Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

@Daffodil21 I managed to get the petrol 😂😂 we’re all clear! Wahoo! I mean I love babies and pregnancy however I’m just not quite ready to do that all again yet!

Hubby will never know 😂😂😂

Daffodil21 · 21/11/2021 10:48

@Jessicapebbles phew, I bet that's a weight off!

Magik01 · 21/11/2021 16:03

@lucyrp could you not use the 20 days added onto the end of your maternity, then use next years holiday entitlement to do 4 days a week for a few weeks? Not sure when your holiday entitlement runs from/too obviously as every company seems to be different!

lucyrp · 21/11/2021 16:06

@Magik01 ours runs from December to December and the only day we close is Christmas Day so id like to book some time off over Christmas if possible and we're looking to book a week holiday in June anyway too so not sure how many days that would leave me with

Daffodil21 · 22/11/2021 15:47

Very quiet on here today, hope everyone is ok!

@Ready2020 and I just had a lovely lunch together. So funny to be talking about our little group in real life!

Inmypjsagain · 22/11/2021 16:40

Thanks for the tips about wooden toys! I think I’m resigned to our place looking kiddy for a while so I’ll just have to get over it!

@WolfMother326 love that photo! Totally gorgeous!

All okay here, been on a walk, sensory class and baby is now resisting a nap. In fact day time naps have been a challenge and last no longer than 40 minutes- I’m sure he’s always overtired now. He still gets a solid sleep at night for now but am worried he’s not sleeping enough, I guess that’s a regression.

Hope everyone alright!

@Daffodil21 very jealous! Hope you guys had a great time 😊

biscuitcat · 22/11/2021 17:21

@Daffodil21 oh lovely! Hope you both had a nice time 😊

We've just been away and when we got back our lovely cat sitter has given us a swim nappy which she found when doing a clear out (her kids are much older now), so lovely and kind of her to think of us, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy 🥰

Ready2020 · 22/11/2021 20:00

Lovely to meet @Daffodil21 and the gorgeous Elliot. Plus we found a cute baby toy as well. We're off home tomorrow so another 4 or 5 hours in the car! I've enjoyed having Granny around as she's a real help and really dotes on DD.

DD met Santa today. As you can see she was well chuffed....

Daffodil21 · 22/11/2021 20:10

@Ready2020 lovely to meet you too! And Rowan 🥰 both were beautifully behaved and we almost managed to eat out lunch with both hands! He's mesmerised by that baby toy!

I have those exact curtains 😂 that picture is hilarious

Daffodil21 · 22/11/2021 20:11

Ohh Bibado have by one get one free on weaning long sleeved weaning bibs if anyone is looking to buy one

sarah13xx · 22/11/2021 21:27

@Ready2020 @Daffodil21 awww how lovely that you met up 😊

I’ve been MIA on here the last few days. Life has just been full on 😂

BertieBotts · 22/11/2021 21:51

We're all sick again Angry people keep sending their kids to nursery ill, we've even had an email about it now because it is getting beyond a joke. He barely goes back for a week before bringing something else home. DH seems to have had it turn into tonsillitis!

PurplePansy05 · 23/11/2021 07:05

Same here, DH was out with his friends on Sat, we were out together on Sun, I'm busy decorating the house for Christmas, nothing fits the way it should just yet - new house problems!

I also wrote a long response before and accidentally deleted the whole thing! But just to say to @RandomCatGenerator that you did really well and don't let the invisible expectations (be it your own or perceived views of others) cloud that. Other people can stick their expectations related to feeding or anything else related to your baby where the sun doesn't shine. It has nothing to do with them.

The official recommendations create this image of a perfect parent IMO, do this for so long, this way and not that way, etc. It's the ideal world though that we all ought to strive for, not necessarily achieve 100% of it. And they're often contradictory. I've definitely fallen a victim of attempting to do everything to the letter because I'm a perfectionist and it's easy for me to set a high standard for myself based on the info I have and then beat myself up if I fall short. Thing is, this doesn't work when it comes to motherhood. There is no science of it and no parameters and now that I'm realising this, it feels both liberating and empowering. So, there - you did your best, if this doesn't feel right anymore, change things up and do your besr again. It's all that matters and be guilt-free about this - you literally are still doing your best for your child and family, always. No one else has your baby or walks in your shoes. xx

Just caught up with the thread, lovely to hear you got together girls @Daffodil21 @Ready2020! And glad you managed to enjoy your lunch in peace Grin

@BertieBotts that's really annoying, hope your boys feel better soon Flowers

We had our first roll from his tummy to his back on Saturday and none since 🤣 Think he's still figuring it out.

Question about storing baby clothes - we still have limited storage atm in the new house. What would you recommend to store Leo's clothes? I'm keeping some if we have more DCs/as keepsakes and really would like to ensure they're in good condition for the next few years xx

RandomCatGenerator · 23/11/2021 14:44

@PurplePansy05 thank you :) this thread has made me feel much better.

Also interested in the question about storing clothes just in case we have another…

Smurf123 · 23/11/2021 14:57

I used the big blue zip up ikea bags even I was storing ds clothes.. I'm just keeping a couple of key pieces now like first outfit, first shoes, knitted clothes from grandparents etc as we are finished at 2.

lucyrp · 23/11/2021 14:57

Omg rang time ..

If you remember back in July/ august time we had a chat about booking places in nursery and I rang the nursery I want DD to go to and the woman said there was no need to book in then and to ring back in December for a place in may / June. So I messaged them today only to be told that they're not sure why I was told that as they're really busy and full up and have a waiting list... and they won't know what availability they'll have until Easter time 😡

Smurf123 · 23/11/2021 15:10

@lucyrp oh no hopefully they can get you sorted. Do you know who you talked to in the summer?
When I contacted the nursery we want dd to go to a few months ago they initially said they wouldn't have a space until July but just last week they have confirmed that they will be able to take her from April

lucyrp · 23/11/2021 15:12

@Smurf123 I have no idea but I was definitely told that as that's why I rang back now! They have said as I'm flexible with what days they can offer I'm likely to be offered a day which is all I need at the moment but they won't know until March time 😬

sarah13xx · 23/11/2021 15:16

I’m really trying with the rolling thing. I’m still having to give him a help over though. You have to say something new your baby has done to the group in the class I go to on a Thursday and everyone seems to have some major milestone to report on every single week. He’s one of the youngest but I’m always sat there thinking he really hasn’t mad any big breakthrough this week. I find myself trying to get him to do stuff just so I have something to tell 😂 more stress than it’s worth that class!

Smurf123 · 23/11/2021 15:20

It's so hard isn't it! Are there any other nurseries you can look at just in case? Though it sounds like they should be able to fit you in hopefully

Smurf123 · 23/11/2021 15:22

@sarah13xx Sophia is no more interested in rolling over 🙈 and shes 17weeks now.. I feel bad that she probably doesn't get as much time lying on the mat as ds did but with reflux, an overenthusiastic dog and a hyper 3 year old it's hard to have her down there for long periods

lucyrp · 23/11/2021 16:20

@sarah13xx I wouldn't worry too much. There's babies at the group I go to that are 5 months + and can't roll over. They all do stuff at different paces. I walked when I was 8 months but some children don't do it until they're well over 12 months!

Daffodil21 · 23/11/2021 16:54

@sarah13xx wow that sounds like a lot of pressure for a baby group! I bet there is development week by week but it's hard to think of 'oh they did xyz this week'. I can't think of anything in particular Elliot has done this week or last week but the he's definitely developed compared to two weeks ago if that makes sense!

We went to our first baby group today. I felt like such an outsider when I walked in. I don't know why but I expected someone to say hello when we got there, but they didn't. Everyone was just sat on the carpet playing with their children, who were all of at least walking age. I thought I'd just feed him and leave when he started to fuss, but he didn't even want a feed he was just too interested in what was going on! He absolutely loved it! He was looking around the entire time (1.5 hours!) and just really happy watching. Eventually I did get chatting to some other girls so all in all I'm glad I went, and I'm glad I didn't leave after ten minutes like I felt like doing. I think 1.5 hours was his limit though as just as we were getting ready to leave he started to fuss, and then conked right out in his push chair!

Yes, lunch was lovely! Certainly didn't expect to meet anyone from here f2f given how far up north we are!
