I think those first few weeks after a birth are alot like you feel after the death of a loved one. I know it sounds mad and don't shoot me down I know some bits are joyful etc but you are on auto pilot you are lacking in sleep, you worry about the future and your head is totally mashed.

ledodgyDave · 04/03/2007 20:47

Oh yeah and you ahve laods of people you don't normally see all year turning up at your house!

The one that gets me is when they endlessly wake each other up, like that weird feedback effect you get in public address systems, A cries because B is crying, then B cries because A is crying, which makes A cry more, which sets off B........

ledodgy..pmsl at the people not seen for ages turning up..thats the bit I hate..friends I see all the time fab as they dont care if I am covered in puke and forgot to put my bra on or brush my hair..however those you dont see look at you and you can see them thinking "bloody hell shes let herself go"

brimfull · 04/03/2007 20:50

I would have another if I was younger,I adore babies

ledodgyDave · 04/03/2007 20:51

I remmeber lying in a bath full of tea tree oil reading that NHS birth to five book and suddenly being overwhelmed bby responsibility and panicking what would happen if I died or dp died or my new baby died it was horrific.

haha Nemo I rmemeber with my first my Aunty (the one that I never see) turned up and as she was leaving I looked down at my sweatshirt and I had two huge wet patches from forgtting to put my breast apds on! I also answered the door to the postman and signed for a parcel realising when i shut the door that I had one boob hanging out of my bf nighty!

ledodgyDave · 04/03/2007 20:54

Cod yes I cna guess you cna't win you hate it when they don;t sleep and when you do you either get up every half an hour to check they're breathing or sleep through yourself because you're so tired and when you wake up get that huge sinking feeling that something has happened to them!

welliemum · 04/03/2007 20:55

absolutely, cod.

It's scary when they don't sleep, it's scary when they do sleep...

magnolia1 · 04/03/2007 20:56

So glad this was posted, ds1 is 13 weeks and we are still in the newborn, no sleep, always feeding, in pj's all day stage

tribpot · 04/03/2007 21:00

If it helps, magnolia, I am currently remembering how ds fell asleep for 4 hours literally minutes after the last Harry Potter book was delivered to me - he was merely weeks old at the time. Now I am wondering how in heck I might find time to read the final book. Have more sleep (just!) but less time (massively!). PJs in the middle of the day are tres chic this year, trust me.

tribpot one of the HP books came out just after i'd had dd I used to read it whilst bf and then had the inspired idea to read it to her when she wasn't feeding it kept her quiet and me happy!

lol, I wish cod but with 4 other kids a bath is a luxury, I have to have a shower round my mums while she keeps them entertained!
I do noramlly get dressed but today have just sat and fed, and fed, and fed and the little blighter will still feed all night

magnolia1 · 04/03/2007 21:05

x post Dh would leave me if I have #6!!!! And isn't sex needed for that

welliemum · 04/03/2007 21:06

Agree about the bath. dd1 found the splashing noises very soothing and would drop off for a few minutes. The only problem was that she'd wake up as soon as the splashing stopped.... so I spent all my baths desperately splashing. To this day, I feel odd wallowing quietly in the bath.

ledodgyDave · 04/03/2007 21:06

Definately Cod. You realise when you have your second ( my first was 2.5 at the time )that once the first few months are over and before they get to the I want to be mobile stage it's very easy compared to toddlerdum and you'll wonder why you thought babies were hard. Hindsight is a brilliant thing lol!

magnolia I have a pj day most wednesdays!!!! I wish I could the other days but have to take Ds to playgroup. DD1[14mths] and DD2[2mths] stay in pjs for that run though.

ledodgyDave · 04/03/2007 21:07

Oh sorry Mag I assumed ds was your first. You could teach me a thing or too!

welliemum · 04/03/2007 21:08

Well, I would feel odd quietly wallowing in the bath..... if I was ever allowed to have a bath by myself [sigh].

magnolia1 · 04/03/2007 21:08

lol thats ok. To be honest after 4 girls finally having a boy it feels like a first all over again
