HI Jabber - sorry I have not said much about your poor litle DS - what a brave little ma having to go through all that examination and stuff. I hope he starts to improve soon.

babypowder · 10/04/2007 14:03

I'm sitting in a sunbeam, watching children playing in the garden, my washing blowing gently in the breeze and hearing cows across the river. My baby is sleeping quietly beside me. I am calm and happy. I love maternity leave

Indith · 10/04/2007 14:05

Shite

Dp has been offered a graduate job in Scunthorpe. We live in Durham! I still have another year of uni to do! But you can't turn a job like that down.

Arse.

Indith · 10/04/2007 14:06

sorry

babypowder · 10/04/2007 14:15

Indith! What does this mean? Can you transfer? When does the job start? It's obviously good news for your DP, but what about you and your DS?

It's not easy for you, is it

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/04/2007 14:20

My DH got a new job which he had to go on a 5 week course for when dd1 was just 1 month old.

That was hard...but for 1 year - do you know what you are going to do?

LowFatMilkshake · 10/04/2007 14:26

Indith - sorry to hear this - I bet you are now sitting there thinkning of all the major changes this will mean.!

My DH has also come back as bearer of bad news today - rumours at his palce are that hours will change from 5am-1pm to 6am-2pm

Good that DH wont be as tired at night,
Bad that I will have to drop an hour or work till 7pm instead of 5pm. Possible my boss might agree to 1 hour a day from home as I am currently asking for but v. unlikely he will agree to 2!

Indith · 10/04/2007 14:37

The job starts in September but the contract here runs out at the end of June, we were house hunting already! Ooops.

I can't transfer really as I'm final year etc. We are thinking York, it being about an hour to commute from for both of us, doable for a year then move closer to Scunthorpe. Either that or find a cheap place at each end and I spend half my time in each. Daunting though, new place, new start for a year then move again. Plus we now need to work out how to find a rental in york starting June/July and also find a creche for Ds as soon as I hav my timetable for next year.

My Distric Commisioner is not going to be impressed either I've just agreed to start up Rainbows and all the parents have been told so they are going to end up with me for a term then mayb fold again unless someone else can take them.

He'd applied for the Teeside plant for a reason!I am sitting looking out over the Cathedral, we had plans to stay in Durham for at least the next year I do not want to move to Scunthorpe! God I can see myself getting sucked back into Hull again. (no offence AQ but I escaped and I'm NOT ending up back there!)

jabberwocky · 10/04/2007 15:28

Thanks for the sympathy everyone

Indith, what an upheaval for you! Good luck with everything. Sounds like the hour commute is the way to go but still hard I know. I do an hour commute to one of my offices one day a week and it's not much fun.

BP, very of you!

accessorizewithbabysick · 10/04/2007 15:52

jabber, sounds really awful for all of you. Are there signs when there's a problem, ds1 has had bad constipation on and off for months now, I was posting elsewhere now I think I better get him to the gp's!

Indith, no offense taken . I only moved here cos my parents did 12 years ago from oz! Escaped to leeds, but met dp and dragged back again. Sounds like a big upheaval for all of you, hard enough doing it all without 5 mo baby to deal with (who's not sleeping, come on now LO!)

jabberwocky · 10/04/2007 16:26

The only signs I had were just that the color and consistency changed over time. At first just paler and softer then more and more loose. If he's had it for a while it couldn't hurt to get it checked out as you might catch things before they get to the stage we're at. Hoping for you (and him!) it's just typical constipation tho.

castlesintheair · 10/04/2007 16:29

AQ, no offence, but why did your parents move from Oz to Hull?

Indith, DH has a 3 hour commute every day. And, he's in the office a minimum of 12 hours a day. It's shite but we have to do these things if we want to get on in life. Personally, I'd stay in Durham, which I've heard is lovely. A year flies by. You notice it especially when you are pushing 40!

OP posts:
Indith · 10/04/2007 16:34

3 hours!

I most humbly retract all my grumbles.

I often ask my mum a similar question. How the hell did you end up in Hull from Bordeaux!

Now if only they had a site in Bordeaux

Olihan · 10/04/2007 16:38

Indith, that's a horrible dilemma, don't know what the answer is really.

When we move I'll be in Cheshire while dh works in Bristol still. He's tied into his job until July 2008 so he's staying down here through the week, with an occasional midweek night up with us depending on his timetable/other tasks. I wouldn't be doing it if we weren't moving to the same village as the PILs but it's only for another 18 months. It's still a bit crappy though, neither of us are looking forward to it but we'd never be able to afford the move if we left it, house prices are ridiculous up there. Plus, I want the PILs support now, while all 3 are so small, there'd be little point going once they're all at school. Weighing up the pros and cons is a nightmare though.

Castles, how do you manage having all 3 dcs on your own all week? I know I'll cope because I have to but is there any way of making it easier?

Jabber, been wondering where you were. Poor ds1, how scary for both of you.

castlesintheair · 10/04/2007 16:40

Ah, yes, Indith, Bordeaux would be lovely!

Having said that we could have moved to The Loire a couple of years ago but quite frankly I'd probably have been bored rigid. That's what DH told me anyway

OP posts:
castlesintheair · 10/04/2007 16:51

Olihan, yes you manage because have to and thankfully you will have your PILs nearby. Make the most of them. I don't have anyone nearby and would love to have just someone, but, hey, that's life! I find just being busy means you get on with it and don't think about how hard it can be IYKWIM. If I'm going to crumble it's when DH is here. I suppose I spend the rest of the time "being strong". Then I think about how I wouldn't want to be working in The City anymore and then I think about people I know who can't have children and I feel totally blessed ... if a little stressed some days!!
Oh, and a big garden helps plus a house with lots of rooms (as opposed to open-plan) so you can escape to mumsnet without them finding you so quickly

OP posts:
Indith · 10/04/2007 19:09

Thanks for the comments. I've had it so good thus far with Dp around so much during the day! York it shall most probably be and it will be fine! There are so many of you that have much longr commutes (or at least the dhs have).

accessorizewithbabysick · 10/04/2007 21:09

LOL at castles escaping, I do it all the time, I'm a very quiet mover when I want to be

My dad was born in Lincoln, castles, and he wanted to live in England for a while - it was Hull or Aberystwyth. He's now divorced from my mum and living in black isle in scotland, just about to go back to oz again permanently whilst we're all stuck here. Grrrr. It ain't that bad, heck of a lot better since I first came here. DP's actually quite keen to move to oz in a couple of years so you never know. In the meantime, my job's around the corner & dp has a 15 min commute so life's pretty good all in (houses are nice and cheap in Hull at least).
How're the dizzy spells btw? Got my iron back today, perfectly normal. does my gp give a toss about the reason anymore

accessorizewithbabysick · 10/04/2007 21:11

And York is great isn't it Indith, it's where we're thinking of getting married (engaged for 7 years and counting...).

glassslipper · 11/04/2007 07:29

Indith, a tough decision for you but a year can go very quickly!

Castles - 3 on your own all week. wow.

Well, DD was up in the night again last night. I fed her and put her down in her cot and 3 times she started playing then crying. I freaked (out of tiredness) and told DH we would leave her (havent done that yet, always made sure she was sleepy/happy). She cried for 15 minutes - i went in about 5 times to shhh her - and then dropped straight off and slept until 6.30. I wouldnt dare post this on the sleep thread as she's only 4 months but we've decided to get a bit tougher with her... She was all smiles this morning

castlesintheair · 11/04/2007 07:35

Jabber, wondered if you can email me (don't want to bore others on this thread) with some details of how you went about repositioning therapy for DS1. I notice from past threads (did a search) that you had success with this. DD2 looks like she's getting a flat head (brachycephaly?). Try putting her on her side but she has always flipped onto her back when I check her again. Would be grateful for any advice castlesintheair at hotmail dot co dot uk. Know you are busy so thanks

AQ, at the moment I feel permanently dizzy with my deaf ear but "the other" dizzyness seems to have stopped . How are you going with the bf'ing? Noticed your other thread. FWIW, it bloody hurts me too. Have decided I'm just not designed for bf'ing but as this is my last I seem to be able to stick it out. I take it a week at time.

castlesintheair · 11/04/2007 07:39

x-posts glassslipper, good for you! If my DD2 wakes in the night it's very hard to get her to go back to sleep again. Luckily it doesn't happen often but if she does I'm up for the duration.

OP posts:
glassslipper · 11/04/2007 09:04

wow! This morning when she looked tired i put DD in her car seat. She cried for about 30 seconds then went to sleep!

Wonder if i've been a bit soft on her up until now?

Olihan · 11/04/2007 10:32

Ds2 suddenly seems to have hit a new phase of sleeping too. He had 2 good long sleeps yesterday during the day, went to bed at 6:45, woke at 8pm but didn't food so tried to cuddle him back to sleep, as did dh but he just kept fighting us and crying. Afetr 10 mins I got fed up, plonked him in his cot and he went staight to sleep . In the night he woke at 12am, 4am and 6am which is unheard of for him, and has now been back asleep for an hour and a half. Really hoping he carries it on but not that convinced he will.

Isn't it funny how suddenly they change routines? Now all I need is for him to start sleeping through the night .
