So many August bus babies have arrived already! Anyone else fancy a chat during night feeds or wondering what to make of the contents of tiny nappies? Might as well get comfortable...

Haven't heard of it Sophia but it makes sense.

So it turns out I have pneumonia :( On both lungs and I feel absolutely atrocious. I am camped out in bed with DD and praying that nursery will take DS for an extra day tomorrow. And that the antibiotics kick in pronto. If it gets any worse then in all likelihood it will become a hospital job so I really really need to get better!

Sophia1984 · 08/09/2016 11:49

Oh no biscuits - you poor thing! Might be worth taking probiotics to avoid thrush. Hope you don't end up in hospital. Take care!

Biscuitswithtea · 08/09/2016 11:55

That's a good idea. Do you think those probiotic yogurts would hack it, or does it need to be something a bit more medicinal?

CheeseandGherkins · 08/09/2016 12:11

Feel better soon biscuits, rest as much as possible as that is what will help you get better too. Lots of fluids also. The yoghurts will help your gut deal with the anti biotics too.

LotsOfDots · 08/09/2016 13:20

Alfie - do you have fleece liners for your nappies? If you have one inside the nappy she shouldn't feel wet - might be worth a try. You can just chop up a fleece blanket to make them or you can buy them from all nappy suppliers.

LotsOfDots · 08/09/2016 13:22

Biscuits - poor you. Hope you feel better rally soon. I had pneumonia a few weeks ago and it was horrible. Antibiotics worked very quickly so hope yours do too.

Shanster · 08/09/2016 16:06

biscuits - that's rotten, stay in bed!!! I'd get some probiotic capsules from the chemist if you can to make sure you get enough in your system to counteract the effects of the antibiotics. It really does work, DC2 was very sick as a baby and the doctor had us giving him probiotics daily.

sophia - that's interesting, sounds like all my babies at this stage. At 2 weeks old, Ronan hasn't just regained his birth weight, he's a whole lb heavier. I'll try keeping him on each breast for longer and seeing if that makes a difference.

cheese - thanks for the reassurance about c-section recovery, it's a long road!!! TMI, but I had stopped bleeding by the time I left hospital. I had a busy day on Monday, taking the older kids swimming then to football practice. I started bleeding really heavily for about 4 hours. Same thing happened the next day after I had ran round cleaning the house before visitors arrived, then yesterday I ended up going to bed with a really painful clogged duct - my boob was a hot red mess, I felt sick and shivery. After lots of feeding on that side and expressing, and a bit of rest I feel much better today and hopefully have avoided mastitis. I just feel really knackered all the time, hoping this will end soon so that I can actually enjoy my maternity leave!!!

I started the baby on gaviscon yesterday, and probiotic drops so hopefully he'll be feeling a bit more comfortable soon and we all might get some rest.

BellaGoth · 08/09/2016 20:20

Poor you, Biscuits, hope you're able to get some rest.

Pear how did it go today?

My HV rang today to offer me a baby massage session. She's coming to the house tomorrow morning to show me how to massage DD to hopefully help with her terrible wind. Must say I'm quite impressed with the service this time round, so much more support than I had with DS.

We've booked DD's naming ceremony for next May. So excited! Time to start planning... Grin

quitecrunchy · 09/09/2016 00:38

Hi everyone, just dropping in to say hello before I spend some time catching up with the thread. Glad to finally join you! My little lady arrived on Sunday but this is me just getting back on to MN now.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 09/09/2016 03:31

biscuits that's not good. Take care of yourself, everything else can wait for the moment.

crunchy congratulations!

bella that's really good! I've been doing a baby massage course with my DD and she really likes it! Very relaxing.

pear how is tonight going?

We are on hour three of being awake. She's slept for one hour so far tonight. I've fed her til she spews/changed her:brought her into bed/tried the cot/bounced on the ball. Nothing pleases her!

BellaGoth · 09/09/2016 08:06

Oh no Alfie, did you manage to get some sleep eventually?

DD was really unsettled all night, and today just wants to feed and cuddle. I've had a sore throat for a couple of days so suspect she's caught whatever I've got. Of course I have the HV coming this morning, and DS has a swimming lesson later. I have told DH not to be late home and bring Chocolate...

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 09/09/2016 11:27

bella I managed to get her down just after four for 2 hours. So finally got a bit of a nap. Seems she is just a terrible sleeper.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 09/09/2016 11:48

lots we do have fleece liners yup. She just seems super sensitive to being wet she hates it. Consequently we've run out of nappies today as yesterday's are not dry yet.

Biscuitswithtea · 09/09/2016 11:49

Oh Alfie you must be knackered. Look after yourself Flowers

I am feeling the benefit of total bed rest (simple things like going for a shower are still knackering) though am currently spooked by a- how much weight I have lost in the past few days alone (c3lbs) and b- that my milk production seems to have dropped a bit. So today is all about resting + drinking LOTS + calories. Have chucked a potato in the oven for lunch and will load it up with yummy things.

CheeseandGherkins · 09/09/2016 12:44

Biscuits funny you should mention that as I was reading about exactly that last night kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-calories-fluids/ so it seems that milk production isn't linked to calories or fluids, which I presumed it was. I was wanting to make sure that all the maltesers I've been eating won't make my milk rubbish! I'm still quite tired doing not very much too, I'm trying to build up what I'm doing now as I'm sick of not being able to do anything. My iron was only 7.9 after my section though and I didn't lose much blood, 300ml. I'm getting it checked in 3 weeks time at my 6 week check, hopefully it'll have gone up.

Alfie hope you get some rest today, sounds really difficult for you

CheeseandGherkins · 09/09/2016 12:47

Oh and I also had a jacket potato for lunch, with loads of butter, cheese and beans :) Dd3 finished school before lunch today so we went to feed the ducks with dd4 and the baby before collecting her. Next week she stays for lunch, and the week after, full time.

Biscuitswithtea · 09/09/2016 12:59

Actually that article has supported my thinking. I seriously doubt I have managed anything like 1500-1800 calories per day in the past few days. That's all I'm trying to maintain really. Am not very good at calorie counting but yesterday's total of banana, apple, a yoghurt, 2 slices of toast n butter and a bowl of soup won't be that much :/
My body usually shuts down a bit when ill, so I need to force it to not!

CheeseandGherkins · 09/09/2016 13:20

Just re-read that and realised I misread it...That'll teach me for reading articles at 1am. I think I'm keeping my calories up with chocolate hehe but I don't eat that much generally. I have noticed being hungry and thirsty a lot though. It doesn't sound like you're eating much and definitely not enough for you, if you're losing weight.

Biscuitswithtea · 09/09/2016 13:30

I normally eat more and my weight loss had been at a much more normal post-baby rate...until this week. Am sure a smattering of off days won't have a lasting effect if I take control of things now.

Shanster · 09/09/2016 15:34

biscuits hope the bed rest starts to pay off for you soon, all this talk of yummy baked potatoes is making me hungry!!!

Quick update for anyone suffering (along with baby suffering) from reflux - after 2 days on gaviscon/ranitidine (think they are the same thing, dr prescribed ranitidine as the generic form) I already have a much more content baby. He actually slept from 10pm until 4pm last night, and then staight through until 9am this morning. He's now lying on his may happily playing, which would have been impossible a few days ago. Might not work for all babies, but worth a try if you're baby is really miserable with reflux!!

BellaGoth · 10/09/2016 13:03

Shanster I am Envy of your 6 hour stretch.

Having a really tough day today. DD is refusing to be put down, but I can't just hold her all day as I have DS constantly demanding things. DD isn't getting enough sleep and is getting more and more worked up. Argh!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 10/09/2016 20:02

bella do you have a wrap? I find that DD goes straight to sleep in hers and then my hands are free. It's good if I need to enforce a nap when she's worked up and overtired!

BellaGoth · 10/09/2016 20:48

Alfie I picked up a babasling second hand yesterday but haven't figured it out yet! Would have been very handy today. DD is usually fine being put down. I had a sore throat and couple of days ago so I'm wondering if she's picked up a bug from me. Not holding out much hope for a good night tonight!

peardrop2 · 10/09/2016 21:22

Hi, I'm still here. I'm just having such a tough time that I never get a chance to type anymore. DD had her tongue tie treated at the private clinic on Thursday. She came home and screamed all night. The lady who did it felt I have Thrush but I asked the GP yesterday and he said it's not very likely. He wasn't helpful at all Sad I don't think I have thrush, I feel like I've been in pain because of the bad latch. Anyway, since she's had the tongue tie she's completely forgotten how to feed and it is a nightmare! She screams for about 15-30 minutes before she finally manages to latch on at every feed. Poor DS is really fed up with her screaming and lack of attention from me. On top of that I have to do all these mouth exercises to get her to move her tongue and also massage the wound..:all of that is impossible when she doesn't let me go near her mouth Shock

My mum is a Star and has offered to have DS tomorrow which will save me! Last night I slept upright...most of it is a blur. Not what I want Sad

Sorry I can't reply to all your recent posts right now. I'll come back later to contribute xx

Sophia1984 · 11/09/2016 02:05

Oh pear I'm so sorry to hear that the tongue tie op hasn't improved things. I know you've probably heard and tried this, but I found skin to skin, biological nurturing, laid back nursing and having a bath with baby really helpful in 'restarting' the breastfeeding relationship.

Re: thrush- is the pain during feeds or during and in between, and is it just in nipple or deeper in breast?

Hang on in there. It can only get easier as baby's mouth gets bigger (I keep telling myself!)
