Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No idea LFM but I've had measles twice so it is possible to get things more than once!

Methinks ds is getting teeth. A bit ago he was very grizzly and my nipples noted a new pointy bit on the top right of his jaw. He has been a right grumpy pita the past couple of days and there is now a pointy bit on the top left. He has also been sick after going to bed again tonight. Actual sick not too full all coming up again sick. Just got him back down again after much crying, may bend the rules a little and give him a dose of paracetamol before I go to bed in the hopes of making him feel better. I hate it when he's grizzly like this he just clings to my neck as if I can make it all better but I can't

LowFatMilkshake · 29/03/2007 20:38

Indith I was wondering about teeth - cannot recall DD getting teeth so early, but then both children seemed to have melded into one in my mind. But DS is dribbling all the time, I took some pictures of him today and noted when I uploaded them to the PC how wet his shirt was - DD thinks it's hilarious and points laughing saying "look bubbles"

Indith · 29/03/2007 20:41

Tis odd so early, but something def moving in there those pointy bits were not there before! And trust me am intimately acquainted with them as ds loves to clamp down and shak his head around.

babypowder · 29/03/2007 20:46

Indith, at least the pointy bits are both on the top! It's such fun when they start coming in on the bottom too

babypowder · 29/03/2007 20:48

DD2 is also a terrible dribbler now, blowing bubbles whenever she sits up, and my shirt is always soaking after I've carried her for any length of time. But no teeth yet - YAY!

DD2 has learned the power of the smile in the last 2 days. From being a rather solemn child who smiled only if something was really worth it, she now smiles at and flirts with everybody she meets. It's great

DS is a smiler too BP!

Took him to GP a couple of weeks ago with a nasty cough and choking sounds. GP (lovely man) prodded him, listened to chest, DS made not a sound, but gave huge beaming gummy smiles to GP!

GP said if he was mine I would not be worried, and if he can still smile when an old duffer like me who he has never seen before is poking and prodding him then he is a healthy happy and content baby.

Obviuosly I was relieved, but honestly for all the rattling and snorting he does at home DS could have at least made some noise!

SachaF · 30/03/2007 08:50

Good morning all!
I was told if he bites to push him towards me as then he can't breathe and will let go
well, in the last few days the 50 min feeds seem to be reducing to 25-30mins (yay!), however initially i started worrying that he wasn't taking enough and would keep me up at night instead!
3rd night on his new mattress and from a 7.15 bedtime he woke at 10.20, 3.30 then 8am - now he's not been very interested in his brekky so time to express! I hope I can go to bed early again and get another 8 hours sleep tonight
dh came home from work just as I was putting him to bed at 11.30pm, so we got a nice half hour together as I had had 2 1/2 hrs sleep by then and wasn't all ratty! Fingers crossed for a repeat.

glassslipper · 30/03/2007 08:55

morning. grumpy day had by all in the glass house yesterday. reaction to 2nd jabs for ss2, threenagers for dd1, and tiredness for me.

fortunately we all had a good nights sleep last night so hopefully we wont have a repeat.

have a good day all.

SachaF · 30/03/2007 09:13

2nd jabs day for me today...
Well only got 1/2 oz by expressing so he is obviously getting more efficient at drinking - will out that in a milk bank bottle as 1/2 oz for them is useful whereas I would need many 1/2 oz's to make a spare feed!
He has learnt a new noise today, kind of like a high pitched cry but it seems to be in enjoyment , hope he quickly forgets how to make this as I keep thinking he is about to cry then look at him and he is fine.

LittleMissLate · 30/03/2007 09:37

Good morning! Nap time at the moment . DD has had 2nd lot of baby rice okay this morning and has been lovely and smiley (until she became overtired which is the cue to head upstairs...

BF is not going well at the mo she is being really funny about feeding from the left side - took her to GP and he couldn't find anything wrong (I wondered if she might have an ear infection or something). She will suck for a minute or two then just start screaming. When I switch her to the other side she is normally okay. My right side is getting all the demand - hope it can keep up! (I guess in theory it should be okay otherwise mums with twins would have probs). I'm expressing from the left a couple of times a day to try to keep supply going...

Indith · 30/03/2007 09:44

Morning!

Sacha I heard some really really strange whooping noises from ds the other night. At first I thought it must be people in the street but no it was him merrily making a racket in his sleep.

Speaking of sleep........

Resettle post sick 8.30
Feed 10.30 for 10 mins
Sleep 10.40-2.50
Fuss for an hour (in a baby asleep, go to bed, baby wake up kind of way)
Feed 10 mins.
Sleep til 7
feed and cuddle then sleep in bed with mummy til 8!

I can't believe it. I've had sleep. Actual real sleep!

After a short burst of happiness probably brought on by having sleep himself ds turned inconsolable again so he's gone to take books back to the library with dp and they are going to the chemists for teething gel on the way home. Poor little mite.

LowFatMilkshake · 30/03/2007 09:55

Morning Ladies!

I have finally started letting DS take his comfort blanket in the cot with him. Was a worried at first in case he covers his face - but apparently thats the way he likes it.

He likes the feel of the silky side on his face and has to hold it to get off to sleep. Also likes to suck on of the numerous tages around the edges. I am so pleased I was so particular about what type I bought!

DD is back to pre-school, YAY! It's nursery rhyme day nd she has gone is as Twinkle Twinkle - along with a third of the pre-school, another third are Incy Wincy, and the remainder have forgetfull or too tired parents . Mental note: must try to be a bit more original on future occassions!

Indith · 30/03/2007 13:36

Oh I really hope this is teething and not a new shiny prsonality for ds! When not asleep or feeding he is crying and his eyes are all puffy and red with big purple shopping bags under them.

Teething gel helped a bit earlier but don't want to use it too much as he isn't 3 months yet.

castlesintheair · 30/03/2007 13:41

Indith, I thought DD2 was teething 2 weeks ago. Showed all the signs etc but then she got a nasty cold. Could be that? Try some Calpol? Or Medised. If you don't like drugs, "Teetha" is wonderful. I use it alot (great for 2 yr old tantrums as well) but then I am a homeopathic freak as you might have gathered from past posts You can just get chamomilla in any form btw, it doesn't have to be Teetha.

castlesintheair · 30/03/2007 13:43

AQ, thanks for the post Nearly sorted out one afternoon a week time-off but, if I get it, appears it will have to used taking DS to "therapy". My old child-minder might have some space in May. Will try and hang-on until then.

margo1974 · 30/03/2007 13:54

You can use Teetha for tantrums?

castlesintheair · 30/03/2007 13:54

Indith · 30/03/2007 13:57

thanks castles I'll have a look for some teetha. Pretty sure it is teeth due to extra sharp bits but of course I've never seen a tething baby before! He had a cold a couple of weeks ago so I hope he's not getting another one just yet. Just really bad timing for essays and revision whatever it is!

babypowder · 30/03/2007 16:51

OK, this has absolutely nothing to do with new babies, but I need some advice.

My neighbour has alcohol dependency issues. She also has 2 children, a girl (6) and a boy (4). The kids haven't been at school all week.

This afternoon, my DD had her best friend over to play. The kids from next door came into our garden and played as well for a little while. Then their mum wandered in, drunk and bruised, and sat down IN MY HOUSE. She cooed all over DD2, followed me around, and helped herself to a bottle of wine from the rack.

DDs best friend's mum then arrived to pick up her daughter, to be greeted by this staggering Golum. Her husband is a teacher at the neighbour's kids school.

I'm just a normal person, you know? I don't know how to deal with this situation. And I don't know what to do with next door's kids, cos their mum is too drunk to care for them and their dad isn't home yet.

Any advice?

margo1974 · 30/03/2007 17:33

No advice bp, sorry. Poor child and poor mum

Olihan · 30/03/2007 17:44

Oh God BP, what a horrible situation for you to be in. How well do you know them? Could you approach the husband and talk to him or would you be seen to be interfering? If you can't talk to him I'd be very inclined to phone social services, or if you don't want to go that far then try the NSPCC who will deal with concerns re. children's welfare. My main concern, as I'm sure your's is, is for the children and whatever you do, I'd prioritise their needs over what the parents might think of you. It's so tricky living right next door to them but I'd imagine the kids are at fairly serious risk if the mum is regularly in that sort of state.

Indith · 30/03/2007 17:44

That is a horrible situation BP I wouldn't have a clue what to do I'm sorry.

Indith · 30/03/2007 17:45

Indith needs to learn to write her posts in a more helpful sounding manner. Listen to Oli she seems to have retained use of her brain

though.

babypowder · 30/03/2007 18:02

Thanks, everyone - sorry to spring something so horrible on everyone. I promise not to do it again - was just at my wits end.
