Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

Ladies, a question: where do you put your baby during the day, both for naps and just to park them when you’re doing other things?

I know we discussed this a while ago but times have moved on as have our babies’ sizes!

I am a fan of our Sleepyhead (now known as DockTot) but even though Solomon is only 3 months and 9th centile it is a bit small - he can’t stretch out his arms and kick his legs in all directions, which he likes to do, and it’s also not ideal as he likes to sleep with his arms outstretched. I know the point of Sleepyhead is to mimic a womb and so be nice and right but as he’s developed flailing tendencies it’s increasingly not quite right!

We do use a bouncy chair and sometimes use the pregnancy C pillow to prop him up in.

Any other ideas for somewhere for baby to sit or lie and relax while I’m doing other stuff?

I’ve done my back in today so can’t really sit up and definitely can’t pick him up, and it’s feeling very pertinent! We have a babysitter for the day but that’s obviously not a solution regularly…

RandomCatGenerator · 24/11/2021 10:02

*nice and tight, not nice and right

RandomCatGenerator · 24/11/2021 10:03

Oh - we often use the baby gym too including as a place to nap. But not sure it’s the most comfortable for his head.

Daffodil21 · 24/11/2021 11:14

@RandomCatGenerator a combination of the buggy (he's in the upright bit now so he can see what im doing), the jumparoo and the high chair. But he does and has always had a strong neck and good head control (I don't think the jumparoo is recommended until 6 months 😳)

BertieBotts · 24/11/2021 13:30

We have a swing, a playpen with mattress and raised floor (so it's basically a cot but more square), the cotbed in the kids' room that we have put a baby gym in, the c-pillow, a blanket on the floor or I lie him in the middle of the bed. But we hold him to sleep a lot too. The car seat is on the pram wheels at the moment and I've been parking him there a lot for loo trips or to grab things from the kitchen.

I don't think he has enough head control for the jumperoo yet but we do have one somewhere.

lucyrp · 24/11/2021 13:56

@RandomCatGenerator either the carrycot or the the sleepyhead, her crib or the playmat if she falls asleep on there 😂🙈 also use the bouncy chair for plonking, need to look for a high chair

Daffodil21 · 24/11/2021 14:01

Oh yes also still the bath seat when I pop to the loo or do my teeth etc

lucyrp · 24/11/2021 20:43

12 week jabs aren't the one 😭 very unhappy little girly tonight. Taken ages to get to sleep to sleep for 10 minutes then wake up screaming in floods of tears and inconsolable. When she's sleeping it's like she's having a constant nightmare 😭

PurplePansy05 · 24/11/2021 20:57

@RandomCatGenerator Pram (he's been in a stroller seat for a month now), Bjorn bouncer, occasionally the C-pillow on the sofa, but only if one of us is next to him. He always wants to be involved so whatever is easiest to have him with me works best! His current favourite activities are watching mummy have a shower and do her hair. Also loves watching me when I make lunch, particularly fried bacon for a BLT is a hit 🤷🏼‍♀️ xx

@lucyrp We had our 16 weeks one today and he's not a happy bunny either 😔 xx

Hope all the babies who got jabs today are doing ok!
Anyone got one of these?

August 2021 Babies - They Had To Be Gorgeous, Just Look At Us
Daffodil21 · 24/11/2021 21:20

Oh no sorry to hear that @lucyrp and @PurplePansy05. So far DS seems ok. The nurse said to take him to the music sensory class as it might be a good distraction so I took him and he enjoyed it the most he has so far! Maybe the paracetamol helped 😂 he had a good sleep beforehand and woke up naturally just in time. He's currently asleep and hoping tonight will be ok... have a nice clear day tomorrow which is good

lucyrp · 24/11/2021 21:23

@Daffodil21 I was told not to give Calpol before the 12 week ones so I didn't but wish I had 🥺 she's been awful. Whimpering in her sleep constantly when she does actually go to sleep

Daffodil21 · 24/11/2021 21:30

@lucyrp I didn't realise that until I got there and said I'd given it, and then she said it wasn't needed unless he develops a temperature. I'm glad I did give it now although he may have been ok otherwise. Could you give a dose now?

lucyrp · 24/11/2021 21:32

@Daffodil21 I think its because they don't have the men B one at 12 weeks now but they used to. I gave a dose at around 6 which didn't seem to have made a difference but she's been okay for half hour ish now will give another dose now at 10 I think just to be on the safe side. Not looking forward to tonight 🥺

PurplePansy05 · 24/11/2021 21:33

Yeah I agree with @Daffodil21, I'd say give her a dose @lucyrp. The nurse advised me at his 12 week ones to give Calpol if he's in pain (could be from the injection itself).

Thank you @Smurf123 and sorry but I don't have that - is this a posh snot sucker? xx

Daffodil21 · 24/11/2021 21:38

@lucyrp hope your night improves! You too @PurplePansy05 and anyone else with unhappy babies tonight!

Smurf123 · 24/11/2021 21:44

I gave calpol after the 12 week ones regardless of what they said just to make sure she didn't get sore.
@PurplePansy05 yes I think it's supposed to be not sure it works though... was a 4am purchase as I sat upright hold dd for the 3rd night running. She's so snotty she keeps then choking on it and being sick 😫 I've got the calpol vapour plug going too and snufflebabe rub .. it's horrible seeing them under the weather!

PurplePansy05 · 24/11/2021 21:51

@Smurf123 Ahh, I did exactly the same when Leo was poorly. I ended up with his snot all over my breast, charming. I must confess, I hate snot. Let us know if this thing worse & hope Sophia feels better soon. It's really hard to watch when they're poorly, I agree.

Early night here for us, Leo is already asleep and now it's time for me. I bought him a fleece blanket for the pram and it's gorgeous and fluffy, it gives him so much comfort he falls asleep immediately. Best £10 ever spent! xx

Smurf123 · 24/11/2021 22:09

@PurplePansy05 thanks! I'll let you know if I figure it out .. I'm sure it might work if baby's magically kept their head still long enough!
Im in bed feeding Sophia and the police helicopter sounds like it is hovering overhead,. Its noisy despite our closed windows 🙈
We have a similar blanket in our pram Sophia likes it but my ds adored his when he was small, sounds like Leo does too. Ds used to have it in the pram even in summer as he liked to snuggle in to it and wouldn't sleep without it in the pram!

kagerou · 24/11/2021 23:04

Btw big thank you to whoever first mentioned the Huckleberry app on this thread! We are definitely in sleep regression stage and it's been so helpful to see what sets her off

WolfMother326 · 25/11/2021 08:21

@lucyrp we had a terrible time with the 12 week shots too. No fever but baby was crying and clearly in pain, clawing at his head and legs. Calpol helped a lot and he was fine after 36 hours.

Has anyone used infant ibuprofen instead of Calpol? I read a scary study about paracetemol and baby brain development so am thinking of trying the other option for 16 week shots but maybe I'm being silly.

We also seem to be going through a sleep regression. He was sleeping 5 hour stretches now suddenly awake every hour or two all night for several nights. Been learning tons of new skills so it makes sense, but seems early for 4 month regression (he's 14 weeks), but I've read that can happen. Anyone got through a regression yet and seeing better sleep again?

PurplePansy05 · 25/11/2021 09:31

@WolfMother326 I'm positive we're out of it now at 16.5 weeks. Leo also started early, I'm sure it was around the 14 week mark because we've had a difficult fortnight. It didn't seem to affect his night sleep in a sense of broken sleep, but he was awful at falling asleep day and night and just seemed a bit more irritable, fussed at feeds, fussed during the day for no apparent reason. Trying to get him to sleep must have been taking about 4 hours of my life in total every day. We've had a couple of days of marked improvement this week, he is much more settled now. He had one bad day but he was slightly constipated before having a normal poop so I think that was down to discomfort rather than the regression. And now he's sleepy after the jabs, but I'm positive the regression stage here was 2-2.5 weeks' long.

@Smurf123 He now seems to prefer his blanket over the comforter I got him. Just need to watch he doesn't pull it over his face and fall asleep! How is Sophia today? xx

Sorry just catching up on all of yesterday’s.

I know @BertieBotts but I think it’s the other people there who kind of turn it into this 😂 people are literally saying massive things like he’s walking, she said dada etc every single week 🤔 Then theres me like eh not much this week again. I do go to another one where they don’t do anything like that but the woman then doesn’t even know my name or check who’s there from who’s booked because she doesn’t ask, something in between would be ideal 🙈 I went to a smaller one as well where it was only 5 people and you had to share something with the group but it was a lot less formal because people would reply etc and it turned into more just a chat, this one is like a full group of parents and no one says anything back. I’d feel way more comfortable with just a casual chat instead of saying things to the group like we’re at some sort of support meeting 😂

@PurplePansy05 glad I’m not the only one! I don’t even know what our local pools are like temperature-wise these days because I’d never choose to go swimming myself!

@Fran919 The swimming lesson place is the only private pool about but they don’t hire it out by the hour or anything which is annoying 😕

sarah13xx · 25/11/2021 10:03

@RandomCatGenerator I struggle for places to put him sometimes now he’s out the Moses basket. We still have it and even though he’s way too big for it I still put him in sometimes if he’s fell asleep in the car and I just need somewhere to put him in quickly. We’ve got a playmat that’s quite a padded one downstairs so I put him in there if I need to nip somewhere quickly. Just recently he’s started to cry if you put him down and he knows you’re about to walk away. He’ll literally cry til I pick him up again and just wants me to take him everywhere with me (which obviously isn’t possible 🤣). He was never like that as a tiny baby, it’s only just started now. If he’s going for a nap and isn’t asleep yet I usually just take him upstairs now because he knows when he sees the dark room it’s nap time. The only one of the day I don’t do that for though is the nap about 5pm because I’m scared he thinks it’s bedtime and doesn’t wake back up for a bath 😂 So he’s crushed in the Moses basket for that one! Going to have to get him to sleep in the pram or something downstairs as he gets bigger but he screams from the second he gets in the pram until we start going every time so I don’t know how it would work if we didn’t go anywhere 🙈
