March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

Which apps are you guys using??

So dh had ds last night again but ds was unsettled from 10-12 and then he didn't wake for his feed at 2 but instead woke at 3, think he was over hungry and then drank too fast and was unsettled until 6! So a bad night overall. Hope he hasn't taken a step backwards in terms of the days and nights. We also agreed to offer him 5oz yesterday so the 10pm was the first 5oz feed so maybe that had ds a little uncomfortable too.

Happy Easter Monday everyone!

Mines called baby tracking, it's great. It's free for 14 days then £3.82 but well worth it Smile

Carolann8584 · 17/04/2017 10:05

Sorry baby tracker

troodiedoo · 17/04/2017 10:17

Mine is called baby manager which makes me laugh every time I open it. I'm only tracking feeds though.

I've received a letter for an appointment to assess if my DD is tongue tied. She isn't being breast fed, and I think my supply has stopped anyway. Do I still need to go to the appointment? She doesn't have trouble feeding from the bottle, she sometimes doesn't open her mouth wide enough so spits some formula back out but gets the hang of it after a couple of tries and finishes her feeds 90% of the time.

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 14:07

Carol I really think you should go. Tongue tie can affect bottle feeding as well as breastfeeding, and it can also create speech difficulties later on. And it's much more straightforward to fix when they're babies.

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 14:15

Some useful info on the assessment here:
www.tongue-tie.org.uk/Mobile/m-tongue-tie-information.html

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 14:17

"Bottle-fed babies can have difficulty in creating a good seal on the teat which can result in ineffective sucking. This may lead to milk leaking out of their mouths and them swallowing air, resulting in a ‘windy’ baby."

Carolann8584 · 17/04/2017 14:23

Thanks name I'll keep the appointment.

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 14:25

Phew Smile Hope it goes well x

Somebody has gifted us this and it's great! Just started using it and it's helping loads. I didn't realise how much energy I was using trying to remember when he last fed and how much he had..

I'm trying to persuade DS to use a dummy, as he's started to be difficult about going down in his cot. Does anyone have any tips for enticing him to use it? At the moment he just makes a face and spits it out!

purpleviolet1 · 17/04/2017 15:02

No tips just got to keep trying he will eventually take it when he manages to learn how to 'latch' onto the nipple!

We tried the tommy tippee ones and got him used to those but he has the dr brown bottles and so I ordered the dr brown dummies which are meant to be better and trying to get him used to those now. He gets a bit frantic but as Hugh said just tap the dummy to encourage him to latch. Takes a few goes but gets there eventually! Apparently they do spit out as the muscles relax but as they grow older the mouth holds the dummy better.

Thanks all I will persevere. It would be amazing if he would take it as at the moment he needs motion to fall asleep, which is rather exhausting!

Carolann8584 · 17/04/2017 17:07

My LO only has her dummy when she's being fussy and not settling, spits it out a few times (which I'm sure she thinks is a game, gives a cheeky smile sometimes)

MotherofA · 17/04/2017 18:09

I use the Baby + app I think it was around £2.99 maybe less and I log feeds and nappies . I did log sleep at first but that was too much faff.
It's crazy because it always feels like an hour since I fed her then I check and it's been 3. Makes me wonder wtf I did ten years ago with DD!
Omg Hugh you bloody super woman that's amazing you must be knackered though . Are your other two good ?
The colicky/ wind situation is really tough , the magic baby hold mentioned before really helps our LO or being over my shoulder that works well . I think it is improving slowly .
We use a dummy but she spits it out / loses it then cried and fights to get it back in so it's kind of a hindrance although she does like it to doze off with .
So I've had an excruciating pain come back now on the left side whereas it was always on the right before . I dosed up on painkillers last night and today but it was still agony so we went to the walk in centre . The doctor said she can feel "something " in my stomach maybe a cyst or lymph node or something else .... she prescribed some strong pain killers and said I have to contact GP for a scan referral .... I'm shitting myself lol .
LO just had a 4oz feed , I wonder how long she will go now hehe .
Oh did you all know TU at Sainsbury's has 25% off all clothing ? They have the most stunning baby stuff too Grin

Carolann8584 · 17/04/2017 18:59

How long do your LOs nap for?

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 19:12

Lately he's had quite a few 2 hour naps, he also sleeps for 3 hours about once or twice in a 24h period. But we have had days when he's only slept for 30 mins - 1 hour at a time Confused

Carolann8584 · 17/04/2017 19:18

Mines the same, she's been fussy today so had naps for 30mins to an hour. Just put her in her Moses as she doesn't want to be held, her bouncer, or donut cushion. She's still fussy and wingey

Daphnedown · 17/04/2017 19:53

Mine wants to sleep all day! But obviously only in a moving pram, sling, being held.

NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 19:55

DS has definitely been sleeping better since we cracked and bought a ridiculously overpriced Sleepyhead. He still falls asleep on us (usually after a feed) but doesn't usually wake up when we put him in it. (Touch wood - fingers crossed that it continues!)

MotherofA · 17/04/2017 20:00

At home maybe an hour or two in bouncy chair or crib but in car seat or pram she would much longer , same with being on our chest .
