July 2007 - yet starting in June!

Well, I can't see a post natal July 2007 thread, so will start this, even though Charlotte, my DD was born 4.5 weeks early in June. I'm sure the other July ladies will be along soon enough.

Have had 2 nights at home now. Yesterday afternoon was fairly distressing as Charlotte wouldn't latch on, and if she did she wouldn't suck. But have got loan of electric pump from hospital, and support from midwives and now managing with comination of breast, expressed and formula milk, sometimes all three in the same feed. Finding it quite emotional, with all the issues associated with feeding one's baby, but trying to stay calm as found out yesterday that getting self into a state doesn't help anyone.

Dh has just gone out to get some things we're still missing, and I'm putting my feet up for a bit. Phil & Ted has just arrived so we might try a stroll down to the ante natal class tonight!

Any how, hope there are lots of lovely birth stories to come from July ladies, and that we can swap advice, give each other moral support etc over the coming weeks and months.

CSB - check your email I've just sent you a CAT

ChubbyScotsBurd · 20/09/2007 16:00

Thanks Jennster - think i have to subscribe to receive it but can't find my card will go have another look shortly ... quick Q for you guys - I've put LO in cot in dark room because he's refused to sleep any other way all day. He's now shouting - not crying as such, just shouting out, I know he's distressed. What do I do in these situations ... go in/wait until he's howling/pick him up/pat him/leave him?

I just don't KNOW! This motherhood thing totally sucks ass sometimes. So HARD!

Jennster · 20/09/2007 16:30

CSB go to my mumsnet and pick email options. Just check it says you will allow other mn to CAT you. You don't have to subscribe to receive them. I sent 2 the other day to the same person and they only got one, so will try again.

OK I've sent another CAT. Don't know how long they take to go through to your email though.

theprecious · 20/09/2007 17:36

I usually pick up ds as soon as he starts whinging, that way I can head off a major tantrum. So I'd go in and jog him round a bit to see if he'll go back to sleep. If he doesn't go back to sleep then when he's calmed down I'd put him in his bouncy chair and bounce him. DP has put a mobile with those black and white pictures above his bouncy chair and ds really likes looking at them.

Jennster · 20/09/2007 18:08

Had DS weighed for the first time since I was discharged by the midwife at 11 days. He had his 8 week injections too..................................

How good is this...8lb3oz at birth, and 13lb2oz at 8 weeks. 5lb in 8 weeks! No wonder he's busting 3-6 month vests...(Lesson to be learned don't buy cheap supermarket ones unless you buy the next size up)

My boobies are awesome.

Myfairone · 20/09/2007 18:10

Hello all, I haven't posted in a while because I had the 'houseguests from hell'! Long story short, the INLAWS turned up, parked their behinds on the sofa and didnt move for an entire week!!! I feel like I have been held prisoner in my own home.

Every time I suggested an outing their answer was 'no, we have just come to see the baby'!!!! arghghghghg....

Here are a list of complaints:

  1. FIL got up every time I breastfed in the night (apparently he is an insomniac with verbal diarrhea)
  2. Didnt want to eat out but were quite happy for me to cook...always prempted by 'no we don't want to put you out! WELL WTF ARE YOU GOING TO EAT THEN!
  3. A whole host of annoying comments, mainly 'breastfeeding is so much messing about I dont know why you don't just stick him on the bottle.....to which I answered, 'because I enjoy it'! That got me 'the look'!

I am soooooooooooooooo happy they have gone home, I cant begin to tell ya!

I feel free as a bird now.....

Hope you are all well and bubs are growing nicely.

Big hugs to all

First period post baby
(TMI MOMENT)
Started taking Cilest three weeks after DS birth as advised. As usual I forgot to take a few. (Really need implant putting in) anyway AF arrived on Sunday. 5 weeks after the birth. Now I am used to light to average flow. (Mini - Regular tampons) This is rididculous. Every time I fed DS last night I had to change a SUPER tampon. That is about every 4 hours. This morning I was changing the super ones every 90 minutes. WEnt to Tesco to get Super plus. I'm changing them every 4 hours. Is this normal? Got Super plus EXTRA for night times. How long will this last and should I start the pill again at weekend after 7 days free or wait for bleeding to stop (If it does)

Cakehead · 20/09/2007 20:43

Ooh Typhoonsmum - that seems fast. I've still not had a visit from AF and LO is three months next week. And I never breastfed. Now wondering if there's any chance I'm pregnant. Surely not. You have to have sex for that, right?

Jennster · 20/09/2007 21:10

Typhoons - Are you breastfeeding? Wanting to or trying to get it started again? Sorry I can't remember, but if you are bf then Cilest aint the best contraceptive. Also you will NOT be covered and need to use a sheath method if you don't want to get pregnant, having only taken pill for 2 weeks.

I believe your flow can get heavier after having a baby, but it might be because you are on a combined (as opposed to progesterone only) pill AND breastfeeding. Combined pill can also reduce your milk production.

Is your lo feeding much more than normal (6 week growth spurt)? If so that can increase your flow.

typhoonsmum · 21/09/2007 07:46

I was breastfeeding but stopped when he was about two weeks old. He has been on formula since. I'll see how it goes today.

catstar · 21/09/2007 09:30

Typhoonsmum - like you I stop breastfeeding quite early on and have just started on the pill. I started my first proper AF two days ago and have been taken by surprise by the amount of "flow" too! I checked this out with a few friends and all seemed to have experienced the same sort of thing, but I may mention it to my health visitor just for extra peace of mind. It's almost as much as just after the birth!!!

I ahven't been on MN for ages and am trying to catch up with the whole thread, but hope everyone is generally doing well!

Caroline1852 · 21/09/2007 10:33

Am I the only southerner on this thread?
Good news. Oscar slept all night for the first time last night - from 10.30 pm til 7am. He has gone from waking up 3 times a night to twice to once now none in 4 days so those of you still being disturbed several times at night, take heart. It can all change in a flash .
Not sure what to moan about now!
I am still swaddling at 8 weeks.

typhoonsmum · 21/09/2007 13:12

Thanks Catstar. So this is normal then.
Not even ventured near sex so the pill being a contraceptive isn't an issue at the moment. Have intended to but James was so unsettled with colic everytime I went to bed I just slept while I could. Since he has been on OMNEO COMFORT he is a different child and I have managed to have three evenings with him asleep upstairs and me and DP downstairs. Even managed to get a bath with the massage spa DP bought me for christmas but I couldn't use as I was pregnant (not sure why but the instructions said not to) It was like having a mini jacuzzi in your own bath! Sex is now being put off by this horrendous period! Should I start the pill again tommorrow after my seven day break or wait till bleeding stops.

Cakehead · 21/09/2007 13:56

Caroline, I'm a Sarf London girl myself, so there's at least two of us southerners on here... Any more?

theprecious · 21/09/2007 16:04

I'm sarf london too..... I thought I was the only one, it seems to be the only area without a meet up.

3 poncey southerners.

ds waking up once at night, if I can make him last till 8pm before going to bed. If not it's twice. Am still swaddling at nearly 11 weeks and probably will be for a long time yet!

Hi All- hope everything is well. Very envious if your LO is sleeping through! Mine does between 5 and 6 hours first stint but after that it can be every one or two hours! Plus she 'gets up' at 5am. Absolutely impossible to get her back down after then. She'll fall asleep on me though!!

How early can babies start teething? LO is 2 months old now and the last few days shes been blowing lots of bubbles and been dribbly- plus starting chewing her bottom lip over her gums. She also is constantly munching on her hands and has been really unsettled! I doubt it is teething yet but I dread to imagine what it will be like when it happens!!

How quickly is time going?? Can't believe it was 2 months ago LOs were being born. I guess for some of you its more like 3 months!
Time flies when you're having fun hey !

Has anyone been to an NCT Nearly new sale? Theres one down the road from us tomorrow and I wondered if it was worth a visit?

X

We've had the Dribble Tap just turned on as well, but it's not teething (at least, in our case it isn't). All of sudden, LO is just drooling and I've had to go out to buy bibs which she has to be in pretty much all day. Remember this bit from DD1. It's like their saliva just kicks into overdrive. I thought with DD1 that it must be teeth, but she didn't cut her first tooth until she was one (very late, I know). But same is happening with LO right now - just constant drool and chewing on her fingers, but no signs of teeth. We teeth late in our family though, so you might have some little pearlies coming through soon...

Cakehead · 21/09/2007 21:37

Ooh and meant to add, if you think your LOs are about to teeth (and it could be any time from now, in theory) stock up on the teething powders they sell in Boots. Ashton and Pearsons, I think they're called. Just have them in the cupboard in case you find yourself with a hellish night and no relief to hand. Dentinox gel was good too, and Bonjela, obviously. Just be prepared.

My DD1 is still teething at the moment - at 2 years old - her canines are coming in and it's still a pain in the a**. She cries out in her sleep and wants to bite things. Or is that normal? I dunno...

i think my lo is teething and have been using bonjella. He is unsettled and chewing hands etc. You can see where his teeth are going to come. He is 11 weeks I apparently cut my first tooth at three months.
