Will this do?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cocobabe · 24/04/2007 16:04

LFM- imagine what you could have done if your lo did sleep for 22hrs !! - oh I would just dive into bed and sleep , sleep ....get someone to massage me ..oooh that would be bliss !

accessorizewithbabysick · 24/04/2007 16:06

Am I being total dur-brain, what's the problem with bathing every night? Is that going to exacerbate the skin probs and why? DS2 has one every night with his brother and loves it, but we rarely use anything other than a smidgeon of earth friendly baby bodywash/shampoo which I got when ds1 was a baby as his skin reacted to your standard johnson's etc (dp v.disappointed at my rule re: no johnsons...). I must have completely missed something here!

Indith · 24/04/2007 16:38

OMG
I have to post this here...don't know who else will lol at me and pat me on the head in such a nice patronising manner.
I just went on a coil thread hunt (incidently also started a thread on it in the health topic but not quite the same subject as this!) THAT is where my cervix is! I couldn't find it when doing a stokey monkey midwife DIY sweep. That is a bloody odd angle. You mean my baby came out THERE but twisted round and came down to the exit?!

Oh dear lord for a woman who has managed to push out a baby I have a very limited knowldge of what goes where

Olihan · 24/04/2007 16:44

Oh Indith, bless you, you are so sweetly clueless about it all, poppet.

That patronising enough for you?

How's your coil now? I had one between ds1 and dd and loved it, didn't have it put back in after dd and ds2 is the result so dh pretty much frogmarched me to the gp at 6 weeks to get one this time! Not that I've tested it's effectiveness yet - don't get enough time .

Olihan · 24/04/2007 16:45

its effectiveness . I'm tired!

accessorizewithbabysick · 24/04/2007 16:48

{{{sleep vibes > Oli }}}

Indith, I too am clueless, can't help you there and I had a coil in for 2 years!

Indith · 24/04/2007 16:48

Why thank you Oli

Cramping again this pm, also wondering if light-headedness yesterday and xhausted feeling today and a new small lump on my leg are related to it but probably just being paranoid.

Olihan · 24/04/2007 16:53

Indith, have you got the Mirena or just the plain copper one? Mine's just a plain one (I am NOT a nice person on articial hormones!) but the Mirena I think has all sorts of funny effects while it settles in, so to speak.

there's no chance you could be pg, is there?

Olihan · 24/04/2007 16:54

That'll be artificial, then .

Indith · 24/04/2007 16:56

hello AQ!

The Mirena Oli (was NOT a nice person on pill but willing to try localised hormones!) Guess I'll give it a while to settle. Grrr

The Dr made me abstain for 2 weeks before the fitting so she could do a pg test and be sure

weirdbird · 24/04/2007 18:54

I had the Mirena between DD1 and DD2 was fine for about a year and no periods!! which was a bonus, but cramping for about a week after it was put in wasn't fun. After about a year though I started going a little mad and had serious mood swings apparently this is not unusual with the Mirena, so just keep a watch on yourself and if you start fantasising about driving the car through the bend signs then it might well be the coil sending you a tad loopy!! Though its questionable how loopy I was before...

jabberwocky · 24/04/2007 19:08

AQ, even bathing ds1 too often in water dried his skin out when he was a babe so that's why I don't do it every night with ds2 b/c his skin is even more sensitive.

I thought about the mirena, still might do it at some point but they are $700 here and that put me off for a bit.

Elibean · 24/04/2007 19:52

Oli: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....repeat six hundred times.

If only twas that easy, eh? Glad you got a nap.

Have had some nice times with dd1 today (if you don't count her having hysterics for being told not to be silly in ballet class - she took it to heart, poor love, and was baffled: 'but Mummy, its OK to be silly at my nursery, I don't understand!!') and dd2 has been napping, pooing and feeding like a model unrefluxy, properly-larynxed five months old.

Till after bath (yup, she was all clean and shiny and smelling lovely, just like Coco describes) when she vomited entire feed inside her buggy, where she was parked whilst I was cooking, over herself, and me. She's now gone to bed with almost nothing in her tummy other than Ranitidine syrup, and is bound to be starving all night long...[resigned emoticon]

Am planning a whopping great dreamfeed

accessorizewithbabysick · 24/04/2007 20:42

OOh, yes Oli, the nap sounded good, all of you asleep at once unheard of!

Jabber, I've got a coil on top of my first aid cabinet, I'll post it to you

How can water make their skin worse, I'm at a loss here as we love our bathtime, dp hops in with both of them and they have a lovely time whilst I hang out washing! But as I am bf mainly for the ecxema (sp...whatever) guess I'd best sort the rest of stuff out!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 24/04/2007 20:50

magnolia1 · 24/04/2007 21:27

Blimey Margo what a day!!! So much to read arrrggghhhhh I can't keep up!

I promise I have read everything but have had a glass of wine and really can't remember who said what

I wanted a coil but gp said because of my previous mood swings and irregular bleeding It's not a good idea

Dh gone to a market research group. £40 for 2 hours of talking about mobile phones!!

Ok it's really a glass and a half and typing this I realise I can't take my drink
And I bet i doesn't help ds1 sleep any better

Olihan · 24/04/2007 21:44

Ooh, now there's a thought Magnolia, maybe I should get hammered and see if that makes the little monkey sleep . I wonder what sort would work best?

AQ, nap was lovely, not only did they all go to sleep at the same time but ds2 stayed asleep. Normally I have to resettle him every half hour or so but he just conked out. A minor miracle in the Olihan household, I feel

Thank you for all the vibes for tonight, here's hoping!

annaspanner · 24/04/2007 22:12

Hi all
How are you doing? I just couldn't keep up after the birth but Lucy said she'd been popping in so I thought I would too. My life has changed so much. I now have a daily routine, for the first time ever!I make lists-sad.Nobody told me how much organising I would have to do as a mum! Regular showers and clean tops are a thing of the past. The only thing that hasn't changed is my post birth belly.
Anyhow, touch wood, things seem to be calming down so hopefully I can drop in a bit more. I'll try to catch up when I can.

annaxx

magnolia1 · 24/04/2007 22:19

Anna, so lovely that you are back

Oh dear 2 glasses of wine and I am a mess Think thats my lot lol (I won't say how many times I have had to type this!!!)

babypowder · 24/04/2007 22:39

Anna, fab to see you again.

Indith, you do provoke some interesting discussions I was meant to have the Mirena fitted in February last year, but our local surgery couldn't do it as I haven't had a natural birth. So I decided to get pregnant instead I still haven't sorted out any birth control, just going on a wing and a prayer at the moment (not that there's a huge need for it. Too tired 99.9% of the time!)

Bathing does dry out the skin, so if babies are prone to skin problems, bathing even in plain water MAY exacerbate them. I'm probably over-reacting, but I don't want another itchy-scratchy. I BF DD1 for years, and it made no difference, though - if its going to happen it will.

Very envious of your glasses of wine Magnolia

Hope everyone has a good night (even you, Oli!)

LowFatMilkshake · 25/04/2007 08:46

Hi All,

More vibes to Oli - hope you dont think I am being a CM - just so amazed that the new routine for feeding seems towork.

Coil - shudder....then again I dont anymone else fiddling around with me down there now thanks! And I dont want the pill and I am finding condoms blardy annoying! I will ask DH "How about we use natural planning?" >
My SIL says she has heard of women who got PG on the coil and baby was born with it in thier hand she is full of funny little stories like that - I doubt there is a truth in it!

A*rse boss called yesterday to say he could not agree to me working 1 hour a day from home as he needs me in the office, but I could cut my hours by 1 a day and then make up some of the time on the 1 week in six when my DH is off ?? Is it me or has he said in one breath he can't spare me not in the office and in the next breath I can cut out 5 hours a wekk totally?? With an option to make up time if I want and if the company is prepared to pay it - which they often are'nt No thank you i will continue as before and deal with getting home late - cookery essons for DH! And an IPOD for my birthday to play some good loud guitar tunes so let me blow off work during the long bus ride! Sorry rant over.

DS is currently lying on the floor covered in toys put there by DD who is munching her new Princess breakfast ceral - God Bless Weetabix marketers for dreaming up a cereal she will eat that's not covered in sugar

Indith · 25/04/2007 09:34

Olihan where the blazes are you you get right back here young lady!

The dream feed extended him by all of half an hour, then he woke again 2.5 hours later and that was it. Ah well try again tonight!

How was the sleep Magnolia?I sem to recall gin not making any difference to mine I too get drunk on sod all these days, not that it used to take much at all really.

Hello Anna! Nice to see you! I should make more lists, memory like a sieve these days, am now a firm believer in the whole brain shrinkage thing

babypowder · 25/04/2007 09:35

LFM, my stepson was born with the coil in his hand! Terrifying thought ...

I, too, am at a loss re birth control. Having spent many, many years taking the pill I turned into a monster when I started taking them after DD1 was born. I hate condoms, don't fancy the Mirena, apparently abstinence is not an option - any ideas? (I had considered leaving this up to DH, but I've been leaving less important matters up to him, like clearing the gutters, etc., and they still haven't happened!)

babypowder · 25/04/2007 09:41

Indith, my eldest step-daughter is starting a Plymouth Uni in the summer. Times have changed a bit since I was at uni. I want to buy her something practical that will be of use to her at uni. Any ideas? (Something relatively inexpensive. I'm not buying her a laptop or anything. Say around £100?

Olihan · 25/04/2007 09:42

Well, he fed every 2 hours again last night and was up for the day at 5:50am but settled a lot better after feeds so I was only up for 15 mins at a time. 'Only' she says blithely! Still, it's an improvement on the last few nights. . He really doesn't like co-sleeping anymore either , seems to prefer his cot.

Ds1 decided to have a MEGA tantrum about going to preschool this morning, cue me dragging him down the road screaming at the top of his lungs . One of the preschool workers had to carry him in, still crying. I just phoned and he's happily joining in with circle time - little monster!

Anna, great to see you back .

LFM, don't worry, I don't think you're a CM at all, I'm just of all the sleep you get . PMSL @ the natural planning & your dh! New job deal sounds good, is your boss a bit dim? He sounds it!
