Hope this works

thought i would start a thread for those of us already in the heady World of motherhood, so we can share the trials and tribulations of the early days....

I shall start with my birth story and hope other's follow and I haven't started a dud thread

As you know I was dreading a 3rd CS, almost to the point where I was having panic attacks - we went in on the Thursday and after waiting for an EMC we were taken to theatre where I was DELIGHTED to recognise the aneathatist (sp!!) who helped deliver DS2. Now, one of my major fears about a 3rd CS was the fact that having had a "perfect" excperience with DS2, it6 wouldn't be possible to experience the same thing again...I was wroing, it was better The whole thing was started at 1315 and Tallulah was born at 1344 weighing 7lbs 2oz. She has a shock of dark hair but seems so small compared to the boys who were 9 and 10lbs respectively. The care I recieved was absolutely 2nd to none - no complaints or gripes.........So far so good.........

HOWEVER.........my god, do you forget the pain of breastfeeding before the milk comes in - I am in absolute agony and have had to top up with aptamil as the poor wee thing is so, so hungry...I am literally BF for up to 2 hours (the point of pain in both udders ) and then topping up with Aptamil. She guzzles 30ml and then settles.......As for sleep - sleep is for wimps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love to Buzz, with UTI.
And poor MerryM with her itchy rash. Oh my heart goes out to you.

Heartmum, any news on moob ?

And you all say that the babies are shedding their skin ? neither ds1 or ds2 did that. Funny that. I did spot a bit of craddle cap though. But I blew it and it all fell out.

Heartmum2Jamie · 20/11/2008 12:31

Rosa & Misdee, your little ladies are gorgeous!

Sorry to hear about your UTI Ladybuzz. I hope you feel better soon.

Yay for being given the ok to drive Obs, but sorry you had another long night.

As for Zack's moob, it is most likely hormonal, just need to watch for infection, although the risk of it is very small. HV said to make sure they check it out at his 6 week check, but he is being seen at the gp's before that, on the 4th december, so will get them to check then if it hasn't gone down.

Poor little chap is restless this morning. He is currently asleep on me, but won't tolerate being put down. I got him into the wrap this morning, using the moby hug hold, but the material is more like an ellaroo, no stretch. For the life of me, I can't work out how to breastfeed in it as he doesn't really like the cradle hold (hence why he screams in the pouch sling.) It was very comfy though and allowed me to fold some washing in relative peace.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 12:41

Roca your DCs are beautiful; lovely photos.

misdee your older girls all look pleased as punch with DD4

another shite night here, Fin fed every hour and a half, bad latch and my boobs are sooooooooo sore . He has been a bit colicky this morning, but has had a good feed (rugby ball hold, better latch and no pain ). He is now sleeping like a log. i'm off for a nap as well as DH has taken DD out for the day.

LadyBuzz, hope you are feeling better

Obs, sorry for the bad night there as well. I'm beginning to wonder why I bothered with a crib!

right....off for some much needed ZZZZzzzzzzzzs

vbab78 · 20/11/2008 13:43

ADVICE PLEASE - Considering buying a sling ... because DS is constantly hounding me to be with him (like before Alyssa) but throws a massive wobbly and gets "crying" upset (not normal) when i cant do what he is asking or i guess he feels rejected. Also "her ladyship" today for some reason wont let me put her down which is something i always try to do. Thought about the sling so I could have Alyssa with me, do what i need to and play with ds. Although not sure if he could maybe resent her being on me and i dont particularly want her attached to me all the time (dont want her to get clingy later), just for when she wont be put down.

Any advice ladies if generally a good idea and in relation to DS. If a good idea then what was the recommended sling after the massive debate you had?

Heartmum2Jamie · 20/11/2008 14:14

Vbab, I think it could be a good idea, especially for when out and about (the main reason I have one as ds2 still uses the pushchair, more so in the winter as he struggles in the cold - he has a heart condition). I know that there are websites where you can rent slings like this one. Perhaps that would be an idea while you see if it works for your family/situation? As for kind of slings. I have a wrap sling, which I like as I can use different tie methods for different ages/stages. I suppose the choices are between wrap slings, ring slings, pouches and carriers. For the life of me, I can't remember who the sling "expert" was or which was the best sling. I would be interested to know as well.

cricri · 20/11/2008 14:30

Hello everybody,
Sorry, not had chance to post in recent days although I have been trying to keep up by reading.
First of all congratulations to Monkey and welcome to Cecily Plum Come and join us over here on the dark side when you get a chance.
Sorry so many of us are struggling at the moment with colic, bad nights etc
Ladybuzz Feel for you with the UTI. I had cystitis on Monday and it was horrible. Fortunately it only lasted a few hours. Hope you feel better soon.
Choc Hope you're feeling better today - it is so hard isn't it? A complete shock to the system as a first-timer. Thank goodness for MN is all I can say and the support from everybody on this thread.
Lacks and Vbab You celebrities you! Looking forward to reading and watching your stories
Vbab I think Hanaflower is our sling guru - perhaps post your query on the AN thread?
Skin shedding - Elise has dry skin on her hands, legs, feet and tummy. I mentioned it to the HV yesterday and she suggested massaging olive oil into the dry areas which I did last night. Seems to have helped a little bit. I wondered if it was also part of the natural process of skin renewing itself?
Question about nappy rash - are any other babies suffering from this? I'm trying to keep her clean and dry, using water to wash her nappy area and a barrier cream but it doesn't seem to be making much difference atm. Seems to have got slightly worse if anything. How long does it take to clear up usually? Fortunately she doesn't seem to be bothered by it.
Bf going better - managed a whole day yesterday of bf only with just 1oz of formula as a top-up This morning one boob was actually leaking as Elise was feeding from the other one so I definitely have more milk!

misdee · 20/11/2008 15:39

good day not stayed.

just dh on the phone having a go cos i forgot the older two girls were at afterschool clubs today and he 'wasted' 15mins waiting for them.

i am sick to death of the way he speaks to me. how can he reduce me to tears so easily?

vbab78 · 20/11/2008 17:44

misdee know what you mean about DH. He can make me upset even on a good day. But at the moment when I havent even had chance to recover from the birth a week ago due to just getting on with looking after Alyssa including ALL the night feeds, DS whom I dont recognise the majority of the time at the moment, all house work and just gradually feeling more depressed he seems to try to upset me more. This morning after I poured my heart out to him about being exhausted he said "right Im going back to bed for an hour i'm knackered" . What the f*k! I thought you selfish, loveless and nasty b*ard. Alyssa was asleep but I was left feeling the way I was to look after DS (nightmare for no reason to angel at mo) and going off to the kitchen to cry my eyes out. Keep in mind DH had been on the PS3 until 1am!!! But at least he did Alyssa's feed then, after I had got up to do it, because he was still up. I even left him in bed yesterday morning after I had been up with Alyssa and DS.

vbab78 · 20/11/2008 17:44

just realised i cant spell swear words but I guess you know what i mean!

when are we revealing our secret swtork stuff btw?

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 20:04

sorry about the DH issues misdee and vbab

Mine knows better than to mention how tired he is . Actually he is just as tired as me as he does the burping, changing and settling after I've done the feeding for the first half of the night so I can sleep; then I take over for the second half so he can sleep. He's also doing all the cooking and washing and the school run as well and tells me to sit down if I try and do anything!

I should rent him out

not that we haven't had our fair share of troubles, but we are getting on much better than ever at the minute!

Dozymare · 20/11/2008 20:19

Hi all - hope you are all good - I have horrendous flu, caught from DS1. Feel really, really crap but luickily DH is around this week. Quick question, can I or DS pass on the flu virus to Tiger, or will she be immune for a few weeks (something in the back of my mind tells me this is the case)

Just read yorky birth story - OMG you are amazing and welcome to Amy vcan't believe how quick it went!

ceebee just read your news as well, welcome to the World Samuel, hope you had a lovely experience.

Vbab how are things now with DH? Behaving a bit better I hope. What about DS??

Hi to everyone else

OP posts:
missygoo · 20/11/2008 20:25

I hear you with the no good DH's
Mine has his moments of wonder then his depths of selfishness.
Last night DS screamed (or groaned) for an hour and a half whilst DH slept DH woke and, after 5-10 mins was despairing of the noise
Then he took DS but stayed in the bed with him, now screaming (DS not DH) I said it might be a thought to remove him from me, and the room, for a bit so I could at least get 10-20 mins shut eye. DH moaned and grunted some himself then eventually swore at me for being selfish
Um what the.....?
Tonight we had an argument at the dinner table, over whether or not DH had cleaned it first (last thing on the table had been wood and kindling, the thing was awful!) Stupid levels of argument started, mainly brought on by DH. DD and I eventually left the table, and him (he just kept on eating, how can you eat whilst arguing?)
Anyway, now he has put DD to bed, has given DS his bath and is now giving him a wee cuddle whilst I MN.
They are so confusing??

missygoo · 20/11/2008 20:29

Oh vbab I bought the tricotti sling cos I think it will be the easiest to get baby into. I can see the point in the wrap style but just found it a total hassle to get on when DD was shouting, so much quicker just to pick her up.
I am hoping the tricotti will do the trick. Just got it today though so haven't tried it yet. I will report back, when I do. I am also hoping I can feed on the move, so will let you know how I get on with that too.

AutumnLady · 20/11/2008 20:33

Hi all
Thanks for all the lovely msgs and special thanks to Dozy, Obs, CriCri, Ladybuzz, Hana and Ceebee for the text support, really appreciate the contact as I am STILL without internet!! Should have a laptop in the next 2 wks so will be back posting properly then.

James is doing really well and is such a chilled out little man. Am incredibly tired but recovering well from the cs and you can hardly see the scar . I just can't believe how much I love him and he's only 17 days old. Can't wait until we get to do our London meet up with all the LO's in tow!
Just grabbing some dinner so will post again later.
Big hugs to everyone and welcome little Oct/Nov 08 babies!
Xx

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 20:35

Did I miss the name announcement for Yorky's DD?

Welcome Amy

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 20:47

vbab, I've got a Close Baby carrier which is a wrap sling. It is a bit of a faff to get him in it, but he is so snug and cosy against my chest. and i'm sure I'll get better with practice.

I've also got a baby buddha one (it came from America) that I need to download some instructions for!

Hey AutumnLady; good to hear from you. I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were doing. Sounds like things are going well

Yorky · 20/11/2008 20:59

Hello Dark side - here we are, Amy Lorraine has been sleeping like a baby all afternoon so I am expecting her to be feeding all night!
She is very sweet, and her head isn't as pointy now!
My friend came round and her son was saying baby, DS pointed to his chest and said Alan's baby!
I've got a close baby carrier too and can't wait to try her in it, hope she's not too big for the nursing position, it looks so lovely and snuggly!

misdee · 20/11/2008 21:04

is anyones elses bleeding very erractic? yesterday it seemed to have increased a lot, and sorry for TMI, i passed a couple of clots as well.

but today, barely a smidge.

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 21:23

misdee, could it be down to the BFing? I get more of a surge after a feed as the oxytocin makes your womb contract. Not had any clotty bits though. Mention it to your CMW or HV.

Welcome to the dark side Yorky, although during the day when DS is sleepy and cuddly and lovely it is all light and fluff. It's only in the wee small hours when he has been cluster feeding me raw and sore that it gets a bit dark.

I'm off to see the doctor tomorrow for a course of fluconazole. the thrush is definately in my ducts now and feeding still very painful. DS2's mouth is breaking out again as well and my nips are sore.

I'm bloody gutted about this as I had high hopes that it would all go swimmingly this time. I got thrush early on with DD and it took six months to finally be clear of it.

AutumnLady · 20/11/2008 21:28

Hi Lacks (or Leaky - love the name!), we are doing well and I'm so pleased as I have absolutely no experience of babies whatsoever! We went to baby clinic for the first time on tuesday and he now weighs 6lbs 13oz. He's a formula fed baby so am happy he is gaining normally. Have actually bought some Aptamil for hungry babies today as he seems to want a bit extra in some feeds. We always have a funny hour in the evenings where he just doesn't settle so I end up with him on my chest where he falls asleep. So nice to snuggle together even tho I know he needs to get used to falling asleep in his basket. He's a very cuddly baby and sometimes that's all he wants! He's not keen on nappy changes or having his clothes removed but I'm sure he'll get used to it eventually!
How are you getting on? I like the sound of that sling and am considering buying one - where did you get yours?
