Thought it was about time....

I would love another baby. However, the fact that it took three years to conceive number one and I'd rather sleep than shag means it's looking less than likely right now.

iwantasecondone · 04/09/2008 07:12

Am very at those whose babies aren't rolling much. We have had to do the stair gate/babyproofing thing as it now takes P about 30 seconds to go from living room floor to kitchen. It's terrifying. He is currently rolling holding a rattle and book. Am expecting to find some sort of secret lair somewhere where all the toys and probably those missing odd socks are being hoarded. He's rubbish at sitting up though. Apparently only things which enable continuous movement are fun!

HolidaysQueen · 04/09/2008 09:02

I've been feeling all broody when seeing newborns walking in the park and realising that my baby isn't one of those tiny warm sack of spuds anymore. Plus I was at a wedding on Saturday where several people are about to become parents and I realised that we will never have quite that feeling of excitement ever again

But I was rapidly reminded me of how far we have come when I had to wait for an hour in a hellish baby clinic last Thurs (I was 71 of 80 mums and babies... Such are the joys of London's understaffed NHS ) and realised how much newborns cry and how little you understand what they want and what a nightmare it is. My DS spent the time sat up, looking around, smiling and generally being cheery, fed in 10 mins and then flirted with the baby sat next to us until it was his turn. The newborn parents had a look of panic in their eyes during the wait, knowing that at any moment their baby could howl, fall asleep or feed frantically and they didn't have a clue what was coming next... Besides I'm going back to work next March and so need to give that a decent amount of time before having number 2!

Weaning progressing well - pear went down very well yesterday, followed by a blackberry chaser... I'm sure I should be doing the whole 'baby rice then root veg with 3 days between each new taste' thing but that's way too boring and DS hates baby rice.

wearehipsandmakers · 04/09/2008 09:17

Re high chairs, we got a tripp trapp for DS and I have to say it's probably worth the money (plus the resale value on ebay is worth looking at- they seem to go for pretty much the same as they cost new!), DS can get on and off by himself and they're a doddle to keep clean. As DS does what he persists in calling 'artsancrafts' at the kitchen table, both those attributes are a godsend.
Good to hear DD is not the only one who thinks rolling is for other people. I really only have myself to blame for panicking after reading 'what to expect' (at 6 months your baby should be able to do complex equations, and may be able to help NASA out with their space programme ).

fitnfortyone · 04/09/2008 13:52

Preggers, glad you're doing better, hope you don't have to have any more treatment!

LO loving the weaning stuff, am being slummy mummy by buying jars and squeezytubes of stuff for him rather than making from scratch. Easier to dump remaining contents of a jar where the taste is obviously bleugh than the 40 odd weaning cubes studiously frozen from the freshly made bits. Favourite is banana custard, but going to withdraw so many privileges on that one when i belatedly spotted it has sugar added...enjoying "ella's kitchen" squeezy tubes as well as Hipp. This morning we had apples and banana puree, afternoon will be the carrot, apple & parsnip one. Spinach is tolerated, but the nappy revenge is foul!
Got the tripp trapp, love it as it's the right height for the kitchen table. Also just the right height to prop my laptop on to gain optimum ventilation when not being used by baby!

Hmm, just been distracted by the ex-hamster spare cage/fishtank outside. We've obviously had about 6 inches of rain since the hamster died the other week.

PurlyQueen · 04/09/2008 23:41

Matthew doesn't really do rolling either.

I stocked up on loads of Ella's kitchen squeezy tubes at Sainsburys today as they have knocked off a third off the price of baby products.
Gave Matthew some mashed banana yesterday but am slightly concerned because he hasn't filled his nappy yet. Hope he isn't constipated...

Paranoid1stTimer · 04/09/2008 23:59

Hello - you have all probably forgotten my existence but I am still here on the odd occassion - usually cant keep up with all the goss.

Good to see you are all still keeping the March 08 threads going. I don't have time to brush my teeth and hair anymore - seem to have to choose what I brush these days. Not that I have much head hair left to brush though!!!

merryberry loved your version of the poem from the other day. Made me laugh after the original poem reduced me to a little bit of a sniffly weep!!!

Hope you are all happy and healthy x

wontbepreggersagain · 05/09/2008 09:44

weaning- i hated that horrible puree stage- quickly moved to BLW- a bit more mess but i can sit on the opposite end of the table having a coffee whilst they create the mess

Saw the consultant yesterday, my bloods are ok but not great, they are waiting for next weeks results but it looks like i may have to have another course of taxotere- so i'll still be sporting the humpty dumpty look for christmas- thank god for wigs i refuse to get depressed about it- chemo is a means to an end, if i have it i live to see my children grow up and enjoy hopefully 50+ more christmas', if i don't have it i may have a more enjoyable xmas this year but then who knows how many more i may see . Consultant booking me for double radical mastectomy in June 09 once all chemo and lymph stuff has been sorted- so now i just choose my new boobs, i am naturally a droopy 36D so am aiming for a pert baywatch style 36DD, but need to speak to cosmetic surgeon in a few months about reconstruction.

So not the best news BUT at least i know how far along on the journey i am, it will by the end of it have taken two years out of my life- a small price to pay for ongoing health and page 3 boobs !!

e14mum · 05/09/2008 13:37

Coffee morning yesterday at Starbucks- one mum is sitting with her 2 month old on her lap. All of a sudden the baby poos, it shoots out of the bottom of her trousers, onto the floor and onto another mum's leg!

10 minutes later, one of the mums across the table shifts her baby on her lap and realises that she is covered in poo which is leaking out of her baby's nappy!

Luckily, dd kept hers a secret until we went to the baby change. At the rate things were going the rest of us were getting a bit worried. Such a good girl, my dd.

Ewe · 05/09/2008 13:45

preggers, your attitude is fab! Well done for keeping in such good spirits and I hope the next course of chemo does the trick.

You could be Pamela Anderson, long blonde wig, bouncy big boobs! Perfect.

I am a big fan of BLW today DD had porridge (I helped with that!) and toast for breakfast, stick of cheese, cucumber & carrot for lunch with yoghurt and she has broccoli and mash for dinner. It is messy but so easy and lovely to watch.

merryberry · 05/09/2008 14:01

wbpreggersa, shame the results weren't more conclusively in your favour. thrilled they were so much in your favour. i may have to scalp you myself however for reminding me that yet again, xmas is looming. NYRAGH!! such hard work, os many expectations to manage. but boy it must be so loaded with meaning for you, xmases with your family. fight the good fight.

and have a laugh on my behalf to help you on your way. i've just opened the front door to a delivery man with a head torch strapped on (switched off). dp is of on his b'day present soon, bushcraft w/e thing, and ds1 is well into all his camping equipment. i forgot he had me wearing the damn thing.

reminds me! couple of weeks ago, we had men in soundproofing a flimsy party wall in a cupboard before we moved the boys into the room. another delivery man asks me if i have the builders in. yes, say i, soundprrofing a cupboard for me. he looked a bit bemused, like i was a wacko who kept her kids in a soundproofed cupboard. so told him 'it's so no one can hear me scream'

i was so proud of that wit. on broken sleep.

HolidaysQueen · 06/09/2008 13:19

Thanks to Ewe, I am now laughing at a mental image of preggers running around in an orange swimsuit with a twin under each arm...

Just fed DS some beetroot (which he loved) and am now waiting to see if it is true what they say about the effect on his wee and poo...

wontbepreggersagain · 06/09/2008 13:21

laughing!!! you'd be pissing yourself if you actually saw it- not a pretty site!

FfreckleFface · 06/09/2008 22:06

Took little Ff to the hospital to see the Paed on Wednesday. They weighed her and found that she hadn't gained any weight since she was weighed a fortnight ago. Paediatrician examined her, and chatted to Bloke and I, and concluded that she didn't think there was anything the matter with her. However, just to be on the safe side, and because little Ff has 'such pale skin' she decided to take a blood sample to check for anaemia...

Of course she has pale skin! She's got red hair, and one look at me should have told the stupid doctor that she is likely to have inherited her mother's natural skin tone of pale blue, needing two weeks in the sun to go white.

So, after watching them hold my poor little girl down so that they could take what seemed like gallons of blood (it took over a minute) while she screamed the place down, we then had to sit and chat to a dietician ('oh, so you're still breastfeeding?' 'yes, I am. She's 6 months, not a teenager...'), making me feel like the worst parent in the world. She read a weaning booklet at me, then repeated back everything I told her, telling me that I am already doing exactly what I should be doing.

Why the obsession with weight? Ff is rolling over both ways, and is terrifying me by being able to negotiate her way across the floor now, crawling backwards and shuffling sideways. She can sit unsupported for a few seconds, and babbles away merrily. Why are they so obsessed that there must be something the matter with her because she is little?

Sorry.

Rant over.

We've got a Mama's and Papa's Baby Bistro chair. Nice big tray, and an adjustable back to the seat. Bit of a nightmare to clean the straps and clips, but that must be the case with all chairs. Three meals a day now - she ate a whole weetabix yesterday - I only made the whole thing because I expected to be able to eat what was left myself, but she kept on opening her mouth for more. Pasta in tomato sauce is her fave so far, especially with grated cheese, followed by mashed banana with natural yoghurt.

Is everyone having a nice weekend? Anyone else contemplating the return to work? I am experimenting with freelance work from next week, trying to work out if it is feasible for me to work from home.

fitnfortyone · 07/09/2008 13:19

FfFf, sounds horrible, but on the bright side, they couldn't find anything wrong so sounds like they were just trying to justify all that effort for nothing . I'm the same skintone to you and my LO is very pale, but noone has ever commented on it in a worrying way, just mentioned that he has my skin colouring!

Have another few weeks before I go back to work, really not looking forward to it but i know he'll be fine, it's just me having no interest in my work whatsoever. Can't earn enough working from home so in the same hoping to win the lottery boat as everyone else.

LO still on the puree food, though he tried a mini breadstick yesterday - chomped and sucked happily then coughed it out all over me and the table. Had a sample of tiny piece of brie which he seemed to like, and then sucked some custard off my finger. Lots of custard! Doesn't seem ready for anything more lumpy yet, but doing great gannet impressions by opening mouth for spoon whenever possible.

Excited as tomorrow we're off to see Tennant in Hamlet at the RSC, and LO is staying overnight with grannie so Tues morning we can have a long lie in, woohoo! Well, apart from needing to walk the dog, and the postman will probably knock the door at 7.30, but it's the thought that counts

spugs · 07/09/2008 20:24

hi everyone, ive just manged to catch up on this thread .

glad to hear that weaning is going well on the most part izzy is loving her grub and is on 2 meals a day of sweet potato or some other mushed up vedge (how orange is sweet potato poo? it looks like it just come straight back out!)
i have a baby dan high chair but its not been put up yet as iz isnt brilliant at sitting so shes in the bumbo. she sits if you hold her hips but let go and she face plants!

Wow at the babies who can actually get somewhere! we havent mastered the art of rolling back over yet so were still at the roll over, look about and scream stage! Shes very good with her hands though so shes quite happy to play by herself for short periods.

does everyone have babies in routines now? i was really good with this with dd2 but izzy just does her own thing with naps etc and no to days are the same. it seems to work for her but i really need to stop cuddling her to sleep as shes getting spoilt rotten.

preggers - sorry to hear that youve been having such a crap time! you do have a brilliant positive attitude though. my aunty had a full masectomy and reconstruction and she showed me them the other day, they look brilliant. the scarring is no wear near what i expected and her nipples are amazing, thery made them using skin from her thigh and tattoed the areola and they look better then the real thing! good luck with the rest of your treatment

hi to everyone, there seems to be a lot of new people/name changes so im not sure who some people are but hi

HolidaysQueen · 08/09/2008 09:11

Ff - sorry you had a rubbish experience at the hospital. FWIW, one of the babies in my NCT class LOST weight last week and nobody is too worried about her yet. Sounds like Ff is doing just fine!

I'm having a lovely start to the morning - just as well as it's my birthday DS had his best night's sleep in 6 weeks - fed at 10.30 then only woke once at 5 which means I finally got a good night's sleep (I have been suffering from insomnia after his feeds so the 1am feeds were killing me). DH bought me the posh cookery class I wanted and has arranged babysitting so I can do it, and a friend is babysitting tonight so DH and I are going to our favourite restaurant for the first time since DS was born The only downside is that I have to spend today negotiating the path between looking after my baby and making a wedding cake (friends' wedding next Sat, and I didn't get as much done as I needed to yesterday as DS was too cute to ignore!)

iwantasecondone · 08/09/2008 09:31

Was hoping to get here before you today HQ to wish you a hapy birthday! Oh well...happy birthday anyway! Enjoy your day!

wontbepreggersagain · 08/09/2008 09:56

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear HQ, happy birthday to you!

FF- i know what its like- the twins are still sooo tiny- we had a few occasions of- right we'll do blood tests, are you sure you have enough milk, are they feeding enough, how about trying X Y Z??

they leave you alone after a while i think it was when i refused the local health visitor entry to my home (to explain he has the universal nickname of 'drippy hippy' and his fleece jacket is mainly held together with dog hairs, and enjoys telling people about his three broken marrages and the effects it had on the 7 children )- personally i ignored everything they told me and carried on the way i wanted- the girls were happy, healthy and most of all contented so bs to them!

e14mum · 08/09/2008 09:56

Happy birthday HQ!

Ff- It's horrible when they have to take blood from babies- I remember having to leave the room and leave dd with my mum. But, I think that it probably is better to know nothing's wrong for sure.

I'm going to start weaning in 1 week (26 weeks) and part of me can't wait, but I know I'll soon wish for the "easy" days of just milk

merryberry · 08/09/2008 10:38

happy birthday HQ!

spugs · 08/09/2008 16:40

was just feeding iz a yogurt when she wacked my hand and ended up with a huge gloop of it over her eye - cue much screaming! wiping it with tissue didnt get it off properly so i liked her eye it worked as well, will have to remember this one for down the beach
