Hmmm BP tricky!

If she is self catering then I would say a really good wok or frying pan and a good knife are important as stuff in kitchens usually rubbish. Other than that stuff to make hr room a bit more 'hers' like a nice throw or something. If she does have her own computer a printer is usefull as having to it to uni everytime you want to print is an arse!

Olihan · 25/04/2007 09:52

Oh dear, Indith. I AM sorry, poor, poor you. I DO hope he sleeps better tonight [evil ].

Olihan · 25/04/2007 09:56

BP, some friends of mine bought me a toaster when I went to Uni and it was the best thing I was given. So handy for post pub toast fests!!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 25/04/2007 09:58

I used persona for a while and diaphragms as well.

Elibean · 25/04/2007 10:19

welcome back Anna

Oli, omg, stamina vibes to you girl...

Just did fast scan of posts and, to my sleep-deprived brain, saw lots of gadget words: toaster, wok, coil

Will try and engage in general convo later, have to admit defeat right now in face of Oli-style night. dd was up with totally blocked snout inbetween every feed, and dd1 had nightmare (I blame the ballet teacher!) and basically I was up every half hour until about 3am at which point took dd2 into bed with us and sprayed a ton of sterimar up her nose. Still had to feed at 6am and up at 7am, but that was a major improvement.

Have posted about allergies on health section in despair - surely blocked noses from colds can't last THIS long?!? Or get better then worse on a daily basis?

Sorry to moan about snot again, getting boring, and none more bored than me

babypowder · 25/04/2007 10:19

Margo, I'm a bit dim. what's persona?

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 25/04/2007 10:30

here is a link

the only one approved by the catholic church methinks!

annaspanner · 25/04/2007 10:43

BP-I was sent off with a kettle, an alrm clock and a big suitcase I still use(nearly 20 years later)
I was recommended Persona a few years ago-a friend said it was the best method she had ever used. It would scare me though. We are still using condoms, and hating them, which probably makes them the best form of contraception .

babypowder · 25/04/2007 11:08

Keep meaning to say - I've just bought a Giordani Watertot baby carrier from Kiddicare for £6 (down from £50). They're meant to be fab for taking little ones in the pool, particularly if you have bigger ones with you too (like I do - DD1 is quite a nervous swimmer, so it helps being hands free!)

castlesintheair · 25/04/2007 11:38

Welcome back Anna!

All 3 DCs got up at 5am today. It makes for a long day doesn't it?

Had a really horrible experience this morning when I was at the local retail park (quite small and only a few stores). Was in M&S and DD1 decided to vanish in the blink of an eye. Was racing around crying my eyes out with DD2 in carseat and shopping in other. She was found outside in the carpark looking for the car I've not been so scared in a long time and I feel like I want to stay locked up in the house forever.

Castles, your heart must have skipped a beat or two! I am glad everything was fine.
We decided last night that I would go to bed and dh would give ds a bottle (EBM). However it ended up with me giving ds the bottle as he wouldn't take it from dh, now, I thought it was supposed to be me he wouldn't take it from . So it was a bit pointless! plus he then gulped the 5oz and then finished off 1 side of me (I had already expressed 3oz) and then most of the other side (ie nothing left to express after his feed), then he woke up an hour earlier for his next feed, maybe this is the 4 month growth spurt? (4 months today!!!!, what textbook timing!)
I have found the aqueous cream (sp) reall good for his exzema - I bath him in plain water every evening as it relaxes him (Mon - 45 mins continuous crying, bath - peace!!)apart from after swimming when I wash him with the cream, then rub cream on his dry bits am and pm. I had been using diprobase but have found the aqueous cream much better.
Hi Anna, nice to hear from you, I have times of just lurking as sometimes there is so much posted it's hard to keep up!

Cocobabe · 25/04/2007 14:01

Helloooo

Another good night , ds slept from 10pm to 2.30a, feed& resttled him at 3.30am ,then wake for day at 6am to play ..

Castles- what a frightening experience youve had - Few weeks ago , I thought I lost dd1 in debenhams , one min she was next to me with buggy then I turn around , then me yelling her name frantically , fortunately a sales girl showed me where she was - she was looking at 'fifi' stuff ! ( i find Fifi and the flowertots bit annoying -cant stand the music !) God shopping with dc alone are hard work !

Eilbean - whats ranitidine syrup ? Ive never heard of it

Anyone know where i can get a cheap white parasol for the buggy ? (dont really want to splashing out so much since i dont plan for anymore kids)

Elibean · 25/04/2007 15:12

Coco, its Zantac - the stuff you can get over the counter for adults, to treat heartburn. dd has silent reflux, the syrup basically stops the stomach producing so much acid and helps the pain.

re nights!

annaspanner · 25/04/2007 15:14

Hi Coco
You said you were having a problem with the bottle. My LO was great with the bottle from birth then overnight started refusing it, 2 weeks before I started working again. We tried everything and everyone but no, she wouldn't. Then in desperation we changed from Avent bottle to Tommy Tippee and.....she took it immediately and now takes it from everyone, including me! Which is a relief because the freezer is half full of my milk Must be the strange shape.

Elibean · 25/04/2007 15:16

((Castles)) how upsetting, and how scary. Was dd scared too? I had similar experience with dd1 in Mothercare (in Kew Retail Park) and was also in tears. She thought it was a hoot, the rat - but she was younger (barely two) and it hadn't occurred to her that she couldn't find me if she wanted to and she'd run off for fun .

Be extra nice to yourself today please

Elibean · 25/04/2007 15:19

Someone asked me about doublebase (sorry, can't remember who - AQ??). Its a moisturizer, but personally I find it a lot lighter and easier to use than Diprobase or the other, greasier one we used to use whose name I can't remember. And I like the pump one, although you can never get the last inch out, which is very annoying.

dh even rang the manufacturer once to complain and suggest they do something, but apparently - they can't

Elibean · 25/04/2007 15:32

BP, dh's neice was at Plymouth - think her no.1 useful thing was a second hand bicycle. Not sure how much that would cost, though!

castlesintheair · 25/04/2007 17:29

Thanks for sympathy lovely ladies. I always know where to come Feel very tearful today. Think it's PMT and tiredness!!

Is anyone else's LO blowing raspberries? It's so cute isn't it? DS has just brought my attention to it

castlesintheair · 25/04/2007 17:32

Cocobabe, think I got a cheap(ish) parasol in Mothercare. Absolutely know idea where it is now!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 25/04/2007 17:45

Sacha - My mum said that I wouldn't take a bottle at all and she b/f for 9 months then I went straight to a beaker. I found that dd1 didn't take a bottle at 4 months but did a few weeks later.

So sorry Castles - short of tethering them to your middle there's nothing you could do to completely keep tabs on her especially if you have 3. Here's a hug {{}}

I have a kind of mantra (probably a bit OCD) where I think about the location my keys, phone, purse and dd1.

Elibean · 25/04/2007 17:48

Raspberries all day long here, so sweet!

Olihan · 25/04/2007 18:26

Coco, I got one for about £8 or so in Woolworths.

Castles, that's terrifying, ds1 ran off in Tesco the other day and I couldn't find him anywhere, fortunately he had the sense to stop by the fruit and veg so I caught up with him eventually. He looked a bit scared but still hasn't learned, he ran off again in Sainsbury's 2 days later!

AQ, how's the feeding been over the last couple of days?

jabberwocky · 25/04/2007 18:36

castles, deepest sympathy. Ds1 did that the other day and I would wake up at night in a panic for the next few nights. Still scares me to think about how fast they can get away!

AQ, thanks for the offer of the coil. I'll let you know.

OK, It may just be a one-off but ds2 slept from 9:30 to 2:45 am last night! Nursed a bit then went back down until around 6:00. I actually felt human this morning. I'm trying to get more of a routine going this week. God, it would be great to get sleep like that every night...

Cocobabe · 25/04/2007 19:36

thanks oli & castles for the parasol tips !

Ditto about the raspberries - my lo thinks its funny and gives me a big grin when i laugh at him blowing raspberries !

Cocobabe · 25/04/2007 19:39

Anna , lovely to meet you ..

glad to hear i am not the only one whos having bottle nightmares ! I will try the tommee tippee bottles next time - will let you know how i get on . thanks x
