Lily - yet again our LOs are pulling the same shit Sad DD is leaving bits at every feed to whereas only a little while ago she was draining them. I'm going to try reducing the amount of feeds so that she takes more volume at each one, no dream feed tonight at 10.30pm!!

It's frustrating isn't it mzzf! He took 3oz around 3.30 am and then about 3.5oz at 7! I just don't understand he was such a hungry boy last week! Going to get him weighed tommorrow to check its my having an adverse effect on him. Yesterday he went 5 hours between feeds at one point and I thought he would be starving and yet he only took 4oz then!

No luck getting him in the docs today- we're on the cancellation list but I won't hold my breath! DH seems to be under the impression that they HAVE to see a baby? Anyone know about that? He thinks we were told it at an ante natal class but I don't remember and don't want to go demanding if it's a load of rubbish! His eczema is much better this morning after using the lasinoh- who'd have thought it! At least I can use it up as its sodding expensive!

Interesting to read about the early weaning- that's only 4 weeks away for us and I jus can't see him being ready but I suppose a lot can change in 4 weeks. Surely they need to be able to sit up though in high chair?

Yes to DS munching his hands- he often spits dummy out in favour of them nowadays! I thought it was teething as he was dribbley as well but I agree he has just found his hands I think! He appears fascinated by them it's very cute!

I've no plans whatsoever for today and am still sat in bed playing with DS. Can't decide whether to force myself to go out or not. A long walk would probably improve my mood but I just want to veg on the couch although that would involve eating rubbish again and I swore I'd be good again from today!

Going to at least start by getting us both dressed- back soon!

Tindel · 26/10/2015 09:19

Giraffes I love click and collect - we decided not to do it yesterday and went round Tesco with J. Only we'd mistimed it, so he howled the whole way round - I've never had such a speedy shop! Back to online for us!

Fanby MIL is extremely opinionated and is not backward in coming forward. I have resisted telling her to bog off and keep her ill-informed opinions to herself so far, but I am tempted to. Trouble is, I am slow to take offence and DH is conflict-averse, so it often doesn't feel worth it. I also can't always catch the comments when.they happen. They were over last week and her opening topic of conversation was how children can't form proper bonds if they are separated from their mothers at birth, if they are adopted or go into an incubator - J spent much of his first 24 hours in an incubator Hmm

I tend to ignore and then bitch about her afterwards

FattyNinjaOwl · 26/10/2015 09:35

Morning all. DS2 was up most of the night.
I'm bad and none of my older two made it to 6 months before being weaned. They were just so hungry and as soon as they were on food they were much happier babies. But that's just personal. And there was no spitting it out, they had very good head control and could sit without slipping. They also grabbed food off plates if sat on your knee. So does DS2 if you don't watch close enough. I am going to speak to the hv about it as I'm knackered. I can't keep feeding every 2 hours. See what they suggest as he is still very young.

Dozygirl · 26/10/2015 09:40

Gosh tindel that must be so hard. All her opinions are so completely wrong! I'd find it hard not to bite back I think.

Mzzf and lily hope your lo's start taking more milk for u today if that's what they need.

Lily I thought that doctors had to see a baby too so I'm sure they'll fit u in at some point.

Dp is off today so not sure what our plans are. So I'll be skipping bf group today I think. We're having a lazy morning in bed. Managed o get dd back off to sleep next to me evetally and she slept till 9am so not bad. Makes up for the unexpected 4am wake up call.

GiraffesCanDance1 · 26/10/2015 09:44

Hi again,

On the weaning discussion I'm waiting until six months. I did with dd1 as well and she's a great eater, but the main reason for me is that dh has a history of crohns in his family and he gets it badly, the advice from his gastro consultant was to keep the babies on bf for as long as possible and not to wean until 6 mo so that their tummies have lots of time to mature. I'm sure if there's no history of health issues then early weaning is fine for some babies though Smile

mzzzf · 26/10/2015 09:50

Giraffes - I can totally see the point of leaving weaning later for babies with gastric issues!

Fatty before 6 months is totally normal - you're not bad at all.

I think sometimes when weaning is mentioned folk think it's an immediate transfer to solid food but it all starts super slowly at 17 weeks with lots of touching and tasting. And she'll be propped up in her highchair or her sit me up chair.

loveandsmiles · 26/10/2015 09:54

Morning all - can't keep up with this busy thread!

kbro couldn't live without the sit-me-up cosy - DD really settles in it - had been lying her in her Moses basket but she can't see anything - in the cosy she can see what's going on around her - she will usually lie for a while then put her thumb in and fall asleep lily probably spends too long in it too but like you, if she is not crying, figure she is comfy enough!!

I must confess to all you Aldi and Lidl lovers that I hate shopping there with a passion - only been in each once, but more than enough - can't cope with shopping getting thrown off conveyor belt, lack of choice, horrible atmosphere - but, you all talking about the goodies you get is making me think of giving them another chance Halloween Grin

I have used Lansionoh breast pads and Johnsons - both good, although I don't leak much.

Of to Panda Club (toddler gymnastics) for a fun-filled morning then home to clean - other DCs went back to school today - itching to get house back in order!!

Dozygirl · 26/10/2015 10:54

Haha yes loves!!! First time I went aldi in said to the woman, woah can u below down you're going too fast. And she replied actually I'm not going fast enough. That stressed me out until i got more used to it. Easier if u have a trolley so just throw it all in trolley and pack afterwards.

Frolicacid · 26/10/2015 10:56

Mugabe morning augmums!

My god you chat a lot overnight!
Ds wasn't too bad. He's slept from 10:30- 9, waking every 2/3 hours for a feed, but dropping off again quickly.

Thanks for the reassure about cluster feeding in the evenings. I don't mind it. Like dozy said, it's a good excuse to sit down and watch tv.

Ds was born on the 27th slow, so we will be following the same curve.

I didn't eat much meat at all in pregnancy kbro. But I had hyperemesis and generally only are cheese sandwiches, crisps and chips for 9 months! Since having ds I have been having massive urges to eat loads of red meat. I was anaemic so it might be something to do with that.

Dh has just suggested we go for brunch again as he's got the morning off.
I'll be back later Grin

teddybearsbear · 26/10/2015 11:16

Hi ladies can I join this thread?

My ds is 11 weeks old I am a first time mum and am winging it everyday.

I am still breastfeeding and I am now co sleeping in an attempt to get some rest myself. I have no idea what I'm doing and spend most of my days wondering if I am doing it right!

It's nice to read this thread and know I am not alone.

Fanby · 26/10/2015 11:32

Welcome teddy!! I too am winging it!! The ladies who already have bubbas are a goldmine of advice Grin now tell us, what is your chocolate bar of choice??

Oh god I remember when lidl first opened near parents, got to be just over 10years ago - they didn't even have barcodes and the staff had to remember all the prices and they still chucked stuff through the checkout at lightning speed!

FattyNinjaOwl · 26/10/2015 11:35

Hi teddy I'm on my 3rd, and have my level 2 children and young peoples workforce (0-19) and im still winging it Halloween Wink

FattyNinjaOwlBecameAZombie · 26/10/2015 11:51

ta-dah!
Well I feel like a zombie with how much sleep I've been getting. Does being a zombie mean I get to eat the superchunk? Look at them legs! Halloween Grin

August 2015 - Jaffa cake wars and many Mugabe greetings to you!
Fanby · 26/10/2015 11:53

Oh fatty he's completely adorable!! Yes, definitely have a nibble!! Hope you get some rest today! Molly and I are having a sofa day and catching up with some crap tv (x factor) X

kbro79 · 26/10/2015 11:57

Tindel can't believe your MIL told you she didn't like your name. I'd have gone mad. But good you and your OH are able to United front it. Dh's parents can be a nightmare but DH would never ever speak up, queue lots of rows about them between me and him.

As for procrastinating men, DH when we were leaving for my friends wedding, decided then was the best time to upgrade his phone. This resulted in long conversation about which camera had what pixels and what battery life and we ended up leaving v late. That combined with some unlucky tube changes meant we missed the entire wedding service. Needless to say I have never let him forget this and keep it in my locker room should he ever nag me about my lateness.

Yes to people having funny definitions of sleeping through. Someone asked once what night DS had and I was pleased as he'd done 4 hours between 1am and 5am and they said 'oh he slept through'. Sorry but I will never class 4 hours as sleeping through. But when kids were little she apparently did. I'd also say that it's not always a true reflection of the picture. DS did a great night on Friday night but the 24 we had before that were awful so would not class his Friday sleep as successful against a back drop of 5 hours screaming.

So have decided I need to get out and about this week. Had no plans last week and felt v low by Friday. I am someone that needs an activity a day I think. And no excuse today as weather seems nicer and London looking lovely and autumnal.

Fatty how old is Nathan? DS has woken up bloody starving and fed loads yesterday too (also every 2 hours when he was going about 3) wonder if both having a growth spurt. Aidan is nearly 11 weeks.

FattyNinjaOwlBecameAZombie · 26/10/2015 12:05

fanby sofa day sounds perfect.
kbro he's 12 weeks, he's ff and takes 8oz of hungry formula at a time. It's a hell of a lot for a baby to be taking! I did think growth spurt but its been a couple of weeks where feeds are getting closer and closer together!

kbro79 · 26/10/2015 12:07

Oh I just missed loads of posts. Welcome teddy! Totally winging it. This thread is a life saver!!

Oh look at Nathan. Too cute!!!

rrra · 26/10/2015 12:14

Hello, can I join too? I'm new to mumsnet in general. Found this thread in the middle of the night a few days ago, and have been stalking since!

I'm a second time mum, have a daughter who is 3.5y and a new son born on 30th Aug, 11 days late. So now 8 weeks and he is snoozing after having his jabs. Longest daytime sleep since 3 weeks old I reckon, poor mite.
I'm an Aldi shopper and adore their choc swirl brioche!

Clstow · 26/10/2015 12:18

Hey Augmums, many Mugabes to you all. I've been lurking all weekend as have been oop north with my family and it's been bonkers busy but brilliant fun. DS has been mostly a little treasure, being passed round and taken out late for dinner last night. We're now on route to OH's mum who sounds like your MIL Tindel. She's already criticised our parenting (but only when OH is out the room) and when we told her DS's name she said 'that's nice but I would have preferred xx xxx'. WTAF?! Who does that? Lots of tongue biting and fake smiles from me... Wish me luck for the next 24 hours ladies.

Welcome Teddy - I'm a FTM with an 11 week old DS and also feel like I'm winging it. The experienced mums on this thread totally rock, they have reassured me on so many things in the last couple of months, I owe them all a few fake lidl buenos Wink

Feel like I've missed heaps but things I wanted to mention...

Cluster feeding - only occasionally now. Each feed (BF) still takes about 30 mins though. Does that seem long to you guys? When we give DS a bottle it's sooo much quicker. Can't wait to swap to FF to be honest.

I don't use breast pads, just never seem to leak milk. It doesn't help my fears about a low supply and that's why DS is so little. HV said not to worry about it though.

Feeding to sleep - yep, but not stressing about it. I figure night time breast milk is full of sleepy hormones so why fight nature by waking him up after a night feed to put him down asleep.

Cradle Cap - coconut oil working a treat for us. Hate that it stops DS smelling like his usual gorgeous self though.

Will try to return to regular posting from now... Most likely with tales from the in-laws. Hope everyone has a lovely Monday.

Clstow · 26/10/2015 12:20

X-posts - also welcome rra, hope your DS recovers quickly. And that brioche sounds amazing!

ruby242 · 26/10/2015 12:46

Hello all! A nice sunny day here today so gone for a big sling walk which means a nice long nap for DS

Welcome teddy, also winging it as I go and co-sleeping too since week 2. Keep meaning to try to move him out of the bed but I'm too scared in case the sleep goes all wrong (not that it's particularly right to begin with but could be worse haha)

Feeding to sleep at night-Yep it would take a lot of effort to even try and wake him up! Speaking of, does anyone elses baby never stay awake for a full feed? DS always falls asleep at the end even during the day, is this common? Annoyingly he never naps for long after a feed.

Welcome rra-yes DS had the longest nap after his jabs too, one positive side effect of them!

Fatty I have heard there is a big growth spurt at 12 weeks so that must be it

Yes according to the book The No Cry Sleep Solution 5hrs is sleeping through the night-I definitely wouldn't count it though!

loveandsmiles · 26/10/2015 13:10

fatty gobble him up just too cute!!

Welcome teddy I am on DC6 and still learning!! The best advice I ever had was to do what works best for you. Welcome too rrra

lily hope you got a docs appt - I thought docs had to see a baby the same day - I know at our surgery they see children the same day or at least have a chat on phone.

I have waited until the six month mark until I've weaned my DCs but appreciate all babies are different. They show signs of being ready when they start to watch you eating / try to grab spoon / open their months. I've weaned all mine on fruit and veggies and they are all good greedy eaters now.

DD slept beautifully during toddlers gym session this morning - was nice because it gave me time with toddler who sometimes gets a bit neglected - we even managed to go to cafe afterwards for cake Halloween Smile

Frolicacid · 26/10/2015 13:32

Mugabe!! I have just demolished some eggs benedict. I am such a fat pig. I did resist having cake for pudding though.
Ds has only slept for 45 minutes for his mid morning nap. He usually does 3 hours. Should make for an interesting day. He's exhausted still but fighting all attempts at getting him back down.

The good news for today is that the posh leggings survived the poonami! Clean as a whistle, probably because I'm a mean mum and don't bother washing his stuff in non bio.

Yes to fist chewing. He's just statrted since turning 8 weeks. He's also licking and sucking on anything that he can. Must be the experience the world via your mouth stage.
He's also totally forgotten how to suck on the dummy. We had been using it successfully at night for the past few weeks. He's stopped trying to suck his thumb though, so maybe he just doesn't need it anymore.

I should confess that I've never done an Internet food shop. I like to go and have a look. I'm also obsessed with lidl and they don't deliver!
I think you should give them another go loves. The selection is always improving and you soon get used to the checkout thing.

You may well have been overdoing things with all your visitors and stuff jockstar. Are you able to have a few quiet days to regroup? Go easy on yourself FlowersWine

Interesting stuff about the weaning advice mzzf. Thank you for sharing.
My mum and I both suffer ibs, so I'm going to be thinking very carefully about when to start.

How on earth did you manage to only eat 2 lily? You must have super powers of self control.
I hope you get in to the dr's.

Your mil sounds very passive aggressive tindel. Sounds like she's looking for a reaction and the best thing to do is ignore. It must be so hard not to bite back.

Sorry you had a shit night fatty. Breastfeeding every 2 hours is hard enough, it must be really difficult with all the bottle sterilising and other kids to look after. I hope you get a chance to rest today.
He is a lovely chunky monkey.

Welcome teddy and rrra! We are all winging it I think. Come and join the madness!

Good luck at your mil's clstow.
Ds' breast feeds vary from a quick 2 minute snack to 1/2 hour feedathon's. I think his average is about 8 minutes. I have an app and am slightly obsessed with timing his feeds.

Have a good Monday everyone Smile

teddybearsbear · 26/10/2015 13:32

Thanks for your welcomes!

I feed ds to sleep every night I don't know how else to get him into bed! Seems to be working for me though. I started a little bedtime routine when he was about six weeks old, bath/massage and sleep suit on between 6.30/7.30 every night and then sit in darkened room feeding until he nods off I have had various success but he does seem to be used to it now other than that thee is no routine at all!

Does anyone else follow the "if in doubt boob out" method of breastfeeding? I do and it seems to work I figure if he isn't hungry it will give comfort!

I am a massive mosser Roth chocolate fan!! Lidl I think
