Welcome back!

(Dear greetings cards manufacturers: 'Baby's First Christmas' does NOT necessarily have to include Baby being liberally sprinkled with glitter from your shoddily-made merchandise.

Except that, as I'm rapidly discovering, it does.

Oops, am 36

tattyblue · 02/01/2015 15:28

Thanks, fedup. I guess we'll just keep trying with the bottle.

Right...

baby
Girl, born 13.10. Induced at 39 weeks due to medical hunch ( slightly elevated blood pressure, "not looking pregnant enough"). Birth weight 5lb 4oz- medical hunch correct, placenta failing, baby looked like Gollum. Weight now- 11lb 11oz, a number of which I am inordinately proud. Ebf.

me
32 years old. Just the one baby but planning to have another at some point. On mat leave from a part time fairly menial job I hate. The rest of the time I'm a writer. I've got a book out next summer so the hope is it will allow me to get enough free lance work to give up the other, and then dp (runs own business) and I can split childcare. Fingers crossed.
We live in east London.

I've never kissed anyone interesting but I did once accidentally sit on Matt Damon's wife.

STIGZ · 02/01/2015 15:30

Wow pregnant Liam gallagherGrin bet your dp wants to punch the tv every time he is on it.

Baby Arra (pronounced Ah-ra) was born on the 10 october by emergency c/s as my waters broke, she was breech and two weeks early. They let me get to 10cm dilated as they only had one theatre on, but i dilate really quickly basically i was fully dilated 2 hours after my waters went. She is my second dd i have a wee girl who is nearly 5 aswell, this will be my last as i suffered spd during my pregnancy and couldnt imagine looking after two children suffering from thisSad. I ff both my children as i tried bf but it wasn't for me.

Me: i live just outside glasgow with my dp of 10 years, before i had kids i was a bit of a raver and enjoyed many holidays in the party land of Ibiza and many more foreign party destinations, and me & dp very close to moving to Australia but i fell pregnant with first dd.

I am a part time nursery teacher in a local authority nursery, i love my job but not in a hurry to go back just yet

My favourite past time is curling up with a book & a glass of wine ( can you believe i used to be a raver baby?) i love family holidays and cosy nights in with my children but also like a wild night out with my best friend or dp now and again Wink

splendide · 02/01/2015 15:36

Quite a few of us planning just one I see! My DH has always said he only wanted one but I thought I'd be talking him into a second. Now I think one will be enough for me. I feel a little sad picturing my boy without siblings at christmas and things but I can't imagine doing this again.

FATEdestiny · 02/01/2015 15:48

"baby looked like Gollum" Awwww bless.

I have a neighbour with a 15 year old daughter. Difficult birth, PND, difficult baby and toddler years. Was definite she was going to be an only one. Except she now also had an 8 year old, 3 year old and 1 year old. It took her 7 years to get over having her first born, but she made a U-turn on the only child thing well and truly.

I have another school-yard Mum friend who's daughter has just gone to uni, she is 19. Planned as an only one so that they could indulge her. Only they had an unplanned surprise and so as one daughter went to university, their other started school.

STIGZ · 02/01/2015 16:26

Oh Intresting facts : Kevin bridges (comedian) was the year below me in school, my teachers gave him a message on this morning a few months ago .. Very weird to see ! Marty pellow is from my hometown his gran lived above my mum and they where childhood friends, my dp knows james mcavoys step brother

Inthewaysince82 · 02/01/2015 17:20

Me next then...

Baby
Girl, Ada, born 26.10 and was 8lb4oz. Normal vaginal birth but she's my first so took 22hrs - urg. Two weeks late and one day short of being evicted. Really wanted to give birth in the MW-led birthing centre but turned out I had strepb and needed antibiotics during birth so delivery suite it was. Formula fed and something over 11lbs now, little guzzler.

Me
Originally from central Scotland but now live in Gateshead with my hubby, on maternity leave from my job as a theatre box office manager which I love but don't miss as much as I thought I would! Always thought I'd have two but not sure now, maybes ones enough, which seems to be a popular opinion here! Interesting fact......erm.... When I was about 10 I did a Scottish coutry dancing thing at a big event and my kilt fell down in front of Princess Anne Blush

tattyblue · 02/01/2015 17:24

Aww, ours is an Ada too. Only we're confusing everyone by pronouncing it Ah-duh, to rhyme with ardour.

wondermoose13 · 02/01/2015 17:26

Baby: patrick (paddy, paddymoose, padster, paddington, the grumpuss!)
12 weeks tomorrow, 7lb15 at birth after scans predicted 10-11lbs!! Very glad he wasnt! 13lbs now, very long skinny baby, he has awesome brown hair with about an inch of blonde roots! I dont want him to be blonde as me and dh both have dark hair, he was induced at 40+6 due to 4th episode of reduced movements, his heartbeat dropped off when i was 5cm so they kept mentioning forceps so they got me in stirrups and then he got going and arrived naturally had cord round his neck 5 times! born 11th oct. He has reflux, cows milk allergy, is ebf but has a terrible latch so is a very inefficient feeder
Me: 28, first timer, trainee clinical scientist living in bolton, lancs. I want 2 kids but dh has found this one so stressful that hes really against it :s
had pelvic girdle pain from 12 weeks so having stirrups for delivery wasnt great and i kept fainting after the birth and an hour of stitches thanks to his giant head! I really hate that for the first 24hrs i didnt get much skin to skin/cuddles due to the fainting :(
My job is a trainee post so i only have a year of guaranteed employment when i go back which terrifies me money wise, there are so few micro jobs in the northwest but i am a major geek and get very excited about outbreaks!
I love baking and made my own wedding cake but havent had chance since ds arrived

wondermoose13 · 02/01/2015 17:30

Ooh intheway i worked at the box office at the MEN arena for 4 yrs whilst at uni :) manic but fun :)

Inthewaysince82 · 02/01/2015 17:38

He he tatty at least your pronunciation eliminates everyone assuming she's called Ava, a battle I fear she'll be fighting most of her life!

wonder it is manic but my place is nowhere near as big as the MEN, I'd love to work for a massive events place one day.

DutchMummy88 · 02/01/2015 18:21

Hi all! I've been following for absolutely ages, but as you are all re-introducing yourselves I thought I might just come out haha
I hope there's space for one more. It's been so great following all your stories and super helpful at times!

So here we go:

baby:
Ramses, boy born on the 7th of October. 8lb 3oz.
Booked in for induction due to GD, spend 3 days in hospital and nothing happened! Had a spontaneous vaginal delivery 3 days later
breastfed for 6 weeks but now ff.
This is my first baby and I would love to have another one (or two or...)

mum:
26, Brighton, Im a chef but now SAHM working from home two days a week making cakes for local cafes.

random thing... uhm We live in a pub, thats pretty interesting at times!

FATEdestiny · 02/01/2015 18:34

Hello DutchMummy, nice to see you 'come out' Xmas Grin

My inlaws used to live in a pub. Definitely interesting at times!

Anyone here live on/been to Isle of Wight? We're thinking of holidaying there this year. Would love some recommendations for where on the island would be a good base and which are the best beaches.

BadgerInBury · 02/01/2015 18:41

Hello newbies!

Baby Badger: little girl, 12 weeks old. Weighed 7.15 after five hours of vomiting, three solid hours of pushing and a close escape from ventouse delivery. She's a funny wee mite who loves frogs, hates monkeys, has recently decided breast milk from a bottle is a swizz and likes to party until 1.30am every night.

Me: 31 years old, first time mum and living in Manchester where I work as a theatre producer in one of the theatres here (waves at InTheWay). Going back at the start of August and I think I'm happy about that, though I cried when we went to choose her nursery. Being a mum has changed the way I feel about pretty much everything but I try not to talk about it too much for fear of outing myself as a big old mushpot.

wondermoose13 · 02/01/2015 19:05

fate ive only been once to isle of wight but i loved it, stayed in shanklin but had a great day out on the beach in ventnor too. I cant wait to go back with babymoose when hes a bit bigger :)
Eek badger id forgotten about nursery! We started looking before he arrived and then completely forgot Shock ooops! Theyre all so damn expensive especially as me & dh commute into manchester :(

splendide · 02/01/2015 19:45

We've chosen a nursery but I can't imagine him there! He's not going till 9 months and then only 2 afternoons a week though so I guess I'll feel differently by then. DH is going to look after him the rest of the week.

BadgerInBury · 02/01/2015 19:54

Wondermoose Me too, commuting from Bury on the met, the most reliable transport system ever Hmm Did you see they had to delay the NYE fireworks in Piccadilly Gardens this year until five past midnight because a tram went the wrong way and got stuck in the firework zone?!?!

.... and back to the babies Grin

Pregnantagain7 · 02/01/2015 20:04

tatty my mums name is ardha I never heard of anyone with a similar name (except in Italy and even then it's pronounced differently) :)

I love finding stuff out about everyone I'm so nosey Grin

I'm taking dd1 to see the hunger games tonight she is so excited because she's having a late night out with mum on her own! (Also because she is being allowed to watch a 12!)

I heard about that badger unbelievable!

tattyblue · 02/01/2015 20:17

Ada is pronounced our way in other places- I thought it was in Italy (according to an Italian friend) but definitely in Russia. There's a nabokov novel called Ada or Ardour. She's actually named after Ada Lovelace, though.

ohthegoats · 02/01/2015 20:29

Baby: Pippa born on 14th October (15 days late, but not induced) at 7lbs 7oz. Normal long winded vaginal birth of a first (and likely only) child.

Me: 40 year old teacher on maternity leave until any time between June and September, depending on how things go. Live in Oxford. Haven't snogged anyone interesting.

Child is asleep again - woohoo, she's getting the hang of evening sleep. Keeps waking up for a few seconds, but going back to sleep. Good sign for the start of our training regime on Monday!

STIGZ · 02/01/2015 20:30

I love hearing all your bits and pieces, i am quite imaginative and have a picture in my mind of what you all look like! Its like characters in a novel, lol am i weirdo !

fedupofrainydays · 02/01/2015 20:32

What do I look like stigz?!

FATEdestiny · 02/01/2015 20:32

Am I allowed to say that Ada Lovelace sounds like a porn star name? Or would that be highly inappropriate? Hmm

FATEdestiny · 02/01/2015 20:42

Goats - Philippa (Pippa) was my second choice name for a Flick, along with Penelope (Penny)

ohthegoats · 02/01/2015 20:52

It was our only name! She's just a Pippa (Pip, the Pipster, Pipsqueak etc).
