Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Indith, I've heard, dunno if its true, that babies in cloth nappies take longer to roll, due to the huge swathe of nappy they have to roll over (IYKWIM).

Congratulations on the essay progress!

I can't believe your daytime routine, LFM! My DD2 doesn't really believe in daytime naps, feeds whenever she damnwell feels like it, and generally struts her stuff all day long!

Coco, glad to hear that your LO is happy when not happy/puking Must be on the mend?

Indith · 22/04/2007 15:19

I've heard that too BP. I don't much care when he does it but it is amusing to watch him try!

Elibean · 22/04/2007 15:29

Yikes, you chatty lot

Haven't even had time to read and catch up more than a few posts, but if I wait till I have time for things I'm sunk, so...

Very interesting to read about routines or non-routines. My only set one is bath with dd1 at 6pm, followed by feed and then bed time around 7-7.30pm. I've started putting her down in her cot now, she's been so tired with this cold that she's out like a light anyway (till the snuffling/choking starts).

But looking at yours, LFM (well done, btw!) her naps are much the same. In that she tends to nap every two hours - but she's set that herself, nothing to do with me. And the last few days, she's been napping a lot to catch up on the broken nights

Indith, you go girl - I remember dh doing a huge essay just after dd1 was born: you'll look back in amazement that you did this one day, I guarantee you! Hope you're proud.

Elibean · 22/04/2007 15:31

Castles, thanks - am ok, dd no worse if not much better, and me still functioning, just

Though we just realized, with horror, that we haven't a passport for dd2 and we're supposed to be going to Paris in ten days time for granny's 100th.....looks like tickets down the drain and a postponement of 2 weeks or so. Such is sleep deprivation.

Elibean · 22/04/2007 15:32

Coco (here I go again, posting in threes) I'm so glad ds is happier/better. Re teats, have you tried NUK? My nephew flatly refused all bottles till my sil tried those - something about soft, shaped ones he went for where all else failed.

Indith · 22/04/2007 16:07

Eli how close are you to a passport office? YOu can't get them on the day for a first application but if you can get to one to hand in the form you can get it posted to you recorded in under a week, we got ours in about 3 days. You have to phone to make an appointment and it costs £80.

SachaF · 22/04/2007 17:25

I've heard the same re cloth and rolling, so ds gets extended nappy off time b4 bath. He first rolled front to back whilst in disposables on hols, took about 3 weeks to do it in a real nappy. Now he's concentrating on learning to crawl he has forgotten how to roll He is advanced on gross motor skills (being 17 weeks) but makes up for it with a lack of finer motor skills.
Saw HV last week and was very , they are not happy with his weight, asked why I hadn't brought him to be weighed for 8 weeks - urm, because he seems happy and is developing well, so does weight matter? he is 13lb 4oz, seems fine to me!
re routine i am following the unmentionable one, seems to work well, although we didn't get up till 9 so cut out am nap and had him up for 3 hours
Normally (eg 4 days out of 7)
7.15 Feed
9.15 - 10 Nap
10.45(ish) Feed
12.30-2.30 Nap
2.30 Feed
(4.30 Nap if tired)
5 Small feed
6 Nappy off
6.20 Bath
6.30 Feed
7 Bed
7.15 - My time!
Then feed twice in night, although for a couple of nights he only fed once.
I now have heavy cold / flu, and achy breasts, hope it's not related to him dropping a night feed! (He is back to two now, I slept so heavily last night with my cold that I didn't realise dh had to settle him a couple of times )
Oh and first night he dropped a feed...absolute panic at 1am that I'd some how broken him! (normally feeds about 10 or 11)

glassslipper · 22/04/2007 17:40

my DD is obssessed with rolling onto her tummy at the mo. She is only about 12lb Sasha and my hv isnt worried

our day today has gone like this :

03.00-03.20; feed - aaargh
04.15-04.30; another feed - double aaargh
07.25-10.00; fed then play
10.35-12.35; fed then play
13.25-16.05; fed then play
16.55-(BR)- fed & baby rice

as you can see she's had 3 naps ranging from 30-50 mins. she'll be up not until about 7.30.

Elibean · 22/04/2007 17:49

you mean my dd2 has put herself onto Unmentionable One's routine all on her own?! Eek

Mind you, thats only nap-wise, more or less. Feed-wise, she feeds on demand - which is little and often, as befits a refluxy baby I suppose. Speaking of which...

Elibean · 22/04/2007 17:50

Indith, thanks - yes, been trawling Gov website and that looks possible (though won't have photos back from photobox till Tuesday, so its cutting it fine) if they have an appointment on Tuesday/Wednesday for us. The website says up to 2 weeks to get one, but will phone tomorrow.

dh is all for postponing now, to minimize stress...

glassslipper · 22/04/2007 18:06

guys - i'll be away from tomorrow until friday so have a nice week and i'll catch up with you all when i get back xx

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/04/2007 20:02

My word, I'm very jealous of the routines, naps and rolling over! None of that in our house. I tried for a routine with ds1 but he just doesn't work that way & I couldn't be arsed after a while. We have a bedtime one for both of them. But everything keeps going right out the window, I gasped at Indith's 3.5 hours between feeds, only time I get that is at night, rest of time 1.5-2hours if I'm lucky. Still, I don't think I can really complain because they both slept in until 8.50 this morning!!!!! So I worked out ds2 had slept through 14.5 hours and then had a nap for about 90 minutes later as he was a bit poorly & hot.

I think it's def true about the cloth nappies, I took it off ds2 for a roll round and he was much more able to...um...lift his legs in the air?? But as I'm a 2nd time mum, no way am I worrying about this.

Much much better time of it this weekend. I haven't cried since Friday night! Yay! Made a lot of effort to be nice to myself, so I shaved, and sanded my feet, put a face mask on etc (not all at the same time obviously as I only get a 15 min window each time). WB, your photos were lovely, how're you today? I figured out today my main anxiety is about returning to work cos the nursery are asking & dp wants me to decide. So if I sort that I might feel more relaxed.

Cocobabe · 22/04/2007 20:04

Eilbean - thxs for the tip abt Nuk teat - do you know if they fit into avent bottles ?
Glassslipper - have a lovely break !

Indith · 22/04/2007 20:21

Don't worry AQ the 3.5 hours is for the night! Of course I did break my resolve last night feeding just an hour after going back to bed (but I had dropped off while feeding so I think it was a 2 hour gap between the actual feeds I need to put nails on the sofa or something I keep doing that!)and feeding when he woke at 6ish even though I know that that one is the troublesome one. Days are slip shod and variable!

Coco the Nuk ones do fit into the avent. They don't seem like they will but when you screw the top on they don't leak and that's good enough for me!

Ds had a wonderful naked play on his gym mat thingy. It seems lots more fun when you can lift your legs enough to kick the toys! Then he decided that having said how well bedtime worked he would disregard it. Was a bit out of sorts though, lots of screaming while feeding. Anyway he if in bed now having fallen asleep on me once he calmed down.

Have a good week GS.

Indith · 22/04/2007 20:24

To answer from your other thread coco (while I'm here!) the Nuk teat is a funny sort of shape that is supposed to be more nipple like, the end of the teat is flat and angled so that when the baby sucks the milk spurts out towards the roof of the mouth like with the breast.

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/04/2007 20:31

I second nuk as a friend has only managed to get both her babies to take those teats, she tried everything else!

Cocobabe · 22/04/2007 20:52

Thanks Indith - will definate try the Nuk teats & pray it works with ds !Will let u all know how I get on !

weirdbird · 22/04/2007 23:49

Thanks all, I think Hannah has finally turned the corner as well, she was 14 weeks this week and all of a sudden she is feeding less often and had a 2 hour long nap on Fri and Sat during the day.

Our routine is.... Mon - Fri only!

6-7am B'feed (if she hasn't woken by 7am I feed her, cause otherwise she always wakes up when I have just gotten in the shower!)
8.30 School run
9.15 B'feed
various feeds between 2 and 4 hours apart
2.00 B'Feed unless she has had one in the last hour
2.40 School run
3.15 Home again
Various B'feeds again
7.00 Bath with DD1
7.30 Epic B'Feed
8.30 - 9.00 Finally falls asleep
11.00 - 12.00 Dream B'Feed - depending on how late I work, its the last thing I do before going to sleep.
4 am B'feed (sleeps through this 4-5 nights of the week atm!)

Then on Sat & Sun it all changes as she rarely naps as there is too much going on with DH & DD1 at home and DH often lets me sleep in on both days, but bath and bed routine stay the same

Olihan · 23/04/2007 04:44

Hullo all, haven't been around all weekend as my head has been exploding with stress .

Ds1 is still poorly, not throwing up any mre, thank goodness but keeps spiking a temperature and feeling lousy, which isake him incredibly whingy (and irritating [bad mummy]. So we've been having broken nights with him since Tuesday. Dd is teething and has a cold so her sleeping has gone to pot and ds2 has a cough so his sleeping has gone from bad to unspeakably awful. Eli, you have all my sympathy, it's horrific.

Dh has got OFSTED at work next week so he's majorly stressed and to top it all off, our buyer's solicitor is being a prize w*er and is holding up our move - we're supposed to be going on Fri and we haven't even exchanged contracts yet .

DS2 has decided he's ready for bed, having been up since 2am, better go.

Elibean · 23/04/2007 08:33

omg Oli, that puts dd2's nights into perspective! My sympathies back, and I hope the buyers stop messing around. Not much worse than the stress of moving, let alone without sleep.

Not too bad here, dare I say - dd2 slept well from 3.30 - 6.45, managed a quick bf (hurrah!) then slept till I got up for dd1 at 7.45.

dh, on the other hand, has man flu and lay weakly groaning every time she stirred

LowFatMilkshake · 23/04/2007 08:52

Hi All,

Well.....DS slept from 8pm to 6am with no major problems A little fussy around 4am, but a 10 visit to his room to give a dummy and a stroke and he was off again Wonder if it was a one-off. Tonight and I am going to enjoy the sheer luxury of climbing in to bed at oooh...... about 8.30pm

DS also begining to roll o to his side and grunt at the effort of going further. And he loves to be naked so he can grab his toes and kick down hard.

Oli - hugs for your little ones and you with the broken sleep. Sending good vibes your way.

DH is off work this week so has taken DD to pre-school.

DD has got the start of a cold. And she is begining to suffer with some rashes on her legs which i think come from her legs rubbing together as she is in dressed all the time. She's not chubby likeI was when I was little (and now [blush) but she stil suffers . But she as playing in a friends garden yesterday and I wonder also is she got irritated by some plants too. Will take her to docs if it carries on.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 23/04/2007 09:12

I hope you got some sleep Oli - and hope you exchange today

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 23/04/2007 09:44

dd2 did her first full on laugh yesterday.

cue me spending 20 mins holding the phone to her mouth whilst blowing raspberries on her belly so my parents could hear her

Cocobabe · 23/04/2007 11:19

Morning all ...

DS slept abit better - from 10pm to 3.30am (yay!), feed(a very long one !)then he woke up at 4.40 thinking he wanted more feed but no ! he wanted to play - decided to smile and gurgle at me ! hmm heres me sleepy not impressed so i put him back to bed and let him gurgle away by himself but he wouldnt settle do dh went downstairs wiv him then he fell back to sleep at 6am till 7.15am for feed and wake for day . Dh is being more helpful this am cus i suspect hes trying to keep me sweet cus hes out 2night with the lads to see Jimmy Carr leaving me wiv the
kids !
dd1 having a scan at hosp this avro to check for any kidney damage - she had a urinary tract infection a while ago which has now cleared up. Apparently its standard procedure for kids under 5 who have had UTI to have a scan. So i hope her kidneys are ok .

Oli - hugs to u - must be v stressful wiv the kids playing up and house-moving being nightmarish . hope things improves soon

Indith · 23/04/2007 12:10

Oli you poor thing! Here's hoping they all improve soon.

We had a good night, aftr the late to bed ds slpt from 8-1.30, bf, sleep til 5, bf then unfortunately woke at 6.20 but hey ho!

Right now I have no idea what is wrong. Last night when putting him to bed he was screaming whil feeding but still fed well after he calmed down. No probs overnight or this morning. I fed close together at 7 and then 8.30 as I had 9-11 lecture. Was happy as anything. Got home, still happy, put him on to feed and after a few sucks screaming, inconsolable. Finslly calmed him and tried again, same result. Dp calmed him, handd him back (insisting he was starving as was sucking on finger, when will that man larn that doesn't always mean hunger!) sam again. Dp insists I get some ebm out of the freezer and make up a bottle so I do. This rsults in screaming with dp getting hacked off at ds. Ds now asleep on me chewing on dummy. Not fed since 8.30 though.
