Hey guys! Thought I'd start a new page for everyone to join and share our pain and pleasures of having a new baby. I've added a lot of people in from the other groups but sorry if I forgot anyone!
And again congratulations on your beautiful babies!

@desertmmaa1 @ahardma88 @Blgb @VixenAndCub Massive congratulations! Sorry I missed your news.

This is a great idea @Blgb. How's everyone adjusting to life with a newborn? Xx

desertmama1 · 23/04/2019 11:13

Hello! Thank you for creating the group 😊 always nice to have support in the early days!
I'm doing alright. How's everyone else? X

Blgb · 23/04/2019 14:59

I'm doing ok, DP had him for most of the night last night so I could get a proper nights sleep. (The first in 5 nights) now I feel like I'm ready to tackle life unlike yesterday where I just cried and wondered why I would do this to myself 😂
We've decided to call him Rhian (ree-an) after DP late father Ian.
Hope everyone else is ok

Oh bless your DP. Sleep makes all the difference! We've adopted a routine of going to bed for her 7pm (ish) feed and then starting there through to her 10am (ish) one. It doesn't leave us with a lot of day to play with but at least we can make the most of sleeping when she does!

Blgb · 23/04/2019 17:22

Yeah it's hard to get a plan isn't it. We're gonna do half a night each starting tonight. He's doing almost 3oz every 2-2.5 hours, greedy bugger!

Thanks for creating the group. Congrats everyone on the babies. Mine is 10 days old today and we are going for the tongue tie snip. Ouch!

ChaosMoon · 24/04/2019 09:33

Aw, I hope it goes well today @FinallyGotAnIPhone. I take it your LO having trouble latching?

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 24/04/2019 10:48

They told us he had a tongue tie at the hospital when he was born and referred us to get it cut. He does latch on and I am feeding him (not helped my nipples at all!! Ouch!) but he can’t open his mouth very wide so hopefully will be better when he has had the procedure. No experience of tongue tie so don’t really know.

ChaosMoon · 24/04/2019 17:36

I hope it went ok @FinallyGotAnIPhone,: and that his latch gets less painful now.

Just been signed off by the midwife. I was hoping to get some more breast feeding advice but, of course, she latched perfectly and without drama when she had an audience. Typical!

trampolinebouncer · 24/04/2019 19:17

Just jumping in to this thread, nice to catch up now we are on the other side. My DS will be 3 weeks tomorrow, BF is painful & got referred today for possible tongue tie so will see what happens. We have just been signed of by the MW as it has taken a while to get to birth weight but made it now.
@ChaosMoon Have you got a HV visit booked? I was sceptical of mine, but her BF advise was really good.

Hope everyone else is ok & enjoying this newborn stage.

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 25/04/2019 09:21

Well- we went to get the tongue tie sorted yesterday and long story short they determined he didn’t have a tongue tie after all. All a bit strange. On a positive note I’m on day 11 now and boobs are toughening up. Midwife coming today so I’m hopeful he’ll be back at his birthweight and we can get signed off too.

In other news - some nights are tricky as he doesn’t always settle after a feed and I’m exhausted!! Par for the course I know.

Ahardma88 · 26/04/2019 22:44

@FinallyGotAnIPhone have to admit I forgot the nipple pain from my first and everytime I feed I wince as she latches on. Who ever said bf doesn't hurt lies, just waiting for the nips to toughen up.
Has anyone used one of the next to me crib?

desertmama1 · 27/04/2019 14:54

Yup my right nipple is soooo painful but slowly toughening up. I'm putting on lots of Lasinoh cream and at times some coconut oil. It seems to be working 😬

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 28/04/2019 09:00

Think I’m finally out the other side with the nipples but feeding still a bit of a challenge as he’s very fussy at the breast at some feeds.
Will soldier on!

ChaosMoon · 29/04/2019 06:38

@trampolinebouncer the HV was lovely but same problem as with the midwife. She's such an angel during the day that it's hard for them to advise about when it all goes wrong at night. I think we're going to get a consultant for the nights.

I've got a Next To Me @Ahardma88. Though I must confess, she's been sleeping in our bed... (Following all the safe sleeping guidelines from the lullaby trust.) It makes me feel safer that she'll just end up in that of she rolls though!

We're building her up at being in the during the day, so hopefully we'll be able to transition her into it sooner rather than later!

Blgb · 02/05/2019 14:45

Hey guys not posted in a week, we're not doing too bad on the nights, he goes to sleep 10.30-11 and then wakes once in the night and then about 6.30, hoping once the DP goes back to work next week he'll kind of stick to it.
Don't know how I'm gunna get anything done during the day thou when he goes back lol. When exactly do you shower and do the washing when they're been wingey? 😂

Buttons28 · 03/05/2019 08:21

Does anyone remember that thing called "sleep"? Also what day is it?

@Blgb I have yet to figure out how to get normal everyday things done also.

I just can't stop looking at my amazing beautiful baby and thinking how worth it it all is 😍

Hope everyone is doing well x

Blgb · 05/05/2019 08:56

Anyone got any tips on how to prevent the post bottle kick off? He takes it fine and winds well but then will not settle. He's fine during the day but on a night a nightmare. Took 2 hours to settle him last night after a bottle, and ended with him in our bed. Then 2 hours later he was up again for another bottle.
I know it's probably not just me suffering 😂
I don't know whether he's getting cold but he kicks all his blankets off!

OP posts:
trampolinebouncer · 05/05/2019 16:20

@Blgb maybe offer a tiny bit more if he doesn't settle & has winded well - to sleep they want to feel full & it's like they panic if put down & still hungry.

May not be the answer- but worth a try.

ChaosMoon · 11/05/2019 07:17

That's so fitting after he was sleeping so we'll @Blgb.

I'm breast feeding, so I don't know how much DD has in a feed. My approach is as @trampolinebouncer said though. Not happy? Offer more to eat. You never know when they might be going through a growth spurt or something and just need a little more.

ChaosMoon · 11/05/2019 08:07

I don't @Buttons28 - what was this "sleep" you speak of?

Does anyone else feel like Mumsnet was a luxury of their former life? Getting time to post, when I'm awake and coherent enough to do so, is impossible!

Blgb · 11/05/2019 11:30

He seems to have settled a bit better now, think it was wind, even thou he gets some up, moved onto Infacol before each feed and he seems better. Maybe if he didn't guzzle it so fast he would be ok 😂
Everyone else doing ok?

Hi everyone, been following the thread but never posted. DD is 6 weeks on Wednesday and has come down with a cold (stuffy nose, coughing etc) has anyone else experienced this yet/ have any advice? Have been elevating her cot, using saline drops and have a nasal aspirator arriving today. She started Saturday night but no temp so I’m assuming no need to take her to the gp unless it gets worse?

39Suzy · 21/05/2019 11:40

@firsttimemumma123 try Olbas oil on a cottin pad close to them. My little on has just got over a cold and this definitely helped the sniffles
