isla It's not you it's the tongue tie. DS1 had TT and we had it snipped at 1 week and now with DS2 again the same thing, we had it seen to at 6 days.

My supply never recovered with DS1 and I always had to supplement with formula- more and more so until my own milk was completely gone at 8 weeks.

Same thing is happening now again. I also don't have the time to put into it that I did with DS1 so I'd say I won't last the 8 weeks this time.

Pumping is awful, I hate it so much. I ordered bigger funnels for the pump from Amazon and they are a bit better but it still hurts! Angry

MaisieDotes · 18/02/2016 13:21

Sorry I totally forgot to make my actual point! I think that even 6 days of feeding being affected by the TT is enough to do irreparable damage to milk supply. Not for everyone, of course, but for some people.

XingXingFox · 18/02/2016 14:06

I hope so maisie! Am a bit nervous she's not feeding enough as she's so sleepy! The pains are Getting better now but am shocked by how much they hurt second time around!

oneconfusedchick · 18/02/2016 18:42

Hi everyone. My baby was born 11th Feb - 16 days overdue. He feeds soooo much like sometimes every hour - is this normal?! My first son did feed lots too but not sure if quite this much!!

oneconfusedchick · 18/02/2016 18:47

I've been keeping a feed log and just seen he has had 12 feeds since 12am this morning !!!!

oneconfusedchick · 18/02/2016 18:48

Although some of them are where I put him down after having one boob and he wants the other straight away and I have counted them as 2 separate feeds

cudbywestrangers · 18/02/2016 19:16

Sorry some of you are having a tough time getting feeding and weight gain going. Hope things improve soon either with or without formula...

I don't know about feeding frequency chick at 12 days old ds feeds mostly every 2-4 hours, sometimes one side sometimes both. Either way i count as one feed. I guess some babies prefer fewer big feeds while others tend to graze more... and sometimes they do seem to suckle for comfort...

clumsypots · 18/02/2016 20:23

Congratulations one! My DS is the same he seems to feed constantly of an evening but I think it's comfort suckling as last night every time he sucked he opened his mouth so it all poured down my belly.

He also seems to gag an awful lot without bringing anything up, do any of the other babies do this? I don't remember it with my DD but it was 9 years ago so I have forgotten lots of things.

LibertyBelles · 19/02/2016 11:50

Saw health visitor today and am topping up with 3oz of formula after every breastfeed

haquoi123 · 19/02/2016 16:28

Congrats one! My ds2's also feeds constantly, often hourly, but a lot of it is also comfort feeding. He also has TT so is more hungry than he might be without it, plus he's a big boy!

isla so sorry to hear about your milk, really feel for you. I second the 'it's not your body, it's the tt', it's so tough.

Really glad to hear the tt has been sorted maisie. Is baby feeding better now? I'm still waiting for my referral (the midwife responsible is off sick and my midwives are desperately battling to find an alternative route) and getting a little worried. I'm extraordinarily lucky that so far my supply doesn't seem to be too badly affected just yet, but he's now 8 days old and I don't know whether I'll continue to be lucky... I'm going to start expressing to try and keep the boob that doesn't get emptied as well happy.

NorthernChinchilla · 19/02/2016 21:38

Thanks for the link Xing!
'Graduated' yesterday, DD born at 10.51, watched her come out Smile Recovery progressed so well they let me home today.
Feeding going OK, but my nipples have already been munched through some enthusiastic feeding. Took 5 days for my milk to come in last time, so am giving DD some formula so she doesn't wail with hunger all the time; was exactly the same with DS. His intro to his new sis seemed to go well too.

Really looking forward to tonight in my own bed with DD!

MaisieDotes · 20/02/2016 07:44

Yay! Congrats chinchilla!!! Smile Flowers

Glad to hear all is going well. How old is your DS?

NorthernChinchilla · 20/02/2016 11:50

He's 4 maisie. I love him to bits but he's definitely one of those children that euphamisms such as 'spirited' and 'full of beans' are used Wink Bundle of non-stop energy! Trying to get him to be delicate round me post surgery, and a newborn, is a challenge in itself....

clumsypots · 20/02/2016 12:01

Congratulations chinchilla!

cudbywestrangers · 20/02/2016 20:05

Congratulations chinchilla
Glad you didn't have to stay in too long
All good here. It's dh's birthday so have had his family over for the day. Just feeding baby then off to the chippy for our tea... after a busy couple of days i'm really hoping for some sleep tonight!

XingXingFox · 21/02/2016 09:55

We've had visitors too, all day! Am exhausted by them and want it to be a weekday again! Still very little sleep here as we've all caught a nasty cold. great timing!

oneconfusedchick · 21/02/2016 19:37

Is anyone else struggling with la L of sleep? I was so tired today as my oldest woke up at 2 until 430 plus baby awake every hour or two to feed! I'm literally feeding my DS2 every 1 hour or so so like up to about 20 times a day!! I don't mind the feeding but it just seems so much! Anyone else's little one feeding? He's put on a good amount of weight though which is good

oneconfusedchick · 21/02/2016 19:38

Meant struggling with lack of sleep!

oneconfusedchick · 21/02/2016 19:39

Other thing is I ended up being cross with new baby today as he would not settle in the sling - felt really guilty but DH was good and took him out for a walk so I could put my head down for an hour.

clumsypots · 21/02/2016 19:57

Yup struggling here too as have to be awake during the day for my 9yo,
I'm getting cross with DH though.

Hope you feel better soon xing

XingXingFox · 21/02/2016 21:45

Thanks clumsy a cough post-birth is not something I'd recommend!Shock also really doesn't help bf!

I'm struggling with lack of sleep too mainly because I too have an older one and I need to do stuff with her. Am exhausted!

NorthernChinchilla · 21/02/2016 21:55

DD doing the cluster feeding in the evening oneconfusedchick, but currently getting DP to give her a small (say 40 ml) bottle then just to give me and my nipples a break! Glad you got your head down for a bit.

I'm in the same boat Xing, the bug I had in the last month of pregnancy hasn't properly shifted so am coughing, nose blowing etc, as much as I can post section Confused

haquoi123 · 22/02/2016 11:35

one my baby is feeding hourly as well, which I don't mind too much (apart from sore nipples, but I don't have another dc so that helps), but I'm struggling with lack of sleep through my own fault. At night DH and I take it in turns to be downstairs with bubs but during the day I feel too anxious to be away from him for too long so I'm not napping when I can... It's weird, I'm having real issues trusting things like car seat, pram, blankets and moses basket to keep him safe. It's like every new thing we use for him it takes me ages not to panic about using it!

Other than that, he's gorgeous! And he's gone from 9lbs to 9lbs 7oz in 10 days - what a chub! I'm so proud :)

And he literally just peed all over me...

clumsypots · 22/02/2016 12:41

That's great news about his weight haq. We are going to health visitor on Wednesday to be weighed again.

xing I had horrified looks from people on Thursday when I took them both to an outdoor adventure place. Half term meant I had to do some stuff with my eldest or she would start getting resentful and little one just slept all day. I took my bf and her son too so I didn't have to do everything and could feed when I needed to. Glad she is back at school now though as I can get into some sort of routine.

I hope you manage to get rid of your bug soon too northern

NorthernChinchilla · 22/02/2016 17:27

The MW I saw on Saturday 'forbade'!! me and DD from going to town and for a coffee clumsy. Never mind it's a treat for DS and the distances are such that I'm barely walking at all. Oh, and that I'm a grown up who can make choices about what's best for me and both my children Hmm

We went. No one died Grin
