July 2007 - yet starting in June!

Well, I can't see a post natal July 2007 thread, so will start this, even though Charlotte, my DD was born 4.5 weeks early in June. I'm sure the other July ladies will be along soon enough.

Have had 2 nights at home now. Yesterday afternoon was fairly distressing as Charlotte wouldn't latch on, and if she did she wouldn't suck. But have got loan of electric pump from hospital, and support from midwives and now managing with comination of breast, expressed and formula milk, sometimes all three in the same feed. Finding it quite emotional, with all the issues associated with feeding one's baby, but trying to stay calm as found out yesterday that getting self into a state doesn't help anyone.

Dh has just gone out to get some things we're still missing, and I'm putting my feet up for a bit. Phil & Ted has just arrived so we might try a stroll down to the ante natal class tonight!

Any how, hope there are lots of lovely birth stories to come from July ladies, and that we can swap advice, give each other moral support etc over the coming weeks and months.

hope your week does work out to be relaxing WC. I'd love to be able to get some of the stuff sorted that didn't get done pre-baby, but it ain't going to happen for a while. What with various appointments for me & C this week and all the feeding that's to be done I think that'll be our time taken up. Off to bed for me now though, to get some quality sleep in while DH watches C.

I finally found the elusive Post Natal thread. Just want to say CONGRATS to you all. It will prob be about another 6 weeks or so b4 I join you. (Not due for another 4 weeks and I know I'll be late. - Not as lucky as you)
Try and find a nice corner for me and keep it warm. I'll be there eventually

Thanks JAM - taking C out this morning and then MW visit at lunchtime for weigh in Not sure if she'll have out any on put I do realyy really hope so. The morning visit is for this cranio sacral therapy that one of the MWs recommended. Unsure if it'll help at the moment, but got to worth a try, surely?

J has regained his birthweight! Possibly more to do with the feeding frenzy I persuaded him to join in with just before the health visitor turned up but hey...it keeps the medics happy!

Hope everyone's doing ok xx

Jamantha · 28/06/2007 16:22

Not so bad thanks WC. Had first day at home on my own today as DH went back to work. Managed fairly well, despite some HORRENDOUS nappies. Got a feeling I shan't be drinking orange juice for a while. C fed well overnight, been a bit grisly today, but is asleep at moment...

Hello all,
Evie is sleeping really well at night at the mo (last night 11 till 3.45, then 4.30 till 7) but in the day she has really broken naps. Don't get me wrong, I do prefer it this way, but wondered why this would be? All I can think is that at night I have been swaddling her but haven't in the daytime? Do you think this will be a problem when the weather gets really hot?

Jamantha · 05/07/2007 12:20

hi berrysmum, my Lo is much the same. Yesterday had decent sleeps between feeds through the day, but often it's little naps, which unfortunately means she's too tired to bother with a decent feed, which means she's not full enough to settle into a decent sleep, and so it goes on. Usually find that by late afternoon hunger catches up and she feeds massively and then we get a good routine through evening and night. It can be a pain though, can't it?

OP posts:
Jamantha · 05/07/2007 12:21

have missed the news about birth of evie though - when was she born?

OP posts:
pulapula · 05/07/2007 12:25

Hi Berrysmum,

I didn't realise you'd had your baby as you are still listed as 'still waiting'. When did Evie arrive and what weight was she? Was it all ok, as she was a bit early?

I have read that some low birthweight/premi babies only nap 30 mins at a time in the day and need to feed more often, so if that's the case, maybe its normal for Evie to do what she's doing?

Ben has also been sleeping better at night - similar to Evie - but does also sleep for 1.5-2 hour naps in the day. We swaddle him for every sleep, and if/when it gets hot, we'll just use less clothing/bedding.

madmumNika · 07/07/2007 22:49

Hello everyone, can I join in please?

Posted on the antenatal Due in July thread- our little girl Mairi Lee was born on 26th June, weighing 5lb 8oz. She was born at 36+2 wks by emergency c-section due to pre-eclampsia... spent a week on the neonatal unit as she was a bit 'grunty' after her birth and so needed a little help, but was then allowed onto the ward with me and 24hrs later after proving that she was feeding ok we were both allowed home (on Thurs- 5th July). I've had a bit of a battle getting her to breastfeed, and have ended up using nipple shields, but she seems to be doing ok...being weighed tomorrow so fingers crossed she has started to gain weight as she was down to 5lb 1oz when we left the hospital. She is certainly filling nappies so must be getting a fair bit!

Poor DS is taking a while to get used to having a baby in the house...and wants to climb on me whenever I'm feeding Mairi... But I was in hospital for 2 weeks so not surprised he's clingy bless him.

Will try to catch up on all your news soon!

Much love to all & babes xxx

Jamantha · 08/07/2007 06:25

Hi madmum, glad to see others joining this thread (though have been using June post natal as well). Congratulations on your new daughter!! Hope BF continues OK. It is hard at first, but I have found it gets better with a bit of perseverence. It's a learning curve. Mind I've been lucky in no sore nips etc. My DD took three weeks to regain her birth weight BTW, so if yours hasn't gained, or hasn't gained much, to begin with try not to despair too much. That's about all the advice I can offer at the moment as we're just 3 weeks into this "game". Not quite loving every minute of it (the 3 hour colic-related screaming fits in the evenings aren't popular, just bought some infacol yesterday and went dairy free so fingers crossed...) but wouldn't be without her for the world.

berrysmum · 08/07/2007 21:24

Hi all. Sorry it's been a fair few days - where has all my spare time gone?!! She arrived on Wed 27th so 9 days early and was 6lb 14oz. Hasn't lost any weight though, is now 7lb 5oz! She sometimes can down a full 5oz feed, but other times will only have 3. The night times have been fairly ok up until last night when she absolutely screamed the house down at 1.30am for no apparent reason and then stayed awake until 3. I wonder if that was colic or if she had a tummy ache as she did a huge poo straight afterwards. I think she gets a bit of colic in the evenings as she sometimes fights me off and has her mouth open as if rooting but spits out bottle and dummy. It's so exasperating, just don't know what to do for her when she does it.
Hope your lo's all being good for you. May be a few days till I can post again - dh back at work tomorrow - scary!!!

Hi ladies,
A quickie from me before I demolish the rest of my (post-birth medicinal)Revels! Can I join?!
Eva arrived Sun/Mon morning at 2.16am. Weighed 6lb13oz. Birth went better than I expected/feared. Saw my notes today and second stage was 11mins (she did bounce on the bed... eek).
Look forward to continuing the great camaraderie and support from the AN thread over here.
Really hope everyone is doing well, and will be on to catch up properly soon.

pulapula · 13/07/2007 17:12

Hello all new mums,

Hope you are all coping well with your new little bundles and getting to know them.

I am a bit concerned that Ben sleeps a bit too much- I shouldn't complain really, but he wakes, feeds, falls asleep during feed, cries when having nappy changed, whinges a bit and then we get him back to sleep as we assume he's tired. Sometimes he doesn't settle or takes a while to fall asleep with dummy. Sometimes he just feeds and we put him back to bed as he's tired. We don't really have much wakey wakey time and he's now 17 days old. Are your LOs more alert? I think I worry about him getting overtired so encourage more sleep. Any advice? or should i just be grateful?!

Jamantha · 13/07/2007 17:32

pulapula - sounds about par for the course from my experience with Charlotte, and she's a month old now and still sleeping pretty much most of the time that she's not feeding or whinging. I spoke to HV at clinic today when she got weighed (another gain - 3.4 kg now, up from 3.18 last week ) as we were worried that we weren't doing anything in the way of playing with her, but she's not awake enough to do that at the moment. She said at this age it's normal that all they need is food, changing and cuddles, and that doing that and talking/singing to her is enough.

OP posts:
pulapula · 13/07/2007 17:55

Thanks for the reassurance Jamantha.

Also as Charlotte is a bit older, did you experience a growth spurt around 2-3 weeks? Ben seems a bit fussy today but trying to stick to 3 hourly feeds in day (2 hourly in evening), but wondered if he's getting hungrier?

Jamantha · 13/07/2007 18:17

Yes, at least I think so. She had static weight (after the post-birth loss) for about 2 weeks and then piled a load on quite quickly.

Having said we don't play with her, she was alert after her last feed and so I tried playing with her rattle, and she definitely seemed interested in the noise it makes. She can't manage to hold it herself but stopped idly looking about for a couple of minutes to listen to it's sound, then she'd had enough and wanted a cuddle and a snooze again.

OP posts:
Jamantha · 14/07/2007 21:07

Seems really quiet around here. Are the July babies all keeping us waiting, or are they keeping everyone busy so that nobody can get onto MN?
