March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

Well she's making up on her sleep now, might have to wake her soon for a feed.

Found a sling library that's run on Mondays near me so will take a look next week

ChatEnOeuf · 05/04/2017 10:24

I second the sling library. I'm a bit of an addict - I have five different ones Blush I'm using a stretchy for newborn days, which is a life saver for being able to spend time with DD1 and keep DD2 close where she wants to be.

DD1 was back at birth weight by 10 days, DD2 has been slower, but was 4oz over by D20.

BFing here - always hungry!

MotherofA · 05/04/2017 11:47

Ah Carol I hope things have settled down for you now !
All this reading about slings has made me want one now , going to take a look later

Carolann8584 · 05/04/2017 12:35

Mother first day by myself my OH went back to work today. My DD still very unsettled. At Nana's house now. What a shock she's settled! Hoping she will nap this afternoon so I can as well 🤞

bobbis · 05/04/2017 12:36

I was looking into slings too... Has anyone ever breastfed on the go with one and can recommend a brand?
I was making cereal one handed for DS with DD in the other feeding the other morning, there has to be an easier way!?
With laundry...I don't know what I'd do without my tumble dryer. Between my OH, dirt magnet 4yo and the baby I'm swamped.
DD has gone from 5lb 4 to 6lb 9 in 3 weeks, definitely the right call by the doctor to induce her early.
dolerite I'm not hungrier but I'm so thirsty all the time

Daphnedown · 05/04/2017 15:12

I have a stretchy wrap - didn't have one with my first but finding it so handy this time round. I haven't tried feeding in it yet though!

Still have a very unsettled little lady, she's very trumpy wonder if she's uncomfortable with trapped wind.

Quite looking forward to going to the sling library on Monday. They loan them out for £5 a fortnight which I think is brill especially if she's just going through a phase

MotherofA · 05/04/2017 22:36

Ah Carol bless your heart ! My LO is quite unsettled too although in phases of one extreme to another . I tried the magic baby hold mentioned by Name and within around 30 seconds she was silent and almost asleep !! Although it took a long time of holding her like this for her to settle in her bouncer. Grin

NameChange30 · 05/04/2017 23:34

Ah I'm so glad it worked Mother! Smile

DS just did an explosive poo that leaked out of his nappy and onto my clean PJs Sad Not on the expensive rug though thank God!

Carolann8584 · 07/04/2017 07:39

How is everyone today and their LOs?

HAPPY FRIDAY Grin

Daphnedown · 07/04/2017 08:16

I am feeling great after a 3 hour stretch of sleep! Happy Friday all.

Carolann8584 · 07/04/2017 10:14

Wow 3 hours so jealous

My LO has a steady 2 sleep 1 hour awake pattern during the night. Think my body clock is getting use to the pattern Grin

MotherofA · 07/04/2017 13:44

Hi everyone and happy Friday !

I definitely think we have a tad of colic here as my LO is v unsettled at dinner time (typical) we use infacol and the magic baby hold works wonders Smile . We go three hours sometimes four in the night but it can take an hour for her to go back off .

Four weeks today and I am wearing a pair of jeans although I feel a bit squidgy haha x

I ventured into a pair of early pregnancy stretchy jeans, they kept falling down so might brave normal jeans when I have a minute to find them in the bottom of the wardrobe, weighed myself this morning was pleasantly surprised by the results, gained 16.5lbs during pregnancy and lost 20.5lbs since LO was born so actually below my prepregnancy weight 💃🕺💃🕺

purpleviolet1 · 07/04/2017 18:14

Not posted for a few days but things generally better, I'm getting to 'know' him now. He has been more settled since having just the formula milk and at nights he is feeding and mostly going straight back down thankfully. Pattern tends to be 3 - 4 hourly feeds with a bit of cluster feeding at some point.

Nice to hear everyone else getting on ok Smile

Hi all, this could be a silly question, but how are you managing night time nappy changes?
We're finding it difficult to time it right. When he's asleep we don't want to wake him to change it. When he wakes up it's because he's hungry and he gets very upset if we change his nappy instead of feeding him straight away. He usually feeds until he falls back to sleep and then we don't want to change and wake him... Problem is we don't want to leave his nappy too long because then it leaks, usually onto our bed Sad

Carolann8584 · 08/04/2017 08:52

I've been changing her while she's stirring just before feed, I find if I put a her blanket under her head so it doesn't touch the mat she doesn't fully wake or do her usual " get those cold wipes away from me" screams

Carolann8584 · 08/04/2017 08:56

Oh I gave making her bottles in advance another try. No projectile or spit ups, last night she ate at 1:30, 5:30 and 8:30 soooooo much easier, plus went straight back to sleep after Grin

Daphnedown · 08/04/2017 09:26

Name we either do before feeding or halfway through the feed to wake him up a bit! I have a very sleepy baby though.

purpleviolet1 · 08/04/2017 11:53

Name, we do it after feed or middle of the feed if he needs waking up. He doesn't tend to wake up if it's after feed, just stirs and stretches a bit. Then we swaddle him and put him down!

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 08/04/2017 13:04

Thanks all! I think we will try changing him when he starts stirring - it just means we have to be alert and wake up quickly enough to do it, which I was managing at the beginning but struggling with now! (SO sleep deprived Sad) Otherwise mid-feed might work. I don't think it will work to change him after a feed if he's fallen asleep because he does wake up. He's been sleeping pretty lightly and for less time over the last couple of days Confused I've cracked and decided to fork out for a Sleepyhead to see if that helps!

purpleviolet1 · 08/04/2017 17:03

What are your lo feeding patterns like? We are mostly 4oz 3 hourly now although it used to be 4 hourly. Sometimes though he will have 2 oz every 2 hours instead, quite confusing when he jumps between but I'm learning to just offer him a feed if he is unsettled and getting a bit better at predicting when I need to get feed ready but as you say namechange it's more difficult at night when you are trying to sleep instead of constantly watching for cues !

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 08/04/2017 18:22

We're the same now 4oz every 3 hours, she only woke once during the night for a feed and went straight back down after.

Just had a hectic afternoon. My SILs came round they have 7 children between them, everyone of them loud, spoilt and reckless with toys. We normally only see them at Nana's house or their houses so we can just leave but coz they were at our house I couldn't escape
