Hello everyone! So this is a continuation of the pregnancy thread(s) as we’re almost full.

DD was born by elective section on July 18th. Her older brother was born following an emergency section after a failed induction in December 2020 and I didn’t want to go through that again! It was a lovely chilled experience and I was a bit nervous waiting but felt like I was in good hands. I was also home the next day.

Feeding has been tricky for us. I really wanted to breastfeed but as with DS, DD hasn’t taken easily to it and struggles to latch. Nipple shields help to an extent although are not a cure all but she doesn’t get much milk and ends up frustrated anyway. I’ve mostly been expressing for her but realistically don’t know how long I can keep it up. It’s a shame as I do really want to breastfeed but it isn’t happening!

Oh and my wound is infected … lovely!

How is everyone else?

It has been so stuffy, DS caught the sun a bit and has very rosy cheeks Sad

I have a snooze shade for the pram which I thought would get lots of use for a July baby but hasn’t yet!

This is a new one for me but DD has a mini witching hour or three in the mornings. She feeds voraciously and then is unsettled and constantly bobbing her head around and head butting me, grabbing handfuls of my hair and whimpering and unsettled.

Shes been awake since half seven and has just nodded off 😅 nobody move …

Hi all! I’d like to join. I have a nearly 4 week old and a 3 year old. The 4 week old isn’t an easy customer (although slightly better than his brother was 😂) He also has a mini witching hour in the morning @Summermeadowflowers . Fusses on and off, wants to be on the boob then gets really cross with the boob and takes 20 minute, unsettled power naps until he finally sparks out around lunch time, before sleeping away most of the afternoon. The main plus over his brother is that he currently can be put down, both asleep and awake. His brother didn’t touch the floor for his first 4 months or so! We have a hideous few hours from 6-8pm ish where it’s none stop screaming, which of course is right over 3 yo bedtime 🙄not going to lie I cannot wait for the newborn phase to be done forever! If I could give birth to a 6 month old I’d like 3 kids, but I can’t face doing all this again!

Summermeadowflowers · 11/08/2023 14:07

Welcome @VivaVivaa

I hear every single word of that 😅

My two year olds behaviour hasn’t been great, he bit me yesterday and laughed when I said no. I followed advice to walk away which seemed to work but then he bit another child at nursery. He did have a phase of biting between 18-20 months but there have been no incidents for ages so it’s a shame. He also scratched his sister Sad

It is so hard as DD is so needy and wants to be held all the time. I feel like I’ve ignored poor DS.

Hi ladies! Just checking.

Torvi will be 7 weeks old already on Monday. Time is flying by. Does anyone's babies show any signs of sleeping through the night? Torvi is taking less formula when up at night and is going 3-4 hours between feeds. My dd2 slept through just shy of 7 weeks but think I'm being ambitious 🤣🤣

VivaVivaa · 12/08/2023 07:32

Not even close. We were closer at birth! We get a 4ish h stretch at the start of the night (last night was 8:30pm until just after midnight, then a 2h stretch (last night was 1-3pm), then he dozes, cluster feeds and fusses until morning 😂

Mine sleeps a lot at night and doesn't wake much. However, she doesn't like to nap during the day!

AnxiousAnnie94 · 12/08/2023 10:38

@habiller I'm so pleased that your experience is like mine, I don't feel so alone 🤣 it was 26 in our room last night and it was a rough night, we also have another issue now, since about 1am, we have had a poorly little boy 😭 he seems to have a cold, very snuffly and seems to find it hard to breathe at times and very sneezy - did not want to lie on his back so I had to hold him upright ALL night. My neck/ shoulders are so sore.
He's not a happy boy today, can't work out if he's hot from the weather or he's got a temperature too :(

Summermeadowflowers · 12/08/2023 11:05

Anyone with a flailing arms and legs baby - the Love to Dream swaddle is really good. DS and DD both hate being swaddled but the love to dream one gives them freedom to move but holds their arms.

Ours originally belonged to DS but I’ll look tomorrow. I think small but DD is quite dinky.

We’ve had a horrible day/night. I know it isn’t always going to be sunshine and roses but I did have a blissful newborn bubble for a few weeks which now seems to have popped! It feels like DD has cried all day. She hasn’t but she has cried on and off 7-10pm (and was awake for a good while before that) then woke at midnight crying then at 2, crying.

I know she’s overtired but if she won’t sleep, what do you do? Everything that worked with DS doesn’t work here - she bobs about in the sling, she doesn’t like the pram, she hates the car, white noise doesn’t make a difference … Any other ideas? I even tried a dummy in desperation - nope!

OP posts:
VivaVivaa · 13/08/2023 07:03

Is she BF or FF @Summermeadowflowers ? I’m on my second rodeo of a pram/car seat hating baby. DC2 is okay in the sling awake but he has to be outside and will only sleep for half an hour in it and screams on waking until removed so not really a great solution. I hear you with how hard it is.

I literally swore I wouldn’t feed to sleep again after it being an awful, awful association to break with DC1 but here we are, DC2 pretty much lives on the boob and it facilitates 90% of his sleep…

Summermeadowflowers · 13/08/2023 10:32

She’s sort of mixed. She has bottles but most of it is expressed breast milk.

DS fed to sleep, DD, so far, does not.

@Summermeadowflowers does she like baths? We’ve been trying to avoid a prolonged witching hour(s) (ha like we have any say over it) by bathing DD around the time she usually starts getting fractious, which seems to calm her down just enough, and then taking her to our darkened bedroom for a feed swaddled, keeping everything as boring and calm as possible. Basically bringing bedtime way forward. It does mean I miss out on hanging out with dh in the evening but has been working somewhat well so far - just seems like she’s super overstimulated by the end of the day and struggles to go to sleep when tired and gets fussy feeding etc which ends up in a terrible 6-11pm period. Sending love, it’s not a nice way to end the day, especially with fussy night wakings in the mix!

RandomCatGenerator · 13/08/2023 15:37

@habiller I snorted at “uncoordinated poo dance” 😂

RandomCatGenerator · 13/08/2023 15:56

Sending love to @Summermeadowflowers and all those dealing with a toddler and a newborn. It is definitely not easy. Today we broke down on the motorway on the way back from yesterday’s wedding - one hour waiting to be towed to the nearest service station then 3 hours (and counting) waiting for the AA to come and fix the car.

My toddler has been as well behaved as can be expected really but it has NOT been a super fun day. Kind of a horror show. 🤦‍♀️

BackOfTheMum5net · 13/08/2023 16:54

Oh no @RandomCatGenerator ! That’s the last thing you need. Hope you had a good time at the wedding at least- were people admiring your lovely baby?

Summermeadowflowers · 13/08/2023 17:43

Oh god @RandomCatGenerator ! That really is a nightmare!

We actually have had a lovely day as a local park had a few events on. Problem is, it’s meant my expressing went haywire. I know in my heart of hearts I can’t keep up much longer, tongue tie appointment is tomorrow but I can’t see it working the miracle I need!

RandomCatGenerator · 13/08/2023 19:53

We got home seven hours after breaking down. My poor toddler: we had a birthday breakfast for him at my parents’ house, as he’s 2 on Wednesday, and were going to come home and open some of his presents. Instead he had just the most boring afternoon and he won’t even understand why. Guys, it has been. A. Day.

But he’s @BackOfTheMum5net, they were indeed - largely child free wedding so Elijah was even more the star of the show! Thank you :)

Summermeadowflowers · 13/08/2023 20:12

I didn’t realise how young he was - so hard but you’re doing amazingly.

We went to the Lake District on holiday last September when DS was 1 year nine months and got stuck in the most hideous jam I’ve ever been in on the way back. It didn’t move for over five hours. All credit to him, DS was amazing. It was lucky we had drinks and snacks and toys with us but he mostly just sat chatting to the cars!

Yesterday was awful but today lovely - feel like we’re really bonding as a family of four. I just wish I could crack this bloody feeding!

So glad you’ve had a good day @Summermeadowflowers and fingers crossed for tomorrow. You are an absolute trooper for pumping with 2 very small kids. DC1 was not a fall asleep while feeding kinda guy and it was so difficult! Literally the only way I know how to parent currently 😵‍💫

So sorry for your rubbish journey @RandomCatGenerator but glad the wedding was worth it! Hope you have a glass of wine waiting at home x

That means such a lot @VivaVivaa - thanks! DD doesn’t fall asleep when feeding either. She’s either asleep or awake. Never sleepy … she’s awake now. I hope she nods off soon!

Here she is in the love to dream swaddle, it does seem to settle her.
