Sorry Q, what a pita.

Yesterday I gave up on the late afternoon nap as he just wasn't playing ball. However this was a mistake as come bedtime he'd been awake 3 hours so we had a lot of overtired screaming.

He's not been too bad nap wise today (2 hour long naps so far). Got him down for a third but he woke after ten minutes! I rocked him back to sleep so I'm pretty chuffed.

dom I'm on the edge of buying one of those daft Amber bracelets, please talk me out of it!!! X

Trinpy · 04/08/2016 14:41

new ds has 4 naps a day but usually only 30 mins at a time. He wakes to feed 3-4 times a night so I would say you're doing very well with only one wake up a night!

q ah what a nightmare! Unexpected costs are such a pain when you're on mat pay.

maybe those amber teething bracelets really don't work, but I do think they can have a placebo effect on parent!

Good to know my baby isn't the only one going for frenzied chewing attacks on everyone's fingers me! (And thanks for the link - will have to check that thread out now).

Timetogrowup2016 · 04/08/2016 17:06

Ahhhh I've had two ten minute naps today and she's cried all day again... Why is it always like this?
She's not hungry, clean nappy, she's burped, she's pooed and she's not to hot.
So I've left her to cry in her for five minutes to calm down.
I can't take much more.
Even a walk just makes her fucking scream all the way

Timetogrowup2016 · 04/08/2016 17:29

Also silly question. Can I give my dd any chicken pasta tonight?
She is six months on the 16th,
It would be chicken, pasta and some veggies mashed up but not puréed.
I'd been doing purées but she seems to like finger foods more and it's a less stressful experience rather than trying to spoon feed her just to let her take what she wants.
But I was worried about the pasts before six months ?

Swearwolf · 04/08/2016 18:32

I would time, I would just give her some whole pieces and see how it goes, and not worry too much about how much actually goes in.

And sorry to hear about your tough day. Some babies are just like that, and it's really hard. They seem to get happier when they can move, or when they start being able to express themselves a bit and tell you what they want.

Dottydoodoo · 04/08/2016 23:55

Sorry you had a hard day time. DS is back to having half hour naps and in that half hour I rush about trying to get the house sorted, hence why I am up so late in an attempt to get some me time! Then I will wonder why I am knackered tomorrow sigh. Is your DD still in the carrycot part of the pram? We swapped ours over this week and it's like taking a different baby out.
I hope the chicken pasta was a success.

Has anyone heard of or tried the wake to sleep technique? I was told about it at the weekend. Basically you gently rouse the baby before their sleep cycle ends, so about 30 mins after they have fallen asleep, and they should go back into another sleep cycle and have a longer nap. I'm a bit sceptical to be honest. The person who was telling me said it worked wonders for her. I've been told by many never to wake a sleeping baby and I'm scared to wake DS from his nap because that could have been the one where he was going to sleep for 2 hours, and then I will ruin it!

DS rolled from back to front today, twice! He looked so pleased with himself too!

QforCucumber · 05/08/2016 07:17

Never heard of it dotty but I do know when ds has fallen asleep in his car seat for example and we have had to carry him into the house it has woken him up and he stays awake, whereas if he hadn't been disturbed he would have slept for ages so I personally don't fancy trying it haha.
Ds woke every single hour last night, sometimes dummy and white noise would soothe him somethings it had to be boob sometimes I had to pick him up and walk around. Pained screams every it me but even after calpol, nelsons powder and dentinox he was still awake again an hour later. Dp ended up sleeping on the sofa and we had one of those 'I'm more tired than you' arguments before he left for work this morning Sad

Trinpy · 05/08/2016 09:38

I've heard of wake to sleep dotty. I don't know anyone who's tried it irl but I've read posts on mn from people who've tried it and it's worked for them. I haven't because I would be too scared to end up with a grumpy overtired baby who won't go back to sleep. Ds only naps for 30 mins at a time but it works well for him so I just cram as much into those 30 mins as possible! I expect once he goes down to 3 naps he will start sleeping for longer.

Sorry to hear you had a crap night Q. I know the 'who's the most tired' arguments well. The word tired is now banned in our house (apart from when talking about dcs) which has helped enormously.

Me624 · 05/08/2016 09:45

Sorry you had such an awful night Q. Can you see any teeth below the gums? If so the end might be in sight (for now!) I can see three of ds's top teeth but he makes it very hard for me to look at his bottom gums.

Dotty I'm considering trying wake to sleep with DS as well. He rarely naps for longer than 45 mins, often only 30 mins. But im not quite sure how to do it, presumably you want to rouse very slightly but not let them completely wake up? I'm sure I'll get it wrong and end up just waking him up completely!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 06/08/2016 14:43

Hey all just catching up as back from holiday! Sympathy to those with teething babies. We've just got the beginnings of teething and had one bad night on holiday but don't think its started properly yet.

Managed to survive the plane journeys to Italy and back, had a lovely time but very glad to be home now with home comforts and less than 30 degree heat!

FS84 · 06/08/2016 14:52

Wonder if we were on the same flight marmite! DS slept during take off then cried the majority of each flight. So glad to be home!

We put him in his highchair this morning and he absolutely loves it. His face was a picture!

TheMshipIsBack · 06/08/2016 16:45

Afternoon of extreme parenting here. DS went to a morning show in town with his Gran and I met them after with picnic lunch at a nearby park. Sounds lovely, eh? Well read on!

DS was coughing this morning, didn't think much of it as he often has a little cough or cold from nursery. Gran said he was tired during the show, and he was pretty low energy at lunch, didn't eat much. Perked up, played a bit, stopped at DH's work to say hi, then bus home. Gran at this point had left for her next show.

DS very clingy on the bus, crying, wanting cuddles, T of course tired and hot in the sling, needing a nap but screaming a bit now and then. She finally goes down, and DS promptly vomits. I caught most of it in T's muslin and we got off the bus fast. Lovely bystander helped me with our bags and gave me a plastic carrier bag to hold the dirty muslin, DS's hoodie, and the spare muslin I used to clean him up. He's crying and distressed, T's woken up and howling. It was awful.

We were too far from home to walk, and I couldn't take a taxi with no car seats, so with great trepidation we got on the next bus. Poor DS shivering next to me, curled up on his seat, T slowly crying her way back to sleep. Thank god we got home without further incident. Got us all stripped, laundry going, everyone into pj's except DS who refused. He's still crying, T's woken again as I had to put the sling in the wash (thank goodness for mei tai machine washable!). So I end up on the couch with T nursing rugby ball hold on one side and DS in his pants shivering and burning up with fever cuddled in a ball on my lap. I got him settled with a blanket and a barf bowl, and at last calm enough to check his temperature. 39! No wonder...

We're a couple of hours after that now, Calpol's brought it down to 38.5 and DS has kept down water and cream crackers, had a little sleep and unlimited cbeebies. He's just wrecked. I'm surprisingly ok, T's been asleep on my lap for half an hour or so and is not showing any symptoms yet. DH has to be at work tomorrow and every day next week till Saturday inclusive, a run of 13 days straight, so I'm really hoping this is a 24 hour bug and that T doesn't get it!

TheMshipIsBack · 06/08/2016 17:36

... and the fever's broken, just like that. Amazing how resilient kids are. Still going to give ibuprofen at bedtime to help with a more comfortable night!

Trinpy · 06/08/2016 22:30

Bloody hell Mship, what a horrible day! Glad the fever has gone and I hope that T (and the rest of the family) doesn't get it. Poor ds, I hope he feels better tomorrow.

Absolutely nothing of interest is going on in my world. Ds2 has recently discovered his own feet which is adorable to watch but that's about as fascinating as it gets! .

Dottydoodoo · 06/08/2016 23:20

Blimey Mship what a day! Poor you and poor DS. Fingers crossed that he is feeling a bit better and that nobody else catches it.

Trinpy my DS has discovered his feet this week too. It's so cute, makes nappy changes a bit different though!

I've just been in to check on DS before going to bed, he was lying there sound asleep with this huge grin on his face! He must be happy considering he was screaming the house down before bed but he did look a little creepy!

1frenchfoodie · 06/08/2016 23:52

Sad we are in hour 3 of DD crying herself into a state, calming down then the same over and over again. Dentinox and calpol dispensed to no avail. May be a long night. Just knew we'd pay for the 2.5h nap at noon..

1frenchfoodie · 06/08/2016 23:53

But nothing compared to your day Mship, you poor things. Hope the fever is gone for good.

MrsElls · 07/08/2016 04:05

mship hope all is ok with ds now and the rest of you manage to avoid it.
Just catching up while I do a night feed, 2nd night in a row that C has woken at 3.45am. After sleeping through for ages I'm struggling to stay awake. Had a wonder weeks alarm the other day so I think its that rather than teething, she's not crying but is just awake and that keeps me awake until I give in and feed her to sleep.

TheMshipIsBack · 07/08/2016 05:10

Thank you all, everything seems ok this morning. I'm just feeding T, DS is still asleep after a normal bedtime. I've heard him cough a few times in the night but nothing more than two or three little hacks then he's back to sleep. We'll all be up for the day at 6:30 as DH has to work. The kids and I are going to take it very easy - Disney and hanging out in the big bed so everyone can nap as needed.

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/08/2016 06:49

Blimey Mship, what a day! Well done you for holding it together and getting back on a bus. Must have been a very nervy ride! Hope DS is better this morning. Lots of cuddles today.

French hope you managed to get some sleep. Poor little thing.

So we are officially weaning. J has so far had puréed carrots (hit), peas (open mouth but funniest face while eating) and broccoli (took some convincing!) along with toast that he pinched off our plate and loved squishing in his hand and sucked through a clenched fist. Cauliflower on the menu today.

Me624 · 07/08/2016 09:36

Get well soon MShip's DS! Poor little thing, well done you for dealing with all of that on a bus!

Rhu that's so exciting! Is J taking to it well? I've bought all my kit and I made some carrot purée and froze it the other day when I had some leftover carrots. I'm holding off another week or two before we start with DS, but planning to try and do some batch cooking this week so I can get plenty of different veggies cooked and ready for him.

It was lovely weather here yesterday in the SE. We went for a long walk with DS in the sling, had lunch at a pub on the river, and then spent the afternoon in the paddling pool which DS absolutely loved. He was so sweet, splashing away and giggling, and he looked so funny wearing nothing but his sun hat Grin took loads of pics to bring out on his 18th birthday!

DomesticAnarchist · 07/08/2016 10:26

Ooh, blimey TheM, you deserve a medal for handling that! Hope you're all still feeling well.

No excitement here. Though this talk of weaning is quite exciting! Are your babies sitting up unaided? DS2 doesn't seem anywhere near it still (but he's only 18 weeks). I went to get the high chair/booster seat out the other day and discovered it's not where I thought it was. Hmm No idea where it could be then!

OP posts:
TheMshipIsBack · 07/08/2016 14:01

Dom T sits well enough for the booster, still listing a bit at times, and probably will be sitting independently in another couple of weeks. She's 5 months today, 22 weeks tomorrow.

We are all fine now. DH and I both think DS might have had heat stroke on top of a mild virus. The bus was ridiculously hot and he just wouldn't take off his thick hoodie. I couldn't wrestle it off him as we were so crammed in. Next time I'll make him take it off before getting on! He can't go to nursery tomorrow due to the 48 hour rule. I don't know how parents of 2+ cope without childcare, three days in a row on my own is exhausting.

Was it maybe with the disappearing tooth? Just thought I'd say us too! Tiny sharp point two weeks ago, and now nothing, just a little white under the gum. Babies are weird. Can't complain though, as T has a terrible bite and pull habit when she's distracted on the boob. Haven't figured out how to break that one and rather dreading teeth.

I'm having my favourite type of afternoon rest. T snoozing beside me in bed, DS cuddled up on my other side with a book.

Me624 · 07/08/2016 17:24

Dom DS is 22 weeks and he can't sit properly unaided yet but can balance for a bit if he leans forward and supports himself with his arms. He's fine in the high chair with a cushion behind him.

Timetogrowup2016 · 07/08/2016 18:48

Where has my little baby gone ?
Put the big girls seat on this evening :'( ... they grow do fast.
Mship - glad your ds is Ok now.
My oh was ill last week with a vomiting bug. Thankfully me and c are fine
