Very sad news pmoore but as you say, your gran is no longer in pain, and she got to see your LO before she departed.

gemmitygem - father christmas brought us a playnest. Not used it yet but you can use before 6 months but don't fully inflate it.
re expressed feeds my lo takes about 7oz... but it takes me about 3 days to express this much so think it has too much foremilk in it, thus not as filling, so if your 4oz is from one session of expressing will be richer. I know this doesnit really answer your q! also my LO is 13 weeks don't know age of yours so that might make a difference too - its so hard to know how much they usually get isn't it. V longwinded sorry.
Good luck going back to work

catgirl - my mum grew up in gresford, is a lovely village, still got relatives there too.

Gemmitygem · 30/01/2007 11:42

pmoore, sorry I was too addled to see your message: very sorry to hear about your gran, hope you can find comfort in happy memories of her. we're all thinking of you and sending virtual hugs

taffy, I get 4 oz in 20 mins (after really practising a lot with the evil breast pump), there's more left in my breast but he doesn't seem to want it, in the daytime that is.. so hmm, maybe I should try to get more out so that if he's hungry she can always top him up.. otherwise I'll have to rush home from work with boobs at the ready. luckily it's only the 2 daytime feeds but don't want him to starve!

taffy101 · 30/01/2007 11:46

bendyb - re weaning, know what you mean about the weaning threads! DH gave lo melted Terry's choc orage on his finger last week - i went mad with him but maybe I should have called the police!!!! LO doesn't seem to be suffering any bad effects from it tho

wuzzlefraggle · 30/01/2007 11:59

pmoore - im so sorry to hear about your gran, my thoughts are with you xox

ive got no propper routine done, i just wing it too lol

BENDYB · 30/01/2007 12:06

lol taffy, dp tried 2 give ds some melted galaxy yesterday!

Swizzler · 30/01/2007 13:29

Pmoore: so sorry to hear about your gran. Thinking of you.

Can anyone help on the teething front? I'm having to give some Calpol or Medised before bed now to get William to settle and he's still waking frequently - had to give another dose at 2am last night. Today he needed some more before he settled for a morning nap - he seems to be running a bit of a fever as well which is worrying. The Anbesol helps for a little while but then he starts crying and munching his fists again. No more sign of teeth apart from the tiny bumps at the back, but his gums are really hard. Any idea how much longer this will go on?

Re weaning, don't even want to think about it yet! W is interested in food but then he's interested in everything at the moment

Starting to think I'll never get any sleep at this rate . Luckily DH has been really good and took W out this morning for a walk so I could have a nap.

Swizzler · 30/01/2007 13:30

BTW, finally sorted out my Mumsnet profile and added a pic of William looking v smug

youngmum21 · 30/01/2007 17:05

pmoore sorry to hear bout your gran

Mellin · 30/01/2007 17:37

Pmoore ? sorry to hear about your gran, all your mumsnet pals are thinking of you.

Gemmity ? wow your life sounds so exotic. I feel distant sometimes because all my family are in Australia. But nothing like living in Kazakhstan I?ll bet?. Different culture, different language, mountains of snow! KGB eh, watch out for the polonium!
Re expressing ? I get 5 oz out a day for Nina?s final night feed. Seems to be a full feed for her as she will sleep for 5-6 hours after that on a good night. I think it would depend on weight though how much they need, she is 12lb at 13 weeks.

Swizzler ? I really feel for you with the amazing no sleeping teething baby. I am dreading the teething stage as we are just starting to get some decent sleep here and I it will probably soon be disrupted.

The whole baby thing never stands still does it, one thing after another! Just when you think you have one stage figured out then along comes teething, weaning, crawling?.. I got my first giggle out of Nina today, so cute

jmcmugwump · 30/01/2007 18:56

Pmoore - so sorry to hear about your gran - sending you virtual hugs x

LO usually has boob at 6,9,12,3,6 & 9 - or therabouts - if I try to do anything other than that my brain gets too confused - but being BF have no idea how much she is getting - she seems to be growing well, and although not particularly heavy (about 13lbs tho' haven't had her weighed by the hv since early December) she is quite long - 62cms at last count, and she seems to be nearly out of the mothercare 3-6 month sleepsuits already - she's only 3 1/2 months - does anyone else find that mothercare stuff comes up small?

My sister is due in May and I sorted out all Ellie's old clothes for her this week, and the moses basket my little girl is getting big

Rumpel · 30/01/2007 18:56

Evening All,

Pmoore - sorry about your Gran - hugs.

Had to take pram back today as the buggy seat bit didn't fit into the chassis - pram shops one was the same. Wrong component added on at the factory, luckily the pram salesman was coming but I had to hang around for 3.5 hours before it was fixed - am very tired as have been really busy last few days.
Spent money in the shop too - bought LO a beautiful plush baby gym and some arm bands as I want to start taking her swimming next weekend.

She has her last set of jags tomorrow oh dear am not looking foward to it.

RE Solids - I started giving her some stewed pureed pear last week, she loves it. Only 1/2 teaspoon to begin with with night time bottle. Then next day 1/2 tspn at dinner, 1/2 at night. Progressed up to 1 teaspoon at dinner and night feed. Tried organic carrots this week. She is much more contented now and enjoys the taste experience.

I suppose it depends on the individual baby. Lo hardly sleeps during the day and is very observant and interactive, if you have a chilled out sleepy baby they probably donn't need anything else as yet. I think we just have to go with our instinct as we are the ones who know our own babies best.

On a positive not have managed to lose 5lbs now - still a long way to go but at least it is something.

DS is asleep (phew!) so scarfing down some food then will have an early night. On the bright side, I am wearing my pre-pg jeans and not only do they do up but I can sit down in them

Have a good night all

marthahm · 30/01/2007 21:52

sorry about your grandmother pmore.
swizzler my friend's first baby used to have massive temp with each tooth coming through-104! she went to a&e with him several times. they did nothing but recomend calpol, they weren't worried. sounds horrible, all that sleep deprivation plus worry.

Gingeme · 30/01/2007 22:32

Sorry to hear about your gran pmoore
Ive just skimmed through the thread. Swizzler have you bought some Anbesol yet? Its fantastic for everything mouth!!!
Ive had my parents here for the weekend. My grandad was rushed to hospital on Friday after a bad fall but they think he will stay there now as hes too bad to return home.
On a happier note lo has changed his sleeping pattern. Last bottle at 8 sleep through to 4 then morning bottle at 8.30. But last night he realy didnt seem interested in his 4am bottle. Only drank about 4oz. Fingers crossed this could be sleeping through time.
Dh and I are going to join a gym tommorrow. I went with my Mum when she had her hair cut and unlike our mirror in the bathroom which only shows above the boob line the one at the hairdressers show from the thighs up and OMG Time to do something about it I think.
Anyway off to bed now dh is waving the latex free domdoms at me again night night x

Emzickle · 31/01/2007 09:26

Had LO weighed and measured 14lb 8oz and 66cm, thats at 15 weeks, so she's on the 99.6th centile for height! bloody eck

catgirl · 31/01/2007 10:14

morning

pmore - sorry to hear about your gran. x

no real routine here, other then I tend to wake ds2 up at about 7:45/8 am (ds1 picks his clothes out for the day at that time), so first bottle is at about 8 am, the rest of the day is a bit hit and miss, depending on what else we are doing. He is currently asleep on the front room floor, and I am about to bundle him up and go for a long walk through the park to a new children's centre to see what activities they do. We then put him in his cot when we go to bed at about 10 pm. Must do something about getting our evenings back, but don't want to mess up night time sleeping....

Whoever mentioned the weaning book by 'she who must not be named', I used it last time for the first month or so and found it very useful. Then someone gave us the Lorraine Kelly book as a joke (written by a nutritionist with LK's picture on the front) - but I found it really good! Very simple, easy recipes (I am no cook) that cover all food groups. I shall be digging them out again soon. Hoping to put off weaning until after dh's birthday as we are away for a long weekend and I don't really want to faff on with purees etc - we have enough crap to take with us!

Swizzler - hope William settles soon - from memory the teeth can move around a bit before they break through, it is an awful awful time - sorry probably not what you wanted to hear.

How about Wednesday 14 March for meeting in the Museum of Childhood? I have picked this day at random, so shout it if doesn't suit.

Swizzler · 31/01/2007 17:55

Went to baby yoga and baby massage today and it was a success - W enjoyed most of it and seemed more chilled afterwards. He then had his 4 month jabs so is v grumpy now - ah well. He's tired to have put him in his cot in the (vain?) hope that he might go to sleep.

Gingeme: have got the Anbesol - yes, it is great!

Can hear him kicking off so better go.

Emzickle · 31/01/2007 22:21

where is everyone today? Hello?

Emzickle · 01/02/2007 08:58

Any way... morning all.

Quick question, how are everyone's periods?

I have had one since LO and MC, dr put me on the pill, which i have about 5 days left of pack til relief bleed but ive been having major cramps and heavy bleeding since last Saturday, its really annoying me! But I dont want to scurry off to the doctor just to be patronised by him, so is this normal?

majormoo · 01/02/2007 09:22

morning all
pmoore sorry about your gran.
having had a period myself emzickle as still breastfeeding, but sounds like you are bleeding a lot. When my periods returned after DD they just went straight back to normal so maybe you should get it checked out. No expert though.

Catgirl-I really liked that Lorraine Kelly book too and will be using it again.

Still haven't done our school forms which must be in tomorrow. Choices are great school round the corner from the house, or catholic school not so good that we have to drive to. However, all the catchment areas are being reviewed for secondary schools in Brighton (on Friday after primary schools deadline!) and we could be in the catchment for a really rough senior school. If she goes to a catholic primary she will get into the good catholic senior school. aaaaah.

Also managed my smear test at last and have to wait 8 weeks for the results which I think is outrageous considering my dodgy smear history. anyway enough ranting from me I am off to get dressed at last!

youngmum21 · 01/02/2007 09:32

emzickle- i had my first period which was fine then i had another one that was still going on after 10 days i got cramps at the start and then started getting them again after bout 6daysafter so went to the doc who gave me sum pills to stop the bleeding oce i had taken them all i had to start taking my pill again had a few days break thru bleeding so now just got to wait till it time for my break see if my periods are bak to normal!!!

If i were you id go see your doc!! xx

marthahm · 01/02/2007 09:55

having bit of a nightmare with hope's feeding at the moment. seems to be getting worse. most feeds are now a one hour screaming battle. she looked like she might have stopped breathing during the one last night but am sure it only looked like that. it's so frustrating as she's such a happy baby when not feeding. also some feeds she's fine-have no idea why?
went back to gp on monday who finally listened to me after ended up crying. might have helped showing her the video footage i recorded of hope screaming and choking. unfortunately she then went on phone to paed. at hospital to get advice on changing milk and medication and they said don't do anything til she comes in next friday . considering she has been averaging 3 oz a feed for last 2 days because she's now going mental when she sees a bottle i think this is madness.
gave up and went private. waiting for apt with paediatric gastroenterologist who is meant to be brilliant. bit worried about forking out for diff formula if he prescribes it though. the good one is 26 quid for 500g . will have to then go back to nhs gp and stamp foot i suppose.

majormoo sounds like a really tough decision. if you go for less good primary at least it's easier to help lo at home than if you go for less good secondary and have to try helping lo with the gcse stuff. if you see what i mean

pmoore · 01/02/2007 09:56

Morning all,

Still quite sad but I am holding on to the fact that gran is no longer in pain.

Emzickle-My periods have been all over the place as I was on the pill and bled for nearly three months on and off. Now I've stop taking the pill I am waiting for a 'normal' one. See what happens. Maybe just phone GP and ask for advice?

Really, really need to book that smear. After the funeral will definitely do it. My poor sister is in pieces because she'd booked to go to eurodisney on the day of funeral, she doesn't know what to do.

pmoore · 01/02/2007 10:01

Sounds worrying- marthahm. Hope that they can sort it out for you. at the amount of money- definitely foot stamping time to get it prescribed on NHS if LO needs it.

Another thing- I am really, really upset at the thought of going back to work (and still have 6 months to go)- everytime I think about it I just cry. Don't see any other option.

catgirl · 01/02/2007 10:13

morning - should be doing chores, but while ds2 is napping.... here I am!

Marjormoo - are you practicing catholics? Could you put your dd (? is that right - can't remember, sorry!) in for the local primary school, then to catholic secondary school, citing distance from school if you get asked why she didn't attend the primary school? If you are practicing there is no reason why you shouldn't get in, is there? But excuse my naivety on all subjects secondary school! Can't even figure out primary schools. I figure that 8 years is a long time, so rubbish school could turn around in that time, or you might have moved to the other side of the world! And they might not change the catchment area.

Emzicke - have only had one period since ds2 born, and it was normal. But all this talk of smears makes me realise that I must book mine.

Marthahm - hope things get sorted out soon for you, sounds awful. Sounds silly, and you have probably already thought of this, but could the milk either be flowing too fast or too slow? Maybe you need to try another teat?

Off to first class of 'music and movement' with ds1 this afternoon - should shift some of this remaining baby weight - here's hoping!
