Oh, weight gained, breastfeeding group good, confidence boosted etc etc

catg83 · 04/12/2014 08:02

Moggle- That is Malory ' s nickname too. When he was born he was all mucus and couldn't do much without sounding like he had a mega cold. now when he latches in you get a few good snorts from him. Grin

catg83 · 04/12/2014 08:03

Amy- your second message made me laugh. "yeah yeah all getting better". Well done you. x

ladydolly · 04/12/2014 08:59

10 til 3.30 sleep, 4-5.30 cry, 5.30 - now sleep. Not bad.

Dp 1st day back at work and I've had a shower and breakfast!! So proud.

Still suffering the massive freak outs halfway through feeds though hence the middle of the night screaming.

PlumFairy2014 · 04/12/2014 09:34

I'm stressing!!!

I rang the hv last week because LO had green poo, she said it was fine and I saw her the next day at the drop in and she saw some and again said don't worry...
So at drop in this week the hv said she wasn't getting the hind milk and to monitor it and keep to one side longer. I have even when she gets grizzly and her poo is still green. She's fine otherwise, what do I do now?! :(

I felt like it was all coming together this weekend and now I feel like I'm doing it all wrong. Plus a bad night last night, probably cause I'm stressing about poo. Arrrr!

PlumFairy2014 · 04/12/2014 09:36

Also I've had a few people check my latching and were happy with it.

moggle · 04/12/2014 09:57

How old is your LO plum? Our DD had green poo for a bit longer than they'd have liked, but she was gaining weight so the mw wasn't worried. this was early on though. MW said that certain green veg can make their poo more green and also I found online that if you are taking iron that can also make it more green. Any of that apply? I'd ask in the breastfeeding topic about the fore / hind milk thing.

After writing my last message we had a feed and then despite best intentions we both fell asleep with DD on my chest for 2 hrs... Oops again...

Greenstone · 04/12/2014 09:58

Plum don't worry too much about the green poo, it can be entirely normal in breastfed babies. don't stress about this hindmilk malarky. Are you taking vitamins - dd1's poo sometimes was green when I took Pregnacare Breastfeeding vitamins.

We had a horrendous day yesterday, the car journeys to and from dd1's morning sessions at CM have been awful with dd2 screaming all of the way (about a 7-10 minute drive depending on traffic). It was really distressing and she was just awful the rest of the day too. Then suddenly grew much calmer in the evening once DH came home Hmm. With both of my babies the witching hour has always been in the early afternoon as opposed to evening or night. He can get her to settle really easily by letting her suckle on his little finger. Anyway she had a feedathon ending at 11pm when she dozed off in my arms after some sssshing and white noise; put her down 20mins later and she slept til 3.30 HURRAY which is really good for her.

She slept the entire car journey and back to the CM this time, phew phew phew. I'm beginning to get the hang of the mornings, slowly.

Plum, I'd go back to your health visitor again to be sure.

We've used a sleeping bag since day 2- they can be used from birth, provided baby is over the weight on the tag (8lb on both of ours). Not all babies like them at first, though, DS1 wouldn't sleep in one at all until he was about 2 or 3 weeks old. DS2 likes them, though.

pinkgirlythoughts · 04/12/2014 10:10

Can I ask where you're all getting your nursing bras from? The only place to buy them from in my town is M&S (that mumsnet favourite!), and they only make ONE style in my size, which is quite an ugly looking style. I need a 36f, all their other styles stop at 36e.

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2014 10:18

Plum if she's gaining weight she's obviously getting all the fat that she needs. I heard that hind milk theory has been debunked anyway.

My guy has been putting on weight like a Sumo Wrestler and I've had frequent green poos, so I no longer pay much heed.

DH came home with a GroBag yesterday and we tried it. I think he slept a bit calmer. No screaming fits, even though I could tell he had trapped wind and was uncomfortable. I was winding loads but nothing was happening. Then at 9am this morning when he woke he had a massive fart and a little puke. Badly needed. But even squirming with discomfort all night he managed to sleep and didn't freak out & I think it was because he was warmer.

Maybe it was just a fluke! But it is nice to breastfeed him without him suddenly getting cold.

He's filled his nappy twice since 9am. Unusual. He seems fine but I don't know how normal that is?

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2014 10:20

pink Debenhams here. There are Miriam Stoppard ones in Debenhams which actually make your boobs look like they're pointing in the right direction.

ladydolly · 04/12/2014 10:58

pink I'm 36g and went for the mothercare t shirt bras £16. I tried a few others but they offer hardly any support. Hot milk do some lovely ones as do bravissamo but they're £30 upwards and I'm too tight to pay that much. Am v.happy with these although my lil sis said its better to get the ones that offer some coverage above the nip as well so yoi feel less exposed but I'm not as shy as her :)

weeonion · 04/12/2014 11:32

Plum - also getting green nappies here. The mw weren't concerned but hv are. I spoke to la leche league and yep - they debunked hind fore milk saying she would be geting plenty of fatty milk mixed in. They do reckon i have oversupply so should fed twice from each breast and stop expressing at beginning of each feed. I have to keep her on as long ad possible.
she has gained 20 oz in past 2 weeks so not stressing at all.

Bellyrub1980 · 04/12/2014 11:41

Has anyone else's vision feel like it's got worse since giving birth? I've never needed glasses before but recently I'm struggling to focus on writing on my phone and the telly. Is it a hormone thing?!

Kantha · 04/12/2014 11:49

I've bought nursing bras online this time from the nursing bra shop (I think) as it's easier than driving to a decent sized shopping town for me. Free next day delivery too.

Green poos: DS2 did endless green poos for weeks and weeks whilst still gaining weight well. I think it's normal. I wouldn't let it affect your self confidence. I was told this time with DD that frothy poos are a sign of too much foremilk, but then a different Community MW disagreed Confused.

Greenstone · 04/12/2014 11:50

Belly I think it's a tiredness thing and a spending too much time scrolling through pages on your phone thing! I'm like this but much better with a print book.

I have two Emma jane stretchy ones which were about £10 each on Amazon. The type that fit a load of sizes as they are so stretchy. As long as I'm stil wearing the breast shells I'll stick with them, can't wait to have something nicer though, although they are very comfy. They are a bit of a mess with the lansinoh though now...

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2014 12:01

weeonion do you mean do two consecutive feeds from the same side? I've started to do that too, in the hopes it might calm my forceful letdown.

Only problem is that he feeds so often I forget which side was last!

Oh by the way, on the subject of bras....I bought a cheap workout bra from Primark which is fantastic to sleep in. Definately going to get another.

Word of advice though, don't get the cool tie-dye one - it looks great, but its too high on the chest so no good for bf. Get the plain blue one which is lower & easy to pull down.

amy83firsttimer · 04/12/2014 12:41

Lochia has stepped up a gear including a clot in the bath about 50p sized. Should I be worried?

PlumFairy2014 · 04/12/2014 12:52

Thanks for the poo advice! I feel much calmer, funnily enough baby is calnlmer now too... I think a bad night sleep can make green poo seem pretty drastic.

I called the hv visitor again and got another one who isn't worried about green poo. Also had a chat with a Lll lady and the same weeonion, fingers crossed it helps.

Kantha I find it infuriating that mws and hvs don't agree on things, even the hvs who work the same area. I think I'm a bit of a worrier though which doesn't help!

I got my nursing bra from h&m and a couple of bf vests, work well under a jumper that comes up too.

Also loving the gro bag now she fits it, makes such a difference to night feeds.

PlumFairy2014 · 04/12/2014 12:55

amy sorry cross posted without seeing that... Though I don't have a great answer. The mw told me anything smaller than 50p was ok, maybe give them a call?

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2014 13:19

amy my MW told me I may have a clot the size of my fist! And the following day....I did! It plopped into the loo and I got quite a start!

Thank goodness she told me it happens, or I'd have been freaked.

She explained that basically the blood pools at the bottom of your uterus (particularly if you've been sitting/lying for a bit, as in during a feeding session or at night) and it clots really fast, then when you move - plop!

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2014 13:28

Little Man definately has diarrohea - lost count of nappy changes today. And I think its because of my two rounds of Augmentin for stupid episiotomy.

Feel a bit guilty Sad Isn't that insane? He's not even that bothered!

catg83 · 04/12/2014 13:47

amy- clot wise I was told if they were regularly bigger than 50p to give them a call. I have had 2 that have been that kind of size but I wouldn't worry if I were you.

We just went out! OH had baby in the sling and we walked to the shops to buy jam and steak. It went really well. Such a confidence boost.
