cori have you tried the next stage up in formula, i know with cow & gate there is milk for hungryier(sp) babies

Coriander73 · 23/01/2007 19:25

Yes there is but it's from 6 months on for the one we use (HiPP organic). Spoke to HV today who said to increase his ounces & perhaps introduce another bottle -which I did at teatime & see how we go. Today he's had two bottles plus 5 breastfeeds.....unbelieveable.......

DD has her best friend staying over for the first time tonight - the friend wasn't fazed at all moreover it was DD that was out or sorts & needed reassuring!!! They're both in bed...I hope asleep! Very cute to see how excited they got...

cruisemum1 · 23/01/2007 20:52

good grief! It has been so long since I posted that you had fallen off my list! I ahve been visitnig sleep threads for moral support . ds is still waking erratically and sucking th enight away. Every 1 - 2 hrs last night. Despite my reluctance to give up bf until at least 6 mths I have had to go to ff and plan to introduce a differnet feed every few days until he is fully ff. It breaks my heart btu as he is feeding at night he is less hungry in the day and I have no idea what he is taking as he has turned to 'snacking'. I don't want to stop bf but I have had it with not knowing . It is coming up for 20 wks and I will still bf until 26 wks just at night probably. I also introduced baby rice yesterday. He practically swallowed the spoon he ws so excited. The baby is hungry!! Hope you are all well. I cannot read all posts as I am so exhausted with Dominic's nighttime shenanegans lately. I'll catch up tomorrow. N'nite Cruise

Marls001 · 23/01/2007 21:31

Hi y'all and thanks so much for your support - I really, really appreciate it.

Update is he's off 1 of the 2 IVs he had & my sister can bf him now. Also, has been taken off oxygen & breathing well on his own! They have been at hospital since Sat. morning - will be finally allowed home, if all goes well, on Thursday! So. On to other topics!!

Cruise - so sorry & hope things get better soon. Glad you found support on other threads; they can be so helpful. Solid food should help with the nights, I would imagine?

J disinterested in everything that's not the bottle, even rice cereal! Just looks at us like, "why are you doing this?" & spits it out. Mabel - I will need to check that blog; maybe that's the way to go for us. J.'s sleeping is not too bad; have made the night feeding 8:15 now instead of 10, & he's waking at 5:00/5:30. Will wake at 2am though each night & cry for 5 min. - no idea why; don't think it's food ... maybe Prevacid hasn't kicked in yet

MunkiBaby · 23/01/2007 22:02

marls, excellent news! so happy all seems to be improving.

cruise, i think this is the first time i've posted in ages as well. ((at least, seems like ages)). mostly have been reading thru. mostly, i dont have the motivation to even post, dont want to bore everyone here with the same issues all over again..yes the sleeping bits. So on that note, what thread are you reading for the sleep issues?

also cruise, im sad for you about the bf. just remember that you are doing it to help yourself and your beautiful LO. i'm sure you will find something equally as lovely to fill the special space of 'mommy-baby-time'.

Today was sort of wonky...i mean in the sense of feeding, napping etc. i seem to have mis-timed everything. i began the bedtime routine at about 820pm (a little late)....but i couldnt really feed him as i was (excuse the expression) 'floppy-boobed'! felt empty. im quite sure that i had fed him properly about an hour before that,,i cant seem to remember. so, needless to say, he'll be ....nevermind. he's just awake now!!! probably for a feed now! what a coincidence.

more later...the boy beckons!!

MunkiBaby · 23/01/2007 22:20

ok, he wasnt crying for a feed after all. instead he did what he's been doing for days now: waking every hour or so, letting out the sweetest little whiney-cry. he's been doing it during the day as well...nose and cheeks still incredibly pinky and the drool is multiplying. i bought a teething ring to keep cool and he goes for it when iput it in his mouth! and my mother sent me a couple bottles of natural teething tablets. they are smaller than birth control pills and dissolve under the tongue immediately. when i give him a few, the fussing stops. they are FAB!

he's crying again as i type. DH is trying to console him. i dont know if this is entirely in aide of teething... i dont know what else to do for him besides the tablets and the cool ring and pacifying him with boobie and cuddles.

uh oh...hubby is back and fynn is still screaming his little head off. dh says he sounds like he's in pain. i feel like crying for him...

goodnight everyone...i have a cuddling mission to get to!

redz · 24/01/2007 00:01

Hi all,

Sorry I havent been on for a while.
Hope you are all well.
I have managed to sort out work and nursery so thats a relief of my mind

I just wanted to tell everyone about Johnsons Lavender and cammomile baby bath! My dp's aunty brought me some and I couldnt believe that 15mins after I had given dd her bath she was out like a light!!!
At first I thought it was a fluke but third night in a row and once again as soon as I put her down she is out for the count!

Cruise definately try it! (if you havent already I honestly hope it works for you.

I have never noticed it before in the supermarkets, maybe they sell it and I just wasnt looking for it. But anyone having probs with getting there lo's down for the night I would definately reccomend trying it. She just becomes so relaxed and calm.

Oh and I started putting dd to sleep in her cot about 2 weeks ago and can you believe she cried for about 10 mins the first night, AND THAT WAS IT!!![GRIN][GRIN]
She actually goes to sleep on her own, sometimes a little fussing but I think she's happy for the space better than being squashed in her moses basket

Anyway better go will try to catch up with you all tommorow.

Hugs and kisses, nightx

cruisemum1 · 24/01/2007 08:54

munki - the threads are 'sleep is for the weak' and 'anyone else got an amazing nonsleeping baby' but started by me! see you there........

clairemow · 24/01/2007 09:22

hi everyone,

Cori, It sounds like you've been sucked dry (pardon the expression!!!) by J! He sounds like a hungry little man. I am convinced too by the 16 week growth spurt. Trouble is Fraser's didn't seem to stop....

Cruise, so sorry to hear your nights haven't improved any. and about the bf for you. Give LO a cuddle from us!

I have to tell you all my DH is a star... I had the chance to go on a ski break for 4 days with my brother, and never imagined it would be possible... but DH said he thought it would be good for me... so now I have a flight home booked and am about to try and book a coach from Val Thorens to Geneva so I can catch it! The downside is I'm only going because my dad isn't very well, and they've had to cancel their places (he's now got some medication so is on the mend, but can't go still). I'm flying out on his ticket, and coming back early under Easyjet's steam. I can't quite believe it's true....

mabel1973 · 24/01/2007 10:08

wow claire - lucky you when do you go? have a fab time!
well we have snow...and have been sledging in the garden this morning, got some fantastic pics of DS1!
Had a rubbish nights sleep - entirely my own fault. I woke up at 3am because I thought i could hear one of the boys, lay awake listening, but nothing, but couldn't get back to sleep, at 4am i went in to check on DS2, he was asleep, but i must have disturbed him, he woke up at 4.20am, so ended up feeding him.... finally got back to sleep at about 5.30am.....arrrgggh! so feel exhausted this morning.

clairemow · 24/01/2007 13:48

Mabel, I hate nights like that! How frustrating... . about the snow though, we hardly ever get it here because we're so far west. So it's just freezing cold here. No jolly snowmen or anything, just blue fingers and red noses!!

I know I'm very very lucky... I go on Feb 16th, and come back on 20th. There does at least appear to be some snow there now too - I had a look on a webcam this morning, after I booked my train to Gatwick and my coach to Geneva! Got the sallopettes out last night, had to check I could still get into them... as they were bought a few years pre children.... Phew, I managed it!

OP posts:
clairemow · 24/01/2007 13:51

btw, Fairysnuff and Liquid, I had a look at your profiles (you can click on the symbol next to the envelope by our posts) - it's so interesting to see a bit more about who you are. Thanks for sharing. I did mine too!

Oh, Liquid, I had a look at that storm picture. If I saw that out of my window, I'd wet myself with fear...!!!

OP posts:
compo · 24/01/2007 14:07

ooh there must be something in the air - my dh has booked a night away without kids for Valentines Day, ds and dd will be with inlaws. Can't wait!! No snow here yet but it is forecast for later...

liquidclocks · 24/01/2007 14:12

MN is getting better all the time isn't it!

Marls - that's great news about your nephew, I hope he makes a quick recovery - I know when DS had pneumonia I was surprised how quickly he was happy again (if not 'well'!) - they're robust little things!

Claire - I'm so ! What a great opportunity - enjoy yourself. Msn't complain though as DH has happily told me to go away (lovingly!) for the weekend when my frien who I'm matron of honour for has her hen night - yay!

TMI sorry but I came on today - I've never had pmt before but yesterday I felt so depressed - teary and low and nothing could lift me out of it - kept feeling so crap that I couldn't go out, go away for the weekend, go shopping...etc etc - love the kids but it's so nice to have a day to yourself now and again - I was just reminiscing about when it wasn't a luxury! How old do they have to be before they can be home alone...? !

Cori - hope he lets up on you a bit! Maybe give it a few days and hope it's a growth spurt? - good luck!

We had our first ever bout of overtiredness with DS2 yesterday evening - he'd only had an hour and half's sleep in total all day at nursery and he screamed from 7-10pm SOLID - nothing we could do. Does anyone know if there's and offsted rule that they have to check on the babies in the sleep room every 10 mins?! - they never leave him alone long enough to get to sleep - feeling so crap about having him at nursery right now.

btw, I nearly have my wedding stationery website up and running so I'll give you all a sneak preview soon - just learning basic HTML first!

liquidclocks · 24/01/2007 19:59

Have put some piccies of the LO's on my pictures page for the curious among you

Marls001 · 25/01/2007 03:49

Mabel - our DS2's much more high-maintenance than his older brother. I've flat out refused to do nights at all now because of insomnia like that!! So DH hears it every night; I take him at 5:30am.

Actually told a friend who called today, who's considering having another child & has asked what I thought, "now's not a good time - I'll call you back" - I was afraid, at that moment, that I'd do a good job talking her out of it!!

Liquid - where in the world IS that pic? Amazing!

Claire - Wow!! Have fun We're trying to get a few days in Taos, New Mexico this year - would love to try Europe someday! You'll have to tell us how it was.

bristols · 25/01/2007 09:20

Cruise - exactly the same happened to me. Its really upsetting to stop BF before you want to but, as many people have said, you have done so well to get this far. My DS is so much more content with the FF in the daytime. And he now sleeps through the night! Fingers crossed for you.

Have been having a nosey at your profiles, ladies. Will update mine now (if I can work out how to!) to return the favour.

Busy times here. We have a wedding to go to tomorrow and the groom is staying with us tonight so need to get the spare room ready. We have to be at the registry office for 9am and then to the church for a blessing at 12.30. Thankfully DS is staying with my parents so at least there are only three of us to get organised! Its snowing here today. Hope the bride has some thermal undies

Sorry I don't have time to write much. Haven't been on for a while and so much to catch up on! Must try harder...

clairemow · 25/01/2007 09:40

Liquid, your superbaby picture is great!!! F has a superbaby top to grow into in a few months, so I'll try and capture one too...

Bristols, hope you have a good time at the wedding, even if you do freeze!

OP posts:
MunkiBaby · 25/01/2007 12:20

Liquid, thats great! don't know what daddy looks like, but your LO seems to have your lovely big eyes...awww!

side note: i'm a regular "Stumble Upon-er" as well..oh the great things you can find, eh??

I cant seems to remember who asked about how to make a profile on MN...but try the MN home page. there should be a link about mid page. ((only just found it myself))

I've also added a profile (not great at writing about me)..and piccies are added too!!

anna88 · 25/01/2007 12:43

Afternoon All!

Bristol - hope the wedding goes well for the bride and groom - have a fab day too! Yes, thermals for everyone will help in this freezing weather!!

Clairemow - Have a fab time in Geneva! I so envy you going on hol. I have been so wanting to go on hol with my lo, but am not confident enough, plus not sure where to go with a 4 mth old baby - any ideas???

LO had her 3rd mth injection today - she was pretty brave, only a small cry.

Chat soon!

ezridax · 25/01/2007 23:12

Claire - must say i am slightly envious of ur break have a FAB time.
I'm soo tired my son will sleep fine in the day (mainly because i let him sleep on his front i think). But at night he like to sleep with me - i'm not happy .

Anyway forget my rant. I just wanted to know what you ladies thought about highchairs. Should i get uber cheap 1 from ikea or invest in an expensive 1? i have a bumbo baby seat and bought a booster seat from tk maxx (nice and cheap) the other day.

I'm also trying to decide on baby lead weaning or normal weaning. at the mo i'm thinking bit of both. But i guess some would say there's only 1 way to do baby led weaning and it cannot be combined.

I'm tired
enjoy

mabel1973 · 26/01/2007 08:06

bristols - good luck with the wedding!
ezridax- personally i would go for cheap with high chairs, we bought the white ikea £11 one, which I just took out in to the garden and hosed down when it got really covered!, We also have a booster seat with a tray that fits on which DS1 used to sit at the table when he refused to go in his high chair anymore, and to be honest I am going to put DS2 straight in to this for feeding, as he is sitting up well.

Well I had a lovely day yesterday, my mum had DS1 and me and DS2 hit the sales (well what's left of them), managed to get some great bargains for DS2 3 tops and some trousers from Gap, Zara and H&M and spent a grand total of £11! baragain! treated myself for 3 pairs of knickers for a tenner from M&S! Blimey I live the high life!

i have decided to go on a bit of a diet. although i weigh what i did before i has ds2 and am in a size 12, i am a different shape and need to shift my belly and saddlebags. have decided to do high protein/low carb, i know it's not the healthiest way, but i've done it before and it is the only thing that works for me.

Myrtle1 · 26/01/2007 14:26

I just lost a whole message I'd been typing
The gist of it was, I've added some new pics to Yahoo. Liquid, your pics are lovely and your sons look very cute
DS is taking formula at one feed now and plan to drop another next week. So far so good although he does seem to be snacking more during the day and then doing his big feeds at night which i need to sort out.
Hope everyone is well.

cruisemum1 · 26/01/2007 15:34

myrtle - you weaning from the breast? Me too. I have done replaced on feed this week (the mid-morning one around 10am ish) and boobs not too big! He seems to like it which is good. Let me know how you are doing and what you are doing next. I am v interested.

liquidclocks · 26/01/2007 16:34

Munki - LOVE the hair! I'm so not that brave! (my best friend would probably kill me for doing that just before her wedding too, she's more a pearls and twin set sort of girl!) - did have purple braids put into my up-do when I got wed though, maybe it's time for a renaissance. Your LO is just gorgeuos btw - can't believe the smiling while on the front, DS2 wouldn't be happy!

Mabel - will have a look at yahoo later, always like seeing your pics! I'm trying to lose weight too and have been trying the Gl, not a pund lost through that. Just had a 2 day migraine though, really bad and I couldn't keep any food down and have lost 4 pounds (not the way to do it though!). I 've also bought myself an excercise bike I can use while both boys sleep over lunch, I'm going to try 1/2 hour twice a day at first and see how it goes. Good luck with your efforts.

Cruise - hang in there! btw, you need to update your registration, your profile has missed off DS poor mite...

Fairysnuff - love your pics too, it's so nice to put a face to a name

Marls - LOL at calling your friend back! I told DH one of our friends is pregnant and he asked if we should send a sympathy card !

Ezridax - we just went with the cheap ikea one too - they get battered and actually it's worn better than some of the nice expensive ones my friends have. It also collapses very easily to put in the car and you can buy a blow up insert to help baby sit while still small. I'd use the bumbo/bouncy chair for now though - I don't think DS was really happy in his high chair until 7/8 months. We've decided to invest in 'proper' stools though now (ikea) again as the booster seat on the chair is hard for DS1 to climb up to wheras stools have the rungs in the right place - I think it's been a good way to do it but maybe if I'd had the money I'd have gone for the stokke tripp trappe!
