Hi!

Currently 6 days post partum I have been using only water wipes so far on my dd my partner suggested huggies 'newborn' wipes I personally don't trust it and would rather spend the extra money

Has anyone used the huggies ones or have comments on either wipes?

Thank you Flowers

I started using the huggies ones from about 4 weeks. I also use washable cheeky wipes so wasn't using the Huggies ones 100% of the time but I haven't had any problem with my LO's skin.

WishUponAStar88 · 02/08/2017 16:19

I haven't tried huggies but have used Aldi sensitive since birth on both my dcs and neither have had nappy rash.

Lizibet · 02/08/2017 16:21

Unless she has a skin condition newborn or sensitive baby wipes will be absolutely fine.

Foreverhopeful22 · 02/08/2017 16:23

Hate huggies

Love Aldi ones - mine has sensitive skin and never caused issues

May09Bump · 02/08/2017 16:24

Huggies newborn are great - I started with water wipes and then moved onto huggies. My LO had skin conditions and was fine with these also.

hollyisalovelyname · 02/08/2017 16:36

I like the Water Wipes concept.

Serafinaaa · 02/08/2017 16:36

I used any sensitive or newborn wipes from birth.

milleniumhandandprawn · 02/08/2017 18:38

huggies we're fine with DD but gave DS horrible nappy rash at 3 weeks.
He does have more sensitive skin though

emlemon · 04/08/2017 22:37

My baba is 13 weeks. I use water wipes during night and when out, and water and cotton wool when at home during the day. I have tried other types of wipes a few times but nappy rash followed. I also found that her skin has been a lot better since using reusable nappies, couldn't use them at first as she was tinsy and didn't fit into them.

Orangebird69 · 04/08/2017 22:40

I started with water wipes or cotton wool and water indoors and then moved onto huggies pure. No problems here. A lot of people don't like the texture of huggies - there feel a lot more like thick tissue than other 'stretchy' wipes but that's why I like them. They're also on offer on amazon quite often - around £10 for 18 packs.

anchor9 · 04/08/2017 23:39

i definitely would not use huggies! i use either water wipes (although these are v wet and upset my baby when he was v little due to being cold) or johnstons(?) with the green/purple writing .

however I now use, unless traveling, aveeno (?) cleansing lotion and cotton wool - much better imo!

TittyGolightly · 04/08/2017 23:42

I like the Water Wipes concept.

Do they have one? Their tag line about "zero chemicals" is complete bollocks......

TittyGolightly · 04/08/2017 23:42

Isn't advice with newborns just cooled boiled water and cotton wool?

MeltorPeltor · 04/08/2017 23:49

Newborn we just used water, then tried Huggies which are the work of the devil to get out of the packet and 9 times out of 10 dry up when the flap falls off. Now used Aldi sensitive, they're big and easy to whip out one handed, have never upsets DS's skin and are super cheap so I just bulk buy.

lauryloo · 04/08/2017 23:57

Water wipes brought my lo out in the worst rash. We use Sainsbury's ones and they are brilliant for difficult poo

emlemon · 05/08/2017 01:21

@TittyGolightly what chemicals do water wipes have in them? It says water and grapefruit seed extract on the ingredient list.

TittyGolightly · 05/08/2017 08:41

What's water made of?

Blondefancy · 05/08/2017 08:51

We use the Johnson's version of water wipes, considerably cheaper with no fragrance or chemicals 😊 Water wipes we tried for 2 months &I gave up because they were too expensive 🙄

TittyGolightly · 05/08/2017 08:52

FFS. Everything is made of chemicals! Water, air, humans.......

emlemon · 05/08/2017 10:11

I don't know titty, maybe they are making reference to... you know.. chemicals that are man-made/artificial/toxic?

TittyGolightly · 05/08/2017 10:15

Probably. But
"preservative/fragrance/irritant free" is not the same as "chemical free".

Seriously shoddy marketing that is helping to assist the "race to the bottom" as far as human intellect is concerned.

Daffydil · 05/08/2017 11:03

We'll then they should be a little more specific.

Fwiw we use a mix of huggies pure and Aldi sensitive, and luckily have no skin issues. I refuse to pay more than 70p for a pack of wipes. Even on offer water wipes are way more than that.

I tried doing homemade cheeky wipes but it was just too much hassle.

kickingk16 · 17/08/2017 22:10

I bulk buy Water Wipes on Amazon which makes them a bit less pricey. I do find them worth it, but that's also because my daughter has very bad eczema and so her skin is really sensitive. We've used water + cotton wool at home and Water Wipes out and about since day one and still do now at 18 months! (Morrisons do the cheapest big cotton wool pads).

I think it's not a bad idea to keep with them for the bit of extra expense for the first few weeks when their skin is so new and sensitive. Then maybe think about switching up a bit later on (but perhaps stay with it a bit longer if eczema does run in your family). You could always intersperse with cotton wool and water for non-messy nappies to make them last longer.

The Johnsons extra sensitive wipes aren't the same as water wipes and we do find that they irritate her sensitive skin more:

Water wipes ingredients: Water (99.9%), Grapefruit seed extract (0.1% - contains 0.002% Benzalkonium Chloride)

The ingredients of Johnsons Extra Sensitive are: Aqua, Glycerin, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides Citrate, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Carbomer, Lauryl Glucoside, Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, p-Anisic Acid, Tocopherol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate.

I'm sure they're fine for the majority of babies, but at 6 days old I'd stick with as gentle an option as possible for now.

I used buggies and pampers sensitive on my firstborn, who had horrendous nappy rashes from time to time.

Then they created water wipes , so I used them on my second child, who had no rash problem at all. A complete waste of my metanuim supply!

Two other things I noticed: 1. You can squeeze water wipes and get a decent flow of water to flush sticky poos away, saves all that weetabix smearing.

  1. Other wipes, such as pampers sensitive, get out any dirt marks from the carpet, but water wipes do not. Not even with elbow grease. This has made me suspicious about what sort of harsh chemicals must be in pampers, do get such good results!

If I had my time again I'd definitely go down the water wipes route again. I also got mine from Amazon subscribe and save, which often worked out half price of supermarket prices, plus they did a handy travel size for handbags/changing bags.
