Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fairysnuff · 15/01/2007 20:13

I had just bid for, and won, a Quinny Buzz!

Hope I made the right choice!
God they are expensive!!
But I really dislike not being able to see DD when we are out and about!

It was the oceanic colour, hope DD does not get confused!!!

Just Had to share!!

Myrtle1 · 15/01/2007 20:37

Clairemow, thanks for the advice. I am feeling better today and continuing with massage etc. It feels a bit looser and more comfortable but still quite lumpy. I've been feeding on that side a lot and this evening when I was feeding DS, my other side started leaking but then this huge arc of milk came spurting out and didn't stop for a few seconds. It was very weird
I'm off to take some ibuprofen now.

bristols · 15/01/2007 20:53

Clairemow - glad to hear the routine is working for you too. Is your LO sleeping through the night? DS went from 9.30pm (couldn't get him to hold out til 10.30) until 5.30 this morning. Lovely! We went out for most of the day today and found myself getting in a tizz about his naps etc. He seems to be OK though although I don't know what the night will be like... I suppose we'll get used to it in the end and hopefully be able to adapt it a little. Unless that defeats the whole object!

kseaj · 15/01/2007 21:08

hi everyone

welcome anna88 and fairysnuff

Mabel ds sitting up already thats great, dont think that will happen in are house for a while yet ds is far to chilled, why should he when mummy can do all the work for him

cruise and munki glad to here that your lo's are sleeping better.

To all of you still bf well done to you all for some reason i could never get the hang of it and with 2 more young ones dont think i would of had the time either.
My mother loved it and says that she can still remember what it felt like.
I say that if you want to keep on bf then go for it, it's all about what makes you and your lo's happy.

Hv has been today and said that they are now suggesting leaving weaning untill 6 months but she is happy for me to decide when the times right she did not say much about it all.

Ds has really taken to playing and looking at my face (poor thing) he loves to touch my mouth and waits for me to go "boo" at this point he throws himself back and laughs.

fairysnuff · 15/01/2007 21:28

Isn't that fab the firsttime thathappens with your milk Myrtle?
I felt so proud! Look what my boobs can do! I really am making milk! Sometimes it all seems so unreal that that is proof at least and it fairly squirts!

I am glad that you are feeling more comfortable. I ended up with mastitis in the first few weeks and it was not fun. But then neither are blocked ducts. I was given anti- biotics and it cleared up fine, better within 24 hours gone after a few days.

I am sitting here listening to DD cry whilst DH deals with her. Poor thing, this has been going on for a few nights, we just can't seem to get the evening wind shifted. She is fine all day and then this screaming starts at night. not much fun for her or us.
Best go see how he is getting on.

fairysnuff · 15/01/2007 21:31

oh? It she seems to have stopped for the mo!
Just quickly say DD has started to play too, her game is to come of the boob, grin up at me and then then go for another suke, then grin again, and so on!
I shouldn't encourage it but it is so funy!!

Best go help she has started to cry again!

JingleBelle · 15/01/2007 22:03

Just a quick one, as I think a late night feed is imminent - Fairysnuff, I found out quite by accident a little trick, which seems to help in winding DS, it might be of no help to you, but I'll mention it in case it is - when finished feeding, I put him up on my shoulder (often he is pretty much asleep by now if it is his evening feed) and rub back to help loosen it (with reflux babies advice is not to pat - results in vomit!). Then, I lie him down away from me (still holding him), and stand up and when I've stood up, I bring him back up to my shoulder - this often then results in a good burp. Found this out by accident when I was putting him down to sleep having thought I had winded him, only for him to wake a little later crying and when I picked him up, he would give a great big burp (and usually vomit!). After finally cottoning on, I tried this from sitting at end of feed and it often works (not always, mind you).
I probably sound like some sort of cruel mother, flinging my baby round to make him burp , but he's always much happier after a good burp (I'm sure there's going to come a stage when I don't praise him for burping loudly ).
Night all!

MunkiBaby · 15/01/2007 22:48

evening all... (((morning to those of you catching up tuesday morning...))

i know its been a few days, but i have to say welcome to anna and fairy...and anyone else i've missed.
havent been posting much, but i always read whats going on with you all!

myrtle, hope the boobie pain passes soon. i cant imagine it to be at all comfortable for you!

on the topic of public bf'ing...i had no idea is wasnt allowed in all places in the england. i suppose its a good thing that i've only needed to do so, just once...at a tesco in chester...luckily there was a baby room...unluckily, it reeked of poopy nappies! ha!

the new bedtime routine has been working a charm! a pal of mine in california dropped a little advice to me ((new mum here, so clueless to most things)) she said ds will catch on and go down easier if i had him on a napping routine for the daytime as well. but i cant seem to get my head around it, him being bf and all. some days'weeks he eats more than others, how can i fit a routine into that?? i dont want to resort "lord voldermorts" schedule in the book...any other suggestions/advice? shold i just keep the day feeding and napping as it is, since he's going down ok for bedtime?

Fairy ~ my ds plays the same exact little game whe on the boob. only when he's on the left one, though. its very peculiar. sucks, smiles, sucks, smiles. hehehe. it is cute, even though you are right,,,we probbaly shouldnt encourage it.

MunkiBaby · 15/01/2007 22:52

oh, just a quick addition and then im off to bed..

ds is 16 weeks today. took him to get the big 3 jabs...awww its awful to see them get sooo upset! ((gave him calpol while in waiting room of clinic though heheh)) anyways, had him weighed as well while there. was expecting him to be 15 pounds... but was shocked to hear that he's 13.1!

growing, happy little boy though.

ezridax · 15/01/2007 23:49

Munki & Fairy -nice to know that it isn't just my LO that does the whole eating and smiling. He also likes to try and hold a conversation . I tell him he shouldn't talk with his mouth full .

I'm feeling rather envious of you all my LO has settled into a routine of his own and seems to feed an awful lot at night still.
I'm just winging it to be honest. I wish i had the patience to try and get MY routine going, but i'm so tired to be honest i just go with the flow.
I'd probably benefit from implementing a routine i just don't think it's in my nature.
LO is 13lbs 8oz at 18wks

anna88 · 16/01/2007 09:25

Morning All!

Cruisemum1 and Mabel1973:
Thanks for the great advice re. bottles (Tommee Tippee/Playtex).
I'm going to continue bf my lo for a few days before I again introduce bottle.. I hope that will do the trick.
Btw, how often do you all nurse your los? I've never really counted as my little one doesnt seem to get hungry unless I bring her to my chest. It seems like she only gets hungry 5-6 hours apart from each feed.. Maybe I should wait until she cries (which is hardly)... sigh.. (Yes, you probably have all gathered, I am going through a feeding crisis at the mo!)

Jinglebelle: I often find it difficult to burp my lo one too especially the late feed, whereby she is fast asleep and you know you just want that last burp to come out - usually, she does it first thing in the morning (when she sleeps right through)!

MunkiBaby - My lo is also 16 weeks this week, but still havent had her 3 mth jab as she had a cold recently. have postponed it for 2 weeks. Her last weighing was 14.3, approx the same as your lo. I think as long as they are happy, active and getting stronger, and feeding well, the weight thing is not a big matter (obviously a steady weight gain is the best)...

Chat later all!

bristols · 16/01/2007 09:57

DS SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT

He went from 10.30 feed until 7am. I feel like a different woman! Sorry to boast but I am just soooo happy. Fingers crossed it continues. We're going to visit in-laws in Manchester this weekend which involves a 4 and a half hour car journey which LO sleeps most of. Then we're staying in a hotel which means he'll be in his travel cot and in with us. Doesn't sound promising, does it ladies?

Munki - DS does seem much happier with the daytime nap routine. It suits us both but it is quite restrictive (at the moment anyway) and if you're happy with the way things are then stick with what you do. I'm quite a routine-y person anyway (DH blames it on me being a Virgo) so I like to know where I am and plan around that. I know that sounds like a nightmare to some people, though!

Myrtle - hope you're feeling better. I had a blocked duct at the very beginning when my milk first came in. A hot flannel and lots of feeding from that side helped, but I hope you're over the worst of it now.

Re: BF in public. I always just got on with it, but I was always consious of covering myself up. More for the benefit of others than myself. If you wear the right clothes no one can see what's going on anyway. I can't believe that people in this country still have this attitude. It makes me mad!

Have a good day, all. Its dark and miserable here. Hooray for the tumble dryer. Especially as I have gone back to using washable nappies. I think that tumble drying them cancels out some of the environmental benefit though. You can't win!

MunkiBaby · 16/01/2007 11:30

just a brief mention on comfy bottles...
stumbled upon this canadian web site a while ago...had a browse and stumbled upon this .

forgive me if any of you have mentioned this bottle already. i'll blame tiredness. they do ship to the uk, as i've purchased a few things from them...

have a browse...enjoy

MunkiBaby · 16/01/2007 11:34

better yet... here it is on a uk web site...

cruisemum1 · 16/01/2007 11:34

Oh. my. God! I am sooooo excited!!! I have just put ds down in his cot for a daytime nap and he has shuffled around, grizzled a bit and GONE TO SLEEP!!!!!!! You would not believe what a triumph this is - especially since it is pissing down today!!!!!! I am over the moon, floating on cloud 9 - yippeeeeeee. Surely if he can do it in the day, he can do it an night ......... hoooorrraaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!

MunkiBaby · 16/01/2007 11:53

im soooo thrilled for you/him!!! wahey!

cruisemum1 · 16/01/2007 12:14

oh dear - he's awake still 30 mins can be worked upon now that i know he can do it. the cot is not the enemy!

MunkiBaby · 16/01/2007 13:14

cruise ~ when i put ds down yesterday afternoon ((just to see how he would take it)), i layed him down, he coo'd for a few moments, and i looked over, he was out cold. i put on the timer on my mobile...and he, too, only lasted 30 minutes. but still! it's 30 minutes that their in the cot and dropping off on their own!

cruisemum1 · 16/01/2007 13:14

munki - a small but significant victory for us both!

Fairy - My DS does that little game too of sucking then coming off for a giggle and a chat and then having a bit more. It is soo cute isn't it
Bristols, we've done a lot of long car journeys with DS as we live up north and all our family is in the south. We find that the sleep he gets in the car doesn't seem to count as he is always very tired after a long journey and he sleeps pretty well on the night. I hope the same is true for your LO.
ps. Well done on the sleeping through the night We're yet to reach that milestone but hopefully soon....

Blocked duct feels bit looser again today so will keep persevering with the massage. Thanks for all the sympathy and advice

cruisemum1 · 16/01/2007 16:12

myrtle/fairy - ditto the suck/look/smile routine - just lovely

fairysnuff · 16/01/2007 17:09

I don't think she got enough at lunch time today she was at it so much!
Just makes you smile even to think about it, doesn't it?
Thank you for giving me all those smiles today!

anna88 · 16/01/2007 17:52

Hello All!

Sounds like everyone is having a good day with their los!

myrtle1 - I'm planning my first long distance car journey at the end of this month. Am wondering whether its necessary to take breaks at service stns for journeys more than 3 hours? Those baby car seats are so restricting, hardly any space for movement!

Speak soon!

Coriander73 · 16/01/2007 20:31

bristols, that's great! In a funny sort of way I've been more tired since Jack went through (now does 11 till 7) than when he was waking 2-4 times a night! Not quite sure why but yep, definitely feel more tired....
