, for the first 2 nights and only slightly better now. Sadly I am having the same supply issues as last time round and have to top up as the little one has lost loads of weight (DS1 lost 20% quickly so I was in a panic it was going to be that bad again). Lots of MW weigh-ins this week and he is slowly gaining again thank goodness. However, he is going to be a formula baby really from now on. Oh well.

Anyway, must go and do another feed now, catch up again soon I hope!

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 04/02/2009 03:57

looks like no need for the S&S, have the tens machine on and things look like they're on their way (ouch!)

Going back to bed now with paracetamol to see if I can sleep a bit.

chefswife · 04/02/2009 06:42

i've decided our routine is to not have a routine... well, more excepting that it changes a lot. i try to do some things the same everyday: going out of the house for a couple of hours, usually a walk; afternoon sleep in crib, at least one and a half hours; bath time and DD i crawl into bed for night feed and sleep; classical music in morning. DD seems to be way more alert/awake now at 8 weeks. she grabs a little, holds her head up and tummy time is going well. she still gets gas and it brings a smile to my face when she farts; they are so cute... only a mother would think that. yesterday though i was pooed on while changing her... it was explosive, and when i picked her up to remove the towel, she peed on me. all i could do was laugh.

i recall someone asking about itching (i'm so itchy but no rash or flaking) and someone suggested what it might be. i haven't changed my soap or laundry detergent and keep my shower temp warm. any suggestions?

ray reading your posts reminds me of my first weeks... even the weight gain. DD has good nights sleeping and great nights. we sometimes do a night feed but mostly she sleeps from midnight to about 6am. its amazing.

LenniEd · 04/02/2009 09:59

Good luck fym! Hope you've had a baby by now How exciting!

tinkisluvingbeingamummyagain · 04/02/2009 10:08

morning

dd2 slept much better last night fed her @ 11:20pm woke @ 3:30am and 6am for a feed she is having 2.5ozs every fed

rray - for thrush you can use cream and oral tablets best to see doctors with breat feeding etc as dont know if tablet affects it.

spink - hope that rosie gets better soon

fym - good luck
