Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Afternoon,
Thank goodness for some nice weather at last
Jess's first morning back after the hols went well, though the journey back took forever! She asked me to bring her little pushchair complete with teddy at hometime to walk home with, but after a visit to shop she got tired and pushchair got abandoned! I had 2 heavy-ish bags of groceries, her play-group bag, pushchair and teddy and then she asked to be carried! All this and I was caught out wearing my riding fleece when it was def. not fleece wearing weather! We were glad to get home!
Feetheart - Did 10k run in 59 mins 26 seconds or there abouts, just under the hour! I was never a runner this time last year (what with my metal leg an'all) but have really surprised myself! You could maybe give it a try?!
Chacha, hope the boys are lots better, think I've been having an emotional day too!
Anyway off to enjoy the rest of the sunshine, with my £1 Grazia

Panda, poor S Hope he's not poorly for long, he's at a good age for chicken pox is he (if there is a good age...)

OP posts:
Rodeo · 22/04/2008 16:27

Sorry - he's not at a good age

Bless you Rodeo, I really hope the peace maker in you has an effect I was actually close to tears when I realised this might be the end of the Nov 05 group - I wouldn't be the perfect (hahahahahaha!!!!) mother I am today without all of you.

Brownie, hope you realise you can still come to those of us that are left, and you are in our thoughts.

oh no, miniman keeps getting his arm stuck in the cat flap....

Chacha, glad the boys are on the mend, and hope you're getting some of this fine weather down your way. Something about sunshine that makes things seem a lot better .

mypandasgotcrabs · 22/04/2008 17:48

Just posting so that it's in my convos

feetheart · 22/04/2008 17:51

Sorry Rodeo I didn't mean you! Guess everyone's more than a little touchy.

Rodeo · 22/04/2008 18:02

Oh thank goodness, couldn't bear the thought of making things worse Thought I'd delete anyway, maybe a little swear-y for day time (good time Beartime's not with us anymore...)

Hello,

I go away for a couple of weeks and all hell breaks loose! It all sounds like a huge mis communication to me and I really hope that Diege, Twinkle and Beks will decide to come back once things have calmed down, it would be such a shame to loose you after all this time I'm glad those who did meethad a good time catching up!

Rodeo, well done on the 10k run brilliant time! Was it raining? DH did it a couple of years ago and it poured down the whole time!

Brownie - HOw's things? Hope you are ok.

Panda - Poor S hope hes feeling better soon!

Nova - congrats to DH! I bet you're really proud of him!

Well, got back yesterday from Dubai and we had a fab time. Weather was hot and sunny but not too humid, lots of swimming, eating, and generally just chilling and being together! Back to reality now though I always feel so sad when I come home from a holiday, Layla was desperate to go to school to 'show and tell' her bits and bobs that shes bought over there, including a belly dancing skirt! I have to say i missed her today though.

Having another early night, a bit jet lagged i think, S was up at 3.20 this morning and didn't go back to sleep! I think its because Dubai is 3 hrs ahead so it would have been his normal getting up time but DH and I are knackered now!

I truly hope everything settles down on here would be so sad to see any go now! xxxx

feetheart · 22/04/2008 22:29

L&S - hello, glad you had a lovely holiday, the idea of sun sounds lovely (as does the belly dancing skirt, I know another little girl who would love one of those, I bet L was the envy of all her female classmates )
I too hope things calm down and normal service is resumed at some point soon. I have got so much from the people on this thread over the past 3 years and really, really don't want to lose it.

Rodeo - so glad you didn't take offence. You were the last person that the comment was aimed at. I thought your post was great and I'm sorry you felt the need to get it deleted - it was a little bit of sanity on a mad few days!
Well done on the run, under an hour sounds very impressive. No chance of converting me yet though I have signed up for a 10 mile midnight walk in early September.

Panda - how's S? Just make sure you have Calpol for him and something much stronger for you (WKD wasn't it?) Looking after poorly children is HARD WORK.
Talking of which, ChaCha - how was today, do you still need tissues or have the hormones released their grip? Hopefully the latter.

Nova - hope Miniman has learnt that he is too big to use the cat-flap, the image did make me A. uses ours as either a post-box or a loud-hailer, especially if he is outside and wants to come in!!!

Off to bed now, sleep well all.

mypandasgotcrabs · 23/04/2008 10:22

lol at all these cat flap uses the children find!

Hi L&S, do you have lots of photos? Dubai is one of my dream destinations.

Well S is asleep now, so making the most of it before he becomes surgically attached again! lol FH, unfortunately had drank all my wkd the night before, was going to crack open a bottle of rose, but he was being quite sick, so thought better of it. I have managed to get a tiny amount of calpol & piriton into him today, and so far that has stayed down. Hopefully will be able to build up to normal sized doses in the day get some fluid into him.

Buyer ame round yesterday, will be exchanging beginning of next week. So off to counci thurs to get hem to house us. Really don't want council flat.

BTKsmum · 23/04/2008 12:04

Hello girls

I've said I won't be posting any more and I certainly don't plan on dragging this lovely new thread down.

However, I thought I should let you know that after a long conversation with Chacha yesterday where her very wise words and calm nature finally sunk in.

I have texted both Twinkle and Diege and also sent Diege an e-mail holding out the olive branch, apologising for making Twinkle cry and telling them that Dieges reponse reduced me to tears too. I also explained how hurt i was that they thought i would leave them stranded in London and not telling us where they were.

I've asked them to let me know their home no.s so i can call them plus given them mine so they can call me so we can sort things out properly.

The ball is now in their court I've done all I can

Beks

feetheart · 23/04/2008 16:57

Well done BEKS and well done ChaCha.

Hope this means you aren't going anywhere now BEKS - we know where you live you know

BrownieBells · 23/04/2008 22:23

Hello....Echo everyone else's sentiments re miscommunication etc. Think nothing intentional, however all magnified and exascerbated (sp!?) by strange city, ferrety bumps (Twinkle!), poor weather and dodgy English Transport - so will leave my mentions of it there - suffice to say it could have all been so much worse had I made it aswell! (I don't do tubes well!!!!)

Anyway, offer stills tands if anyone fancies a meet up in Stratford at any point.....will leave all to ponder that one.....

Also echo, that friends (and true ones, RL or not...) are so hard to come by, it seems a shame, especially as we have all been through some pretty rough times together (obviously not all at the same time - gosh imagine the mess!!!!!!)

Right - update on Dad (and many thanks for all of your thoughts and asking about him - muchly appreicated). DH went to visit last night, where we found that he had indeed had some bleeding ulcers (he didn't know he had any) and they were concerned with shadows on his lungs - as he is on a stomach ward, they wanted to speak to the chest specialists to ensure correct treatment (but said they had looked at scans, and nothing appeared sinister to them) Anyway, went with Mum to visit tonight, and when we got there, we found him, and he announced "I've got pneumonia, but the goodnews is, I going home!..." Have to admit, I thought he was delerious or something, as this all seemed a little odd to me, but yes, he is now home with all his medication!!! so he def has pneumonia, and ulcers, but at least he is diagnosed, and relatively ok - he should recover quicker at home, as he will be able to relax, maybe get some sleep and also eat what he wants, when he wants it....so fingers crossed - he should be on the mend soon.

Again - thank you all so much for your thougths and concern - it does mean a lot - and unfortunately you won't get rid of me that easily - I am notoriously difficult to get rid of, even if you want too!!!!!

Right, off to finish wine and surf the net!

Love and thanks to all

B
xx

mypandasgotcrabs · 23/04/2008 23:17

Thats good new on your dad BB. Pneumonia's def not nice, probably the worst pain I've ever experienced but as you say he can relax at home & the medication should sort it quickly.

Little man is still not well. Lots more spots today, but so good letting me put calamine lotion on bless him. Thought he'd got over the sickness today, but at about exactly the same time as yesterday, evrything came back up. So still can't get calpol or nurofen into him to bring down his temp or any piriton & he's itching like mad. Has slept most of the day though, so hopefully will have slept it off today.

ChaCha · 24/04/2008 08:54

Good morning,

BB - So glad to hear your father is back home! Hurray! What a relief for you all.

Panda - Sorry to hear about CP. Hard for the LO when he can't keep his meds down but at least he's sleeping which i would hope gives you some sort of rest too (you're not working at the moment are you?) I got CP aged 21 and it was awful, can't imagine what it'd be like for a LO but they say it's good to get it when little no? Look after yourself.

L&S - Welcome back. Sounds like a lovely, relaxing break ahhhhh! Love the belly dancing skirt - hope you got one too!
Any new on H/V post yet? Hope it all went well.

FH - Thank you, was much better. Think days that run into each other can often take their toll and you end up with a melt down day. DH took over and had fun with the kids then bathed and put them to bed and i felt better just to be able to think and rest in peace. All okay now (says me at 8.45am, hmm). Hope your LOs are well.

Rodeo - How are you today?

Nova - Hope you are well and at cat flap.

Hope i haven't forgotten anyone now.

BTKS - Don't want to say too much but i truly admire yesterday's post - hope much good comes from it now [thumbs up, big smile emoticon]

Okay, onto toddler stuff very quickly. What books are your toddlers reading or taking a great interest in at the moment? I have a pile of books that they boys can help themselves too from the shelf, these books have had a good battering (pages ripped, bitten, coloured etc..) but are still readable and due to their state are left there. In light of that I have kept new books and books that i love for the children in a story box that comes down whenever i want to read with them and i'd like to add to our collection. Favourites here are:

  • The tiger who came to tea
  • We're going on a bear hunt
  • Silly Suzy Goose
  • Various Dr Seuss
  • Too many Thomas books
  • Small Bear Lost
and a few others. Would love some recommendations. Thank you

Hope post wasn't too long xx

AmIWhatAndWhy · 24/04/2008 09:53

Chacha glad to hear you are feeling better

Our favourites are

Sea Mice and The Stars
Giraffes can't Dance
Dear Zoo
Alligator Pie
Oscar's party
Puff the magic dragon
Dr Seuss bedtime stories

S really loves the usbourne 'that's not my...' series too.

We do the same as you and keep some out of reach. I used to be really precious about the books and got cross when they were torn/ chewed but soon realised that's just just how it goes.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 24/04/2008 09:54

Oh, sorry, BB really great news about your dad! Wishing him health and strength.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 24/04/2008 10:56

And just to share an impossibly cute story. (It was one of those weepy moments)

Last night we put them to bed, and didn't hear a peep from them.
Then as I went to bed I checked on them and found O had climbed into S's cot, with his teddy, and they were curled up together fast asleep and hugging. AAAAaaaaaaaaw
I love how close they are becoming.

So cute it was worth telling twice.

novadandypowder · 24/04/2008 11:53

That's such good news about your dad Brownie, I hope he doesn't milk it too much when he gets home!

Ami, I love it when the lo's show each other some love .

Chacha, all our books are kept in boxes that both kids can access - one downstairs and one in noos room for bedtime stories. Favourites are:
How to catch a star
All Maisy books
All In the Night Garden books
My cat likes to hide in boxes
Nursery Rhymes
Catch that Kitten
Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see? and the other titles in the same range
The little mouse, the red ripe strawberry and the big hungry bear
Slinky malinky, Scarface claw, hairy mcclairy
I like it when
The bear in the cave
Hit the ball duck

She has 3 books before nap and bedtime, sometimes 4 if I feel like it, but sometimes she can be soooo slow in reading them. She takes charge of the book and sometimes likes to stop the story and talk about what's on the page, or count things like flowers on bushes. It can take over half an hour to get through 3 picture books!

AmIWhatAndWhy · 24/04/2008 13:14

We have a nursery rhymes book too, a big red embossed one that came with a cd, is yours the same?

I find some of them very sinister.

DP has been reading 'politically correct bedtime stories' to them, hehe.

novadandypowder · 24/04/2008 19:21

AmIW&W (not sure what to shorten it to ?) We have a very pretty contemporary rhymes book, and yes it did come with a cd. I have most issue with Rock-a-bye-baby, although on another of noo's cds they have a longer version of Jack & Jill and that involves the mother getting really angry and slapping Jills legs for laughing at Jack! We have a book of fairy tales that have been abridged for toddlers, although all noo really bothers with is that there is a duck hidden in the pictures on every page. I think it's quite important to keep the trad things going, I saw an article that said lots of children don't know many, if any, nursery rhymes and I find that quite sad. We also have a book of Aesops fables, I really remember having them read to us at school. I must confess miniman doesn't get as much time with books as noo got, I'm hoping he'll have the same love for them by the time he's 2.

novadandypowder · 24/04/2008 19:26

oh and very very rude of me not mention the welcome return of L&SM . I'm glad you had a lovely break and sorry for such chaos on your return. I'm sad to say that's not quite the end of it as I'm sure you'll be enligtened to soon .

And finally, noo has been offered a place at the school we really wanted her to get into - so hurrah . That means that miniman also automatically gets a place, double hurrah!

mypandasgotcrabs · 24/04/2008 19:36

Fantastic news nova on Noo getting the place you wanted My cat likes to hide in boxes was one of my favourits growing up.

S is still very ill, has just been sick in bed, he hasn't eaten since Sat lunchtime, I think he must have piked up oe of these nasty sickness bugs and its hit the same time as the cp.

I take it Beks has spoken to you then Nova.
