yes gmm, I did indeed do lots of very exciting boring research into car seats.

The forward facing ones didn't get great write ups but the best ones were the Mamas & Papas and the Maxi Cosi

here's the thread with the Which guide on

GMM
I have sent you my WHICH.CO.UK log in details so you can log in as me and browse the car seat guide yourself, it makes more sense than just the summary, look on your msn x

Hi all

I came through my own profile to this thread and it worked! The usual way I log in hardly ever works at all and I was wondering whether it was something up with mumnset as other sites seem to work ok most of the time.

I love being with my mum and sister and assorted extended family for Christmas (for the first time in 10 years), am really sad that so much of our week has gone by already and that we probably can't do it next year -it's very likely dp's shifts will make it impossible to go away and get back at the appropriate times.

But dp's mum is really upsetting dp, and is hard for the rest of us to deal with. He takes her home tomorrow. Until now she's been physically frail since before we got together nearly 10 years ago, but mentally ok though I don't feel we have much in common. But this week dementia seems to have taken hold and things are going downhill scarily fast. She keeps trying to search my sister's bedroom and believing lots of things that don't make much sense. Eeek. Thank goodness I didn't attempt to do this at home - we couldn't have looked after D and dp's mum on her own, and he's 10 times easier to deal with. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to remind her that giving him her walking stick to play with is NOT a good idea. Grrrr. And dp's really distressed.

Sorry for the rant.

elkiedee · 26/12/2007 23:25

Sorry for ramble all about me and assorted family. Ellie, did you manage to watch The Terminal? Sorry, no suggestions either.

Maveta, sorry that Christmas was so hard on you. How is your sister who's having a baby going to deal with that manner of celebration next year? Hope that you manage to work out a way of doing things that works better for you.

Hugs or pats on the back to all of you, sleep vibes to all the babies. Good night.

DippyChristmas · 27/12/2007 07:30

Morning! Been up ages - yuk!!

Maidenhead was stressful to say the least - When we got there (at the time thye were expecting us) they were out!! So we were stuck out in the cold with a DD who needed the loo, a DD who was cold and a baby who was desperately in need of a sleep!!!! Grrrrr! Took an hour for them to get back .... rest of pm was ok though, which was nice - Sooooo tired when we got home ...... Soooo tired now tbh ....... Yuk .....

So sorry things are tough with DP's mum, Elkie - So when people get old, isn't it!!? {{{{hugs}}}

Any ideas what to do today with my crazy children!!?

geordiemacminxpie · 27/12/2007 09:12

Have read & commmented, GMM.

ElfPolarBear · 27/12/2007 09:39

hi everyone
lol gmm! sorry you and potc have been having feeding problems, hope they improve
leaky, so sorry to hear your news, hope you're feeling ok
Thanks everyone for worrying about T, he seems fine now
Having a mixed time here. After T's scary episode we then ran out of gas. Luckily the ;lovely gas people came and filled it up so not too bad. Went to MIL's on Christmas day where T got totally over stimulated and seemed to go into meltdown in the afternoon, full blown toddlr tantrum. He then didn't go to sleep until 11.30, which he has been doing a lot recently. He had a mini tantrum at mum's yesterday but not as bad as we were expecting it. We then decided last night that we had to get him to bed earlier so put him in his cot, awake at 8, did a combination of feeding, rocking, holding, shushing and leaving him to cry for an hour or so by which time he finally fell asleep very very angry with us. He slept, without waking unto 8.30 but woke crying and looking angry with me so we'll see how he is tonight. Just to top it off, dh has man flu!
Thanks for listening, I needed that winge. Not sure if things are getting better or still as sh*t.

mammyjounderthemistletoe · 27/12/2007 09:59

Hi all. Sorry to hear that some have had stressful christmasses.

Elf, glad to hear T is ok now. So scary for you. Hope things settle down for you generally too.

Elkie, so hard when people get older. They have little understanding of what is going on, but it is heartbreaking for those having to watch. > to you xxx

Dippy, at them being out when you arrived. FGS, surely they knew when you were getting there. Some people!

Leaky, sorry to hear about your gran, hoping she will be at peace very soon xxx

Maveta, I really felt for you when I read your post. Christmas really is so stressful. Its made worse when children are added in as both sets of in laws (for me anyway) want to see them on the day. Ends up being a day with quite a bit of time in the car.

Pillock, bless your little M. Hope he now likes his presents

Lovely, but very busy christmas day here. Ds wound up like a top, but totally amazed that he got the things on his santa list!! He was opening things and saying "do you know, that is exactly what I wanted!". So cute. He also told F that she could go on our christmas tree and be the angel, as she was so beautiful. That was a tear in the eye moment I can tell you. He was so sincere too!

Ok, so I cant remember any more. Apologies to all those I have missed, I just wanted to pop in for a quick catch up! Take care all xxx

iMustBeMad · 27/12/2007 10:10

I want a ds like that mj
sadly, as mine had asked for a 3 seted bike he'd seen in a nursery catalogue, and another brother/sister to fill the 3rd seat there was no flippin way he was getting what he asked santa for

DippyChristmas · 27/12/2007 10:19

LOL Pillock

Glad it was lovely, MJ - bless you DS

Right. Shower ....

elkiedee · 27/12/2007 10:23

Well, dp and his mum have set off for Peterborough via Leeds, hopefully on their first train now. Stepsister is also on her way home with her boyfriend and dog, and D is asleep. So I thought I'd have a quick catch up before mum's dh nabs this computer. There are several others in the house but I feel I should stay quite close by to Danny (it's a big house on 4 floors including the basement).

gmm, I cringed when I read your story. How awful to get up and out so early for nothing. And what time did those ahead of you in the queue get there?

Katy, sorry you've had a rough Christmas. If you get a chance today, snatch a nap.

elkiedee · 27/12/2007 10:24

LOL at POTC, that's so cute though, as is MJ's ds.

LuceYule · 27/12/2007 10:32

Merry Christmas ladies

EPB so glad that T is better now. What an awful shock for you

Sorry to hear that others didn't have the easiest of days.

GMM at you being at next at that time of the morning! What a total PITA with their opening times. Hope that you have managed to grab a few bargains on line from the comfort of home.

It has been a really hectic few days here but very lovley. The dcs didn't wake us up until 7.45am on christmas day which was great. We had four happy children with santas presents and the biggest dinner which was yummy.
DH and I treated the family to a Wii and much fun has been had by all. Altough think that I might have to ban the dcs so that I can have more turns

B (aged 3) was so sweet, halfway through opening his presents he turned and said to us "I am a lucky boy" Aaawwwww such a cutie.

Hope that you all enjoy the rest of the festivities

PillockOfTheCommunity · 27/12/2007 10:46

I love to hear all these cute children stories

I did post to say thank you for my present Luce but not sure if you saw it? Thank you again anyway

gmm you have mail

LuceYule · 27/12/2007 11:05

Thankyou Pillock
Glad that it arrived safely, enjoy!

DippyChristmas · 27/12/2007 11:22

DH has taken the older 2 out to do some jobs and P is sleeping - My head feels like it is going to explode, DH & I are really tired & stressed out - To top it all, I shut DD2's fingers in the car boot this am!!!! It was truly awful - she screamed so loudly and I think I screamed twice as loud - I think DH thought she had been hit by a car or something!!! Poor little mite, I felt so terrible. Nothing's broken though and she says it doesn't hurt anymore 2 of her fingers are really swollen but not hurting to touch. She is such a tough cookie. I was sure I had broken her hand. Bad mmummy. DH & I are really at end of our tethers though. Needing a break. Badly.

Sorry for the moan .....

PillockOfTheCommunity · 27/12/2007 11:31

Dippy
I'm working from home, honest

Have a report to amend and email to my work address, then going into the local feed mill to make use of their admin facilities and send it where it has to go. better than going all the way to Ipswich (35miles) when the mill is a mile away!

DippyChristmas · 27/12/2007 11:39

"Working from home". eh!!!? Oh aye!

Send me hugs - I need them!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 27/12/2007 12:16

ooh yes, loads of work going on here
have just rung Insurance Company and cancelled my renewal, seemed a bit pointless insuring a car I don't have (renewal due on 30th dec.)
Also discovered they have not actually collected the car yet, let alone asked an engineer to look at it

erm, hugs you say? not sure I know how

that's me in an awkward, elbows out, hugs position

DippyChristmas · 27/12/2007 12:25

Appreciated all the same.

Our car is at the garage too and will be there for the foreseeable future, I guess!!?

Lunch.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 27/12/2007 12:52

I'm bored, might take a break and get some lunch here too

mammyjounderthemistletoe · 27/12/2007 12:58

for you dippy. It is so hard when both you and dh are stressed isnt it, makes even the little things seem like a mammoth task. Take care xxx

Pillock, hope you get the car sorted out soon. Cant believe they havent even collected it yet. I had my car bumped in a car park a couple of years ago and my insurance company were fab. It was fixed and back to me within a week! Am sure that is the exception rather than the rule though

Luce, glad to hear that you have had a lovely time

PillockOfTheCommunity · 27/12/2007 12:59

juding by the last cockup time they had my car, when it took them 6 weeks to replace the bumper and respray a panel, I'd say you did indeed hit upon the exception!
