hi there
dd watching mickey mouse clubhouse which gives me time!!!! dd2 asleep......longer than her usual 10 min stretch

sorry i've not been posting much. all is ok here. dd enjoying school and generally playing with her friends and neighbours. very nice. she has been able to recognise the initial letter of her name for sometime, n, and dd2's c, and also d for daddy, m for mummy. she can recognise numbers 1-9, although not everytime and counts to 14 before it goes 'sifteen, nineteen, funteen, sisteen, etc....' tee hee she can't write any letters or numbers. well i guess she could do number 1 and 0 if i asked her to. they are also pretty hot on letter and numbers here in singapore at preschool. my only problem is she recognises capitals as that is what is at the beginning of the names she recognises. hmmmm. they also teach them the abc song at school and i'm also not so sure thats the way to go being completely NOT phonic based.

she's going to the british school in sept!

we did have a good time in uk, yes thanks. did i post this already. just the travelling which was a nightmare. the actual plane was the easy bit. going through airports and travelling too and from were the hardest parts.

glad to be back though. i am starting to get a bit of routine with dd2, who is going to bed between 7 and 8 although still waking 1 or 2 times a night. we did have an 8-4am stretch 3 nights back, but thats unlikely to happen again it seems!

make the most of your nights away from the children helsy, it is horrid in a way but wonderful in another! i wouldnt mind it right now. finding it all a bit manic especially meals and bedtimes. proved i can do it on my own though....whether dh is here or not, which is another issue.

where's pepperabbit?

OP posts:
bozza · 28/06/2007 10:55

Yes where is pepperrabbit? Funny that she has not been around for so long. Glad you seem to be getting there a bit with the DDs now egypt. Is DH not around a lot? Mine has gone to Cardiff today so will not be back tonight. Although he did the cleaning yesterday when he was supposed to be doing some calls in Sheffield. I have been having nightmare journeys to work this week because of the floods and the road I work on is still officially closed, so I have been detouring through the steelworks - but you have to be on the lookout for a trainload of steel bearing down on you! Helsy it is great having friends to reciprocate - it has been a lifesaver for me with not having family nearby for things like picking DS up from school if the childminder is off or whatever.

I hope you enjoy York. I was thinking about going at the weekend but it is a bit dependent on the weather which is not looking very good.

Judd · 28/06/2007 22:28

yay! Inlaws are going to have both children to stay in the hols from a Weds to the Sunday! DH very seriously said that we should not go overboard and perhaps go camping for a couple of nights. An hour later, I find him googling the Malmaison Hotel ! I want to go to Jongleurs now that Helsy has mentioned it and laugh at some pure, adult filth rather than just giggling along whilst DD reads about a bear with frilly knickers on its head, or DS hilariously singing "Old McDonald had a poo" yet again....
Nothing else much happening. Did I say I had a little job - 1 day a week - very flexible, can do it days or evenings depending on where DS is. However, it's very very busy at the moment and I'm really doing every available minute. I do like the getting paid though, I'd forgotten how ace it was!

Egypt · 29/06/2007 04:44

must admit i chuckled at your ds's little song judd!

but YOU LUCKY THING YOU, 4 whole nights to yourselves. and days too of course. we did jongleurs a few yrs back, pre kids. very good.

was sposed to be going out shopping for some swimwear for me, as my current bottoms have gotten so thin you can see through them. . dh didnt notice mind..... but the car battery is flat for the 2nd time this week. sommit to do with me not shutting the boot properly i think and the light staying on.

ooo onehanded typing = arm ache.

dh is away a bit yes, but often its more to do with him playing footy or sitting on the sofa with the laptop whilst i try to juggle 2 kids and dinner. he'll help if asked but its one of those 'welll i shouldnt have to ask' situations

I'm here!!!!!! I'd like to thank the lovely people at BT Broadband for making this possible, and boo hiss to talk talk for being utterly utterly pants. I cannot believe it can take 2 months to change provider successfully. Mumsnet is almost the first place I've logged on to - Tesco was my first love though! We've been living hand to mouth waiting to be able to do a shop online - how sad is that! I'm sure we ate before internet groceries existed, just not sure how....
So, obviously DS1 is now 3, obviously his birthday was pretty much the last day it didn't rain constantly. DS2 has been very poorly and was hospitalised with pneumonia which was more traumatic than I ever thought it could be. Work's going OK and I'm picking up an extra day a week over the summer while nursery is quiet and before we start pre-school so some much needed cash there.
And we have planning permission for our extension which brings us one step closer to the utter misery that is Builders In The House For Months On End. Can't wait.
Everyone else seems well, I haven't read the whole thread yet (terrified internet may crash before I posted, like some kind of PTSD).
I'll catch up and post more specifically soon - it;s soooo good to be back! I can't believe how much you can miss daily chit chat with people you've never met!

Egypt · 30/06/2007 13:31

as if by magic the rabbit appears.....

HI YOU! lovely to see you back. Poor DS2, tell us the details please?? is he ok now? How long did he have to be in hosp for? And well done on the extension. We never could get permission for ours. Conservation area and all that rubbish. Hmph.

Have you noticed I am typing with capitals? Going to try and make a concerted effort to. Might even get round to typing full sentences sometime too...we'll see how long that lasts.

Why doesn't DD like shopping? I get DS. He is not interested in clothes, thinks shopping is boring, but is quite happy to spend ages looking at the footballs in his favourite shop (JJB) . But DD is such an utterly girly little thing, obsessed by princesses, pink and clothes. So why does she do silly things like swinging off my arm or crawling around the shop the whole time? We've been shopping today in case you hadn't guessed. We went to York and in the Railway Museum and then round the shops and then onto the city walls for a bit. There was a huge storm when we were on the park and ride bus so we had to shelter in the bus stop at the car park for a while.

Who is still using a pushchair? We haven't used DD's for months so you think she would be used to it by now. And she is fine around the village, walking DS to school etc. It is just shopping.

pepperrabbit · 02/07/2007 20:13

Anyone else spent the evening shouting like a fishwife at their children?
Grrrrrrr they were driving me mad How many times can you tell one child (DS1) not to use the potty when we're all upstairs? and the other one to leave the bloody thing alone???
Why go paddling??? why why why.???? carpet soaked, DH working late, everything smells of piss and the bloody cat has an abcess and I still have to give her antibiotics, then bathe her wound in salt water and pick off the sodding scabs..
I usd to have a nice life, with nails, and shopping and a career and stuff!
Now I shout like a fishwife and then feel guilty.
Hopefully it's just the first 2 decades that are like this with kids? and cats.
That's better. Sorry.

PRs real side comes out with a vengeance...

Judd · 02/07/2007 22:15

Sorry PR, I don't even think we've "met" properly and I'm chortling heartlessly at you once having "a nice life.....with nails"

bozza · 02/07/2007 22:16

Well I haven't pepperrabbit. But I did have another stressful shopping trip with DD this time to Ikea and with my MIL, SIL and nephew. Where she just cried and messed about and everything else she could think of all the way round.

Judd · 04/07/2007 23:40

Bozza - get cheap £5.87 CD player from Tesco and stick CBeebies CD in it (and batteries). Buys me an hour every Friday morning to do weekly shop.
Or put in IKEA creche (with ball from ball pond wedged firmly in her mouth - like pig on spit!)**am only joking

Egypt · 05/07/2007 13:23

lol judd

OP posts:
brandnewhelsy · 05/07/2007 14:46

Know exactly what you mean, Pepperrabbit BUT I just spent two days alone in York with credit cards and found myself going into children's clothes shops and buying stuff for THEM while I start to look more and more like a shapeless old bag lady, buying stuff because it's "comfy", and I even went in a cafe because it was child-friendly! The little minxes get under your skin, that's the problem.

bozza · 05/07/2007 14:51

Oh judd she is fine for supermarket shopping, happily sat in a trolley. In fact on Satuday I was putting her to bed and asked where she would like to go tomorrow and she said Asda. It is walking around shops that we have an issue with. And she would be in hysterics if I left her in the Ikea creche. Funny how different they all are. She is so grown up and worldly wise in some ways compared to DS at that age, but in other ways she is very timid.

Ponka · 06/07/2007 14:03

Hello everyone,

Just a flying visit on my lunch break. It's great to see so many people about. Is that because I said I was taking a bit of a break?

What happened with your DS2 PR? That sounds awful.

I am more physically zombified at the moment than I was when my two were newborns. Am making a cake for a photo shoot for a national magazine (Yikes). The photo shoot is next Wednesday so I've not got very long left. All I've got is evenings to do the thing in. I've got to get my hands looking good for the shoot so I'm wishing I still had nails, too! On top of that, DS1 has a cold and (as I've probably mentioned 1000 times before) when he gets ill, everyone has to suffer. He's tantruming about anything and everything all day long (and through the night the last few nights). He's hitting and throwing. It's the most bizarre thing ever. It's so Jekyll and Hyde. Most of the time, he's such a good boy. We are at the end of our tethers with this bout. My MIL has had him this morning and called to say that she didn't realise it was this bad so she has offered to take him back to her house overnight tonight if we want! I might take her up on that.

Egypt · 07/07/2007 07:02

oh dear ponka, take her up on it for sure. is it just because he has a cold?

OP posts:
bozza · 07/07/2007 09:37

I hope you did take her up on it ponka. And really impressed re the cake. Could you get a manicure as a treat before the shoot? Sounds like you deserve one.

DD had her dancing exam yesterday. My friend put her hair up in a bun. Her hair is still very fine and quite short (despite growing it since birth) so it was a bit of a challenge for her. But she did look sweet. I really ought to put a picture of her on my non-existant profile, didn't I? But when it came to time to go into the exam she wouldn't leave me so the dancing teacher had to carry her in. But then she was fine. It was also DS's school fair last night, so had a little bit too much to drink. Also am going to have to wash the face paints off the children's bedding this morning.

Judd · 07/07/2007 22:33

Anybody else completely overreact because it wasn't raining today? I could hear DS through the monitor at about 7am saying "I think we will go camping. The sun is shining. Yes it is, it is not raining today. I have had a dream and now we will go camping". Sadly, I had to tell him that we haven't actually purchased a tent yet ...but must do very very soon.
Then, he wanted the paddling pool out at once but I put my foot down there. I let them have water pistols though.....
Ponka - yes have a manicure! So much nicer when you're pointing at marzipan in a magazine.
I have drunk, so I am sorry if I attempt funniness but don't achieve it.
Helsy - I am fed up of not wearing nice stuff. I have it in my wardrobe for "special occasions"...and then they noever come, or very infrequently. So on Wednesday I was the only person at toddler group not in jeans (among the mums obv) I was wearing strappy wedges, denim skirt, floaty top and cardi.
I am trying to train DS to walk more. I need him in the pram for the school/preschool run becuase it is a good half an hour in all...but when it is taking DD to school, he could walk it. I suggested a star chart to him, and he said "yes, when I have got lots of stars, I can have a sausage roll". I think I have a little way to go....
He still pronounces "s" through his nose and there are various other letters that he pronounces wrongly, but I don't think pre school will pick up on it. I think it will either click, or it will be picked up at school. Do you think it would do any good to take him to the HV and see if they can refer?

bozza · 08/07/2007 22:17

Judd will he not be having a 3 and a half year check? You could maybe mention it then? your outfit sounds very nice. TBH I have not been wearing jeans much recently because they end up soggy up the backs all the time. It is OK in winter when I wear heeled boots but no good with flipflops, ballet shoes, trainers etc. DD is doing fine without the pushchair really but I think I am quite strict about it. She was in it once in March but otherwise not for months. We were rather pleased that it was dry yesterday because we were at a garden party. Obviously not as pleased as the hosts - there were 40 children there and then as many adults as well.

Ponka · 09/07/2007 01:13

Egypt, yes it's just a cold. Can you imagine how bad his "man flu" will be when he gets older?

Yes me, I completely overreacted, Judd! We were outside for a lot of the day. I had both DSs in their swimming costumes outside with the paddling pool filled this afternoon. DS1 did go to my MILs and he stayed 2 nights! Aparently he was lovely . We picked him up this morning and he's been a lot better for us today. I'm excited because I've managed to completely finish the cake. That leaves two nights left to do the written article. Just enough. I don't know when I can have a manicure though. I'd love one. That's a great idea. I've never actually had one before . My friend today says they sometimes clip your cuticles. Ouch! I think it will certainly help me with my "marzipan pointing" though, Judd (lol).

DS1 is still completely reliant on going in the pushchair and I've made no effort to counter this because I want to get my money's worth out of the double pushchair. If current trends are anything to go by, DS2 will be keener to abandon pushchair use before DS1.

I would love to see an uploaded picture of your DD, Bozza. If you get the time.

bozza · 09/07/2007 12:46

I will work on the photo ponka. The dancing ones are still on the camera. DD and I went shoe shopping this morning. I took her to Kids at Clinks at Meadowhall (you should see Meadowhall - tons of shops boarded up) and got her a pair of sandals in the sale, then I found myself a pair of sandals in the John Rocha girls section of Debenhams (I am size 5 feet) reduced to £5.40. Bargain! DD just wanted to spend ages watching the workmen rebuild the escalator. She is now asleep in my bed because she hasn't any sheets on hers.

Well done on finishing the cake btw. Are you going to post us a picture or a link or something?

pepperrabbit · 09/07/2007 21:09

Definitely think we need a photo of the cake Ponka - I haven't actually made a cake since I left school - is it like riding a bicycle where you never forget? I'm in awe of anyone who can make cakes well enough to go in magazines!
We were away this weekend seeing my friend who lost her husband earlier in the year in a car crash, all her kids have had birthdays since he died and she's just been going through a terrible series of firsts without him. I was so glad the sun was shining as we took all the kids to the park and they just ran round like loonies. DH spent most of the time flinging her DS around (age 6) as he seems to miss the rough and tumble most.
DS1 shared a room with her DS and I swear they did not sleep! Bunk beds were Very Exciting, and there was a lot of hero worship going on! DS1 was consequently foul yesterday and had to have a daytime sleep.
DS2 is finally fully recovered from his pneumonia and was giving as good as he got which was hilarious as he can't walk yet.
Bozza, did DD pass her ballet exam or do you have to wait to find out?

brandnewhelsy · 17/07/2007 23:03

Where's everybody gone?
Would love to see the cake Ponka!
Glad your ds is better now Pepperrabbit - dd2 had pneumonia when she was 11 months and we spent most of Christmas 2001 in hospital. It's scary. She recovered really quickly, no problems since - in fact if anything has been pretty robust when it comes to the usual childhood infections.
We've just put the pushchair in the utility, which means it won't be as easy to get at. Dd2 doesn't like going in it anyway, prefers walking, but school is almost a mile and a half away and that's just too far for her little legs.
Going camping in Cornwall for a week on Saturday - Oh it's going to pee down isn't it? Contemplated trying to get a cottage or something but I think we'll just go with it. Bozza you have a camper van don't you? Wish we did!

Ponka · 18/07/2007 20:33

Have managed to put a couple of cake pictures up on my pictures bit. I'll keep them there for a couple of days then take them off again.

Yikes, camping. I'm thinking that there really can't be any more bad weather left though. Especially down south. I bet you'll be fine.

We had a strange day today. Finished work at midday and then went straight to get the kids and take them to a first Birthday party at a National Trust place (still in my work clothes). It was a really good friend's son's party). I've never been there before. We went to the playground bit with about 8 other Mums and their kids. They were having a great time then 15 minutes in, it started lashing it down. There was nowhere to properly hide from it all so we just stood under our umbrellas until it passed and then we had some food and sang happy birthday standing up. The kids played a bit and we chatted. By then we were really wet and muddy. The funny thing is that it sounds bad but I had a fab time and so did the kids. I just hope my mate wasn't too worried about it all and that she enjoyed her DS's birthday.

Egypt · 19/07/2007 02:24

woweee ponka - i am well and truly impressed! they are fantastic. ......gotta go - dd2 screaming...
