Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Seoulmum · 20/01/2007 12:00

Hi everyone
I was going to post this on the bottle/breast page but thought it might be better to ask all of you who have kids the same age. Is anyone's LO refusing the bottle or being fussy when offered it? For the past week DD has started crying when I try to feed her - although sometimes she'll take her bottle happily.
Don't have a clue why she's doing this! Is anyone going through the same thing? Is it early teething?
Thanks

totallyfloaty35 · 20/01/2007 12:18

hi seoulmum,my baby did the same thing at 3monthes,refused all expressed milk in bottle,i tried different teats etc,the thing that worked best was warming the teat and serving the milk very warm. She refused bottle for approx 10 days,my friends babies did same thing at same age and one of them has resorted to cups instead of bottles.
I think its a development thing so just persist and im sure your LO will accept the bottle again.

Seoulmum · 20/01/2007 12:34

Hi Totally
I saw your message on breast/bottle but as you mostly breast feed I wasn't too sure about mentioning DD. How is your LO now? Taking bottle ok, no problems? I'll try warming the teat and see if that helps.
Thanks.

wuzzlefraggle · 20/01/2007 16:15

well ladies...im pretty sure that dd is now teething...me and dh noticed a white lump thing trying to come thru last night, and shes been having all the symptoms anyway...oh joy

Gingeme · 20/01/2007 17:30

Sorry but cant beleive there getting teeth already! Are you sure its not thrush? Rumpel. Decided not to go in April. Would mean taking the 2 little ones with me so we though lo lo is a bit too small just yet. Would probably go in the summer hols if not next Easter. Dh is totaly fine with it though and yes my ex and I have a pretty good relationship. Wasnt at first but all sorted now. Thanks for asking and giving your input.
Anyway off to the restaeraunt now.

BENDYB · 20/01/2007 20:03

wuzz i'm sure kai is startin 2 teethe aswell, got all the signs aswell! Cant c or feel anything yet tho, dp & his brother & sister had their 1st tooth by 3 months so its quite likely that kai will 2! Bet it'll b the end of him sleepin all nite! x

DogMum · 21/01/2007 11:26

Wuzzle - normal pill has oestrogen in it, which is incompatible with bf. Mini-pill is ok, but have read that it can temporarily diminish supply, so don't give up if this happens.

Thinking of you coping with man-flu, Marthahm. DP had hangover from hell yesterday after wetting the baby's head on Friday night. I'm expressing for the freezer at the mo for a potential couple of hours out on my own in the week. Anyone else not left their baby yet? I say potential because I'm not yet convinced I'll actually do it.

pmoore, we're planning to put LO in his own room at 6 months. Having said that, plans change (I wasn't going to use a dummy or any of those nasty musical toys, but LO really likes both.) I'm still sleeping at the moment, so it's fine. I'm going to start trying to get him down for some daytime sleeps in his own room first. At the mo, his daytime sleeps are mostly in the pram, while dogwalking.

Sorry for long post everyone. Hope everyone's having a good Sunday.

pmoore · 21/01/2007 14:50

I'll probably wait until the recommended 6 months too, bit of a scary prospect though.

Someone has just pointed out that LO has a flatter head one side, is this normal all you mums to more than one. Anyone know when they hold their heads up straight. She favours the right side all the time. I have posted a thread on the health section as I am now worried.

gingeme- hope you had a good meal- I haven't been out for a meal since LO was born, I must go. Maybe a hint in the direction of DP might help.

Mellin · 21/01/2007 15:16

Dogmum - I left dd for the first lengthy period last weekend (6 hours). Retail theraphy with my mum and a massage, but spent most of the time thinking/worrying about dd so defeated the purpose probably! Left dh with bottles of expressed milk and dd guzzled them down apparently.

We are planning on moving dd into the cot in her own room next week. Fingers crossed it goes ok. I will miss her when she goes but she is almost too big for the basket and the cot won't fit in our room.

Anyone know anything about eczema? I think dd is developing some patches over her eyebrows (dry, scaly skin, getting red). Going to take her to the dr this week if doesn't improve.

BENDYB · 21/01/2007 15:44

mellin- dont really no much bout it, but ds had it mildly mainly just on his face when he was few weeks old, doc gave us this stuff called aveeno lotion & its cleared up now, the doc said they normally grow out of it if they get it when there babies. x

Mellin · 21/01/2007 15:48

Bendy - is aveeno only on prescription or can you get it over the counter? I think I will see the dr about it anyway, just in case it's not eczema and something else.

BENDYB · 21/01/2007 15:56

not sure if u can get it over counter, yeah i would go docs in case its something else.

how is every1 else?

wuzzlefraggle · 21/01/2007 17:11

Gingeme - i started a thread on teething coz i thought it may have been something else, but apparently they can start getting teeth at 8 weeks, so 3 months could well be it. have asked loads of people and they all say the same. still, sounds young i know, but ah well, they are all different

Bendy - eeek, you could be on the teething malarky same as me eh? hope alls well

dogmum - cheers for clearing my head on the pill thingy

hope every1 has had a good weekend xox

BENDYB · 21/01/2007 17:29

yeah wuzz dont think its gonna b long before he starts, my friends baby was born with a few teeth!
seriously i'm not jokin!

wuzzlefraggle · 21/01/2007 17:33

wow! i had heard about a baby being born with a tooth come to think about it.

this may be tmi, but ive got a smear on tuesday..ive never had one before so im incredibly nervous :/

nicand2 · 21/01/2007 17:53

Pretty sure my lo is teething too (13 weeks) the amount of drool is unbelievable and if he has a tooth he would have bitten his hand off at the wrist by now, I've already had to issue calpol and bonjela a couple of times to calm him down!

Spent the morning in A&E as ds1 ran through a glass door which shattered, luckily he only cut his hands and so he was patched up with steri strips, blood everywhere though! why do they call them toddlers? I don't think he's ever toddled anywhere he's always going at 100mph!!

wuzzlefraggle · 21/01/2007 18:00

nic - we can use bonjela can we??
omg, is your lo ok?? i bet that frightened the life out of the both of you

Rumpel · 21/01/2007 18:28

Evening All,

Nic - hope your LO is not too traumatised - and you of course - scary stuff.

Amber has been chewing her fist for ages now too and rosy cheeks so must be teeth bothering right enough.

Wuzzle - smear is no probs at all, feet together , knees apart, cold gel and clamp inserted and scrape - not sore at all - you'll be fine. Clamp is to hold you open and doesn't hurt. Just remeber doesn't matter what you think embarrassment wise - they get all sorts of folk in (ie smelly, STI's etc), so don't be embarrassed.

Mellin - massage some peach kernal, or sweet almond oil, or virgin olive oil into the area. You could avoid dairy too for a while if you are bf, if you are ff not much else you can do. Eczema is often linked to dairy intolerance.

Tool LO to a garden centre today, she was goggle eyed at all the plants, flowers, colours etc. She loved the finches, parrots, rabbits, fish, guinea pigs, chickens too. Immediately fell asleep when back in car due to all that stimulation!

Did you all read in The Sunday Times mag brain supplement that in the first 2 months of baby being made, they make 250000 brain cells a MINUTE!? WOW!

I think W is teething as well - loads of dribble, chewing on fists and fractious. Big cot is a success, though he's wriggling out of hiscovers more easily so trying the grobags again. Nights still bad - no idea what's up, but hope it will pass. The good thing is that he's going to sleep at about 7 (6 tonight, but woke up briefly an hour later) so we have our evenings back. Still waking every 2-3 hours for a dwws though . I think he might be needing more milk during hte day so have made the effort to prolong feeds as much as poss.

We converted the pram into pushchair mode today, as W is getting too long for the pram and he loves it . He's getting really nosy and this way he can see what's going on.

Planning to get to the meet-up on Wed - must check the thread for directions. Still a wuss about buggies and escalators, so will be toting W in the sling,

Swizzler · 21/01/2007 19:10

That should have been waking for a feed - typing in the dark

Mummypossum: DS also bursting out of the 3-6 months babygros! We couldn't fit a full-sized cot in the bedroom so got a travel cot, which seems to do the job. We're also running out of space - need to seriously think about moving soon...

Gingeme · 21/01/2007 20:37

Good evening ladies. nicand2 is he ok? Ive often wondered why they call them toddlers. They move too bloody fast to toddle!
That put me in my place wuzzle! Yes it seems early to be teething My lot seemed to start about 4 months or so. Though lo is chewing his fists but more times than not finds his thumb. A real break through the past couple of days re feeding. Hes been going 4 hours betwen feeds as he should be and only wakes up once at night now. About 2pm then again at 6.30am. So I understand what you mean Mummypossum by feeling a little more human.
Use some virgin olive oil on the dry skin Mellin. ds3 had it from his hair line down to his eye lashes and someone suggested this. I though it sounded a bit strange but it realy worked. Its natural so you havnt got to worry if it goes in the eyes. They get to like it too as its sort of a mini massage. He likes me tickling his forehead now when hes tired. Well Im off to have a bath now. Looking forward to Wednesday. x

nicand2 · 21/01/2007 20:53

Wuzz - Yes there is a bonjela that can be used from 2 months. the normal one is for 4 months plus I think. if ds1 is anything to go by we'll get through tubes of the stuff!

pmoore · 22/01/2007 08:52

mummypossum- I'm having the same trouble with getting good use out of all of LO's 3-6 month clothes. Lots that still hasn't been worn- seems a shame to take the tags off to be only worn once. Oh well maybe I'll use next time

Going to buy a lightweight buggy for Wednesdays trip- anyone used the Maclaren buggies? I love the bright pink one. DP thinks its too much!

Taking LO to GP agin this morning- seems penicillin may be giving her diarrhoea, those receptionist will know me by now!
