Dear god potty training is frustrating.

Day 2 of attempt 3 and we've had 3 accidents and zero pees in the potty. She knows she gets a nappy on for naps and bedtime so is declaring she's tired at random times of day to try and get a nappy on.

We're having a face off right now because she wants her toe nails painted and I won't until she pees on the potty.

BeanCalledPickle · 03/01/2016 22:15

We started again yesterday and abandoned today. She went through eight pairs of pants yesterday. It's like one wee would just come out over several pairs. The only progress we made was that she was saying when she was doing a wee rather than it just happening. Flatly refused to sit on potty and had to be put on by us with it dripping from her. Same happened today and everyone ended up in such a state I think we will abandon for now. I can't send her to nursery until she can identify the need for a wee and give warning. If she tells someone and gets taken immediately it's still going to be minutes and she seems to have no forewarning at all! And we are going to centre parcs next week where there are no washing machines!

On the sickness thing and surgery that sounds a lot like the effect of anaesthetic on blood pressure. I had the same first section. Second time round they took a huge amount of time to introduce the anaesthetic extremely slowly and I avoided all sickness pretty much. Still a bit cold and shaky but nothing like the previous time!

HungryHorace · 03/01/2016 22:46

We've had a bare bummed DD for a short while today. No wee on the potty but also none on the floor!

DS managed to poo on the floor post-bath / pre-nappy, however. We will end up potty training them together at this rate.

DD won't wear pants as wet knickers distress her, hence the bare bum today. Sigh.

SunnyL · 04/01/2016 08:02

My girl is seriously stubborn but knows full well she needs to pee. She wanders round holding her bits declaring she doesn't need a wee but that she is tired so can she get her PJs and nappy on please.

God help us when she's a teenager because her deviousness will be less easy to spot!

Biscuitswithtea · 04/01/2016 12:52

Are you trying to potty train before you pop Sunny?

DS has sod all interest at the mo and nor does he show any awareness of poos etc. It would be quite nice if he was dry during the day by mid/late summer, but I don't feel very urgent about it yet

I have a return of energy today. Which is lovely. I'm hoping it lasts. I'm due back at work on Wed (will be c9wks then) and have been dreading how I manage full days at work, plus a nasty commute on the piddly amount of energy that I have had for the past week!

Dd has been pretty well potty trained since end of October - there is sometimes the odd accident if she is really focused on something and I have to keep reminding nursery she really does need reminding during the course of the afternoon.
Poo's are a slight issue and she will point blank refuse to say she needs one until it's happening there and then. Some days are a real miss other days she will make it to the potty/toilet and be really pleased she has made it.
But generally now I can put her in an outfit that lasts the day!

Pull ups helped a little at the start, but she didn't want them for long.
Night time dryness is a very, very long way off yet tho. If she's awake she will use the toilet but once she's asleep she wee's for the world! Also has.

SunnyL · 04/01/2016 18:46

A pee in the potty!!! (and the floor)

But yes I'd love for at least 1 day of no nappies before Mark II arrives. I can dream can't I?

Well done Pinky - that must be a relief. Feel like we're well behind all the other girls I know. And only just in front of most of the boys. She's a stubborn little so-and-so!

BeanCalledPickle · 04/01/2016 21:11

Yeah you aren't behind us Sunny! She doesn't nap anymore but instead of asking for a nap to get a nappy like Lily she proclaims the need for a bath as she can wee in there. She was screaming blue bloody murder for a bath earlier and I was dealing with a mega Juno poo so couldn't. Then she gave up and climbed on the loo. Contrary bugger. Why the need for sodding drama!?

Raeside · 05/01/2016 08:06

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had marvellous breaks (if breaks were indeed had)....we didn't go to Wales as normal so it felt rather long and lazy, which was lovely.

J is now starting to sit on the loo and do a wee, though still in pull-ups. We went to the shops and bought a load of undies, he helped choose them, and I am going to speak with nursery this week, when I'm back from Bristol, about Taking The Plunge, as it were. I think we just need to go for it now as he clearly knows what's going on and will do good, big pees when asked, just can't be arsed to go unless we initiate it. He's also bloody resistant to the idea of a poo in the loo. I'm hoping nursery can sort that.

So. Gah. I'm flying home to Oz with him on my own in mid-March and I rather want him sorted by then. He's far too large and strong to try and wrestle a shitty nappy off in an aeroplane loo. Jesus, no.

How is everyone doing?

Bean - back to work soon?

HungryHorace · 05/01/2016 18:52

Well, Lily and Polly are both ahead of DD who's being super-resistant to it all. Once we've had a few wees from bare bottomed roaming we will try knickers again and get preschool involved, I think. There's loads of time to get it sorted!

SunnyL · 07/01/2016 18:38

Woo day 6 of potty training is going brilliantly. We've had 4 wees on the potty and even a serious attempt at a poo.

At what point do I scale back the chocolate/lollipop/crisp bribes??

BeanCalledPickle · 08/01/2016 11:03

Jealous! Though I do think we may let it slide towards the spring / summer just so there are less clothes involved!

Yes back to work the week after next. Feel a bit nostalgic as this is it now through to retirement. But the first six months were utter hell so I'm very glad to see the back of the tiny baby days. The last month has been nice and they play together well now. It helps that I enjoy work I guess! I'm so delighted that 2016 will not involve pregnancy. First year since 2011!

HungryHorace · 09/01/2016 01:31

We had a minor breakthrough this evening in that DD sat on the potty for about 25 minutes. No wee or poo but she was happy to sit there (think we missed the wee persuading her to sit on it). It only took a bit of chocolate to keep her there!

Hopefully we can move on to actually using the potty soon, bearing in mind the answer has been no to even sitting on it for months!

cuphat · 09/01/2016 07:19

Thanks bean re the sickness.

We've had a bit of a breakthrough here too as DD asked to go on the toilet twice yesterday. And she did a wee the second time (the first time she asked me if I could help her do a wee which left me feeling a bit useless!). Will still be taking it at her pace. I think the not mentioning it for a bit helped as she likes to be independent.

cuphat · 09/01/2016 07:28

Gosh I hadn't thought of it like that (all those years in a row involving pregnancy!). I'm also glad that I will never have to do the newborn baby thing again. The first couple of months were hell for me (mainly my own doing).

HungryHorace · 09/01/2016 08:38

Cup, DD is fiercely independent. And strong willed. And stubborn. Which is why yesterday felt like a success!

HungryHorace · 09/01/2016 12:32

Hmmm...partial success today. Plenty of chocolate being handed over in bribes!

SunnyL · 09/01/2016 14:25

Hungry I have a v v independent girl. I was seriously questioning myself on day 5 but something clicked and ever since day 6 she's been peeing and pooing in the potty.

Its like its her latest party trick and anyone coming gets to share the experience of her peeing on the potty.

Think she's a show off Blush

HungryHorace · 09/01/2016 14:51

DD was left eating her lunch in the lounge and when DH went to check on her she'd done a wee on the potty. She's since done another too. :-)

Just need to get her wearing knickers now rather than being bare bummed!

Still a few accidents, but getting there.

We need progress by Tuesday as she's back in preschool then and we don't want to go backwards with it.

PeekABooPinky101 · 09/01/2016 16:12

I've had to remind nursery this week that although dd is quite good at going she does need remind and not just assuming she'll take herself - she's in a different group this term with different people, which is absolutely fine but they were in with the oldest of the nursery last term and have now moved to the youngest!
Dd was getting quite upset that she was needing changing at nursery.

We do still have a lot of bare bum time at home, or with her knickers on and she is sort of just about getting the pulling them up/down. She has also become stubbornly independent about dressing her self... She did sigh and say 'mummy help' after a battle with her tights this morning.

She is currently out with my parents at a panto, I was meant to be there but just feeling exhausted so an afternoon curled up on the sofa in quiet has been lovely. If a luxury.

HungryHorace · 10/01/2016 08:46

Interesting. Almost bone dry nappy overnight after a 13 hour sleep. No wee yet this morning though. Weird, as she's usually a heavy wetter overnight!

PeekABooPinky101 · 10/01/2016 09:31

HH that's good going - I'm fairly convinced dd will be in night time nappies for ages yet - she quite possibly wee's more at night than during the day - and she's a frequent goer! (That sounds very wrong Hmm)

HungryHorace · 10/01/2016 10:23

Ha ha ha. So is DD normally, as it were! We were amazed at it as I anticipated overnight nappies for years!

HungryHorace · 10/01/2016 18:50

Hmmm. Not such a good day today...more wee on the floor than anywhere else. I'm not sure whether we crack on with it or give it a rest. The problem we now have is that she doesn't want to wear pull ups or knickers. Hmmmm!

SunnyL · 10/01/2016 20:55

How many days are you on HH? We seriously doubted ourselves at day 5 but it all got better after that.

Now I think she's rinsing me for treats by splitting one wee into two!
