March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

For those who have their DC tongue tie snip. Did you take a full feed with you or a smaller one?

Carolann8584 · 17/05/2017 13:37

purple my DD has done that and she hasn't even had her jabs yet! It's worse than going up the back as you don't have a belly button to deal with Hmm

NameChange30 · 17/05/2017 13:38

carol
Sorry can't answer that as I've been breastfeeding... maybe you could take two small bottles so she can have both if she's hungry and just one if she's not??
Good luck, I was nervous about it but it was so straightforward and DS cried a bit but calmed down straight away.

troodiedoo · 17/05/2017 13:43

We've been having poonamis since birth. It's funny when it happens to dh. Not so much to me at 4am Grin

troodiedoo · 17/05/2017 13:45

Good luck carol. Hope it makes a difference, everyone says it does.

Carolann8584 · 17/05/2017 18:02

Well all done, she didn't cry after the procedure. They took her to a different room to do it so I didn't see it being done.

She slept on the way home but is now awake but clearly tired and fighting going back to sleep. Keeps rubbing her eyes and making little noises to herself to stay awake.

mightymouse76 · 18/05/2017 01:04

Thanks purple, and big reap

mightymouse76 · 18/05/2017 01:21

Thanks purple, and big respect for your victory! This truly is the most insane week of my life so far...

We are considering private for tie-even maybe laser? I understand it sutures as it cuts. It was also recommended we see a cranial osteopath if not before and after, then within 24 hours of the cut to help re-align muscles and tendons. I'll be getting the lactation consultant back after too (best £50 I've ever spent so far although this is all getting super expensive at lightening speed).

So this morning I tried the new sleepyhead but within 5 mins boy had projectile vomited over it Confused... covers only just out of wash so will try again shortly if only to free myself up for a wee without having to wake DP!

Infacol started too-hoping its helping-there has been marginally less screaming in the last hour than yesterday afternoon which was a fractious one

On the help front, after a few days on our own we now have a run of visitors. His auntie on DP side came today and it was wonderful. I badly swaddled him, handed him over, and he slept on her for 2 magical hours whilst I had my first proper wash since hospital. Today's visitor, a friend and mum of 2 is due around 9 and I'm sure as hell going to try handover and blag some sleep back today!

Counting down the hours till my next dose of pain relief...Wink
Thanks so much for your support
x

mighty

Glad you got a bit of a break Smile

There is some info on scissors v laser here:
sarahoakleylactation.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/tongue-tie-booklet-version-3.pdf
We got DS's tongue tie divided privately as it was quicker and closer to home than the NHS option. Scissors not laser, though.

Oh yes, we've washed the Sleepyhead covers a lot! Mainly because of nappy leaks as DS seems to be a heavy wetter. We have been laying a muslin inside it, as that will catch small dribbles and leaks, at least. It is annoying when the cover's drying and we can't use the Sleepyhead, but I refuse to buy a spare one as they're so bloody expensive!

purpleviolet1 · 19/05/2017 11:17

How is everyone's sections? I'm still quite sore when I'm moving around.

NameChange30 · 19/05/2017 12:38

carol How's your DD been doing since her TT was snipped? Have you noticed any difference when she has a bottle, any less wind?

mighty How are you and your DS?

purple Sorry you're still sore, hope it eases soon.

We are off to France tomorrow! Visiting the in-laws. I'm feeling a bit nervous about the journey, I'm sure it will be fine, but knackering! Also really need to pack and do a few other jobs, so I'm praying DS will have a long enough nap this afternoon for me to get on with it!

purpleviolet1 · 19/05/2017 13:04

Good on you namechange! Enjoy your trip. I can't even think about travelling yet... this reflux is a nightmare. He is constantly miserable Sad not sleeping properly and one feed to the next is just non stop crying. Got GP appt this afternoon.

Carol- hope the TT is successful Smile

purple sorry your LO is still suffering hope all goes well at your GPs and he can get some relief

name enjoy your holiday Smile

purpleviolet1 · 19/05/2017 14:29

Have you noticed any difference carol?

Been crying since 10 and tried to nod off multiple times but is just uncomfortable. Really hope we can get on top of this Sad feel like it's never ending and wondering how we will cope long term

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 19/05/2017 14:58

Yeah, she would take in air when she spat formula out from the sides of her mouth when feeding especially when she was tired, which would leave her in quite a mess, now she doesn't so less wind. Still using Infacol but cutting down the amount given and only on every other feed now so hoping she won't need it again after the weekend

Carolann8584 · 19/05/2017 14:59

How did you get on at your GPs purple

purpleviolet1 · 19/05/2017 16:31

Not good, got to be keep persevering. She said ranitidine can take up to 6 weeks to work ShockSad I don't know how I'm going to manage. Got a follow up appt for 2 weeks time

Thanks all, although I wouldn't exactly describe it as a holiday Wink Still, PILs will feed us so it will be nice for DH and I to have a break from cooking and washing up (mostly DH, since he's been doing all most of it).

purple Hang on in there Flowers

Carolann8584 · 19/05/2017 21:48

Flowers purple hope you DS starts to feel better soon 🤞

purpleviolet1 · 20/05/2017 00:04

Thanks ladies. Ive checked the BNF myself and he has been prescribed the lowest dose. Really cross with the registrar.. don't think she got the situation at all. Expecting me to carry on for another 5 weeks like this! I'll have jumped off a cliff by then. I'm going to phone docs on Monday and increase the dose to 0.6ml in the meantime. He was prescribed 0.3ml (lowest recommended dose) but he can have up to 1ml ! Quite a big difference. I even asked her if we could increase the dose and she said he was on the right dose for his weight, and not to increase until he got over 6kg.

Hi everyone - desperately need some advice please.....

My 8week old isn't sleeping longer than 30mins on his own during the day so I can't get much done and can't catch up on any sleep in this time!

He sleeps well at night (although still feeding 3ish oz every 2 hours) - sleeps for 2, feeds, sleeps for 2 etc until about 4ish when he makes a hell of a noise trying to get out wind and ends up crying and waking himself up (I've resorted to earplugs!!). I then put him on my bed next to me which helps.

In the day I get him into a deep sleep on me for about 20/30mins (swaddled because his reflex is very strong and will wake him up after no time) then put him in his basket but he always wakes up after 30mins!!

I've tried what I think is everything.....bouncy chair, dark room, light room, quiet room, noisy room, making him stay awake longer, putting him down after being awake a shorter time, still in the buggy, being pushed in the buggy, hoovering around him, constant white noise (that's driving me nuts!!) etc etc. I've resorted to a dummy to get him off when he fights the sleep (which he always does in the day) and that's definitely helps him settle but doesn't make him sleep any longer!

What is everyone else doing? Am I missing something?! Really struggling with it all as it's so relentless and everyday day merges into one! X

Carolann8584 · 20/05/2017 15:21

Nicky how is he with baths? My DD sleeps really well after hers, if she has a big feed after she sleeps 5 sometimes 6 hours. We also have a swing when she doesn't want to lay flat in her Moses.

She also has days where she just doesn't nap so I really feel for you if that's what it's like for you everyday.

Carolann8584 · 20/05/2017 15:22

On a separate note AF arrived yay Hmm

I have my hospital appointment Tuesday I hope they don't want to do a check on how I'm healing while I'm on Blush

Nicky2468 · 20/05/2017 15:35

Thanks Carolann8584 - yes he loves baths (hates getting out) and I give him one every night, then feed him have a quick sing and he falls asleep well. Maybe I should try one in the morning too?!! What swing do you use - haven't looked into those?!
