DH has returned with a swing.

Its taken all of 5 mins to be happy! Unbelievable difference.

bananapickle84 · 22/11/2014 09:59

So glad it's got sorted Red. Hope this one works better and for longer.

You amaze me, I would have given up by now.

Smile
Allisgood1 · 22/11/2014 11:01

Red, I love my medela swing. I got the double now as my single lasted two babies (plus two loans!). There's no comparison to the other brands.

Nazly · 22/11/2014 19:01

Yeyyy Swing is brilliant,bI bet it will make a difference in pumping time too.

Nobody bought a pushchair as yet?!?

TeamEponine · 22/11/2014 20:25

I got a Lansinoh electric pump a couple of weeks ago, and I'm quite disappointed. Can't take it back though. I don't find it is any faster or more effective than the manual pump. Slightly gentler on my nipples and easier to do one handed, but other than that it was a waste of £100. I was dithering between it and the Medela. Really made the wrong call there. Sad Luckily I only need to express a small amount each day for her colief.

Nazly · 23/11/2014 05:02

Anybody can tell me the difference between pampers baby dry and simply dry ? Dh bought baby dry no4 by mistake it is twice as expensive as simply dry, debating if I should exchange or keep it

Nazly · 23/11/2014 05:09

Did I share this with you girls ?

Acorncat · 23/11/2014 08:27

I bought baby dry as I hoped it would be better as it's more expensive, after doing a full clothing change twice a night it'd be worth it! I think simply dry are their budget version, whether they're just as good I don't know. I only use them at night, use Aldi or asda during the day.

whiteblossom · 23/11/2014 08:31

Hi everyone, its been a long time since I was online, Ive had to reset my password!

Ive not got time to go through all the threads but I hope everyone is ok. I have seen the last few pages and there is a lot of bf talk, hope you all doing well with that xx

Honey bear, I saw your post and I found repeating mantras to myself helpful ie, I will be fine, nothing will happen. Take each 10 mins as it comes and be more accepting that you cant control every little thing and you can cope you just need to realise that you really can. As time goes on this gets easier. Say 'well I coped for the last hour, I can do another hour...' take the pressure off yourself we all have bad days too. hugs. Someone mention relaxation cds- they could help too.

My baby boy is huge! wearing 6-9 months clothes, chopping his fist, everything goes in his mouth. planning to start weening in 4 weeks. Baby has an infection at the moment but hes coping very well. Cant get rid of the cradle cap and its starting to look sore...tried sunflower oil, special shampoos (had a reaction) baby oil, now olive oil... all advise from gp/HV.

..and hes just woken...how is everyone doing with nights? we have gotten down to one or two a night (still bloody shattered though!)

Anyone trying to lose the baby weight ive struggled ive got 9lbs to go so not the end of the worlf but my jeans really don't fit.

right I really must dash, well done to everyone hug hugs xxx

whiteblossom · 23/11/2014 08:33

ps Ive found Aldi nappies and Naty nappies to be the best. The cheapest v's the most expensive. I found pampers turn to liquid gel and smell of wee and chemicals.

holls2000 · 23/11/2014 11:00

I have been using the regular pampers during day and baby dry at night but do find the baby dry smell horrific at end if day. May try the aldi ones. Xx

FATEdestiny · 23/11/2014 12:01

Pampers Baby Dry are more absorbent than the Simply Dry version (which, as mentioned by someone else, are the pampers budget version).

Personally I've always used Baby Dry from size 3 onwards.

Welcome back whiteblossom, good to hear from you again. How old is your baby now?

velvetlilithi · 23/11/2014 12:11

I use cloth nappies, but if I run out due to too much laundry or sometimes when I go out, I use Aldi ones. Tried Pampers for first 2 weeks before umbilical cord fell off, but had a leak every time and had to change lo 10 times a day. Aldi ones are cheap, I'd say one of the most reliable brands though. We're in the size 2 just now. I didnt have a single leaking problem with Aldi nappies.

whiteblossom · 23/11/2014 12:42

thanks fate baby boy is 3mo, he's in size 4+ nappies Shock.

im getting so excited about xmas I love it Grin

TeamEponine · 23/11/2014 13:01

Hi all, I need some advice please! Had a horrid morning. DD has been really tearful and upset, barely slept all morning, just napped fitfully. She's also been wanting to feed about every hour, but has been upset at each feed. I tried to express for her meds and couldn't get a drop out of either side, and I realised I've not felt my milk come in at all today. Just defrosted my last 75ml of expressed milk, and she's currently demolishing that from a bottle from DH. I'm now totally freaked that my milk has dried up. I've just had a load of water to drink and I'm stuffing myself with nuts to try to get me to produce some milk. Is there anything else I can if to get my milk production going? I do have one emergency pack of pre made formula in case my boobs don't refill, but I'm worried that if I give her a bottle of formula she won't go back on me. That is if my milk supply hasn't just dried up. Any ideas?!?!? Sorry if I'm being a bit incoherent Sad

FATEdestiny · 23/11/2014 13:27

Team, the first thing to do is stop panicking.

Your baby will not starve, you really, really do not need formula to get through this. It's only one day. Just get through one day.

Don't worry too much about not feeling let-down. You will still be producing milk.

Just settle in on the sofa and let DD breastfeed as much as she wants. All will be better once you get through this.

RedToothBrush · 23/11/2014 14:31

Team, your milk will not dry up over night. Its more likely that getting stressed over it, is going to cause more issues rather than relieve your worry. Plus if your daughter is fractious already, she'll feed off you being upset.

Lots of people mix feed so don't worry about your daughter not coming back to you. She will. DS does not get confused between bottle and boob despite being mainly bottle fed. I thought he wouldn't continue to switch between the two, as he's lucky to be breast feed once a day atm, but he definitely knows where they are and how to use them still.

I have days where my boobs look and feel like they have filled up ridiculously, and days when they look and feel empty. Strangely, what comes out over the course of a day seems to be incredibly consistent day to day. (Remember I actually have the ability to measure this, as I almost exclusively express).

If you get REALLY desperate you could try taking fenugreek supplements. There is supposed to be some evidence it increases supply for some women, if you take the right amount, but doesn't work for everyone. It could have a placebo effect, even if it didn't work anyway though. However its supposed to take 48hrs to work.

DS is still in size 2 pampers at just shy of 12 weeks. We tried Aldi to begin with, but found it a false economy as DS would scream at the slightest wee wetness day and night and they were constantly leaking. When we switched to pampers, he calmed down and could wee more without it bothering him. We will need to step up to size 3s soon, but he's long and skinny. I found we had to really leave it until almost the upper weight for the size 1s when they started leaking before stepping up to 2s. We tried the 2s earlier, but he was leaking with those too.

Btw, thank you to everyone who said about the pump. Its brilliant.
And thank you banana... posts like that are wonderful. Made my day. Whilst feeding has been a battle, I think I've had it easier in other respects, so sticking with it has been easier than it could have been in other circumstances. I'm getting good amounts of sleep which makes a huge difference.

Team, it's likely a growth spurt when it feels like they've drink you dry and you can't express. Will also make baby fractious. Continue with putting her to boob as much as she will take.

Whiteblossom, try using diluted apple cider vinegar on cradle cap. Then get a fine tooth comb and gently rub off while scalp is warm and moist. I did this with DS and his cradle cap is gone. Took about 3-4 washes and combs.

RedToothBrush · 23/11/2014 15:31

Oh great... I was in blissful ignorance.

There was me thinking there was pampers, pampers and pampers... and now I discover there are six million nappy choices at size 3! Arrrrrrghhhhhhhh

More trial and error to work though.

Joy. Why can't it just be simple!?

cries

misog2000 · 23/11/2014 20:06

Team I've got an almost full bottle of fenugreek capsules that I'm happy to post to you if you pm me your address, if you wanted to try it. I bought it to try and help my milk come in but it never happened so I stopped taking it when I gave up trying to breastfeed.

holls2000 · 23/11/2014 20:31

team I used to have a mars bar before going to bed and lemon in hot water and it worked for me.

holls2000 · 23/11/2014 20:34

ella I so agree about the clothes smelling of wee. going to try simply dry. a friend has recommended morrisons nappies so may try those.
b is usually a v happy little boy. I have noticed he gets weepier as the day goes on. and gets v worked up if he isnt in his bath by 7-7.30!!! he slept for an hour before his bath but when he woke up was v weepy clearly overtired bless him.

TeamEponine · 24/11/2014 01:45

Thanks for all the support today! After she had the bottle she zonked for 2.5 hours, so I got some rest, drank and ate loads and some milk came through Smile I'm still a bit freaked at having been so empty that DD was hungry and distressed, but at least my milk did eventually come in. Going to try to build up a bit of a reserve of frozen stuff on case of future emergencies, although I'm going back to the cheap manual pump as is it better than the electric one I've wasted £100 on!

I'm already taking fenugreek. Misog - that's so kind of you, I'll drop you a message.

Holls - Oh, I'd so love a Mars bar, but I'm dairy free at the moment Sad I had a couple of spoons of peanut butter straight from the jar instead Grin

Took two hours to get her to sleep tonight! She's really not been a happy little thing today Sad

Nazly · 24/11/2014 03:32

Question for those who have frozen EBM, how do you defrost the milk? (Is defrost the right word for milk?)
I have read expressed milk should be put in the fridge 24hrs before use and never microwave to avoid hot spots - but that is so unhelpful... the occasions we thought we could use EBM were all unpredictable; so no way we could have known 24 hrs in advance ... I am sure people use microwave, no?
