Fantastic ponka. You are very talented. I love the swirly retro cake, although they are all very good obviously. I am hiding from the children atm. I don't know what to do with them, DH has gone to golf and I was out until 2am this morning and then slept at a friends so although not really hungover, I am still very tired. And the weather is rubbish. DS doesn't want to go anywhere and DD wants to go to the pub. Nothing to do with her thinking she was missing out last night? Might take them to a cafe. Quite fancy a plateful of stodge.

We got DS's work back from school. There was a piece where he had to write what he did in the Easter holiday. So he wrote all about the Cars playstation game and how he went on it 12 times. The two days at soccer school, the meal out at a pub for a friend's 1yos birthday party, the trip to the Royal Armouries, the picnic, and whatever else we did didn't get a mention. He did play on it quite a lot but that was because he had an operation in the hols.

And helsy where did you get the idea that we had a camper van? Was a bit surprised by that bit.

pepperrabbit · 21/07/2007 14:43

Why can't I see the cakes??
I'm quite glad we've not booked a UK holiday given the really pants weather. Actually, we've no holiday booked at all as all our money will go to the builders so that's just sour grapes.
Egypt, DH is heading for your neck of the woods - a week working in their Singapore office early August, am quite jealous of him as my equally multinational company thinks a placement in Reading should get me excited!

Ponka · 21/07/2007 20:18

Thanks everyone. I'm not even half way there to starting my own business and doing it properly but one day..... [sigh]

PR, you have to scroll to the bottom of the profile and click the pictures link. Did you do that?

Did you go to a cafe, Bozza? We've not done much today at all.

bozza · 21/07/2007 20:21

We went to macdonalds. How noisy is that place? Have not been for ages. Then my sister rang up and offered to have the chidren over night and tomorrow so we can go to the Tatton Park Flower Show (and wave at judd as we are passing) in peace. So I went to meet her with the children in the Ikea car park and tonight there is just Dh on his laptop and me on the PC. Such romantics. Would go to see Harry Potter but know I would fall asleep so am wasting a childfree evening.

Ponka · 21/07/2007 20:26

That sounds like it will be a lovely day tomorrow. You should both go to the pub together and have a drink tonight though (says Ponka, who on her last child free evening stayed at home and watched big brother )

Judd · 21/07/2007 20:30

Ponka - the cakes look beautiful! Can you say which magazine it's for?
I was mostly children entertaining today whilst DH crawled under the floorboards rerouting wiring. I ended up putting their hoods up and taking them bike riding - was drizzling rather than spitting. Then I decided DD should try without stabilisers, so I took them off and spent ages racing up and down, bent double, holding onto the saddle. DS got bored and came inside and then DD wanted to practise "jumping in" so I had to tie the skipping rope round the drainpipe and turn the rope for her. SHe was very cute!
We've also had a threadworm outbreak at school! I had to trawl mumsnet and then go rummaging beyond pyjamas by torchlight. DD had got it (YUK - didn't know whether to burst out crying, or wake her up and cuddle her) so I then spent 2 days washing, damp dusting, administering banana medicine. I was like a whirling dervish - lady Macbeth came round to take notes on my strict handwawshing regime!
Oh and DH set fire to the Aqua Draw by putting it on top of the cooker to dry out...without checking that he'd switched the hob off after cooking scrambled eggs. Children terrified/awestruck in equal proportions.

bozza · 21/07/2007 20:32

Ah poor DD judd.

Judd · 21/07/2007 20:36

Oh, enjoy the Flower Show and child-free time. DH is going to York Races with work on Thursday and staying overnight apres his champers reception, dinner, racing and drinking. I have got a babysitter so I can go down the road to a Body Shop party. Jealous, moi?
Anyway, we have booked Malmaison for one night when the children are at PILs.
DD got her school report last week, it says she has a strong sense of justice. By which, I presume they mean her frequent outbursts along the lines of :" Abigail said that there was an ant on the table, but it was a piece of fluff, so I told her she was telling A BIG LIE..........and then she cried". Hmmmmmm.

Judd · 21/07/2007 20:37

I bought her a My Little Pony Surf Shack in Woolies as a guilt present for not noticing sooner.

Ponka · 21/07/2007 20:40

Oooh. Lots of people actually on at the same time! DH has got a gig tonight so I have the computer all to myself.

Thanks Judd. It's just called Cake craft and decoration. It's for die hard cake decorating enthusiasts (so I'm bricking it because I'm far from an expert and most of the people who do cakes for it are). I think my profile will point out I'm a student.

That sounds scarey about the aquadraw . Did you need the fire brigade? I've heard threadworm is really common. Lol at your mad cleaning spree.

bozza · 21/07/2007 20:54

you are very modest ponka. Your cakes are great.

Egypt · 02/08/2007 14:37

blimey, we have all gone quiet havent we?

i'll try and get the ball rolling again

had a couple of eventful weeks including dd2 starting to roll at 16 weeks (dd1 didnt until 10 months!!!) and dd1 ending up in hospital after shoving a mickey mouse ear up her nose. hmmm

she came into my room in the morning and announced she had stuck a mickey mouse ear up her nose at school yesterday whilst on the park sitting on the 'red thing'. so i believed her of course. yes my reaction was prob the same as yours. it turned out she meant a small rubber ear she pulled from the mickey mouse on her crocs shoes.......anyway....
i couldnt see it. the doc couldnt see it but said her nose was swollen and told me she had an allergy - gave her some antihistamines and nasal spray. 3 days later it came out. . turned out to be mini mouse's ear with red bow attached. about 1 cm long by 1.5 wide and flat. poor thing.

you've got to laugh!

part of me wanted to go back to the docs and say 'see', she could have inhaled this and died. but the other part doesnt want to waste my money - private healthcare.

apart from that we're ok.....off to eat my pizza x

egypt. DS rolled once at that age and then not again for several months.

Today is my last day at work until 21st Aug. We are going to France on Monday. DD is very excited because she has never been on a plane. I bought her a backpack to carry on the plane and she thought it was her entire luggage for a fortnight. So I had to demonstrate (using DS's playmobil airport and plane) how it all worked. Then she saw DH's case on Tuesday (he was working away) and assumed we were off, "let's go pack". Just like as if she was going on a sleepover.

But I have just come down with a cold, DH is playing golf tonight and Saturday afternoon, I have to look after my friend's DC tomorrow, I have PIL coming for tea on Saturday (because it is DH's birthday while we are away), and SIL and DNeph coming on Sunday and we need to leave the house by 6 am on Monday. So I am slightly concerned.

pepperrabbit · 04/08/2007 20:03

Bozza, sounds like a medicinal pre holiday drink is in order! hope it's gone OK, you're very lucky to be off on holiday - and to have got to enjoy the best weather all summer here as well - good timing.
DS2 fell off our slide today (all of 2 ft) and then didn't seem able to crawl because his arm hurt, and of course this was approx 15 minutes before we had to drop off DH at the station cos he's gone to Singapore for the week. I pictured a mad dash to A&E straight from the station but spotted him making a wild grab for one of DS1's cars with his "injured" arm. How do they get so cunning at only 16 months??? He's already on antibiotics following a cold, where they think the pneumonia damaged his lungs so it's penicilin at the slightest chesty cough.
Am bored of looking after them on my own already, and DH only left at 4pm....
Shall be spending a lot of the week on mumsnet methinks!

Judd · 04/08/2007 22:58

Oooh bon vacance Bozza! We had our first flight at Whit holidays to France. All went very well indeed. DD has packed three times (I keep unpacking it!) for their trip to Ils next Wednesday. They really are very excited about it!
Nothing much going on here. DH is preparing kitchen for him to put in a new one the last week of August. He slowly keeps taking bits away to see how much he can do before I finally break down and weep! We now have NO electricity in there (but lovely shiny new sockets) and 1 wall cupboard instead of 3.
Holidays going very nicely indeed! We bought a tent today - sleeps 8 - for the Greenbelt Festival at the end of the month.

bozza · 05/08/2007 20:38

Hope you are doing OK without DH pr. And also judd enjoy your break without children.

Needed to go on the computer to transfer some money before we go so just popped on to say bye. Back on 20 Aug, back at work 21 Aug, DH away 21 Aug, so will probably be on here ignoring the piles of washing/ironing. How come we have the loveliest day for ages when I have just packed all my shorts? Better go we have to be up and off early in the morning and I need to work on my bikini line (TMI I know!).

pepperrabbit · 07/08/2007 21:32

Actually I'm doing Ok without DH - the boys rarely see him during the week anyway cos he gets in so late, I'd rather be doing without MIL as well - she's been "popping in" just to "see if I'm OK" which is very tedious as she knows DH would never let her get away with it and is taking advantage of my inability to be rude to her face. and she fails to realise that I have absolutely no interest or opinion in fact, on her divorce from DHs dad 23 years ago .
Though I couldn't open a new jam yesterday and could really have done with DH then!

pepperrabbit · 15/08/2007 18:39

Quiet in here!

Ponka · 16/08/2007 21:22

Just popping in to say hello. I have to admit that I've developed a new addiction to facebook and that's why I've not been around so much. Is anyone else on that?

So we are coming up to the term after their third birthday's fast. Has everyone sorted out what they are doing? I think I'm keeping DS1 at the nursery he is at because there isn't one attached to the school he will be going to. I don't think I'll use the full time they give you. Even though he doesn't cry anymore, there's rarely a nursery day goes by without him telling me that he doesn't want to go I think it's good for him though. He always comes back with a smile on his face. I think we'll be going for two or three mornings a week and then slowly increasing it as he gets nearer school age.

Hope you are having a nice holiday, Bozza.

bozza · 21/08/2007 09:37

I had a lovely holiday ponka, but am currently frozen. I couldn't believe how cold it was when we got back! Bit of a shock to the system, mind you, home at 6.45pm, in the office at 8 am, and DH away tonight, so I have to trail DD to DS's swimming lesson. Had to wake them both up this morning too!

ATM my plans are for DD to continue attending her current nursery for the 3 days that I work, but for me to pay much less. There is a nursery attached to the school, but May babies wouldn't get in until after Christmas. I have her name down for the school nursery as a back up but I am not sure that I will send her - the five mornings thing doesn't really work for me. But then my job is still in jeopardy so, who knows?

Are you all sorted with schools? Obviously with having an older sibling, DD's choice of school and chance of getting in are fairly set.

brandnewhelsy · 30/08/2007 18:25

Happy birthday to meee, Happy birthday to meee, happy birthday dear meeeeee-eeeee, happy birthday to me.
I'm 43 today. Took the girls on the train to Liverpool to see my sister today and Dh is taking me out for a surprise meal tonight. Im not very good at surprises.
Have not read this thread for a while, will come back to it later. Now I have been TOLD to go and have a long bath before we go out -guess I must smell .
Just told dd2 we're going out for a meal tonight and she said "oh, that's nice, I didn't know that! Can I come?"

pepperrabbit · 31/08/2007 18:29

Happy birthday for yesterday helsy! Glad you're holiday was good Bozza, DH is planning our holiday at the mo - we've decided not to do our extension so we've "saved" loads of money hence the holiday! This is his logic not mine! The amount we were stretching ourselves to pay for the building work was keeping me awake at night and it's just not worth the worry and never having a takeaway and no new clothes ever etc.
I'm so relieved!
The school thing is looming here! DS1 starts his new pre-school on monday afternoon - we had to go and buy a Thomas lunchbox as they take lunch to practice eating independently. Even though he's been at nursery forever and will stay there for the 2 days I'm at work, I am surprisingly nervous for him!
The point is it's the "right" pre-school for the local school I want him to go to next year. I never, ever thought I'd try so hard to get him to the right infant school!
Oh dear, overuse of !! time to go....
Hope everyone's well.
where's egypt these days?
PR

bozza · 01/09/2007 19:50

Oh happy birthday helsy. Hope you enjoyed it.

pr - both mine have lunchboxes (power rangers and disney princess) but they either have nursery or school dinners. The lunch boxes get used on picnics or school trips or whatever. DD got hers for her birthday.

My SIL is due in Jan and she has asked what we all want for Christmas. Very difficult to come up with more than one or two ideas at this point in time although I can appreciate her position. Not that I remember much consideration when I was due with DS in February.

pepperrabbit · 01/09/2007 22:21

lunchbox currently has books in it or his collection of Lighning McQueen cars - as selfishly and most unreasonably Mummy won't let him have cake in it all the time!
Who told him you only eat cake when you take lunch to school??

brandnewhelsy · 03/09/2007 20:39

Bozza, I'd ask for vouchers - make it easier for her (unless she wants to shop). Dd1 was due either on 25th or 31st December (they couldn't make up their minds), and I did all my shopping online and had it finished by October.
Birthday was lovely thanks - we went out for an Italian meal - although DH hadn't realised it closed at 9 so when we arrived at 8.30 we were the last ones in, and by 9.30 the chef and the waiter were standing over us waiting for us to leave! Still nice though.
Dd1 and dd2 have loads of lunchboxes. Dd2 goes "to work" with hers, usually full of toys and stuff we're looking for like keys, phones. Dd2 (7) has a new one every term. The latest was about three quid from Tesco. We don't get the hard ones - too difficult to carry.
If Dd1's school get their act together, dd2 may be starting preschool there in January. She's been in nursery 3/4 days a week since she was 8 months old, though. She's desperate to start school like "my sister". DH was at home with the girls today and when I phoned I heard "why are you naked? No you can't be a fairy, we've got to go to Halfords!" . Apparently, it's quite tiring looking after two children all day
