Dad wanting to take 4 yo daughter on a trip

Hi,

My dh want to take my 4yo daughter on a trip to see his side of family while I will be here with our second born. My mum and dad will be with me to help me out.

I think 4 year is too young for a kid to go on trips without mum. Any opinions?

3 weeks is too long.

dancealittleclosertome · 22/08/2021 08:06

I would say no. You know if he will look after her properly or not. Will he just leave her with other relatives once he gets there so he can hang out with his friends/other family? Why does he want to take her? Why doesn't he just visit alone?

Thurlow · 22/08/2021 08:06

Of course it’s fine. He’s her Dad, not someone she’s never met before Hmm

Moonflower12 · 22/08/2021 08:07

India is off the red list at the moment but could return to it anytime. Would she cope cooped up in a hotel room for 10 days? Think Travelodge rather than The Ritz.

Sittinginthesand · 22/08/2021 08:13

Thurlow - it’s 3 weeks, in India, during covid, she’s 4, OP has a younger child too! Why not wait and all go next year.
If I was OP I’d also be pissed off at missing out on the trip myself! Why should the dh get to go and not OP. I’d want this to be a family trip.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 22/08/2021 08:15

Not India - not now. What if the borders close again because of a new covid surge? What if her Dad gets sick - or she does?

Milkbottlelegs · 22/08/2021 08:17

In the current climate I’d say no. Things can change so quickly in any country.

PeonyTime · 22/08/2021 08:39

DH took a then 4 yr old on a similar, but 10 day, trip many years ago.
The following year his little brother demanded his trip aged 3!
DH had also looked after them alone from younger than that when I travelled with work (a couple of weeks a year).
If DH is an involved parent, of course it's fine. Whether it should be done in a pandemic is another question.

Knittingupastorm · 22/08/2021 08:39

3 weeks in India is quite a big drip feed in the current circumstances.
I wouldn’t be happy with that, not because I think 4 is too young for the planned trip necessarily, but because of the risk of India going on to the red list. I have no idea how high that risk is, but I wouldn’t want my 4 year old in a quarantine hotel (not to mention the additional costs of it).

Whywhenwhat · 22/08/2021 08:44

Huge drip feed.
No, 3 weeks in India with all that is happening with Covid at the moment is too much.

MindyStClaire · 22/08/2021 08:46

No way would I be ok with that. Anything up to a week I'd be fine with, and not abroad at the minute in case of travel restrictions changing. Three weeks in India? No fucking way.

Ozberry · 22/08/2021 08:46

I wouldn’t travel to India at all at the moment. I love India but the Covid situation being what it is, I’d wait. Plus, it’s a hell of a flight for a 4y child, and expensive- a lot to lose if they end up in quarantine or sick.

ChaBishkoot · 22/08/2021 08:51

I just took the kids to India for 2 weeks without their dad! Got back yesterday. COVID rates in India are not what they were and having not been home since 2019 I grabbed my chance. I didn’t get to see my mum before she died and my dad is old so we went. I know plenty of Indian friends using the summer to make the trip before the predicted October/November surge. I stayed at home- big garden, plenty of place for the kids to run around. (I flew from the US and so am in quarantine for a bit).
DH didn’t go because actually the COVID situation in the US isn’t great and he’s a physician working with COVID patients and he felt he couldn’t go and leave his patients and colleagues. (And his parents live with us, not in India).

Frankly the COVID risk in Florida at the moment is higher than in India…
And DH who is a doctor and an epidemiologist was entirely happy with the decision to go to India now.

Oh if you mean now, with Covid I would not be happy with it at all.

Are you UK based OP? That seems to be the assumption from those saying definitely not if going to India.
I don't think that 4yrs is necessarily too young to go without mum, but with the current uncertainty of lockdown etc I wouldn't be happy to be separated from my child.

ChaBishkoot · 02/09/2021 19:43

What thread?? That does not link to anything. Jesus. My mother died in 2019. Maybe for the purposes of a thread (on who knows what) I changed the details from one parent to another. My poor father is well and alive. Lives on his own in India. And was quite pleased to see me. What did my dad die of btw?!

ChaBishkoot · 02/09/2021 19:47

@Perroquet Please find this mythical thread. (And I might be able to explain the context). Otherwise it might be that you owe me an apology. It’s a horrible thing to say.

CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind · 02/09/2021 19:53

According to the thread linked your dad died of cancer. Pretty low to make that up! I don't think you changed the parent, because according to the thread linked both your parents are dead. My mum died of cancer, I wish it wasn't true but it is and it's out of order to lie about something like that.

User5827372728 · 02/09/2021 19:56

My 4 year old goes away for the weekend with their dad quite often and I stay home with the youngest!

I spend way more time with him so it’s great for them to get some fun bonding 1-1 time.

Cocopogo · 02/09/2021 19:58

It depends how her relationship is with him. If she’s just going to cry every night for you then definitely not. If she’s absolutely fine with him and excited to go then yes why not

ChaBishkoot · 02/09/2021 19:59

Huh? What thread. It doesn’t link to ANY thread. My mother died of lung cancer. COPD.
My dad is alive. This is what I get.
Can you please take a screenshot of my comments?? Thanks.
