Here we go again!

I'd do another delightful intro, alas I've lost count which thread this is now and we all know our LO's names anyway 😁

So instead I will just say, Merry First Christmas together to you and your LOs! 🎄❤🎁

May the sleep regression pass as soon as they see Santa later this week...

...May they love weaning and may our kitchens survive...

...May 2022 be full of blessings for them and for us ❤❤❤

Oldcomers and newcomers welcome, as always! 🥰

It's very common for babies' legs to go over the end of their car seat and doesn't mean it's too small. Only when their head gets to the top is it outgrown. You can remove shoes when in the car if it's a problem, otherwise just lift legs up and rest them on the backrest of the seat, or cross them.

Ready2020 you were talking about sleep the other day. I went onto Lyndsey Hookway's page to try and find something helpful and I found this which is interesting - she suggests to reduce naps in the day if night sleep takes a while to get going or is very fragmented (with acknowledgement that it's very normal for babies to still feed at night at this age). I noticed that DS3 will have crazy long lie ins if I leave him in the morning so we have started waking him a bit earlier and I've been tracking his naps using huckleberry to see where the pattern is, and it seems pretty predictable. So fingers crossed that means he's not "using up" all his sleep needs in the day any more.

Then I haven't watched this one yet but she has a bit of a rant about sleep regressions here so I thought I'd share that one too since a lot of us are in that age range:

Hey ladies.

Just wanted to wish all of you and yours a very happy new year.

Stay safe x

Ready2020 · 02/01/2022 03:04

@bertie thanks so much for thinking of me. Last night was a good solid 5 hours sleep then 2 to 3 hours. Tonight is 2 to 3 hours again. Not sure what I've done differently to get that 5 hours.

Ready2020 · 02/01/2022 03:09

My sister died last night at 7.30pm. My mum and her husband were in the room with her. I'm still up north. She just deteriorated so fast after being out the hospice. I think she used all her energy getting to Christmas to see everyone. She was peaceful in her bed though. I'm so glad my mum was there. She just had a feeling Sarah wasn't right (mum is a retired nurse) and got her neighbour to drive her over yesterday. My mum does drive but not on motorways. I feel crap that I wasn't there but glad she was peaceful and with my mum.

@Ready2020 I am so so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and all your family at this difficult time Thanks

BertieBotts · 02/01/2022 07:42

It's unlikely to be anything that you have done or not done, sleep will normally change and flow as they grow. Alex was up every 45 mins last night D: but it will even out again.

So very sorry to hear about your sister Flowers

Smurf123 · 02/01/2022 07:50

Sophia slept for 4 straight hours at the beginning if the night and then was up every hour after that here too

I even cut our fizzy drinks in case that was affecting her ... since it made no difference I think I'll have my can of full sugar coke today to try and relieve a little bit of the tiredness!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 02/01/2022 08:05

@Ready2020 am so sorry for your loss. As you said the main point is she went peacefully. Keep strong babe xx

PurplePansy05 · 02/01/2022 08:17

@Ready2020 I'm really sorry for your loss ❤ xx

@Ready2020 I’m so sorry to hear the news. I’m glad she has family by her side when she went. Thinking of you all.

biscuitcat · 02/01/2022 11:21

Oh @Ready2020 I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 thinking of you and yours xxx

RandomCatGenerator · 02/01/2022 11:30

I’m so sorry for your loss @Ready2020. May her memory be a blessing x

RandomCatGenerator · 02/01/2022 11:32

On sleep - we had, for the first time, an uninterrupted 5 hour sleep! He ate at 23:30, chewed his hands and kicked around until 00:00, then didn’t wake until 05:00!!

Fran919 · 02/01/2022 11:48

@Ready2020 I’m so sorry for yours and your family’s loss, may she rest in peace Flowers

Fran919 · 02/01/2022 11:51

On the sleep front, we’ve noted a 6.15pm bed time is optimal, she generally sleeps through till 4 with maybe a 30 min awake time but she’ll get back off by herself, I just watch. She’ll wake again at 5ish and goes back off till maybe 6.30. If she goes down any later than 6.15, she wants to start the day at 5.

I’m glad I’m out of the hourly wake ups… for now 😬

PurplePansy05 · 02/01/2022 11:58

I'm having real trouble bf him now with teething. He gets clearly uncomfortable after 15-20 mins sometimes. Morning feed is usually ok. But when we get to later in the afternoon it's either shorter 15 min feeds or a real struggle to feed anything at all. I can see he's trying so hard to feed and he's hungry, but he keeps unlatching himself. Yesterday was particularly bad, he cried a lot, it was that horrible cry 😔 Teeth still not out, but I can see the 4 bottom and 2 in the front under his gums so it can't be nice for him. Do you offer Calpol ladies and how much if so? I had to give him one dose a day on 3 days so far. I'd rather not, but he is really struggling xx

Ready2020 · 02/01/2022 12:11

Thank you everyone.

@fran when is the last nap if you're putting to bed at 6.15? I've been doing last nap from 4 to 5 ish, usually only half hour to 40 mins then bed time at 7. Maybe I should mess around with times.

Fran919 · 02/01/2022 12:33

@PurplePansy05 oh bless! Do you have the powders?

@Ready2020 last nap is between 3.30 - 4.15, I try to only give 30/40 mins too. It’s the one nap I support her to sleep with too and leave the light on etc so it’s not too deep, which is what the ‘sleep training’ book recommends and seems to work

PurplePansy05 · 02/01/2022 12:58

@Fran919 No, what powders do you mean? xx

OP posts:
Smurf123 · 02/01/2022 13:03

@PurplePansy05 I've done calpol if she's really uncomfortable but teething gel is also great. I forgot ours so just bought one here but at home I've found anbesol to be the best when I used it for ds. Also a cool teether helps, I've put the matchstick monkeys in the fridge before

PurplePansy05 · 02/01/2022 13:18

@Smurf123 Is it Anbesol gel or liquid that works best in your experience? I've just been googling it and found lots of positive stuff about the liquid in particular. The Kelly Mom website says not to use anything with anaesthetic properties if you BF though, which I can quite understand. Does Anbesol not interfere with BF (well, more so than teething itself I suppose)? xx

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 02/01/2022 13:32

And thank you for other suggestions, so far we've tried Sophie, teethers cooled in the fridge, muslin cloths to chew on, cool wet cloths to chew on, a gentle massage of his gums, cuddles, distraction and Calpol. You can tell I've gone through the list, right Grin Some things work better on some days, other things on other days, but sometimes nothing seems to be working well. I wonder if his teeth are really close to coming through now or if it's because there seem to be several coming at once. I just want them to be out 😂

Also, he's decided he won't roll again 😂 I give up on encouraging him. I just have a child that chose to do something else instead. He's started to hold himself up really well, he can sit with very little support, his legs are very strong too now - strong kicks and no longer folds when I hold him up "standing". I'm really surprised how much he's changed in the last fortnight. He's still not like that ninja baby you talked about @Inmypjsagain 😂 But he's really come on now.

He doesn't shut up either, bless his heart, it's very cute. Babbles to us, to the pets, toys and even to himself ❤ And he plays with toys on his own now, obviously only little things, he'd move them, bash them on the table, pass from one hand to the other and sometimes drop on the floor. But I'm so proud of him and sometimes I feel rather redundant?! 😭 I didn't expect to see so many changes in him so soon, my tiny baby is definitely gone and I'm both proud and sad 😭 xx

Fran919 · 02/01/2022 14:25

@PurplePansy05 they’re called Ashton and Parsons teething powders, they seem to work for DD. Not sure if can be used if BF but it’s all herbal. My sister swore by them with her 2 children which is why I got them, not tried anything else yet though.

@Smurf123 my DD had her PCV as part of the 12 week jabs

Is anyone thinking of weaning this month? I know it’s technically next but wondered if any LO are showing signs / readiness etc?

Daffodil21 · 02/01/2022 15:51

@Fran919 I've been wondering if DS has been showing signs actually but also thinking they are probably just teething signs? He'll be 5 months on 9th and was planning on waiting until he's at least 5.5 months. When I looked to see about if they're ready to wean he seems to tick every box except being close to 6 months.

Realised I sent DH back with all the teething things we had except some gel so looked in Tesco and got a matchstick monkey as remembered reading about it on here this morning but can't remember who said, so hoping it'll help!
