Lizzz - that's a top idea! and didn't i tell you DJ was a genius?

well my baby can drink from his Tomme Tippee cup (woo hoo! think i will give up on the feckin bottles now!) and also plays peekaboo with himself in the mirror on his baby gym! it's fab. keeps him amused for...oh, minutes at least!

Lizzzombie · 14/05/2007 17:51

Cool that Z can take a cup! which one are you using?

DJ is already starting to be able to hoover in his own special way...when he is on his tummy he seems to breath in more dust (I am manically hoovering daily at the moment) so his boegies are huge and black!
He is like a baby noo noo!

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2007 18:16

I know, I know, I should hoover as if I was jane fonda. Slattern I am! It's the floors I hate most, cleaning all the floorboards, although, I did hire one when I was busier, just haven't let her go yet, ahem

Drinking from cups, about to crawl, what a lot of genius babies on this thread, must be all the baby einsteins

Shimmer · 14/05/2007 18:36

Urrrr Freddie's not drinking from a cup or about to crawl and I bet he watches more baby einstein than anyone. He has recently become very good at a sort of high pitched squealing when he's annoyed though.

theUrbanDryad · 14/05/2007 18:44

it's the Tommee Tippee one with the knobbly spout. it says From 3 months on it though i'm sceptical. he likes it though. tries to hold it himself. tis very cute....

Wilkie · 14/05/2007 19:02

Hi chatterboxes

MrsCarrot - you lucky lucky lady at having a cleaner. I actually love housework but just don't find the time to do it. My house is generally tidy but quite dusty!

Lizz - your boy is a child genius!! J has never rolled since his freakish roll at about 11 weeks although he does try. However, he sat up all by himself for 15 secs today - I got a pic which I will upload but he looks like he's got no legs!

UD - did GMTV respond?

EAH - where are you today??!?!?!!

Well, I had a major cook off today. My freezer has in it now pureed: Butternut squash, pears, apple, fruit compote, courgette, red pepper and potato. Phew. Am gonna gradually introduce new things over the coming weeks. J absolutely adores his solids and is drinking more milk than before which is great. He does still fuss on his bottles a little but settles down into them quick enough.

Have had a lovely day cos DH has been off so in spite of the crap weather we went into town. Got J some fab trousers for £2 from Primark!!!

Still sunny here!

katwith3kittens · 14/05/2007 19:53

Fabulous evening here too !

Btw, my copy of Junior magazine finally arrived today, and as a measure of goodwill they are going to send me 4 for the price of a £1 now. Just got to remember to cancel the DD in 3 months instead now !

ellieandhattie · 14/05/2007 20:17

Just sat down after a long day decorating, managed to get all emulsion on the walls done and put new curtain pole and curtains up and move furniture around a bit.

Got to order some new carpet and put the new blind up plus make some tiebacks for the curtains but its looking very girly (Ellie was trying to swap rooms with Hattie ) plus need to sort more of her stuff out as got bits that dont fit again

Lizzzombie · 14/05/2007 20:19

wilks - did you get an Annabel Karmel food masher? would you recommend it?
Shimmer - DJ does the high pitched squeal thing too, its him communicating with dolphins, as we live by the sea, like I said..child genius!

Dragonhart · 14/05/2007 20:45

UD - did you get the car sorted? Sounds like a nightmare.

LTH- I didnt use any baby walker for Luke and he still didnt walk til 14 months!

Mr Carrot and Wilkie- I love the yoghur ton the lid. It is like extra bonus yoghurt! I even shake it so that there is more on it!

Jodie - congrats on the potty training!

2happy- no code browns here either. At least it was a solid one though. I always wonder what I would do if I got a code mustard yellow as surly it would mix with the water! (sorry!)

Thanks to everyone for the tips on sore boobs. I tried the wide toothed comb and it was soooo nice. Did it in the shower and it seemed to sort it. Also fed loads on that side and it went in afew days. Mrs carrot, where do you get ginger oil? I couldnt get hold of any but wanted to get some incase it happened next time.

We had a great weekend. Luke loved the party and had such a good time. They had a bouncy castle and my friends ds had got a play house for his bday so they had the time of their life playing around. We had a good time too and it was good to catch up.

I had a funny but bf experience with a very glamorous, childless friend. I was feeding RUth in their lounge and my friend came and sat next to me. She was asking how I was doing and also about feeding her like does it hurt etc.

Then all of a sudden R had a coughing fit, came off my nipple and a huge spray of bm went over R's head and onto her really expencive jeans and suede shoes! I pmsl and she just had this kind of disgusted but I can show it look!

Oh and no one has ever said anything to me about feeding in public. Guess I am lucky. I did ask once if it was ok if I fed in a cafe once (when I first started bf luke and thought I should ask that question) and she said yes, if you would rather you can bf in the baby changing facilities ie the disabled toilet! Said no thanks and got my boobs out!

My dsis told me her Dh's childless but 20 something cousins were talking about bf with her and they said they thought that bf was disgusting and not what breast were for! WTF do they think they are for!!

Dragonhart · 14/05/2007 20:47

Sorry for the enormous post!

I have noticed that Ruth 'talks' alot more that Luke. My mum said that girls talk and communicate earlier than boys but not sure if that is true as some of her 'facts' are a bit

ellieandhattie · 14/05/2007 20:55

Dragonhart both of mine 'gurgles' and 'talked' from around 15 weeks, Hattie can babble away for half an hour sometimes especially if I lay her facing a mirror I swear she thinks its someone else there.

Have you just seen the news re the Madeleine case they are questioning a man who lives a few hundred yards away in teh same apartment block so he could have seen that they were on their own. British bloke who has been 'helping' the police/journalists translate and it was his mum who set up a stall offering to take info to pass to police. This man is British and seperated from his wife but has a daughter same age as Madeleine but she lives in england with her mum. Appaently although been 'mingling' with journalists etc wouldnt give any interviews sort of fits with Ian Huntley a bit and he drained their swimming pool ealry hours of the morning God I hope in a way they get an answer

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2007 20:59

Uurgh, how can you, Dragon, when people lick the top I shudder. Maybe it's from when they all used to be metal and tongues would rasp over it but even with paper ones, it's all CURDY!

Can you not find ginger oil? I got some in our local chemist with all the other essential oils, and I think they do them at Neil's yard. I can send you some if you like as I have two pots now. My e-mail if you want to give me your address is [email protected]. Maybe I could send that other Michelle Magorian book that you haven't read. Can't remember which one it was.

My friend just brought round some more of the huge black and white wedding photos. They're so lovely and there's a gorgeous one of LO asleep at the meal. I'll have to see if I can get them on a disc to put some up here.

I feel a bit sick this evening, and not a little windy . Maybe it's all the extra vegetables!! I think I must have hit ten portions...

JodieG1 · 14/05/2007 21:01

Lol Dragon at the breastmilk spray Ethan is 17 weeks now and has been gurgling away for weeks, at least 4 or 5 and has been giggling and laughing a while too. Lol at the women saying boobs aren't for breastfeeding. I bf ds1 from when I was 24, it's a shame that they have that attitude. As far am I'm concerned breasts are there for feeding babies first and foremost.

We have some baby einstein dvds but haven't played them for Ethan yet, did with the other 2 a few times and they liked them. Might get them out.

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2007 21:02

really, EAH, a detective said the other day he thought there were lots of similarities to the soham thing. I can't bear to watch the news.

trixymalixy · 14/05/2007 21:03

hellooo,

thought I'd make an appearance! hope everyone is well.

Haven't been on for ages as have just been too busy finishing off the last of the DIY upstairs in our house, which was started before DS was born and he's now 16 weeks!!

Also DH kind of got sacked so hasn't been working so hard in the evenings so i have been keeping him company instead.

been having a bit of a nightmare with DS. he keeps screaming during feeds after about 10 mins and then refusing to feed anymore. Have got infacol and gaviscon, but just doesn't seem to be making any difference. I'm finding it so tiring as feeds are taking hours and he is much more unsettled at night.

Everyone keeps going on about weaning him or moving to formula, but was hoping to bf exclusively till 6 months and do BLW.

ellieandhattie · 14/05/2007 21:04

I know MrsC but in a way I hope the family get an answer it must be so mentally draining wondering the whole time, theres a tread on here with someone updating from the news, I try not to watch to much coverage as it really plays on my mind

ellieandhattie · 14/05/2007 21:05

hello trixy no help i am afraid re feeding but nice to hear from you

trixymalixy · 14/05/2007 21:08

Hi EAH,

Am thinking that i am going to try cutting out dairy to see if that helps.

Mrs C, i can't bear to watch the news either at the moment, I feel so dreadfully sorry for that poor family.

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2007 21:45

EAH- I've looked at that thread too but it's so depressing, and sky is reporting in a really odd way, they've got old friends of his saying they used to go skiing with him, really odd

Trixy- Sorry you're having a hard time with your lo. Felix went through a phase of screaming after a bit on one side, I thought it was his tummy but it turned out to be some sort of compression on one side, if I held him rugby ball style it was better. The cranial osteopathy really cleared that up, and actually, it was the osteopath who told me to cut out dairy too. I'm avoiding it again as since the wedding I've sort of carried on eating it and all his symptoms came back, wheezy breathing, watery eyes and excema. I've been three days and it is getting better so I'm convinced it helps. Obviously it doesn't affect every baby but it def sems to affect some of them. I've tried most of the alternatives and can give them marks out of ten etc so if you need any recipes or ideas then just ask I hope it gets better and you can keep feeding as long as you want to. Have you contacted the breastfeeding support services and le leche leage etc? They usually have ggod advice for every kind of problem.

laughalot · 14/05/2007 21:45

Evening all well im a little bit pissed off after watching look north tonight on telly that is our local news. I am not posting this to have a dig at people who breastfeed I just want to make the point of how bloody awful people make you feel for not breastfeeding. Ikea were holding a breastfeeding day in one of there cafes to highlight that it is acceptable for mums to breastfeed in public that is fine I totally agree mums should be able to do it where they like its natural and that is what mums are born to do, however some flippin high and mighty woman starts blabbering on about how all mums should breastfeed, that formula fed babies are causing the nhs hundreds of thousands of pounds each year because they have stomach upsets for example gastrointris(sp) I could have screamed my little boy isnt walking around like a frail skeleton because he was formula fed he is a happy healthy little boy who is no different to his friends who had breast milk. I hate do gooders I wanted to bf aidan but the support wasnt there maybe if they train there staff to help new mums they wouldnt have to spend so much money on formula fed babies who are causing the nhs apparently so much grief. You wait in a few years time it will be sorry master taylor we cant treat you as your mother gave you a bottle when you were a baby. God they dont half know how to make you feel guilty it actually made me cry because I was made to feel like my child is going to have all these problems in later life and its bullshit. Sorry for post had to get it off my chest.

laughalot · 14/05/2007 21:47

Meant to say lth it is a daft name for riding a bike but it bloody kills .

Nemo2007 · 14/05/2007 21:52

OMG why do you all talk sooo much??? I dont have chance to keep up without being reported to social services for child abandonment...

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2007 21:59

I agree, Laughalot, sanctemony and preaching is highly irritating. Every mother tries to do what's best for her and her child and making people feel guilty is unacceptable. In an ideal world everyone would get the support they need rather than criticism which only serves to reduce peoples sef esteem and faith in their own parenting, and sadly, it's often us women that are the worst culprits, as though putting down other's decisions reinforces the fact that WE'VE made the right decision. This can be seen all too often on some threads on here, horrible arguments full of judgement rather than support.
