Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

@PurplePansy05 oh really ?? DD feeds every 2 hours in the day roughly now but she used to go 3 hours or more 🥴xx

BertieBotts · 12/11/2021 06:14

It's definitely normal for them to become more efficient at feeding at this age. Your supply night start to down regulate as well which means your boobs might feel smaller, stay soft between feeds rather than getting hard and "full" and leaking may stop or reduce. Pumping output often drops as well. If you don't know that's coming then it can seem like a drop in supply which is a bit alarming but really it's just your body adjusting to how much your baby takes.

That said I don't know how long feeds are taking here as I usually let him fall asleep so it can seem much longer than it is. I am finding that he is more likely to reject a feed whereas he would have always wanted one before.

PurplePansy05 · 12/11/2021 07:54

@lucyrp Sorry, I meant this is my total bf time in a 24 hour period. The gaps between feeds vary and he generally seems more hungry and therefore feeds more frequently in the afternoon. This could be because we may have found our rhythm a bit - we're usually out doing something from 11am, he might nap on a walk or after and then he seems to feed more frequently later in the afternoon. I'm only now noticing these things, he seems perfectly content this way.

@BertieBotts I've noticed this in the last few weeks, it's quite nice but strange at the same time to have my breasts feel relatively normal and yet still be able to feed him without any issues. xx

Do you ladies who are BF notice that your DC always comes off the boob themselves ? Most of the time we establish the end of a feed because she starts popping on and off which indicates either wind or a dirty nappy

BertieBotts · 12/11/2021 10:04

Yes DS does that too. Or he will fall asleep as the end of a feed.

Smurf123 · 12/11/2021 13:41

Dd would feed all day if I let her. She's ok if we are out busy but if we are home she likes to feed. We had a hospital appointment this morning to check her eyes, one of her eyelids doesn't open as much as the other - it's got a lot better though than it did when she was first born. They think it isn't affecting her vision which is good but will keep an eye on it so back again in a few months. Early start this morning though and a teacher training day so no school for ds so we are currently curled up with a blanket a popcorn bag of Cheerios for ds, dd feeding, watching a curious George movie. I seem to be tired really easily atm and dd sleeps pretty well at night she is maybe up for 1 feed and sometimes not at all so it's not that

PurplePansy05 · 12/11/2021 15:42

@lucyrp Yes, he comes off and smiles at me with a content little noise and we know we're finished. If something is bothering him (usually wind), he'd start to wriggle and fuss and we usually take a short break then and come back on the breast few mins later xx

@biscuitcat Have you figured out how to pull out the sun shade from the Uppababy stroller seat?? Mine is a Cruz V2 but basically the same as Vista V2 I think. I cannot do it at all. I know I can pull the entire canopy over but I'm looking for that silver hood like in the carrycot? I can see it should be there, but not sure if only on V1 models??? @wimbler do you have it on your Vista stroller?

Great buggy but blimey, no instructions! xx

OP posts:
wimbler · 12/11/2021 17:21

@PurplePansy05 yes i have the silver uv sun shade on the stroller seat. I think they re designed the hood on the new version so not sure where it would be if it’s there at all. Is there a zip you can undo on the hood that makes it extend more? Tbh I hate the silver bit, it’s really flimsy and never pops back in properly although that could be because dd messes around with it every time she’s in the buggy…

wimbler · 12/11/2021 17:25

@PurplePansy05 uppababy have their own YouTube channel where they put all the videos demonstrating how to do everything. Might be worth looking there?

PurplePansy05 · 12/11/2021 17:32

@wimbler I looked at that channel, but I'm just a bit thick 🤣 I didn't like the flimsy bit of the carrycot because I couldn't see DS. I think it should have a little pocket in the front which you could lift, it's an obvious design flaw. But I thought a similar type shade would be useful on the stroller seat but it's nowhere to be seen. I've managed to pull the whole hood over the stroller seat and wonder if DS will suffocate under it, it's so deep Hmm xx

I think the new one comes down as low as the old one. I never liked the silvery colour, in fact i was always envious of bugaboo owners as the hood on those are great! The darker the better I think, we use a snooze shade instead though which is great

Daffodil21 · 12/11/2021 19:01

So I spent today doing a course to make a memory bear with one of his onesies. Going back tomorrow to finish it. Really enjoyable except when I got there someone said 'Let's hope no one goes into labour today' directing it at me and an actually pregnant woman (everyone else was 60+). I looked at her blankly and didn't help her out all. I'm so sick of comments like that so I deliberately made her feel really bad about it. It's a good job I'm not sensitive isn't it. Anyway, if any of you are still holding onto a bump, you're not alone! The annoying thing is I actually thought it had gone down a bit but obviously not!

biscuitcat · 12/11/2021 19:01

@PurplePansy05 I think the extending hood is all there is - or at least, it's all I've managed to find! I keep hoping I can pop it over and Rowan will be like a pet bird and go to sleep 😂 not worked yet...

Smallbean27 · 12/11/2021 19:28

So today I spent longer trying to get Rohan to sleep than the time he has actually slept 🙃. Fingers crossed he has a good sleep tonight!
Did anyone else's LO go through a phase like this, he is 11 weeks?

PurplePansy05 · 12/11/2021 20:38

Oh god @Daffodil21 that's so rude! I'm so glad you didn't help her out! I think only someone who's never been pregnant can come up with this sort of comments xx

OP posts:
biscuitcat · 12/11/2021 20:39

@Smallbean27 oh my goodness yes! A couple of weeks ago I walked Rowan around for 50 minutes to get a 45 minute nap 😣 and actually he must have been about 11 weeks then too. He's not a good napper by any stretch of the imagination but he's slowly improving and now it mostly takes less than 20/25 minutes to get him to drop off - he's about 13.5 weeks now.

@Daffodil21 that's so rude, and really thoughtless. Hope you're feeling OK too. That course sounds so good!

Does anyone know, re sleep - for weeks, Rowan has had his bedtime feed at sometime between 7:15 and 8, and this has sent him to sleep and I've been able to put him down in the bassinet. Recently, the last week or so, the feed hasn't sent him to sleep and he's needed walking around like in the day to drop off. The rest of the night is like normal (we wake at 10:30-ish for a nappy change and feed to sleep, as he will feed to sleep this time, then usually 1 wake at 3/4-ish, again, feeding to sleep). Is there an explanation for that? Is it the start of a sleep regression, or just a baby being a baby and starting to do different things?

Daffodil21 · 12/11/2021 20:52

Don't worry ladies, I made her squirm 😂 and then when someone was offering doughnuts around I said no thank you and almost followed up with 'better not if people think I'm pregnant' but thought better of it 😂

lucyrp · 12/11/2021 21:02

Thanks re the finishing feeding. Does anyone else's LO properly clamp their gums down on your nipple now too ?🥴

Jessicapebbles · 12/11/2021 22:22

@sarah13xx Thank you! It’s been crazy busy - I’m going to go back to work however and see how it keeps going. If I can earn more making clothes then I’ll work from home!

I didn’t actually make that particular pair but that is what I generally make! I’ll put a few pictures on. If anyone wants to follow me it’s @pebbleandpickle on Instagram. Also on Facebook too!

@PurplePansy05 she does have such long legs bless her! Haha apparently I like to keep busy 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ luckily Ebony has been very good and I was lucky to have hubby at home for the first 6 weeks. I needed something for me & it’s really taken off! Xxx

@Smallbean27 DD is doing exactly that today and she was 11 weeks on Tuesday. We've been trying to get her down for the night since about half 6 and we still haven't been successful 🥴😭 in that time we've had 1 poo, 3 outfit changes and a lot of sick. Plus tears from me and huffs and puffs from OH. I managed to feed her to sleep and then swap for the dummy and I leant back with her asleep cuddled in and she threw up everywhere. OH managed to rock her to sleep in her chair and carried her upstairs and she then woke up straight away. She hasn't slept "properly" for over 9 hours now and it's exhausting. She normally naps really well in the day but not today

sarah13xx · 12/11/2021 23:51

@Jessicapebbles I’m looking at starting a crafty type thing and I was saying to my mum how you need decent photos of the items with some sort of props or background.. you’ve totally nailed the photos 🤩 it creates the impression it’s a well established business I think and makes people want to buy from you!

sarah13xx · 12/11/2021 23:57

@biscuitcat I don’t know but I know they’re a similar age and Freddie was almost inconsolable at bedtime for a spell there, the only way to make it stop was to do the frantic rocking, knee shaking while he’s sitting on me or walking up and down until he literally just nodded off mid-tantrum. All of a sudden in the last week or so he’s really started going for it with the thumb sucking. He doesn’t really fall asleep while I’m sitting in the chair with him after his bottle before bed. Usually I would have sat there til he fell asleep on me then very carefully put him down but now he doesn’t fall asleep there so I can put him in wide awake and because he’s so obsessed with the thumb he’ll just happily lie there sucking away til he falls asleep 🙈 It’s so bizarre how their wee routine just changes because they want something completely different. I’ve found he does cry less now he does it though because he’ll just shove that in instead 😂 He was bawling his eyes out in the car earlier because he couldn’t get his thumb into his mouth with the angle he was at in the car seat 🙄

sarah13xx · 13/11/2021 00:01

@Smallbean27 Freddie has drastically cut down on how long he sleeps for naps during the day 🤦🏼‍♀️ He used to have a good 2 hours at lunchtime and I could actually get stuff done but since hearing about a sleep cycle being 45 minutes it seems to be almost exactly 45 minutes he sleeps for when napping then he’s wide awake again. Really can’t complain though because he’s slept a solid 12 hours a night since 10 weeks so I will put up with actual hell on earth during the day if need be 😂

Smallbean27 · 13/11/2021 02:38

@biscuitcat thanks, hopefully it's just a phase and it will pass! We also feed to sleep before bed, he is just always so tired and just falls asleep!
@lucyrp that doesn't sound tun! Hope she has gone down now. It'd gard when they are just so overtired and just miserable!
@sarah13xx same! I could usually guarantee at least an hour on a pram walk...not anymore!! Same he is a decent sleeper waking mainly once for a feed, your right although soul destroying at the time. It is the better way round
