Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

This is with the full insert but no wedge

August 2021 Babies - They Had To Be Gorgeous, Just Look At Us
BertieBotts · 06/12/2021 11:21

Yes I would def take head piece off. But I think you do need to use the wedge officially.

You can send a message to Joie, sometimes they approve it without, but the manual does say at least 9kg/6 months to remove wedge.

BertieBotts · 06/12/2021 11:22

In general though, although it's too deep without the wedge, that is top notch car seat/harness use in general! You wouldn't believe the messes people get into.

Daffodil21 · 06/12/2021 11:25

@sarah13xx sometimes just one cheek here too! They're not as swollen today. Oh no, I hope he goes back to not waking during the night!

We had a better night last night. He woke at 340 and it took 40 minutes instead of the usual 20 and then didn't wake until 7:30, had a bit more of a feed and then went down again until 845, so much more like his 'usual' pattern. He soaked through his nappy so needed a full change which is maybe why it took a bit longer to get back down that usual (DH did it) so I hope he's back to normal and the other nights were just hiccups. Sorry to those having tougher nights, I know I can't really complain but the 1.5 hour wake was a bit much!

@Smurf123 glad the dummy helped her get back to sleep.

Re house state - we had the dining room carpeted last week. It's so much warmer and it's so nice to have a carpeted floor for DS. We're going to get the living room done after Christmas too. So the house was a mess while we emptied the contents of the dining room into the living room, then I had a good tidy up and got on top of the washing (ha is there really such a thing?!). But then last night we got all the Christmas stuff down to do the tree, so now it's a mess again! We're not doing anything today so I'm jus going to tidy up (again!), and of course do multiple washing loads. And maybe finally the small ironing pile that's been looking at me for weeks. Maybe...

Daffodil21 · 06/12/2021 11:25

Oh and welcome @babyturtle19 😊

PurplePansy05 · 06/12/2021 13:38

I don't know what has bloody possessed me, but I've decided to paint the fireplace surround and wall before Christmas. Paints have just been delivered, house looks like a tip again with all the Christmas decs boxes and Amazon delivery boxes, cats are having a wild time hunting down the tree and we've descended into general chaos which seems to be my household 99.9% of the time now...@Daffodil21 There's no such thing as being on top of the washing, maybe for an hour a week here 😂 The ironing pile is looking at DH, I've had enough!

@BertieBotts you've really tickled me with them watching us eat, Leo does that a lot and reacts exactly as you've described, it's so funny 😆 xx

Ok I should clarify: my healthy snack list and exercise attempts are happening because I've been eating all the donuts and none of my prepregnancy clothes fit. Not perfect over here still having plenty of biscuits just working on shifting things little by little!

BertieBotts · 06/12/2021 14:58

I have bought my first baby christmas present: A teething ring :o

I also have my eye on some colour changing spoons and he will have some vests to open on Christmas morning. I chose autumnal colours as he looks lush in forest green 😍

PurplePansy05 · 06/12/2021 15:38

The mushroom one is lush, Bertie!

@WolfMother326 Chocolate chip shortbread is the main culprit here...and the German Christmas lebkuchen/stollen...also if anyone likes Jaffa Cakes, they now do Jaffa doughnuts, you can thank me later Grin xx

OP posts:
biscuitcat · 06/12/2021 15:47

@PurplePansy05 ooh are the Jaffa doughnuts nice? I've seen them and been tempted!

@BertieBotts the mushroom one is so lovely! I have two onesies and a romper with mushrooms on - very in this year 😂

PurplePansy05 · 06/12/2021 15:58

I like them a bit too much @biscuitcat Blush xx

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 06/12/2021 16:30

It's cute isn't it! They are slightly too long so I decided to wrap them up for Christmas even though I didn't buy them as a present.

Ready2020 · 06/12/2021 17:16

@BertieBotts i love that mushroom one! Where did you get it...?

babyturtle19 · 06/12/2021 18:04

Hello!
Thankyou for all the welcoming messages! We are both doing well thank you. I am fully enjoying motherhood and spending time with my little one. It is going so fast already!
Just reading the posts about teething. I think we are at this stage too, lots of dribble, rosy cheeks and chewing on things!

Ready2020 · 06/12/2021 19:46

Oh man I'm in the bad books. OH is getting DD off to sleep in his arms and I'm in the room too on the bed. She's been down for 10 minutes and I did a sudden sneeze that I couldn't keep in. It woke DD so now he needs to start again Blush

sarah13xx · 07/12/2021 00:09

@Ready2020 if you follow Ryan Thomas (Lucy Meck’s partner) on Instagram go on and watch his story. They’re on holiday in Abu Dhabi and they’d got their toddler to sleep at dinner in the pram, managed to get him up to the room, changed and into pyjamas silently in the dark almost then when Lucy thought she was turning on one light it was actually the switch for the entire suite they’re staying in so every light in the place came on and he started screaming 😂😂 Was laughing at it knowing the feeling exactly

sarah13xx · 07/12/2021 00:18

@Daffodil21 that’s good, he’s maybe just a bit out of sorts this week and will settle back into his routine again soon. I feel like I will not cope well if he suddenly ever becomes like a toddler who just doesn’t sleep 🙈 Everyone else is well prepped for it but I’m in this blissful bubble of only having myself to blame when I’m tired because I stay up to late 🙄

Although on that note.. we were talking to DH’s cousin the other night. He was asking the usual how does he sleep etc. He was saying he sleeps all night etc and he said his little boy (15 months) did sleep but now gets up at 3/4am and they have to sit and watch baby tv til he falls asleep watching it. Now no judgement (I say as I’m about to pass comment on it) and maybe I’m naive and inexperienced with having a baby any older than I have but surely getting into the habit of putting them in front of baby tv in the middle of the night can’t be great for trying to stop them getting up every night 🤔 I’d imagine theyre just desperate and its what they’re resorting to doing but it seems like every second person you speak to has a story like this to tell. I’d never be that person and say anything but you do kind of want to be like eh I can see what your problem is here 🙈

Smallbean27 · 07/12/2021 08:50

@Fran919 thanks for the info! I hope your appointment goes well.
I have booked an assessment for next week, just have a gut feeling. They are a lactation consultant too, so can advise on feeding if TT isn't the issue.

Daffodil21 · 07/12/2021 09:24

@sarah13xx he was back to 'normal' last night so hopefully that's it for his extra feed and 1.5 hour wake up! Ha, yeah that doesn't sound ideal but at the same time if Elliot's 1.5 hour wake ups we're a regular thing and the tv would settle him, I can see the appeal 😂😂

PurplePansy05 · 07/12/2021 09:37

I woke up today thinking I'm proud that DS survived what is now 18 weeks under my care as a FTM and that he's happy and well, it sounds like an odd thing to say but I honestly didn't know how to care for a little human and felt so petrified to begin with, whereas now I feel we got to know each other better and I can recognise his needs and understand him better. Motherhood is beautiful and hard. xx

BertieBotts · 07/12/2021 12:40

It's a multipack from H&M with I think 3 long sleeve vests :)

Inmypjsagain · 07/12/2021 12:54

@Daffodil21 sorry to hear with the night wake ups. We have dropped all night feeds for a while now (it’s all blurred but at least a month, maybe 6 weeks?) and prior to that we had an 11-midnight feed and a 6am feed, now there’s a 7pm ish and a 7am ish feed. Hope normality resumes for you!

Those mentioning exercising, I started doing couch to 5k but got fed up in the first week of just jogging for 1 minute so just did a slow jog, after first week I was back to doing a 5k but I was quite slow, probably 35 minutes and I’ve only sped up a minute or so since then. It’s hard to get out, especially in this weather. I’ve had no discomfort at all but I’ve been lucky in that I have no pelvic floor issues, a friend didn’t jog for a full year after her baby as she was too leaky. So I guess give it a go and see how you feel?

@BertieBotts love the outfits!!!

And state of the house- I am never on top of the wash, it’s constant. When you clear the clothes then there’s playmats etc to clean. I’m a bit OTT with cleaning so never wanted a cleaner because I thought they wouldn’t be as thorough as we were (lol!) but we have one starting next week. It’s odd get a cleaner was an NCT course recommendation, which was advice I wasn’t expecting 😂

Inmypjsagain · 07/12/2021 12:56

@BertieBotts how do you find h & m top sizing? He’s mostly outgrown the 4-6 months clothes but the jumpers I have in that size fit because they’re long, are the tops long in general?

Daffodil21 · 07/12/2021 13:18

@Inmypjsagain that's brilliant - did you use the method you linked us to on Instagram? Am I getting confused with someone else? 😂 I remember the post saying they're ready if they're not particularly interested in the 6/7am feed, which he wasn't for a while but now he is.

DH said I could sleep in the spare room last night and the night before, even though he has work - I didn't need asking twice! I did feel a bit bad but he can quickly get back to sleep after night feeds and doesn't seem to need as much sleep as me. He's often choosing to stay up later to watch something. But still, I am grateful! I did say he can bring him into me or phone me and I'll come anytime, but thankfully there was only night feed both nights before he had to get up for work anyway.

@PurplePansy05 haven't we all done so well! I almost welled up in the local shop buying a 'daddy' Christmas card for DH 😂 thankfully I managed to hold it together!!!

Daffodil21 · 07/12/2021 13:28

Non FTMs included - juggling more than one must be a challenge!
