July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

1000 replies

minipinkscottish · 14/07/2008 17:04

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

sam fed at 10.30 pm and woke up at 4.30 ish am he doesnt cry ever like i said in another post he has only ever snuffled wriggled i have never heard him cry only little whimpers,
hv said as he cant hear he wont cry but id love to hear a big hearty scream strange isnt it
its such a problem when he sleeping as i need to keep him near me to see him and baby alarms are no good either
my daughter came round and i said we check him every 5 mins as he fell asleep upstairs she thought i was being paraniod but on her turn to check we were in the next room and e was crying so badly he was sobbing she was so shocked she didnt hear him
we are of to great yarmouth tomorrow its going to be great to spend some time with all my family
about the sleeping bags everone keeps saying they can wriggle down in them but surely they cant as they have poppers at the shoulders and cant move down
has anyone everknown a baby to move down in them its worrying me now

JODIEhadababy · 22/08/2008 12:09

Ah Disney that must be hard, I don't think I'd ever sleep, no wonder you're frazzled! As for Sleeping bags, you'll know when Sam has his on if he can 'escape' from it, it also depends on how wriggly the baby is!

Sam doesn't cry much either, just snuffles and grunts too (he's actually quite noisy)

YEAH, MA man just called and he's just pressed the big red button to pay me my god damn money!! I will be getting back pay of nearly £1500 too, so thats amazing!!!

disneystar · 22/08/2008 12:17

way to go bet your so pleased about time to isnt it !!!!

disneystar · 22/08/2008 12:17

way to go bet your so pleased about time to isnt it !!!!

JODIEhadababy · 22/08/2008 12:25

Yep really pleased, means I can now afford to go and see my mum and dad in October!

isaidno · 22/08/2008 13:21

and lots of money for retail therapy!

min912 · 22/08/2008 14:00

Disney I really don't see how they can slip down in a sleeping bag, with double poppers on the shoulders the head hole really isn't big enough IMHO. So hopefully that's one less thing to worry about!

Yey for Jodie! I've just got my tax return from the accountant and it turns out I haven't been paying enough tax on my PAYE work so now at the end of January I will have to pay them more than double the usual, and of course I'm not doing any freelance work at the moment... eek. Hopefully they will take the fact I'm on maternity leave into account and I won't have to pay as much against potential future earnings, but.... grrrrr.

Libra1975 · 22/08/2008 17:07

The branded babygros are ok from 7lbs and we have used one for A from when he was 8lbsn and he has never wiggled down. The unbranded ones we have are from 10lbs only.

SK - Happy Birthday for yesterday, your retail therapy sounds fab.

EEC - hope your DH recovers quickly.

Jodie - personally I wouldn't wake up every 3 hours, if he sleeps thru 3 hours I would offer prayers of thanks to the gods of sleep! A wears a babygro and then is put in the gro-bag. Glad to hear the MA is finally coming, mine is finally being paid today as well!

I'm too lazy to dress A up, he lives in babygros.

I went to Wisley Gardens today with my mum and A and it was a lovely day, but during lunch at the cafe my mum saw a little boy (maybe about 3?) by a set of doors boys bawling his eyes out, she went up to him and apparently he had caught his finger in the doors, she took a step towards him to take his hand and then stopped herself and just stood there asking him if he was lost and where his mum was. He just continue bawling before running back to his mum (who couldn't see him from where she was sitting). My mum came back to me and said that she wanted to take his hand but she stopped herself because she didn't want to be accused of an improperity . Now part of me wanted to tell her not to be so silly, but of course she feels like this because she reads the stories in the newspapers such as the granny who was questioned over the fact she kept taking her granddaughter to the park (can't remember the exact story but it was something like that).

Libra1975 · 22/08/2008 17:08

min912 - tax sucks.

RUMPEL · 22/08/2008 19:33

Hi All,

What did you buy SWEETKITTY - you skinny thing ?

Glad most of you are enjoying life now.

EEC - healing vibes to your DH - do you think chondroitin and glucosamine supplements might help long term? EFA's definitley do.

Still a bit mad here. DH is poorly now Took Calvin for his cranial sacral therpay yesterday -would you beleieve he fell asleep in the car, slept all through the treatment - which he seemed to really enjoy and then slept all afternoon!!! AMAZING! Therpaist said he felt all contracted in the spine and shoulders and that his sacrum was locked. He does seem a bit happier today although he projectile vomited again all over him/me/pram/cushion I was propping him up on - think I'll enquire about reflux to my GP. He has been in a sleeping bag since he was about 4 days old - ahtes being swaddled. I put him in a vest, babygrow and the lseeping bag ( a light one) then he is in bed with me - on the bed but nowhere near the duvet -he loves being all cosy - Amber was the same. He has got circulation like me (my Dad's side) hands go blue when cold and the rest of the time we are luminescent white

Took them both to a local cafe after hsi treatment and Amber was waving madly at this blonde boy (she has a penchant for blondies like her Mum) Today we went to the park (I am just getting to know the area now as was too busy with Uni last year and bieng pg) and she went on a swing for the first time - giggles like mad. Then this wee boy grabbed hold of her hair and pulled really hard - so hard he bent her head down His Mummy came up and said he had a thing for pulling girl's hair - of course she was bawling (very snesitive friendly child) so I pickled her up and then he started chucking handfuls of sand at us!! He was only 22 months - same age as her. Still she enjoyed the park.

Am very of you all getting decent sleeps - Calvin still has me up every 2 - 2.5 hours, this morning he awoke at 4.30am with the most awful wind - he was screeching with it, then woke up DD so I was up at ridiuculous am.

MINKUS - Butterlfy aka paulayates aka notanotter - I had a look at her post on un unusual names - she said she was going to post DS name on it today - haven't chekced yet but I am guessing Alice, Abercrombie or Astrid

ISAIDNO - how you getting on with the buggy you bought - I had Calvin out in it otday at the park - keep it in the boot as it is light for DD - he was quite comfy in it.

Take care allxxxx

RUMPEL · 22/08/2008 19:38

Duh - BUTTERFLY meant register as in legally register DS's name not post it hurumph!!
Tell us tell us tell us PLEASE!!!! Curious emoticon aka (nosy bastard)!!

Did anyone wathc Boris Johnson who do you think you are? Was the best one I have seen - he is amazingly witty and intelligent and what a family tree - wow

EEC · 22/08/2008 20:11

R sleeping in grobag tonight for first time. Hope it goes OK and I actually get more than 2 hours in a row!

Rumple - hope DH better soon.

V jealous of all you lot taking babies out. Rory doesn't like the pram - Ithought all babies did! He loves the sling, but that ddoes get quite tiring (although good for the weight loss, and means I can't sit down!

Min - sorry about your tax. I hate tax. I Have two years of tax return to do ... Help.

JODIEhadababy · 22/08/2008 20:32

Hi all

Rumple saw the Boris thing, it was wicked! Love that programme anyway, and a bit of a fan of Boris, but that made him very endearing. How cool being related to royalty and having all that colourful political history too. (I must say that little boy sounds like mine, he can be a real bugger when he wants to be, I have to watch him all the time at play group and things, it's only when he's tired though. I keep telling him off, but no avail, I end up taking him home early Am hoping he will grow out of it)

Also - DH has just thown away 2 oz of expressed milk as he thought it was a used bottle ahhhhhhhhh. Stupid boys...

And - Today wnet for my ECG - evrything fine - But Sam wouldn't settle, so I offered him the boob and he took it! He hasn't had boob for 2 and a 1/2 weeks, have been expressing and giving him a bottle.. Who said about Nipple/Teat confusion! (I know all babies are different, but clever boy!)

isaidno · 22/08/2008 20:32

Rumpel - I really like my zia buggy, although I have not used it lots - it is my car buggy, and I have a big pram for walks. I will use the zia full time from about 6 months or so. It's nice and light and Poppy looks comfy (although she's rather be in the sling!)

Re dressing up - Poppy is like my new dolly! After 2 boys and boring boys clothes I am loving pretty frocks. Have to use all my will power not to buy too much! Poppy will probably grow into a toyboy to rebel against the pink!

CilC · 22/08/2008 21:35

Looks like it is going to be a colic evening/night. Rafferty has a few good nights, but can already tell not tonight. He is doubled up over in pain. DH giving him a cuddle.
Libra I was at Wisley today! WOW! Luckily Raff is great during the day (touch wood!)and loves his pram. Just evenings...

Well off to check emails etc. Have a good night and weekend everyone!

sweetkitty · 22/08/2008 21:43

Evening all we were out all day today first day it hasn't said in oh about 4 weeks so we all went to a kind of theme park/farm park thing, we had a great day, DD1 and 2 had a ball and were so well behaved. B slept for 4 1/2 hours in her pram she loves it, you forget she's there tucked up in the back.

isaidno - I was just thinking about who had the Petit Star Zia I am definitely after one next year once DD2 doesn't need a buggy anymore

Re waking up for a feed I don't after the first week or so. If they are sleeping they are happy, if B does a big stretch of sleep like today she will cluster feed a lot that evening.

B sleeps in a babygro no vest next to me and I kind of wrap the duvet around the bottom half of her or if she is in the cot she has a light blanket.

Her baby acne is getting worse her wee face looks terrible and her skin is awful dry, I have been putting a bit of aqueous cream on it now and again. I looked it up online and it said it starts at 3-4 weeks and clears up by 8-9 and is probably caused by maternal hormones. Also said it's better left alone and creams are too harsh.

Rumpel - I got a new pair of jeans, 2 pairs of trousers and a few tops. Did get a pair of shoes but am taking them back as I have went off them. Now I just need to get my hair cut and coloured and I will be a yummy mummy again as if. Glad Calvins cranial went well and your poor DD too

Am as these non crying babies B starts off whimpering then it goes to full blown screams with baby tears too she has great lungs.

Am off to bed in a bit am shattered.

NotAnOtter · 22/08/2008 22:13

sweetkitty A loves the cocoon and did 4 hours today - we are paying for it tonight though!

re the acne my HV said worst 6-8 weeks

at my post natal group they are all covered but so far A has escaped (odd!) and his skin is all peach fuzz

got not milk in boobs as A feeding all night and stupidly pumped at 7 ..... grrr silly me got to feed again now

sweetkitty · 22/08/2008 22:56

Thanks notanotter - the other two had a few spots at most but B is covered all over her face and neck heartbreaking seeing your beautiful wee newborn covered in spots but shouldn't complain they will go and could be worse.

Can't you give A what you pumped tonight?

NotAnOtter · 22/08/2008 23:06

yes sweets - I give that at midnight - then he goes to 7-7.30...

instead we 'faked' bedtime again including another bath and the one drop that was left in my boob

It worked!!

EEC · 23/08/2008 11:48

morning all -

SK - Rory is another one absolutely covered in spots. I keep thinking it can't get worse, but it does! He started at abot 10 days, and he is now 4 weeks. All over face neck chest head, and now starting to get dry and scaly too over the eyebrows. Beautiful! I know it is nothing to be concerned about, butI really hope it starts clearing up soon. I keep apologising for his appearance and then feeling guilty about it!

CilcC - I hope you're night wasn't too bad. Rory is at his widiest from about 2 am til 8 am. Really strange, and extremely inconvenient and exhausting. I found it really hard to keep a grip last night at about 4am... Keep telling myself it will pass...

pigleychez · 23/08/2008 12:15

Sk- I too was told that the spots are because of mummys hormones in the milk.

Hope you all had good nights...
DH and slept very well last night. Abigail fed at 10, then was wide awake till midnight. Then didnt wake for a feed till 5.15 am! Was very suprised when i looked at the clock!

Quite sunny here today which makes a change!

JacobsPrincess · 23/08/2008 20:47

Thought it was about time I checked in with you ladies. Just got a few minutes while cooking our M&S £10 dinner. Sorry it's been so long!
Dewi is 6 weeks on Monday, weighing in at 10lb 7oz. BF lots but he's such a big hungry boy I'm topping up with expressed/formula in the evenings so I get a bit of rest. He's got a dummy too. DS1 didn't take to dummies, but it's the only way to keep Dewi happy when he's not stuck on me!
And he is a spotty baby too! Started off with beautiful smooth skin, now looks like a hormonal teenager. Scaly forehead (especially the eyebrows) as well, I'm using Aveeno to smooth him out. He has really hairy shoulders still - I thought it would have worn away/fallen out by now...
I'm working up the courage to ask you ladies about stitches, but not too comfortable with sharing TMI...

Minkus · 23/08/2008 20:55

Oh lord Louis was feeding every hour last night/today- has gone to bed ok but am not looking forward to the night feeds if they are every hour again! Suffice to say the word of the day here is HANGING. As in I am absolutely hanging. Just about to have dinner now, nutritious and balanced fish chips n mushy peas. Took both ds's to a birthday party (invite was for ds1 but wherever I go the bambino goes of course) and it was great fun for ds1 but manic for me (careful of the little ones on that bouncycastle- you're supposed to pass the parcel not tear it to pieces all yourself- get your fingers out of that beautiful birthday cake etc etc. Ok he's not that bad but you get the picture! )

DH and I have been a bit narky with each other today because I am tired (not sure what his excuse is ) and I have a concern that he is expecting some relations tonight. I just don't think I have the energy to feel sexy Just so fed up of my appearance, hate my saggy tum and extra baggage as well as the boring old uniform of jeans, feeding vest and little cardi. And being a bit tired makes me want to go to bed to sleep. And that's it. Not a happy saturday night.

Sorry for the selfish post, just needed to let it all out. I do hope you are all having a better evening than me!

Minkus · 23/08/2008 20:58

Jacobs go ahead and ask about the stitches, we've shared so much on this thread/the antenatal one already! Plus you can't shock us, we're mums and everyone knows mums are unshockable

isaidno · 23/08/2008 21:55

minkus ... time to develop a headache...
jacobsprincess - you can't shock me, although I've never had stitches so I won't be able to answer your question anyway!

Just put a new pic of poppy on my profile if anyone is interested. She's done nothing but eat and sleep the past 2 days so I'm guessing she's having a growth spurt. She was 10 lb 2 at 8 weeks. She's getting very good at going to bed; as long as her tummy is full of milk and no wind she is happy to settle herself at about 7:30pm. She usually manages to sleep until 1am, then 4am and 6am.

DS1 told me today he was bored of Poppy being a baby; he wants her to get bigger quicker!
