So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

I think that the perfect prep is amazing ! DD also quite noisy and squeaky hehe .

MotherofA · 30/03/2017 13:48

Oh we were late for school the first two days I did the school run but seem to have a routine now she says....

doleritedinosaur · 30/03/2017 20:03

That happened the first time we went out hugh had to take newborn to hospital to get checked out & took 2 adults, toddler & newborn 2 hours & we were still half hour late.
Would have been 20 minutes but lift was broken & I had to do stairs with car seat & barely 24 hours after giving birth wah.

It has gotten easier though & now I just keep changing bags packed & sling to hand.

Hope everyone is doing okay.

We've got our first trip away on Monday for OH's birthday, for 4 nights. I'm excited & dreading it at the same time.

DS is really snuffly which is handy for when he wakes up for a feed as he doesn't cry to wake me up. Quite handy to know when he's still breathing, haha. He's now out of his up to 1 month baby gros & in 0-3. Is also a month old on Monday.
Is anyone else wondering where the time is going?

Carolann8584 · 30/03/2017 20:30

My little one is a week old today Smile

purpleviolet1 · 30/03/2017 20:35

Mine is 15 days old and moved from newborn to 0-3months!

What are people doing with gifts? We have been lucky to receive money and clothes from many friends and family. Going to put the money into a savings account (unless anyone has any recommendations?). As for the clothes some are not to my taste/ already have enough of that particular size so thinking of returning/swapping for other sizes. They come from such a range of shops though that I can't see myself getting to town!!!

Mine is a week old tomorrow and only just starting to grow out of Tiny Baby.
We didn't receive any money but we would have probably opened her an ISA if we did. We got quite lucky with the clothes as we made friends and family aware of our dislike for pink from the beginning. Problem is she has a ton of clothes she won't fit into for a while as she was a lot smaller than we expected! Do you have a while left to return/exchange?

MotherofA · 30/03/2017 22:07

We got a small amount of money which we will put in her ISA. I took a couple of bits and kept a couple just for in the house as they aren't really my taste.
DD is 3 weeks tomorrow and still in most of her up to 1 month stuff . I've put her in a couple of 0-3 bits and had to turn sleeves up . Can't wait for them to fit but at the same time don't want her to grow!
Hugh or any other c sections how are you healing ? I'm in pain still quite strong on my right side and swollen . Need to ring the docs tomorrow but I know they will only have a nurse available.

LottieL · 30/03/2017 22:24

Mother - my little one is 2 weeks today and I have absolutely no pain from the CS now. I think I overdid it a lot early on though as when they came to take out my staples I'd pulled and twisted a load of them already as I went. I'm not sure what to suggest really as I don't think I've done anything in particular that might have helped healing along, but I'm hoping for a swift recovery for you 🙂

We've been given a load of outfits for our daughter and I find myself not using them (and feeling awful about it!!) as she spends a lot of her time in sleepsuits, which are just so much easier to change her in! I think I'm a lazy mum where fashion is concerned! 😁

With regards to money we have a little moneybox for cash that we've been given for her, but we are going to setup a bank account eventually and put it all in there. We have been very lucky in that her great-great grandmother has gifted her a sum of money for future so we are going to put that in an ISA for her, at her GGM's request.

doleritedinosaur · 30/03/2017 23:19

Lottie is definitely not lazy, I learnt from DS1 that sleep suits are easier up until 6 months. Especially nappy changing wise.

In regards to gifts I've exchanged some stuff for older sizes & money has gone into a bank account for him as we finally also opened DS1's.

I know with Next you can exchange for as long as you want if the tag is on there but it's only to current value of the item.

Could you do a bit at a time purple? I know how overwhelming it is getting outside though.

DS is really sleeping tonight, just waking up for a feed then crashing. Hope that doesn't mean he'll be up at the early hours.

Carolann8584 · 31/03/2017 08:44

Ok so tackling nights feeds with ready made aptamil so things are going a lot smoother.

Went to visit both nanas yesterday, DD was due a feed when we got to nana 1 so made before we left so nana could feed her. By the time I got to nana 2 DD was an hour away from her next feed plus 30 minutes from home and bottles etc. What can I do in this situation? Don't ready want to rely on the readymixed bottles for this as well. I can keep the right amount of powder in a small tub but if I take the empty bottle out of the steriliser how do I keep it that way til needed?

Wound -*

purpleviolet1 · 31/03/2017 17:00

Mother - wound is mostly ok, sore when moving around but generally healed well, superficially at least. Not taking the tramadol anymore and just taking paracetamol as and when required. Ds is 16 days old today. Hope you managed to get checked out.

Had a tough night. Ds had his feed at 10.30pm and was unsettled until 1.15am, then woke for next feed at 2am and was unsettled and finally settled at 4.30am. By the time
I had expressed i was absolutely exhausted and felt totally overwhelmed. I was ready in anticipation for his next feed from 6.30am but because he had a topup at 4am when we couldn't work out why he was crying so much he didn't actually wake up until 8.30am. I gave up around 7.30am and tried to sleep. Luckily dh did the next few feeds so I managed some stop start sleep from 7.30am - 2.30pm although it was very broken. The exhaustion totally got the better of me and I've been a bit teary. My mum tells me this is completely normal. He is an angel throughout the day, feeds, burps and sleeps straight away. If he is awake he is settled and it's absolutely fine. The unsettled periods through the night mean he just cries and cries. Even if he stops it only lasts for a few minutes and then starts again. I just find the crying very intense during the night. I would prefer it if he had those moments during the day and feeding was relatively calm at night Sad

We've been using infacol which seems to help bring the wind up but a few people recommended the colocynth crystals. Not managed to locate them in any local boots though and I think they can only be used after 1 month. Also tried to get some colief and optibac probiotics (I took antibiotics throughout the pregnancy and taking them just now too) but never managed to find them in local stores! So will order online.

Anyone used any of these?

Carolann8584 · 31/03/2017 20:09

Thanks mother how do you keep them sterile? How long do they stay sterile once taken out of the steriliser?

MotherofA · 01/04/2017 08:34

Purple thanks for the info ! Also your lo sounds very similar to mine ! We are also using infacol and having unsettled periods at night . I have found that she winds better but just sitting her upright no back rubbing etc , also have you tried the bicycle legs to relieve tummy ache etc ? My lo is also very content in the day time lol.
Carol I would definitely say a few hours although I just read online 24 hours, you may want to have a search . I do have a great baby book downstairs so I'll see if anything is in there and keep you posted . Smile

MotherofA · 01/04/2017 08:34

By * not but

MotherofA · 01/04/2017 12:17

Hey Carol I just checked my book and sorry nothing is said about how long a bottle is sterile once assembled and out of the steriliser . It does say though that making up bottles in advance is fine Smile

Carolann8584 · 01/04/2017 15:09

Thanks motherofa

My LO has just projectile vomited right down my top 😣 I don't think she likes the ready mixed formula once it's been in the fridge. Poor thing-its the first time she's cried with an actual tear

LottieL · 01/04/2017 15:33

Purple - hugs Flowers my LO is awful for winding. I can wind her for an hour, sometimes longer and she won't get any wind up, then will suddenly projectile vomit up a feed. We've had her on infacol & colief, both of which don't help but she's never crying with the trapped wind, so maybe there isn't any! I took her to an out of hours GP today and they said it sounded like reflux, and have prescribed us infant gaviscon.

It does sound rough though, and I'm so sorry you are steeling teary today, I was the same earlier as LO came up with face spots and on top of the vomiting I panicked it was something sinister. Try not to let it overwhelm you, you are doing amazing ❤️

Carolann - we had the same when we tried our LO on formula to begin with. Apparently any change in feed, for e.g. Going from breast to formula or ready made formula to powder formula can make babies vomit as it hits their stomachs differently and so makes them force it back up, or so a midwife told us. I've been thrown up on three times in the last 12 hours, so I feel your pain! Also the link I provided up thread says you can store feeds for up to 24 hours in the fridge so I would assume you can keep bottles sterile for that long so long as you keep the cap over the teat.

Carolann8584 · 01/04/2017 15:59

Thanks lottie we got some ready made for when we go out etc. We had half a bottle left over so thought we would use it before it needed throwing away

Same here Hugh, my LO throws up everywhere - all over herself, me, the sofa - and then looks at me like I'm mental because I've stopped the feed to change her / myself. In fact, she looks positively indignant! 😂 We've had two feeds on infant gaviscon now and hardly any wind has come up, but (touch wood) no vomiting!

Carolann8584 · 01/04/2017 18:36

My DD managed to aim down my top directly into my bra!

Has anybody on here had a tear 3 during labour? Was told to have showers not baths but with everything else going on I forgot to pay attention to how long I couldn't have a bath for Confused

NameChange30 · 01/04/2017 18:40

Carol
I had an episiotomy, it says second degree tear in my notes. I think the doctor said no baths for 6 weeks although I did forget and have a short bath with DS the other day! There was no bubble bath or anything though. And it seems to be healing ok (touch wood) - how about yours?
