Hi!

I can't find a thread for breastfeeding chat; so thought I'd start one.

I'm a new Mum to Jac (10/4/19) and he's my first baby. I haven't made it to a local breastfeeding group yet, so would love the chance to chat here. It was a difficult start and I still have so many questions...

Anyone want to join? Introduce yourself - I'd love to hear from you 😁

Hi have just found you all and caught up on thread. 8 mths into breastfeeding my first. Had some difficult days when I really wondered if I could do it. Had some good advice which was to take one day at a time and when it was really tough to just think I would get through the current day and see how I felt the next day as to whether I really did want to give up.

I can recommend the Kellymom website which has loads of factsheets on anything and everything you might come up against, especially in the early days - kellymom.com/category/ages/

@PeaOp thanks for the link. I've shared it with a group of breastfeeding peer supporters

Just wanted to grump, we’ve had a horrible cluster day from 0130 this morning.... and I was unfortunately visiting relatives so the drive home was horrendous as I had to keep stopping (it took double my usual time). But on the positive, baby is getting weighed again shortly so fingers crossed it’s another stable gain (rather than drop).

And hello to everyone Grin

lookingatthings · 07/05/2019 04:09

Shoutout to anyone awake. M has just taken 2 hrs to settle and now I can't get back to sleep. Looking forward to tomorrow ehen DH is back at work and I can camp out in bed.

Llondbol · 07/05/2019 04:50

@lookingatthings hey,,. Hope you've managed to get to sleep. Was just coming on here for a rant myself! DS has been deeding/burping since 3am... coming up to two hours and DH's alarm goes off of an hour 😭 Nights like this are so tough

I struggle to go back to sleep after the 5am feed by the time she’s fed and winded it’s 6, DP will be getting up for work then I have DS to get up at 7 to sort out for school. Today is my first back to normal day after baby so need to try and get in some routine. Also have health visitor today and a friend coming over so no time to nap x

Lilsquish · 07/05/2019 06:52

Thanks for all the responses/advice.

Comforting to know that this might be a tempprary problem.

DD didnt settle til 2am, after huge amounts of feeding and then eventually being rocked by DH.

however she then slept until now so thats not bad.

hope everyone has a good day and manages to fit some naps in.

lookingatthings · 07/05/2019 06:59

@Llondbol so hard. I got maybe 45 Mins before he woke up wanting another feed. Doesn't help that I have a stinking cold too.
I feel like crying! Has your DS settled yet?

@Creas35 that's such a busy day! Mums of more than 1 are honestly superheros in my eyes. I'm only just holding it together with M. I hope you're friend brings you lots of cake today.

DobbysLeftSock · 07/05/2019 09:58

Urgh joining in the "I'm tired" chorus this morning. Dd has a bit of a cold and she's been coughing in the night and waking herself up, so had her in bed with me for most of last night. Upside - could just plonk her on boob next to me, at least I wasnt trying to settle her and make a bottle etc. Just about to go back to bed with her for her post schoolrun feed and hope we can both nap!

avocadoincident · 08/05/2019 06:46

Nice little info graphic about top up feeds:

SnuggyBuggy · 08/05/2019 06:49

Just noticed this thread. I'm coming up to a year, gruesome start with bloody nipples and then horrendous cluster feeds but since then it's been so easy and convenient. Feel a bit like a cliche Grin

citybumpkin · 08/05/2019 06:57

Hey! 6 weeks of feeding my little one here. We went to a La Leche League meeting recently which was great. Also looking to go to a local BF clinic to see a lactation consultant to see if we can improve things. That being said DD has gained nearly 3lbs since birth so I think we are going in the right direction.

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2019 07:31

@avocadoincident yeah, I can completely see the truth behind this now. Our baby hasn’t been getting any bottles during the night. She feeds every 2 hours and is satisfied (my boobs feel full too- so they are used to this pattern). During the day, she gets bottles and boobs never seem to be enough.

however, it’s so tough waking every 1 or 2 hours to feed! 😞 have the breastfeeding support group tomorrow 👍

how often is everyone else feeding? Sounds like a few people are quite a lot. Hope you had better nights sleep last night x

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2019 08:20

I’m guessing the regular feeding is normal. I don’t want to complain! Baby is getting fed anyway 😊 xx

SnuggyBuggy · 08/05/2019 08:25

They can feed really frequently at first but I found mine eventually got bigger and could feed more quickly and take more at a time which was when it started getting less frequent.

JLB7 · 08/05/2019 08:29

@BeHereNowx32 we are here with you at feeding every two and a half hours! 🙋🏻‍♀️

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2019 09:47

@JLB7 good to know 😂 had to give her a bottle this morning. I’m so sore! Ripped open the nipple shields I have but then realised I need to wash them first 🙈 will try next time.

Amazing how people EBF 💗

Creas35 · 08/05/2019 11:39

We are every 2 hours probably twice we get 3 hours. She is a feeding / pooping machine !! Oh the joys!! X

Since2016 · 08/05/2019 11:45

DD is 13 weeks tomorrow. She now feeds at night usually once around 3ish, goes down at 9 and then wakes at 6 for a feed. But her sister was a totally different story - still feeding every 2 hours at this point!

lookingatthings · 08/05/2019 11:58

M is 7w and every two hours during the day, then every three from 11pm - 9am. Its brutal, but he's gaining fantastically and is such a happy, beautiful babe that it's all worth it Grin

lookingatthings · 08/05/2019 12:02

He has stopped popping every day though, and grunts / strains when he does. He's not constipated as when it does come it's the usual consistency. I've read that this is completely normal for his age but was wondering if anyone had any real life stories to put my mind at ease: Im how often did your 7+w ebf babies poop?

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2019 12:48

@lookingatthings I do feel more relaxed today actually and just so grateful that baby is doing well.
LO is now only pooing every 3 days or so. They are very big poo explosions when they happen tho! Xx

avocadoincident · 08/05/2019 13:37

@SnuggyBuggy we are at year too. T
